    Background I have a client site that consists of a CakePHP installation and a Magento installation: /web/example.com/ /web/example.com/app/ <== CakePHP /web/example.com/app/webroot/ <== DocumentRoot /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ <== Magento /web/example.com/config/ <== Site-wide config /web/example.com/vendors/ <== Site-wide libraries The server runs Apache 2.2.3. The problem The whole company has FTP access and got used to clogging up the /web/example.com/, /web/example.com/app/webroot/, and /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ directories with their own files. Sometimes these files need HTTP access and sometimes they don't. In any case, this mess makes my job harder when it comes to maintaining the site. Code merges, tarring the live code, etc, is very complicated and usually requires a bunch of filters. Abandoned solution At first, I thought I would set up a new subdomain on the same server, move all of their files there, and change their FTP chroot. But that wouldn't work for these reasons: Firstly, I have no idea (and neither do they remember) what marketing materials they've sent out that contain URLs to certain resources they've uploaded to the server, using the main domain, and also using abstract subdomains that use the main virtual host because it has ServerAlias *.example.com. So suddenly having them only use static.example.com isn't feasible. Secondly, The PHP scripts in their projects are potentially very non-portable. I want their files to stay in as similar an environment as they were built as I can. Also, I do not want to debug their code to make it portable. Half-baked solution After some thought, I decided to find a way to section off the actual website files into another directory that they would not touch. The company's uploaded files would stay where they were. This would ensure that I didn't break any of their projects that needed HTTP access. It would look something like this: /web/example.com/ <== A bunch of their files are in here /web/example.com/app/webroot/ <== 1st DocumentRoot; A bunch of their files are in here /web/example.com/app/webroot/store/ <== Some more are in here /web/example.com/site/ <== New dir; Contains only site files /web/example.com/site/app/ <== CakePHP /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ <== 2nd DocumentRoot /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/store/ <== Magento /web/example.com/site/config/ <== Site-wide config /web/example.com/site/vendors/ <== Site-wide libraries After I made this change, I would not need to pay attention to anything except for the stuff within /web/example.com/site/ and my job would be a lot easier. I would be the only one changing stuff in there. So here's where the Apache magic would happen: I need an HTTP request to http://www.example.com/ to first use /web/example.com/app/webroot/ as the document root. If nothing is found (no miscellaneous uploaded company projects are found), try finding something within /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/. Another thing to keep in mind is, the site might have some problems if the $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] variable reads /web/example.com/app/webroot/ but the actual files are within /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/. It would be better if the DOCUMENT_ROOT environment variable could be /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ for anything within the /web/example.com/site/app/webroot/ directory. Conclusion Is my half-baked solution possible with Apache 2.2.3? Is there a better way to solve this problem?

  • Visual Studio 2008 SignTool.exe not found

    I can't publish in 2008, I was previously using 2005 and it published just fine. Error 2 An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found. I know there are tons of hits for a search on signtool.exe on google. The ones I've found involve copying the file to X,Y,Z locations and ensuring signtool matches up with your VS command prompt path. When I run my start- program files - visual studio 2008 - Visual Studio Tools - Visual Studio Command prompt. and type signtool.exe it finds the file just fine. I have Visual Studio 2005 professional edition, Visual studio 2008 profession edition, Visual studio 2005 SDK February 2007, just installed Visial Studio 2008 SDK1.1 to see if that would fix it, no luck.     When I run debug for my public/index.php I got an application error as output. I've seen that it occurs at this line: foreach($feed->findFeedEntries($entriesLimit) as $entry) If I put a breakpoint before this, all works as expected, I mean, the error is after the line above. If I remove findFeedEntries() method, I can perform debugging without erros.   • Ubuntu web server cluster checks Ubuntu repository for script updates with cron

    I have a cluster of Ubuntu 12.04 web servers running a lamp stack. All of these servers are connected to a Load Balancer on Amazon Web Services. What I want to be able to do is have a dedicated Ubuntu server that I can update the PHP files on and have the other web servers check with cron to get the updates files from the repository. They don't have to use cron but that was the only thing I could think of, unless there was a way to have the updated repository tell them that it has updated files. And then how to transfer those files. Also if there is a ways for a server to check for updated files when it boots because I am going to be using auto scaling on AWS so when there is an increase in the load and another server gets created I need it to download the updated files from the repository when launched. Not sure how to transfer files from server to server.

At first glance I didn't understand how a zip could contain the same file in the same place more than once.   • Scratched DVD keeps freezin when copying files, even with programs.

