  I have a drop down menu in an ASPX page along the lines of: <form> <select name="cars"> <option value="volvo">Volvo</option> <option value="saab">Saab</option> <option value="fiat" selected="selected">Fiat</option> <option value="audi">Audi</option> </select> </form> That is dynamically generated from another controller (value and label). After the user selects one of the options I need to find out what the selected value/label (will be the same) is so I can hit an update button and retrieve the data on that option. What would be the easiest way to find out the value of the user "selected" option?

  In the controller, how can I add a variable at the end of a params[]? If I try this I get an error: params[:group_] + variable How should it be done? Edit per request Ok, I have a form that sets groups of radio buttons with names like this: group_01DRN0 Obviously I have different groups in the form (group_01AAI0, group_01AUI0, etc.) and the value is set according to the radio button selected within the group: Radio button "group_01DRN0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", radio button "group_01AAI0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", etc. In the DB I have every code (01DRN0, 01AAI0, 01AUI0, etc) so I want to select them from DB and iterate in the params value so I can get the radio button group value, I've tried this with no luck: @codes=Code.get_codes for c in @codes @all=params[:group_] + c.name end Thanks.

• ASP.NET MVC: How can I explain an invalid type violation to an end-user with Html.ValidationSummary?

  Serious n00b warning here; please take mercy! So I finished the Nerd Dinner MVC Tutorial and I'm now in the process of converting a VB.NET application to ASP.NET MVC using the Nerd Dinner program as a sort of rough template. I am using the "IsValid / GetRuleViolations()" pattern to identify invalid user input or values that violate business rules. I am using LINQ to SQL and am taking advantage of the "OnValidate()" hook that allows me to run the validation and throw an application exception upon trying to save changes to the database via the CustomerRepository class. Anyway, everything works well, except that by the time the form values reach my validation method invalid types have already been converted to a default or existing value. (I have a "StreetNumber" property that is an integer, though I imagine this would be a problem for DateTime or any other non-strings as well.) Now, I am guessing that the UpdateModel() method throws an exception and then alters the value because the Html.ValidationMessage is displayed next to the StreetNumber field but my validation method never sees the original input. There are two problems with this: While the Html.ValidationMessage does signal that something is wrong, there is no corresponding entry in the Html.ValidationSummary. If I could even get the exception message to show up there indicating an invalid cast or something that would be better than nothing. My validation method which resides in my Customer partial class never sees the original user input so I do not know if the problem is a missing entry or an invalid type. I can't figure out how I can keep my validation logic nice and neat in one place and still get access to the form values. I could of course write some logic in the View that processes the user input, however that seems like the exact opposite of what I should be doing with MVC. Do I need a new validation pattern or is there some way to pass the original form values to my model class for processing?   Hi there, Im trying to install ubuntu v10.10 64bit on my pc. Unfortunately when I try to boot the installation from my usb-drive the installation begins with asking for a username and password.. I didn't set up a user or a password for that matter, so what username/pass should I fill in. I already tried to submit the form blank and with root / root but without success.. • Multiple Post Requests Occuring in Quick Succession

  This is a bit of an open ended question but we have a problem with a web application that on the final step of completing an order, multiple post requests are being made, sometimes up to 10 and all within a couple of seconds to the page. Theirs nothing unusual about the page, the user fills out a form which is then validated using the jQuery form validation plugin. We've seen this behavior exhibited over a couple of different browser types, notably IE6 but also IE8. We've also managed to trigger the bug ourselves but nothing out of the ordinary seems to occur on the browsers end, everything progresses as normal. Apache logs show that multiple post requests where made at the same time and the Rails logs show that multiple posts requests were also received by the application, leading me to think it's a problem with the browser. I've exhausted all avenues that I can think of for debugging so I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone has some ideas of what we could try or look for next.

• Two "subdomains" crossing search results

  My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and domain). All schools in the state are issued a .qld.edu.au, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as "calvary christian college townsville" (if you check the sitelinks 2/6 are to a different domain). I've put a demotion in for this ages ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime this week. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au. We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

• YUI Autocomplete: itemSelectEvent getting lost with IE6 and IE7?

  I'm using YUI Autocomplete (latest version loaded using loader as of today (May 14th, 2010), which looks to be 2.8.1, with the following options: ac = new YAHOO.widget.AutoComplete("mynode", "autocomp_node", ac_ds, {typeAhead: true, forceSelection: true}); ac.itemSelectEvent.subscribe( function(type, args) { alert("hey:" + args[2][1]); $('#parent_id').val(args[2][1]); }); The itemSelectEvent catches selections in AutoComplete and fills in some data on the parent. This works on FF, Chrome, Safari, and IE8. On IE6 and IE7, however, the event never seems to trigger. To replicate: In the autocomplete field, allow it to autofill for you, then hit enter. This should select the autofill and move on to the next field (that's what it does in other browsers). With IE6 and IE7 it seems to instead trigger the form submission - the itemSelectEvent never fires (or perhaps fires after the form submission?). Has anyone seen this? Any work-arounds?

