  • Can you selectively enable or disable 'FilterDescriptors' in silverlight 4?

    - by Simon_Weaver
In Silverlight with RIA services it is very easy to implement simple data filtering with 'FilterDescriptor' instances. However I've got a case where I have several filters and I want to enable or disable them based on other filters. It seems like a simple 'Enabled' property would make this really easy - but there is none. Is there a way to achieve this without just manually defining all the filters I need every time the relevant checkbox is checked.

  • Why does the Java compiler complain about a local variable not having been initialized here?

    - by pele
int a = 1, b; if(a > 0) b = 1; if(a <= 0) b = 2; System.out.println(b); If I run this, I receive: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem: The local variable b may not have been initialized at Broom.main(Broom.java:9) I know that the local variables are not initialized and is your duty to do this, but in this case, the first if doesn't initialize the variable?

  • Hibernate's version values in Grails app

    - by xain
I'm looking at a database dump file, and I see many records in various tables with their version number set in values other than 0 (even 94 in one case). I understand it has to do with hibernate locking strategy, but my concern is that today is Sunday, and the site has almost no visitors so is: is this normal ? Or is there a known hibernate bug or even some programming malpractice producing this ?

  • Hold a network connection although IP address change

    - by rursw1
Hi, Is it possible to hold an open TCP connection with a client, while the IP address of the client is externally changed? For example, the connection is establishes against address X, but somewhen while the connection is open, the client-side user asks for IP renew and gets another IP address. Can the connection remains alive in this case? Thanks in advance.

  • Python's cPickle deserialization from PHP?

    - by Ciantic
Hi! I have to deserialize a dictionary in PHP that was serialized using cPickle in Python. In this specific case I probably could just regexp the wanted information, but is there a better way? Any extensions for PHP that would allow me to deserialize more natively the whole dictionary? Apparently it is serialized in Python like this: import cPickle as pickle data = { 'user_id' : 5 } pickled = pickle.dumps(data) print pickled Contents of such serialization cannot be pasted easily to here, because it contains binary data.

  • Get ahold of session in command object in Grails

    - by UltraVi01
How can I get the session from within a command object? I have tried: import org.springframework.security.context.SecurityContextHolder as SCH class MyCommand { def session = RCH.currentRequestAttributes().getSession() } This throws java.lang.IllegalStateException: No thread-bound request found: Are you referring to request attributes outside of an actual web request, or processing a request outside of the originally receiving thread? If you are actually operating within a web request and still receive this message, your code is probably running outside of DispatcherServlet/DispatcherPortlet: In this case, use RequestContextListener or RequestContextFilter to expose the current request.

  • How do I make all the finders on the model ignorecase?

    - by Glex
I have a model with several attributes, among them title and artist. The case of title and artist should be ignored in all the Active Record finders. Basically, if title or artist are present in the :conditions (or dynamically i.e. find_all_by_artist), then the WHERE artist = :artist should become WHERE UPPER(artist) = UPPER(:artist) or something along these lines. Is there a way of doing it with Rails?

  • MySQL- complex data query in a single statement

    - by yoda
Hi, Consider the following structure : Ignore the table user_token. Now, imagine that you need to get all the roles related to an user, wich may be through it's related groups or directly related to him. In case the same role appears related to a group and the user directly, the role related to the user will prevail over the role given by the group. Is there any chance this could be done in a single query? Cheers!

  • how does sql count work?

    - by ria
I would like to understand how exactly does sql count work. Is it a whole table scan that happens or is it some property of the table that is read. However I feel a table scan would be an overhead in case of huge tables with lots of records.

  • Is Unit Testing worth the effort?

    - by The Talking Walnut
I am working to integrate unit testing into the development process on the team I work on and there are some skeptics. What are some good ways to convince the skeptical developers on the team of the value of Unit Testing? In my specific case we would be adding Unit Tests as we add functionality or fixed bugs. Unfortunately our code base does not lend itself to easy testing.

  • HTML Canvas and saving the data on the server

    - by snitko
Say I've written a simple app that draws circles in browser. Now I'd like to let people save their pictures. How would I store the data on the server? Which format would be the best option? Should I simply store the relevant html? What would be the case when I would want to make a custom format that is stored on the server and parsed back to html canvas when loaded?

  • Are NHibernate lists loaded on demand?

    - by André Pena
    This is a pretty simple question. When I do this: session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Product)).List(); The resulting list will load as I access it? Let's say, from 100 to 100 elements for example? Or will it load all once? In the case it's not "virtual" how can I make it so? What's the best pratice about it? Thanks;

  • Ruby proc vs lambda in initialize()

    - by Jimmy Chu
I found out this morning that proc.new works in a class initialize method, but not lambda. Concretely, I mean: class TestClass attr_reader :proc, :lambda def initialize @proc = Proc.new {puts "Hello from Proc"} @lambda = lambda {puts "Hello from lambda"} end end c = TestClass.new c.proc.call c.lambda.call In the above case, the result will be: Hello from Proc test.rb:14:in `<main>': undefined method `call' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) Why is that? Thanks!

  • Question with "extern" in C

    - by why
When programming, I would like to split one large file(which contains main function) to many small files, so there is one common case: functions in small files can modify the var from main file, so i think extern is very useful! for instance: in main.c extern int i = 100; in small.c extern int i; fprintf(stdout, "var from main file: %d\n", i); I just want to know is my understanding right?
