• Model association changes in production environment, specifically converting a model to polymorphic?

  Hi everyone, I was hoping I could get feedback on major changes to how a model works in an app that is in production already. In my case I have a model Record, that has_many PhoneNumbers. Currently it is a typical has_many belongs_to association with a record having many PhoneNumbers. Of course, I now have a feature of adding temporary, user generated records and these records will have PhoneNumbers too. I 'could' just add the user_record_id to the PhoneNumber model, but wouldn't it be better for this to be a polymorphic association? And if so, if you change how a model associates, how in the heck would I update the production database without breaking everything? .< Anyway, just looking for best practices in a situation like this.   I have an Email body that used to be plain text, but now I've made it HTML. The emails are generated using a number of methods and none of them are easy to convert. What I have is: Some content [email protected], some http://www.somewebsite/someurl.aspx. What I'd like to do is create a function that automatically encloses all email addresses and all URLs within a string in HREF tags so that the HTML email reads properly in all email clients. Does anyone have a function for this?

  I want to create a Google Closure Compiler plugin for eclipse. I already have a popup menu entry to compile a Javascript file to its minified version. But it would be more than helpful if every time you save a *.js that minified version would be generated automatically. I read/heard about natures and builders, extension points and IResourceChangeListener. But I did not manage to figure out what I should use and especially how to get it to work. Is there a working example of a plugin that does "the same kind of thing" so I can work from that or a tutorial to write such?   Here's a situation which I have encountered, creating a form on the client side and using PHP to process. Here are some considerations The PHP script generates the form and send to the client side. This is because of internationalization issues The client side uses JavaScript to submit form; the ID of the form is hard-coded inside the JavaScript as it is generated by PHP. This means everytime the PHP code is updated, the JS must change. The question here is, who should be dependent on who? Should the JS generate the form instead, so that the PHP script has to know the names of the form elements? OR should it be the other way round?

• Splitting a UL into three even lists

  I am printing a menu using UL, the trouble is the order that is generated by my script is ignored because im printing the LI one after the other and they're spanning three across. So the order is 1 , 2 , 3 as opposed to 1 2 3 To counteract this i wanted to split my single UL into three that way the order would be maintained. • FILE Type Not Recognized in MFC

  I'm using FILE type in my MFC project but after compiled, it shows the following errors: Error 23 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int Error 24 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int Error 22 error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'm_pFileW' Those errors are referring to this code: FILE *m_pFileW; Did I missing any library header to use FILE syntax? Do I need to use different approach and replace FILE syntax? This errors are only generated when I placed it into my MFC project. This is not happening in C++ Console. Please help. Thank you.

  I get this error after I created a class from my xsd file using the xsd.exe tool. So I searched the net and found a solution. Here is the link: http://satov.blogspot.com/2006/12/xsdexe-generated-classes-causing.html Problem is that this makes the code run, but somehow the deserialized data seems corrupt. I did what the site suggests and in the end the 2nd array dimension is always empty (see the comments of the site, somebody also had this problem). Question is, how do I solve this issue now? Is there another tool to create the xsd file? I tried Xsd2Code, without success. Thanks :-)

  I am trying to hash or encrypt a record's ID for URL's such that people can't view various records simply by guessing different integer ID's. Essentially, my URL's would be something like this: /plans/0AUTxwoGkOYfiZGd2 instead of /plans/304. Would the best way to do this just be to use SHA-1 to hash the plan's id and store it in a hashed_id column for plans? Then, overwrite to_param and add a finder to find by hashed_id? How do you ensure that the characters generated are 0-9, a-z, or A-Z? Thanks!

  I would like to edit the ASP.NET MVC templates for Visual Studio so that any new action or controller created has a specific piece of code within it by default. • Why hashCode() returns the same value for a object in all consecutive executions?

  Hi, I am trying some code around object equality in java. As I have read somewhere hashCode() is a number which is generated by applying the hash function. Hash Function can be different for each object but can also be same. At the object level, it returns the memory address of the object. Now, I have sample program, which I run 10 times, consecutively. Every time i run the program I get the same value as hash code. If hashCode() function returns the memory location for the object, how come the java(JVM) store the object at same memory address in the consecutive runs? Can you please give me some insight and your view over this issue?

