• How to upload web.config file using WebDAV on IIS7?

  I want to copy an ASP.NET MVC website to a remote IIS 7 server using WebDAV. I have created a site in IIS, enabled WebDAV and assigned a special application pool I have named "WebDAV Application Pool". Using a Windows 7 or Vista client I'm able to mount the remote site as a network drive. So far, so good. However, I have problems uploading web.config files to the remote site. One problem is that as soon as a web.config has been uploaded it is used to configure the WebDAV site. The web.config file in a Views folder of a MVC project effectively blocks access to that folder. To work around this problem I have configured the application pool in the applicationHost.config file: <configuration> <applicationPools> <add name="WebDAV Application Pool" autoStart="true" enableConfigurationOverride="false" /> </applicationPools> </configuration> The interesting part is the 'enableConfigurationOverride` attribute: When true, indicates that delegated settings in Web.config files will processed for applications within this application pool. When false, all settings in Web.config files will be ignored for this application pool. Doing this makes it possible to upload a web.config file to the Views folder without breaking access to the folder. However, I'm still unable to upload a web.config file to the root folder. I have the following settings in the applicationHost.config file to ensure that request filtering doesn't interfere with WebDAV: <configuration> <location path="webdav.mysite.tld"> <system.webServer> <security> <requestFiltering> <fileExtensions applyToWebDAV="false" /> <verbs applyToWebDAV="false" /> <hiddenSegments applyToWebDAV="false" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webServer> </location> </configuration> In particular hiddenSegments will normally block access to web.config but setting the applyToWebDAV attribute to false should ensure that this file isn't blocked when using WebDAV. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to copy my web.config file to the root folder of the site. Doing drag and drop in Windows Explorer to the mapped WebDAV network drive will result in the following error message: Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect. On the wire it seems that the HTTP status 400 Bad Request is returned. Is there anything I can do to configure WebDAV on IIS 7 to avoid this problem?

  I'm trying to get my FBML canvas page to automatically prompt new app users for permission to publish_stream. Following Facebook's documentation I tried using the required_permissions argument to require_login. • WAMP Apache 403 Forbidden error

  I have recently changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 and have reinstalled WAMP server on my localhost testing pc. I have copied over my backup site too and this is working correctly. I have installed tinyMCE javascript editor as well as ajaxfilemanager. Everything works except when accessing a file i get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /catalog/admin/includes/javascript/tinymce/plugins/ajaxfilemanager/ajaxfilemanager.php on this server. I can access this file/folder through Windows explorer and all other parts of my site works (php, js in other section etc). Thanks for any help!

• Cannot SSH after resetting firewall on VPS

  I'm having trouble trying to SSH to my Debian 5 VPS with blacknight. It was working fine until I did the following: Logged into 'Parallels Infrastructure Manager' - Container - Firewall - Set to 'Normal Firewall settings'. It told me there was an error with the IPTables and offered the option again with a checkbox to 'reset' firewall settings, I selected this. I can see that that the default rules are been applied ( anything from anyone on any port and allowing anything to happen).   I am trying to make a tree view be async. When the page is rendered, there is default tree items displayed. jsTree tries to reload the root anyway. I want the page to render (with jsTree init'ed) with default items rendered from browser, not the ajax call. Then we the user tries to go deeper, thats when I want to do do the ajax calls.   Hi, I'm building an application based on the Utility template from Xcode, to which I have added some more views. My application structure would be as follows: MainView (the app menu) Flip-side view (a calculator) UINavigationController Settings view viewDiDLoad: UITabBarController - Tab1 view (options) - Tab2 view (information text) I can navigate correctly from my MainView to my Flip-side view, which is also the root view of the Navigation Controller. From my Flip-side view, I push a second view of my Navigation Controller (Settings view) that is configured to show an UITabBarController, with two tabs, as soon as it loads (with viewDidLoad). If I remove the UITabBarController, I can return with no problems to my Flip-side view using "popViewController" from my Settings view. The problem comes if I load the UITabBarController in viewDiDLoad in my Settings view... the tabs work perfectly, but I'm not able to return to my Flip-side view (root view of the Navigation Controller) anymore. I CAN return if I use the Navigation Bar of the Navigation Controller, but I want to configure my own buttons and have the Navigation Bar hidden. So far I've tried the following methods: [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES]; [self.navigationController popToRootViewControllerAnimated:YES]; [self.navigationController popToViewController:FlipSideViewController animated:YES]; But they don't seem to work. The first two just do nothing (the screen remains as it was), and the third one does not recognize the "FlipsideViewController" (maybe because it's a delegate of the MainViewController?). Is there a way to check what is exactly doing the "back" button of the Navigation Bar if I activate it? Should I be using delegates? Can I call a popViewController method in my Settings view from any of the two Tab views? The theoretical problem I'm having is that you implement a specific role on a method such as: [PrincipalPermissionAttribute(SecurityAction.Demand, Role="Supervisor")] private void someMethod() {} What if at some point down the road, I don't want Supervisors to access someMethod() anymore? Wouldn't I have to change the source code to make that change? Am I missing something? It seems there has to be some way to abstract the relationship between the supervisors role and the method so I can create a way in the application to change this coupling of role permission to method. • BSOD Before Windows Will Loads - Graphics Related