    Hi, I have a dvd with some family photos that is scratched, the problem is that when i try to copy stuff it reaches certain points and freezes, i'm assuming its the scratches / corrupt data. I've been trying several programs that are supposed to copy corrupt files from damaged media regardless, but they keep freezing when they reach the same points, so no different when with windows. Is there a way to fix the DVD? Or a really really good program that can do that without freezing / allowing windows to freeze? Please help, I don't have any copies of the photos and they are irreplaceable.

  • How do I tell sudo to write files with a umask of 0022?

    I recently upgrading to Snow Leopard. I have noticed that some files written by MacPorts are installed with the wrong permission -- they are written with a umask of 0077. I think I have narrowed down the problem: The port command is invoked via sudo. My .bashrc file specifies a umask of 0077. On older versions of OS X (10.5 and below), sudo used the umask of the root user (which was 0022); however, now it uses my umask of 0077. Is there anyway to have sudo use the old behavior? Right now, it's kind of annoying because I have to use sudo to run simple commands like port installed, port outdated, etc. (The problem is described in more detail in this MacPorts ticket.) Edit I discovered the umask option for sudo, and in /etc/sudoers I added the following line: Defaults umask=0022 However, this did not function as desired, because the real umask used by sudo is the union of the user mask with this default mask.

    I manage an 80,000 user CIS application written in Uniface. Every form in the application, and many of its processes, are represented by .frm files. We have hundreds of these files and 5 instances of the application. Instances include multiple production installations which must be kept sync'd. We do not get MD5 from our vendor for files that are released to us as patches. We have been using a spreadsheet to track changes, but this is far from ideal. Is there a commercial application that can be purchased that will allow us to track changes to the instances? Thank you all! EDIT: Patches are released as zip files with either FRM files in them or SQL files or a mix of both. SQL files will contain statements that need to be run in Oracle. Patches are also assigned unique patch numbers.

    The context of this question, is here. I actually know the answer to my question is yes - like I say in my context, this program can do it (somehow). So the really question is, how can I do it. What code do I put in a simple batch file? (or do I have to compile a tiny c++ exe? and run that exe in the batch file?) Might this code be a solution? (.....EnumDesktopWindows?) To clarify, I know that there's e.g. NirSoft OpenedFilesView which shows allll the technically-opened files in Windows, but it's just the 'visible' user-opened ones that I'm after (whatever you can see in Task Manager's Applications tab).     I have some jQuery code which retrieves content using getJSON(). There are n JSON files, which are retrieved from the server as needed: /json-content/data0.json /json-content/data1.json /json-content/data2.json etc... Instead, I want to store all the JSON in a single file to reduce the number of HTTP requests needed to retrieve the data. What is the best way to do this? If I concatenate the JSON files together, it no longer works with getJSON(). I would prefer not to transform the JSON data ahead of time, as it is coming from a third party data source. Any suggestions?

    Sometimes while developing in Visual Studio IDE, when you use "Find in Files" dialog to find something, the search fails and you will see the following message in the "Find Results" window. "No files were found to look in. Find stopped progress." Once this message shows-up all the subsequent searches will result in the same message. Nothing fixes the problem including restarting computer except Pressing "Ctrl + ScrLk". Does anyone know what causes VisualStudio to get into this state and is there a setting to permanently prevent it from happening?

    Hello everyone :) I've got a series of filepaths that look something like this: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k LocalSystemNetworkRestricted C:\Windows\System32\svchost C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe /RunAsService "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe" /RunAsService and I need to find these paths' actual locations. So, respectively, the above would be: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe What's the best way to go about doing this?   • How come my Apache can't read my media folder, but it can load the site? (static files don't work)

    Alias /media/ /home/matt/repos/hello/media <Directory /home/matt/repos/hello/media> Options -Indexes Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> WSGIScriptAlias / /home/matt/repos/hello/wsgi/django.wsgi /media is my directory. When I go to mydomain.com/media/, it says 403 Forbidden. And, the rest of my site doesn't work because all static files are 404s. Why? The page loads. Just not the media folder. Edit: hello is my project folder. I have tried 777 all my permissions of that folder.

  • anyone doing php-fpm and APC? cache files missing in /tmp

    I have been using xcache for a long time. Recently I put together php-fpm and nginx. I see apc is installed and enabled in the configuration. I was assuming that apc will automatically opcode the files and store it somewhere. According to config it should be in /tmp/apx.xxxx but there is no such thing there. What am i missing? any clues to investigate would be of much help. Please note I am using php 5.3 fpm. thanks mates. UPDATE: i looked at apc.php it says things are fine. will just have to take its word for it.
