    Hi, I am trying to get some percentage data from a stored procedure using code similar to the line below. Obviously this is going to cause a (Divide by zero error encountered) problem when base.[XXX_DataSetB] returns 0 which may happen some of the time. Does anyone know how i can deal with this in the most efficient manner? Note: There would be about 20+ lines looking like the one below... cast((base.[XXX_DataSetB] - base.[XXX_DataSetA]) as decimal) / base.[XXX_DataSetB] as [XXX_Percentage]

  • [C++] Is it possible to roll a significantly faster version of sqrt

    In an app I'm profiling, I found that in some scenarios this functions are able to take over 10% of total execution time. I've seen discussion over the years of faster sqrt implementations using sneaky floating-point trickery, but I don't know if such things are outdated on modern CPUs. MSVC++ 2008 compiler is being used, for reference... though I'd assume sqrt is not going to add much overhead though.

    I'm writing a program in .NET that will need to utilize the statistical and data analysis functions of R or MATLAB. I have used R but am now contemplating moving to MATLAB since it has a .Net compiler while R can only interface via COM objects. Can anyone recommend going either way? I know MATLAB is infinitely more expensive than R (since R is free) but I'm thinking that may translate to an easier development cycle?

After reading the info (plain text) it looks a bit ugly. Therefore I need an efficient way to store the graph in a way that I can easily access nodes, their neighbors and the neighbors' neighbors. Accessing this column using the variable is easy using bracket notation: df <- data.frame(A = rep(1, 10), B = rep(2, 10)) column.name <- 'B' df[,column.name] But it is not obvious how to access an arbitrary column using a call to with(). The naive approach with(df, column.name) effectively evaluates column.name in the caller's environment. How can I delay evaluation sufficiently that with() will provide the same results that brackets give?

    In Haskell, there is a function "take n list" which returns the first n elements from a list. For example "sum (take 3 xs)" sums up the first three elements in the list xs. Does F# have an equivalent? I expected it to be one of the List-functions, but I can't spot anything that seems to match.

    Hi All Visual studio allow you to create "inlined" classes (if I am not mistaken with the name). So class header and implementation all in one file. H. file contain definitions and declarations of the class and functions, there is no .cpp file at all. So I was wondering if there is any penalty for doing it that way? any disadvantages ?     I am trying to make a ranking manager for a small project.The totals are stored in the database.I can easily get the max and min using mysql and also arrange the records descending.The problem comes in when there is a tie.I need to show a tie in the form:1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,7,7,7, etc.The repeated numbers will show the ties.I have been thinking of ways of achieving the above but i need more ideas;mine is seems long and complicated.
