    I'm embarking on a GUI Activity composed of a viewflipper, which I would like to contain 10 linearlayout layouts. Is it advisable to put all of my layouts into the same XML resource/layout file? If not, is there a more organized approach to coding a viewflipper with many layouts? Will having everything in the same file come at a significant performance cost?

  • .Net Com Interop Create Instance Slow

    I have a .net 4 application that uses a Com Dll to send SMS messages. I used TlbImp to create the interop assembly and that is what is referenced in the application. When I try to create an instance of this class, it takes a really long time (2-5 seconds). I ran performance profile in VS 2010 and the call that takes the longest by far is System.Activator.CreateInstance(). I am looking for tips on how to debug or gotchas with using Com Interop.

  • Is there any reason to prefer UTF-16 over UTF-8?

    Examining the attributes of UTF-16 and UTF-8, I can't find any reason to prefer UTF-16. However, checking out Java and C#, it looks like strings and chars there default to UTF-16. I was thinking that it might be for historic reasons, or perhaps for performance reasons, but couldn't find any information. Anyone knows why these languages chose UTF-16? And is there any valid reason for me to do that as well?

    I can see how a cipher can be developed using substitutions and keys, and how those two things can become more and more complex, thus offering some protection from decryption through brute-force approaches. But specifically I'm wondering: what other major concepts beyond substitution and key are involved? is the protection/secrecy of the key a greater vulnerability than the strength of the encryption? why does encryption still hold up when the key is 'public' ? are performance considerations a major obstacle to the development of more secure encryption?

    Just notice that after updating to Safari 5 (mac) all the flash applications that respond to resize events got sluggish. try: http://www.tutorio.com/media/flash/liquid-demo.html this works great with firefox 3.6.3, Chrome can deal with it fine, although not so fast as Firefox, but new Safari gives a awful experience, distorting all content if you do fast resizing. Any ideas why is this happening / and how can I get a better performance with safari browsers?

The additional query: SELECT COUNT(1) AS `zend_paginator_row_count` FROM `content` The normal query: SELECT `content`.`id`, `content`.`name` FROM `content` LIMIT 2 PHP: $adapter = new Zend_Paginator_Adapter_DbSelect($table->select()->from($table, array('id', 'name'))); $paginator = new Zend_Paginator($adapter); Could I merge the two querys into one (for better performance)?

I can see that with a single thread it is taking a hell lot of time to move the files one by one. Multiple threads is improving the copy performance, but I don't know what should be the exact number of threads. I am using Java executor service to create the thread pool.

    Hi all, I am writing an iPad app that downloads a rather large .csv file and parses the file into objects stored in Core Data. The program keeps crashing, and I've run it along with the Allocations performance tool and can see that it's eating up memory.     Are there any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files? The reason I'm asking is that I frequently use a custom PY2EXE script that UPX's copies of these files on every build. Yes, I could get fancy and try to cache UPXed files, but I think a simpler, safer, and higher performance solution would be for me to just UPX my Python 2.6.4 directory once and be done with it.     I have a UIViewController and I'm noticing that I've done something to where the didReceiveMemoryWarning method is getting called every time I run it on an actual device. I've run the project with Run Run With Performance Tool Object Allocations (and Leaks also). There are no leaks but I have no idea how to read or understand the "Object Allocations" data that is displayed. So ... How do I read this information and what is/are the best ways to figure out (and resolve) why this is happening? Thanks
