• Can't reach custom C# forms application remotely.

  Hello, I'm working in Windows Server 2008. I have a very basic C# forms application (not a service) that is listening on a port, say 56112. When using telnet I can connect from the localhost and send and receive data. For some reason I cannot remotely connect to the application. I know I have a connection because I can telnet to 23 on the remotely fine. I've opened this port on the firewall, created rules in/out in advanced firewall, disabled the firewall completely, and more. Any suggestions would be great! • View unknown content-types in Firefox?

  A certain URL on my server returns Content-Type: application/json. The filename ends with .phtml, so whenever I go to it, Firefox 3.5 asks me if I want to save it or open it with another program. But the answer is neither; I want to view it in Firefox as if it was text/plain. Suggestions? The Applications tab of the Preferences window doesn't give this as an option for the "PHTML" type which now is listed in there (ever since I tried to open it with no external program).

• Moving a window from a disconnected monitor to connected monitor on Vista

  I have a laptop that runs Vista Mega Ultimate Amazing for Business 64-bit. When at work, I connect a monitor via USB (which totally rocks) to the "left" of the laptop monitor. It's identified as monitor 3. At home, I use an old CRT monitor that sits to the right of the laptop monitor. It's monitor 2. Monitor 1 is, of course, the inbuilt laptop monitor. Now at home I open a window, any window, on monitor 2. Then I come to work and plug in monitor 3. Anything I had open on monitor 2 is now stuck in unretrievable land. (Actually, it's probably anything that was minimised when I left home that belonged on monitor 2 will expand back onto monitor 2, even though it's disconnected) How can I get those windows back onto connected monitors?

• Windows Server 2003 (as workstation) unable to write to Samba fileshares

  Setup is a Samba fileserver under Linux, which i am trying to access from a Windows Server 2003 box which has been reconfigured as a workstation. I can log onto the fileshares and can copy/delete files, but trying to open a file then write to it fails. Renaming files also fails with an error about requiring a filename. Drag/dropping files onto Xemacs gives me a message about copying from the network zone, and once open the file is read-only. Any ideas of what is wrong? I suspect it is a miscommunication of security details, as folder security options are all unchecked (checking them has no effect). I know it is not a problem with Samba itself, as Window2000, WindowsXP, and Nautulas (under Linux) can all access/edit fileshare files fine using the same userid/password. I am not using domain logins.

• Is it possible to use the IE10 App without making Internet Explorer the default browser?

  Windows 8 comes with two versions of Internet Explorer: the normal desktop version, which looks just like IE9, and the Modern UI version, which is a full-screen tablet-style app. By default, links opened in desktop mode open in desktop IE, and links opened in Modern UI apps open in the full-screen app. When you set a new default browser (like Google Chrome, which has a Modern UI mode now), you can no longer access IE10 in the Modern UI at all - the tile disappears from the start screen, and there's no way to manually invoke it. I don't use IE10 much, but I'd like to have access to it in Metro mode, because it's handy for testing things out. I don't want to have IE be my default browser though. Is there any way to get the IE10 "App" to show up without setting IE to be the default browser everywhere?

• Vim: How to install plugin for a particular filetype?

  Yesterday I came across jedi-vim plugin which provides auto-completion for python. I installed the plugin using pathogen by placing it in bundle directory and it is working fine. Now, as I have mentioned that this plugin is only for filetype: python so I want to load it only when I open files with .py extensions and not when I open other files like .java, .perl, .sh. So, how can this be achieved. I am a vim beginner/noob but I googled before asking and found that this can be achieved using vim ftplugin but I have no idea whatsoever where to place which file.

• How do I change the default browser in lotus notes when opening links in emails?

  I can't seem to figure out how to change the default browser for email/sametime links from opening with lotus notes to say chrome/firefox/ie. All links open with a new tab in lotus notes, which always gives scripting errors as it appears to be using ie as it's rendering engine to open up webpages. Is there something in the preferences that I'm missing that I'm not seeing? I've hunted around for awhile and am not seeing an option to change it. I've also tried to change it within the internet options for default applications, but nothing's working. I'm using lotus notes 8 on windows xp if that helps anyone helping me.

• How to Unblock Previously Unblocked CHM File

  Wierd? Anyway, on Windows 7, I've downloaded a CHM file on the desktop and unblocked it by Property > Unblock. I moved the CHM file to a folder on the desktop to organize the files, and when I opened the file, the content of the CHM reader couldn't open the pages in the CHM file. I've open the file property, but the unblocked button is gone. Well, I can simply download the file, though I find the problem interesting and I need to know how to troubleshoot it. So, how can I unblock the said file? Update Clarified location. I was referring to a folder in the desktop, not in network drive.