  Alright deep breath here: (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw) Today I installed Star Craft 2 Beta. After trying to log in, it had some issues where it said my device stopped working (referring to my video device I have to imagine). After I force quit the game there were some random "hot" (various colors if i remember correctly) pixels on the screen. I decided to reboot and try again with similar results. I figured that maybe my display drivers could stand to be updated (I don't frequently update them as I don't often run into problems). I went out to nVidia's website and grabbed the latest drivers for Windows 7 64 bit GeForce 9 series. (I have SLi-ed 9800 GTs). Everything seemed to install fine and I performed the restart. This is when things went from bad (can't play SC2 beta ;) ) to worse (can't boot into windows!). Initially the very first splash screen - I think it's the bios splash screen - had lines of colored pixels covering it. It then displayed a screen that had lots of "(" on it. After that it showed the normal windows 7 splash screen as if it were going to load into Windows. Before getting much further, it BSODed on me. It was a 0x0000003B stop error. At nvlddmkm.sys. A little digging let verified that this was a problem with an nVidia graphics device, not a real shocker. Windows decided it would try to help me diagnose the problem, which it's only answer to was a System Restore, which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I was able to boot up fine in safe mode and was not able to roll back the driver, however I did uninstall the driver and reboot. I still had the graphical anomalies during the first two screens (same colored "."'s and weird "("'s), but there was NOT a stop error. Windows loaded up, found a default driver for the device and installed it and I restarted to let it load - and had yet another BSOD Stop error. Repeat driver uninstall, this time I reloaded the same version (I think it's possible that I was running a 32 bit version or a vista versus windows 7 version, but I don't have that information handy) of the nVidia driver from their website. Restart, same anomalies, same Stop Error. I am at a loss - At this point all I can think is that the firmware for the Video cards got fried or there's actual damage to the cards which I sincerely hope is not the case but the sooner I know the better. Any insight into what I might be able to do to troubleshoot/fix this problem would be most helpful. Attached below is a dump from DxDiag. • ASP.NET MVC: AuthorizeAttribute on default page

  The default controller in my ASP.NET MVC project is decorated with the [Authorize] attribute. When I deploy the website on my development machine and access the website, I am redirected to the login page (defined in forms loginUrl section of the Web.Config). Result: everything works as expected. When I publish the website on our production server (Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, DefaultAppPool) and access the website, the expected address shows in the address bar (/Account/LogOn?ReturnUrl=*my_expected_return_url*), but the page displays "You do not have permission to view this directory or page." instead of the login page. If I remove the [Authorize] attribute on the default controller/action, the page displays correctly. My Web.Config file: sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="30" authentication mode="Forms" forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"

  I have this code in my ASP.NET application written in C# that is trying to read the eventlog, but it returns an error. EventLog aLog = new EventLog(); aLog.Log = "Application"; aLog.MachineName = "."; // Local machine foreach (EventLogEntry entry in aLog.Entries) { if (entry.Source.Equals("tvNZB")) Label_log.Text += "<p>" + entry.Message; } One of the entries it returns is "The description for Event ID '0' in Source 'tvNZB' cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display the message, or you may not have permission to access them. The following information is part of the event:'Service started successfully.'" I only want the 'Service started successfully'. Any ideas?

I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model. • LinkDemand error on webserver when using TraceSource

  Hi, On a webserver (shared hosting provider) I published a website with a ADO.Net Framework model in use with MySql Connector 6.3.1. When I request a page, a Security Exception will be happen with this error messages: "LinkDemand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer ". This exception raised when code collect the listeners of a tracksource: public class MySqlTrace { private static TraceSource source = new TraceSource("mysql"); static MySqlTrace() { foreach (TraceListener listener in source.Listeners) // <-- Exception throw here { // ... } } } The web.config doesn't have any trace data or system.diagnostics. My question is, why will a get a LinkDemand security exception during collecting the source listeners. What can maybe be wrong in here?

• Some help needed with setting up the PERFECT workflow for web development with 2-3 guys using subver

  Hey guys! I run a small web development company along side with my brother and friend. After doing extensive research I have decided on using subversion for version control. Here is how I currently plan on running typical development. Keep in mind there are 3 of us each in a separate location. I set up an account with springloops (springloops.com) subversion hosting. Each time I work on a new project, I create a repository for it. So lets say in this case I am working on site1. I want to have 3 versions of the site on the internet: Web Development - This is the server me and the other developers publish to. (site1.dev.bythepixel.com) Client Preview - This is the server that we update every few days with a good revision for the client to see. (site1.bythepixel.com) Live Site - The site I publish to when going live (site1.com) Each web development machine (at each location) will have a local copy of xamp running virtual host to allow multiple websites to be worked on. The root of the local copy is set up to be the same as the local copy of the subversion repository. This is set up so we can make small tweaks and preview them immediately. When some work has been done, a commit is made to the repository for the site. I will have the dev site automatically be pushed (its an option in springloops). Then, whenever I feel ready to push to the client site I will do so. Now, I have a few concerns with those work flow: I am using codeigniter currently, and in the config file I generally set the root of the site. Ex. http://www.site1.com. So, it looks like each time I publish to one of the internet servers, I will have to modify the config file? Is there any way to make it so certain files are set for each server? So when I hit publish to client preview it just uploads the config file for the client preview server. I don't want the live site , the client preview site and the dev site to share the same mysql server for a variety of reasons. So does this once again mean that I have to adjust the db server info each time I push to a different site? Does this workflow make sense? If you have any suggestion please let me know. I plan for this to be the work flow I use for the next few year. I just need to put a system in place that allows for future expansion! Thanks a bunch!!