  The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it. I don't know if that makes any sense as this is my first time working on .Net

• Possible to use Javascript to access the client side's network(knowingly)

  I recently found an exploit in my router to basically give me root access. The catch? There is a nonce hidden form value that is randomly generated and must be sent in for it to work that makes it difficult to do "easily" So basically I'm wanting to do something like this in javascript: get http://192.168.1.254/blah use a regex or similar to extract the nonce value put the nonce value into a hidden field in the current page submit the form by POST to http://192.168.1.254/blah complete with the nonce value and other form values I want to send in. Is this at all possible using only HTML and Javascript? I'm open to things like "must save HTML file locally and then open", which I'm thinking is one way around the cross domain policy. But anyway, is this at all possible? I'm hoping for this to be able to run from at least Firefox and Chrome. The audience for this is those with some technical know how.

  I am working on an MVC 5 App that pulls data from Dynamics CRM 5. The Data I am getting back is an IQueryable of type Account (The CRM Entity class auto generated by CrmSvcUtil). • 2 Spaces or 1 Tab, what's the standard for indentation in the Rails Community?

  I've noticed that most of the HTML/XML/HAML that gets generated from plugins uses 2 spaces instead of 1 tab. I use textmate and have tabs set to 4 spaces for HAML/HTML/XML and 2 spaces for Javascript/Ruby, but I only have to press the tab key once to get nice indentation. Pressing the space bar twice and delete twice seems like too much work :p. Do you manually type two spaces, or is some middle layer converting tabs to two spaces? Or do just a few of you use tabs?

• C# Why does calling an interface member from a class generate an error?

  So I have an interface: interface IFoo { int Bar(); int this[int i] {get; set;} } And a class that derives from it class Foo : IFoo { public int IFoo.Bar() { //Implementation { public int IFoo.this[int i] { //Implementation } } Now, I try to do this: var fooey = new Foo(); int i = Fooey.Bar(); or this: int i = Fooey[4]; I would expect these to work properly. However, the compiler generates an error as if such members don't exist. Why is that? I am aware I can cast Foo as IFoo, but I am also aware that casting is costly to performance, which is often the reason to use interfaces in the first place. EDIT 1: These are the errors generated 'Foo' does not contain a definition for 'Bar' and no extension method 'Bar' accepting a first argument of type 'Foo' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) "Cannot apply indexing to an expression of type 'Foo'"

• CSS and JQuery: spaces inside image name break code of url()

  Hi, I have a page that is supposed to display a larger version of an image when hovered over a thumbnail. I have a 'div' with an ID and the JQuery code is as following: $(document).ready(function(){ $('img').hover(function() { var src = $("#im" + this.id).attr("src"); $('#viewlarge').css('backgroundImage','url(' + src +')'); return false; }); }); The images I use, are generated by a Ruby script that "generate" an image with a similar, yet different id. However, sometimes, photo's are uploaded that have "spaces" inside. My developer tools tell me that the background-image is not set correctly, yet the image path is correct and the browser don't have problems finding the image. My question is, can I somehow sanitize the url 'src', so spaces won't be a problem? I am aware of doing this server side, yet I would like to know how to do this with JQuery/JS too. Thanks!

  I have a method containing code to create a pdf doc using the QuickPdf library. Inside the method, I instantiate a QuickPdf object, create the pdf doc and save it to a file. I then call this method for each file to be generated. Now my problem is that the pdf docs' sizes are increasing with each call to the method even though the contents are basically the same . I am suspecting a memory leak but I cant see where exactly, since the QuickPdf object is being created and disposed each time on each call.

• how to generate uncorrelated random numbers in repeated calls in parallel?

  I want to write a function which will be repeatedly called by other functions many times. Inside this function it is supposed to generate a lot of random numbers and this part will be treated in parallel. If only for one run, the seed can be chosen differently for each thread, so that the random numbers will be uncorrelated. However, if this function will be called the 2nd time, it seems that the random numbers will repeat unless the seed will be again changed during the later calls. So my question is, is there a good way to generate the random numbers or reset the seed so that the random numbers generated by repeated calls to this function and also by different threads are really random?