  My plan is to add a automatic reply to all incoming emails for a exchange mailbox. I created a rule that would check all incoming and created the template reply. Created it so it would match a server rule so outlook would not have to be open. If I send an email from my work account on the same exchange server, it works and sends the reply I created. With outlook open or closed. However, when I send email from outside the company, (my personal email), it does not get a reply. What the heck is going on there? I think the issue is within the selection of who the email is too. I have tried "only to me" "where my name is in TO or CC" as well as "sent to people or distribution list". So any ideas of why this isn't working. I thought this question was a super user question as appose to server fault. Thank you,

  Hello, i want to update Preview.app in the background from the command line without losing focus of my current window. I know that i can use the following to open/update the view of a file, but than i lose focus to the Preview.app. open -a Preview foo.pdf I guess there might be some clever Apple Script commands to do so but so far i didn't find the right one. Alternatively i would be interested into transfering the focus back to my current app directly after the update. I need this in order to update Preview.app's view of a pdf through a vi autocmd after i update the pdf according to changes in a tex file i am editing. Here is an example of what i want to achive but using Ubuntu and evince.

  Hi there, I'm new to Python. I use Python 2.7 and I am running Windows Vista (64-bit). How do I make it when I click on .py scripts... that it opens up in IDLE so I can edit it a snap? Ya know... without having to open IDLE by itself. Heh. I got all the way to C:\Python27\Lib\idlelib but I don't see the IDLE application.   I had a virus adware on my desktop. I cleaned it using AVG. Now no browser will open, though the Internet connection is fine. When trying to open any browser I get a dialog box that says it can't find that location. This happens to all my browsers. I even downloaded firefox on my laptop and installed it on the desktop and still get the same response - Windows can't find the location. This all started when opening an email. The server send to client 3KB of data, instead of traditional HTTP or SOCKS proxy, the server open multithreaded transfer with 3 connections, send 1KB of data per thread to each connection The client receives 1KBx3, and combine them to the original 3KB data, and return as a local HTTP proxy server. The client display the original data in browser via the local HTTP proxy The latency is not important as long as the transfer rate is good. Does any software like this exist? It's better if it's open source or free ones.

• Forcing Acrobat Reader font

  Hello, I have a netbook with Linpus Linux and I'm trying to open automatically generated documents with Acrobat Reader that use Verdana but without having it embedded inside the PDF file. Linpus doesn't come natively with any Verdana font so I had to install them inside /usr/share/fonts/by doing mkfontdirand fc-cacheto force a recache of the fonts. Then I've been able to select it inside other programs (eg. OpenOffice) but I'm still unable to open these PDFs. It seems that Acrobat is unable to find the font anyway. Since I have no control on how these PDFs are generated, is there a way to force Acrobat to use a specific font is the one it needs is unfound? Or maybe Acrobat needs a different kind of font configuration on Linux? Thanks in advance

• OS X Login Authentication Against Leopard Server

  I am doing a few tests with OS X Server before I have to do a deploy in a few months. I have configured Open Directory, and created a few users. I've configured Directory Utility on a 10.5 client, but the login authentication doesn't work the way I would expect. I would expect I could user a username/password from any user created in Open Directory and be able to log into the client. Instead, it appears I need to create a local user, which you then sync with a directory user using Directory Utility. Alternatively, if I add an Active Directory config to the client, I can use any AD user, as I would expect. Am I hoping for the impossible, or is something likely wrong with the configuration?

• How can I get ssh-agent working over ssh and in tmux (on OS X)?

  I have a private key set up for my github account, the passphrase to which is, I believe, stored in OS X's keychain. I certainly don't have to type it in when I open a terminal window and enter ssh [email protected]. However, when I'm running bash over an ssh session, or locally inside a tmux session, I have to type in the passphrase every single time I attempt to ssh to github. This question suggests that a similar problem exists with screen, but I don't really understand the issue well enough to fix it in tmux. There's also this page which includes a fairly complicated solution, but for zsh. • Can't drag files from Explorer into Notepad++ running as administrator on Windows 8

  If I have Notepad++ running as administrator, I can't drag files from explorer on to it (they are rejected with the 'stop' cursor) and if I try to use the explorer extension right click 'Edit with Notepad++' it throws an error. Opening the files using the Notepad++ 'Open' dialog, or even double clicking them in Explorer works as it should. (Note double clicking is not a solution as very few of the files I want to open are default to Notepad++) I have UAC set to 'never notify'. Using the hack where UAC 'admin approval mode' is disabled fixes the issue, but kills the ability to use Metro apps.

