• Hashbytes comparison in stored proceduring not matching record

  The password field in my user table (SQL Server 2008) is encrypted using HASHBYTES on insertion. I have a stored procedure with parameters for the username and plain-text password which does a SELECT using that username and the password sent through HASHBYTES, then returns the user record if it finds a match. The SP is always returning an empty recordset, but if I copy and paste just the SELECT from the SP to a new query window, it returns the matched record. There're no other statements in the SP. I'm missing something here; what is it?

• Including associations optimization in Rails

  Hey, I'm looking for help with Ruby optimization regarding loading of associations on demand. This is simplified example. I have 3 models: Post, Comment, User. References are: Post has many comments and Comment has reference to User (:author). Now when I go to the post page, I expect to see post body + all comments (and their respective authors names). This requires following 2 queries: select * from Post -- to get post data (1 row) select * from Comment inner join User -- to get comment + usernames (N rows) In the code I have: Post.find(params[:id], :include => { :comments => [:author] } But it doesn't work as expected: as I see in the back end, there're still N+1 hits (some of them are cached though). How can I optimize that?

• SQL Not Exists in this Query - is it possible

  This is my script - it simply looks for the image file associated to a person record. Now the error will display if there is NO .jpg evident when the query runs. Msg 4860, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot bulk load. The file "C:\Dev\ClientServices\Defence\RAN\Shore\Config\Photos\002054.2009469432270600.001.jpg" does not exist. Is there a way to write this query to 'IF not exists then set id_number = '002054.2009469432270427.001' - so it wil always display this photo for any records without a picture. Consider the query: SELECT * FROM reports AS r JOIN reportvalues AS rv ON rv.report_id = r.report_id JOIN metrics AS m ON m.metric_id = rv.metric_id WHERE r.report_id NOT IN( SELECT DISTINCT report_id FROM exclude_report ) In this query, exclude_report is a view constructed in a similar manner. Now what happens is the query takes an EXTREMELY long time to execute, presumably because the subquery is being executed over each and every row in the parent query. However, I am finding no feasible means of doing this any other way. Oh great SQL wizards, please advise. I really need a way of doing this all in SQL, which I will be using in SSRS.

  I need to create a script to search through just below a million files of text, code, etc. to find matches and then output all hits on a particular string pattern to a CSV file. Is there any way anyone can think of to optimize this script to make it work faster? Or ideas on how to make an entirely different, but equivalent script that just works faster? All input appreciated!

• c++ networking issue- retrnsmittion without ccongestion

  I wrote an application in c++ which send data over tcp connection to several machines.as part of the protocol I use in my application, the other side sends hearbeat messages from time to time, then I know that the connection is still alive. now, I want this application to work on 100 machines or more at the same time. but, I see that sometimes I don't get these heartbeat messages although they sent: I see in wireshark that the packet arrived, then my OS doesn't ack on this message, so there are some retransmit without any ack from my OS. if I look in the window size property - I saw that there is no issue in this part. what can be the root cause for this behavior? it is something in my code that I should change? this is my select code: int res = select(fdCount, &readFds, NULL, NULL, NULL ); I'm using server 2008 r2.   I need to run a Select statement (DB2 SQL) that does not pull adjacent row duplicates based on a certain field. In specific, I am trying to find out when data changes, which is made difficult because it might change back to its original value. That is to say, I have a table that vaguely resembles: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 12, Mar A, 12, Apr A, 9, May A, 9, Jun A, 5, Jul And I want to get the results: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 9, May A, 5, Jul discarding adjacent duplicates but keeping the last row. The obvious: Select Letter, Number, Min(Month) from Table group by Letter, Number does not work -- it doesn't include the last row.

  Hi all. Im trying to make an activity that has a multiple choice dialog after you push a button. In there you select from a list of things. But these things are received from a web method before the dialog appears. So I create a string array after I receive them inside the onCreate to initialise it there with the correct size. But my dialog method then cant get the array because propably its out of its scope. • Using NVL function in SQL, please help!

  I'm needing to select first and last name in a table which is working fine in the following SQL, but the part that isn't working is the NVL function. The file should show all pilots at a company that fly helicopters and IF they don't have a licence the field HT_NAME should come up as 'N/A' and the field for end hours flown should be 0. I've put NVL function in as my text details but it still isn't working. Have i made a syntax error? Help would be appreciated.   I have been porting oracle selects, and I have been running across a lot of queries like so: SELECT e.last_name, d.department_name FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id(+) = d.department_id; ...and: SELECT last_name, d.department_id FROM employees e, departments d WHERE e.department_id = d.department_id(+); Are there any guides/tutorials for converting all of the variants of the (+) syntax? What is that syntax even called (so I can scour google)? Even better.. Is there a tool that will do this conversion for me? When was this standard phased out? Any info is appreciated.

• SQLite problem with some parameterized queries

  I am having some trouble using SQLite and parameterized queries with a few tables. I have noticed some queries using the "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE row=?" are returning 1 row when there should be more rows returned. If I change the parameterized query to "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE row='row'" then the correct number of rows is returned. Does anyone know why sqlite3_step would return only 1 row when using a parameterized query vs. using the same query in a traditional non-parameterized way? I am using a very thin C++ wrapper around SQLite3. I suspect there could be a problem with the wrapper, but this problem only exists on a few tables. It makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the way those tables are setup. Any advice is appreciated.

  Hi, If I have a parent and child modelled relationship. How to I select the parent, and some of the child rows. I cannot seem to do it, and load the parent object. var query = ( from parent in Parents.Include("Children") from child in parent.Children where child.Date == parent.Children.Max(x => x.Date) select parent); the problem is that the parent is returned multiple times, not the parent with the children loaded. Is there any way to populate each of the parents, and include the child rows, but only the ones needed. If I try and navigate again, I get all the children, not just the ones with the latest date.