  AFAIK, there are 2 ways to make search engines aware of a sitemap's location: Include an absolute link to it in robots.txt Submit it to them directly. The relevant URLs are: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ping?sitemap=SITEMAP_URL http://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?sitemap=SITEMAP_URL Where SITEMAP_URL is the absolute URL of the sitemap. Currently, I do both. Regarding (2), I have a job that runs automatically every day which submits the sitemap to Bing and Google. I don't think there's any reason to do (1) and (2), but I'm paranoid, so I do. I imagine you can avoid both (1) and (2) if you just make your sitemap accessible at a conventional URL (like robots.txt). What's the simplest and most reliable way to ensure that search engines can find your sitemap?

• How can I disable a button in a JQuery dialog from a function?

  Hi, I have a JQuery dialog that requires the user to enter certain information. In this form I have a "continue" button. I would like this "continue" button to only be enabled once all the fields have content in them else it will remain disabled. I wrote a function that is called everytime a field status has changed however I don't know how to enable and disable the dialog button from this function. Any ideas? • Can jQuery UI's Sortable handle complex selectors for the items option?

  I have list items in an unordered list that when double clicked, can be edited in place via a wysiwyg editor. $('ul.mtm_section').sortable({ disabled: true, distance: 10, items: '> li:not(:has(form))' }); My goal is to prevent the list item from being sorted while it is being edited - aka once a form element has been swapped in place of the contents. Unfortunately my selector for items is not working. Is sortable able to handle complex selectors like these? If not, are there other clever means to disable some items from being sortable, perhaps a callback function? I would prefer to rely on this sortable option, as the wysiwyg plugin is deeply nested with jEditable and as far as I know does not open up any events for me to hook into. Using jQuery 1.4.2 and jQuery UI 1.8.1

Problem: Getting an error like: "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program." The above error occurs while scanning for older version of Access files like prior to office 2000. • How to load images and fragments dynamically in LiveCycle Designer forms?

  Hi there. I've created a couple of shared templates (.xdp) which will be shared among several clients. Obviously, each client has their own logo and I'd like to set the logo upon form generation. I've managed to change the logo dynamically although I'm not sure if my approach is good. In the xml datasource I've got this element: <ClientID>SomeNumber</ClientId> In the form itself I set the image href with this javascript code: SomeHiddenTextField::calculate HeaderLogo.value.image.href = $record.ClientID + "_logo.jpg"; I've got the logos stored on the server in the same folder as the shared templates. Is this an alright approach to load logos dynamically? I've been trying to achieve the same dynamic behaviour with each client's footer fragment, but I have been unable to figure out how to load these on demand. I could make each footer fragment in to an image but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

• Update Message on ASP.NET ModelPopupExtender

  Hi, I have a form in a MS AJAX ModalPopup Extender, which is in a UpdatePanel (for async loading). Everything works as expected. There is one thing that I am trying to do but not sure how to do it. On form submission, there is server side validation on top of client side validation. My question is: what is the best way to display validation error messages if any? It would be ideal if the messages could be written to the popup asynchronously so that the popup is still there. If this is not possible, I am thinking of displaying the messages using the JavaScript alert box. Any insight and suggestions are greatly appreciated. John

• Reading int from a hidden field in .aspx

  Hi, I'm struggling to read an int from the hidden field on aspx page. <input type = "hidden" id = "myIntegerId" name = "integerId" value= "<%: Model.MyObjectId %>" runat = "server" /> The value is definately on the form, I can see it in the debugger and print it with <%: % When I read the form values in the controller, instead of an int I recieve a following string: <%: Model.MyObjectId % I have tried casting data in the hidden field to string and calling ToString() method on that field, neither has worked. The data is submitted using the post event. I have a feeling that I'm missing something very basic... Any help is greately appreciated. Thanks

• ASP.NET Granting access to local resources

  Hi all I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory. I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml. I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ? thanks

• Concurrency Utilities for Java EE 6: JSR 236 Rebooting

The JSR 236's, a.k.a Concurrency Utilities for Java EE, goal was to extend that support to the Java EE platform by adding asynchronous abilities to different application components. The EG was however stagnant since Dec 2003. Its coming back to life with the co-spec lead Anthony Lai's message to the JSR 236 EG (archived here). The JSR will be operating under JCP 2.8's transparency rules and can be tracked at concurrency-spec.java.net. All the mailing lists are archived here. The final release is expected in Q1 2013 and the APIs will live in the javax.enterprise.concurrent package. Please submit your nomination if you would like to join this EG.

• Handle Enter Key on Website (ASP and VB)

  So I have a website with multiple asp controls. When I press enter inside by login form, the search function runs because it's the first thing found on the page. How would I handle the enter button so that when the active textbox is for the login form, the loginbutton code actually runs rather than the searchbutton. One last problem is that the login controls are inside a loginview so the hierarchy shows that the asp:textbox and asp:button for logging in are inside 3 tags like so: <loginview> <login> <logintemplate> //controls are here. </logintemplate> </login> Just a note that all controls are asp and that all code is prefered in VB.
