• Control Windows 8 with a tablet

  It seems much of Windows 8 is based on the idea that it will be running on tablets, and touch screen PCs. I like this, but I don't have a W89 tablet, or a touch PC yet. I'm running W8 on a laptop, and am wondering if there's any way of using my iPad2 as a touch interface with metro? Or another options that'd be nice is if there's a input device similar to Apple's "Magic Trackpad" that would allow me to use hand gestures instead of a mouse cursor when in metro apps. I've seen some cool videos of MS Smart Glass and it would seem that the capabilities are there. But it may just be too early on to do this? I'm not sure.

• Why does my Windows computer immediately turn back on after sleep/hibernate?

  After clicking sleep or hibernate in Windows 7, my computer loads for a while and then goes into sleep mode, but not 1 second later it powers back up. The event log has no errors and no warnings appear when it comes back out of sleep/hibernation. Here's my system specifications: Asus P5KPL-VM Windows 7 I believe this is all that's relevant. I've installed the latest chipset drivers, but I'm unable to update my BIOS (but this is another matter; maybe because the motherboard in the V3-P5G31 bundle is different). I've also tried turning off the "Allow this device to wake up my computer" for the network card, keyboard, and mouse -- but this makes no difference. If flashing the BIOS is the only thing that will fix this, then I will create a new question to this effect. Maybe I should change the suspend mode from S3 to S1?

• Configure different set of keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste in Photoshop (WIN)

  Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use Ctrl + Insert or Shift + Insert to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click Copy sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use Ctrl + Insert to copy and Shift + Insert to paste? EDIT: I tried editing keyboard shortcuts, but it will not accept CTRL + INSERT as a valid entry. Is there no valid option for left-handed users?

My resolution that I am working on is 1024x768..but the computer that I am going to be running this program on is a wide screen..1280x768. My question is, is this preferred versus inline styles? Stackoverflow actually uses quite a bit of inline styles.   I'm working at a java application that performs some xslt transformation. I would like to match nodes into the xslt document, using a parameter provided by java. Which is the right way to do something like: <xsl:template match="//m:properties/*[contains($pattern,name())]"> because when I launch my application, it claims it's not able to compile the stylesheet, since pattern is not defined but I'm setting it using the setParameter method and I was able to use another parameter defined in the same way but in a different context.   I have a locationmanager in my main program which is called HomeViewController which I get the latitude and longitude and store them in LAT and LON. I can use LAT and LON in HomeViewController just fine. Once I go to another controller which is sending pictures and setting properties on flicker I want to use LAT and LON, how do I do this? I tried putting HomeViewController.LAT but obviously that does not work, I'm pretty new to the language so I am confused.

  The question sounds easy but I could not find a solution using google search. Maybe you have an idea: I am searching for the Firefox setting to bookmark always to the toolbar. If I click CTRL+D the default "Folder" is "Bookmarks Menu". I'd like to have it always "Bookmarks Toolbar", without the need of changing it every time. • php: avoiding __get in certain circumstances?

  I have a class where I'm using __set. Because I don't want it to set just anything, I have an array of approved variables that it checks before it will actually set a class property. However, on construct, I want the __construct method to set several class properties, some of which are not in the approved list. So when construct happens, and I do $this->var = $value, I of course get my exception that I'm not allowed to set that variable. Can I get around this somehow?

• 1TB HDD making strange noise (not a common one)

  I built a new PC some days ago, and everything seems perfect, except that the 1 TB HDD I cloned from my old 500 GB HDD is making a deep weird sound. First of all, every time I access the disk, I hear a deep sound, and when the PC is turning on, I hear some clicking (the rapid clicking is my mouse, I'm opening and closing folders to trigger the vibrating deep weird sound I'm describing). I'm using this 1TB disk for data mainly (I use a SSD as the OS). As background information, the disk is a seagate barracuda 7200 rpm which was RMAd and replaced with a refurbished one. Maybe the refurbished disks make these noises? should I worry about my data? (although the disk is working normal and passed a seagatetools short generic test? Thanks! • Ubuntu 10.10, taskbar

  I launched system monitor to kill one program, which didn't responded on any mouse clicks, etc. But i occasionally killed another process. so, taskbar was killed. (it was in the bottom of the screen, in the top all is good) reboot didnt help o_O. Now I use Alt-Tab and alt-controll-arrows to switch between programs and desktops (it works). How to launch taskbar again? its very strange that reboot didnt help me.

• managed object subclasses are not generating implementation files and are incorrectly named

  In Xcode 4.6, I generated plenty of managed object subclass files without any problem. But now that I'm trying to do it in Xcode 5, it generates only a .h file. The header file has the correct properties, but it takes the name of my project, rather than the name of the core data entity I selected. Just to be sure I hadn't forgotten something, I carefully followed these steps . What could be going on? Thanks

• What can i do when my Ubuntu stucked [closed]

  From time to time firefox cause to my Ubuntu machine to stuck.(nothing run on the machine except firefox) I cant move the mouse or move windows by keyboard. In some cases i have wait for a few minutes and than close last open tab in firefox and it solve the problem in other cases i do restart. Is there any way to prevent it, limit forefox in some way? In windows in most cased even with 100% cpu you can do alt-ctrl-delete and get the task manager, is there a top priority combination in linux that give you terminal? Or any other way ... Run on Ubuntux86 with GNOME , 2GB RAM, dual core cpu

  I have an app where users have a role,a username,faculty and so on.When I'm looking for a list of users by their role or faculty or anything they have in common I can call (among others possible) @users = User.find_by_role(params[:role]) #or @users = User.find_by_shift(params[:shift]) So it keeps the system Class.find_by_property So the question is: What if at different points users lists should be generated based on different properties.I mean: I'm passing from different links params[:role] or params[:faculty] or params[:department] to my list action in my users controller.As I see it all has to be in that action,but which parameter should the search be made by?
