  • FileMaker Pro vs CiviCRM

    - by Silvana Procopio
Hello, I would like some input about these two softwares since we are trying to change our current Access database, which has brought many problems and is completely outdated (it was built 10 years ago). These are the 2 options we have in mind and being a non-profit organization (20 employees), it's quite a big decision in particular in terms of costs. Due to the type of business, we will need several hours of development too. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance, Silvana

  • smallest filesize for transparent gif

    - by zaf
I'm looking for the smallest (in terms of filesize) transparent 1 pixel image. Currently I have a gif of 49 bytes which seems to be the most popular. But I remember many years ago having one which was less than 40 bytes. Could have been 32 bytes. Can anyone do better? Graphics format is no concern as long as modern web browsers can display it and respect the transparency.

  • Drupal taxonomy multi-select default value

    - by msindle
I'm using drupal 6.16 and have a set of taxonomy terms that are set up as a multi-select box. I would like for the first item to be selected when the user loads the page. I dont know if I need to add code to a file or just simply change a setting. I should warn you I do not have a lot of experience, but would rate myself as a low intermediate level programmer. Thanks in advance msindle

  • What's a regular language?

    - by Javier Badia
I've read that you can't parse HTML with regular expressions because HTML is not a regular language. I tried searching Wikipedia, but I didn't understand a word of what the various related articles said. Can someone explain, in simpler terms, what's a regular (or non-regular) language, and why non-regular languages can't be parsed with regexes?

  • Creating Read-only logs with python

    - by Travis
I am writing a python script that needs to make a log entry whenever it's invoked. The log created by the script must not be changeable by the user (except root) who invoked the script. I tried the syslog module and while this does exactly what I want in terms of file permissions, I need to be able to put the resulting log file in an arbitrary location. How would I go about doing this?

  • What's the best way to store a MySQL database in source control?

    - by Marplesoft
I am working on an application with a few other people and we'd like to store our MySQL database in source control. My thoughts are two have two files: one would be the create script for the tables, etc, and the other would be the inserts for our sample data. Is this a good approach? Also, what's the best way to export this information? Also, any suggestions for workflow in terms of ways to speed up the process of making changes, exporting, updating, etc.

  • To HTML 5 or not to HTML 5 ?

    - by ZX12R
I am a designer whose main marketing strategy is multi browser compatibility. I assure my clients that the site will work even in IE6 (!). Of late i have been pondering over the question of moving to HTML 5. The reason behind my apprehension is that IE6 is still a major player in terms of market share and i don't want to lose it. Is there any way of moving to HTML 5 and still promise multi browser compatibility? Thank you.

  • Reasons to start a new project in COBOL

    - by luvieere
Are there any feasible reasons to start a new project in COBOL? What benefits of this language one would find convincing enough to start a new project in it? I'm thinking more about viewing the language in terms of Behavior Driven Development, something related to the steps involved in using a framework such as Cucumber, only that behavior description and step definition would be integrated into one unit by using tha language's features.

  • Protecting DLL's

    - by j-t-s
Hi All Quite a few people have really taken interest in the dll's ivé sent them, and they're not the type that should be given away for free too often... I was just wondering, if I were to sell my components, user controls etc, how would I go about protecting them, in terms of ownership/encrypting code (if possible) etc.. What steps have you taken to help prevent people using yours without paying for them? Thank you very much! jt

    - by Alvin
I know randomized UUID have very very very low probability for collision in theory, but I am wondering, in practice, how good is java 5's randonUUID in terms of not having collision? Does anybody have any experience to share?

  • How do you find the disk size of a Postgres table and its indexes

    - by mmrobins
I'm coming to Postgres from Oracle and looking for a way to find the table and index size in terms of bytes/MB/GB/etc, or even better the size for all tables. In Oracle I had a nasty long query that looked at user_lobs and user_segments to give back an answer. I assume in Postgres there's something I can use in the information_schema tables, but I'm not seeing where. Thanks in advance.