• Port forwarding not working properly

  I'm trying to host a small web server from my home network; however, I have not been able to successfully port forward ports to the local server. My current network topology looks like this: Cable Modem/Router - Secondary Wireless Router - Many computers (including server) The modem/router I'm using is a Cisco (Scientific Atlantic) DPC2100, provided by my ISP. The wireless router that I'm using as the central hub to my home network is a Linksys E3000. The computer being used as a server is running Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition. The main issue is that I can't access the server remotely, using my WAN IP address. I have port forwarded my wireless router; however, I believe that I need to somehow set my modem to bridge mode. As far as I can tell though, this isn't possible. Here are the various IP address settings: DPC2100 WAN: 69.xxx.xxx.xxx Internal IP: 192.168.100.1 Internal Network: 192.168.7.0 E3000 IP Address: 192.168.7.2 Gateway: 192.168.7.1 Internal IP: 192.168.1.1 Internal Network: 192.168.1.0 Server IP Address: 192.168.1.123 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Now I can do an nmap at various nodes, and here are the results (from the server): nmap localhost: 22,25,53,80,110,139,143,445,631,993,995,3306,5432,8080 open nmap 192.168.7.2: 22,25,80 (filtered),110,139,445 open (ports I have forwarded in the E3000)* nmap 69.xxx.xxx.xxx: 1720 open *For some reason, I can SSH into the server at 192.168.7.2, but not view the website. • Mountain Lion screen crashes after returning from sleep

  During the past 3 days I have experienced the following issue: when returning from sleep, I see an extremely garbled version of my desktop. The only thing that seems to help is a reboot. My first guess is that this is related to the video card. After looking into this issue, I found a lot of problems related to ML and returning from sleep, such as this post on AskDifferent, but I think this is a different issue because it does not speak of a garbled screen. Some more details: System: MacBook Pro 15" early 2011, 2,2GHZ I7, 8GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD6750M 1024 The issue seems to happen only when I open my laptop in the morning; if I close and open my laptop during the day, it does not seem to happen. The issue 'solves' when rebooting. Photo of how this looks: Update November 27th 2012: I re-installed my laptop a couple of weeks ago, which seemed to have solved the problem, but sadly, it still persists.

• Saving Photoshop workspace doesn't remember docked panel state

  A friend of mine has recently setup his computer with a fresh install of Windows 7 and Photoshop CS5. He's having a strange issue with saved workspaces not remembering the state of docked panels. As an example, he's docked several panels on the right of the screen. The Layers panel is docked but is open, showing all layers in the document. If he saves this as a workspace, closes and reopens Photoshop and loads the workspace, the Layers panel is docked but is closed. It's not the only panel this is happening with. It's not a big problem but he's having to open 4 panels and drag them to the appropriate height each time he starts Photoshop. Does anyone know of a possible fix for this? Any insight would be great.

• NAT Error Message - Usage limit exceeded

  Trying to configure a port to use for Vuze. Using the NAT/server port test, I was getting a message saying the connection timed out, the port was probably closed. I went back and made sure to open the specific port on my router, firewall, etc, but now I'm getting "NAT Error - Usage limit exceeded (173.32.41.24:0). I'm on a mac pro running leopard, trial versions of intego netbarrier and virusbarrier. Network utilities and netbarrier both claim the port is open. I've tested a bunch of other ports, but all give the same message.

• Website hosted on IIS is not accessbile

  I have two sites set up in IIS on a remote machine RM; one on regular port 80, and the other on port 5773. From my local machine LM, I can access the site on 80, but I cannot access the one on 5773; I get a status code of 502 and an error code of 10060 (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond) when I try to do this. I can access the 5773 site via IIS when I am logged into RM (i.e. by right clicking on a page on the site and going 'Browse'). I can also access pages on the 5773 site via a browser, again when I am logged into RM. I just can't do the same via a browser when I am logged into LM. I have ensured that port 5773 is open for outgoing traffic on LM. Could the problem be that I also need to ensure that port 5773 is open for inbound traffic on RM?

  I am running VLC 1.1.5 64-bit on Mac OS X 10.6.6. On the web I found instructions saying I should click on Video-Advanced Controls in the menu bar to reveal options that let me trim and cut video clips. However, there is no such option in my copy of VLC. What I want to do is cut a ~2 minute portion from the middle of a two hour footage (in MXF format that QuickTime can't open) that I've got. Is there another way to trim and cut clips of videos in VLC? Or should I use other (preferably free, Free, and open source) software? Thanks.

• Limit number of simultaneous connections squid makes to a single server

  Note: I am asking about outbound concurrent connection limits, not inbound, which is sufficiently covered on existing questions Modern browsers typically open a large number of simultaneous connections, to take advantage of the fact that TCP fairly shares bandwidth between connections. Of course, this doesn't result in fair sharing between users, so some servers have started penalizing hosts which open too many connections. This limit can be configured client-side (e.g. IE MaxConnectionsPerServer, Firefox network.http.max-connections-per-server), but the method differs for each browser and version, and many users aren't competent to adjust it themselves. So we turn to a squid transparent HTTP proxy for central management of HTTP download. How can the number of simultaneous connections from squid to a remote webserver be limited, so the webserver doesn't perceive it as abuse of concurrent connections? Ideally the limit would be per source address. Squid should accept virtually unlimited concurrent requests from the client browser, and issue them sequentially to the remote server, only N at a time, delaying (but not dropping) the others.
