• How can I know the IP address of a remote host by using UDP broadcast message?

  Hi All, I am developing an embedded system and very new to this TCP\IP. My problem is that once I installed my board in a local network and this board will acquire its IP address dynamically, it has to communicate with a client application running on one of the PC(other than DHCP server) in the network. To communicate with this new board the client application is required to know the IP address of the board. What is the way to know the IP address of the board? Will UDP broadcast work for this purpose? If yes please, explain in detail as I am unable to understand it. Please provide me some sample code in C if possible. Regards, Satinder

  I need to create a clients details report for a web based application in c#.Net. There will be multiple client details one by one. When take print of this web page, the first page will be the cover page and the remaining pages contains clients details. The pages except the cover page should be numbered “page x of y” in the centre of the footer. The top of each page should display the client name that is the subject of the sub-report. If part of a sub-report section spans onto a new page, the whole section should be moved to the new page. Any solution for implementing this?

  I just created a web service client using axis and eclipse that does not work with my web service provider. Perhaps a different framework that I can use to create the correct client.

• Compressing as GZip WCF requests (SOAP and REST)

  I have a .NET 3.5 web app hosted on Windows Azure that exposes several WCF endpoints (both SOAP and REST). The endpoints typically receive 100x more data than they serve (lot of data is upload, much fewer is downloaded). Hence, I am willing to take advantage from HTTP GZip compression but not from the server viewpoint, but rather from the client viewpoint, sending compressed requests (returning compressed responses would be fine, but won't bring much gain anyway). Here is the little C# snippet used on the client side to activate WCF: var binding = new BasicHttpBinding(); var address = new EndpointAddress(endPoint); _factory = new ChannelFactory<IMyApi>(binding, address); _channel = _factory.CreateChannel(); Any idea how to adjust the behavior so that compressed HTTP requests can be made?

• rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

  This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host)   Hi, I have an asp.net page with a WebMethod on it to pass JSON back to my javascript. Bellow is the web method: [WebMethod] public static string getData(Dictionary<string, string> d) { string response = "{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }"; return response; } When this is returned to the client it is formatted as follows: { \"d\": \"{ \"firstname\": \"John\", \"lastname\": \"Smith\" }\" } The problem is the double quotes wrapping everything under 'd'. Is there something I've missed in the web method or some other means of returning the data without the quotes? I don't really want to be stripping it out on the client everytime. Also I've seen other articles where this doesn't happen. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

  I have a legacy C++ "solution engine" that I have already wrapped as an in-process COM object for use by client applications that only require a single "solution engine". However I now have a client application that requires multiple "solution engines". Unfortunately the underlying legacy code has enough global data, singletons and threading horrors that given available resources it isn't possible to have multiple instances of it in-process simultaneously. What I am hoping is that some kind soul can tell me of some COM magic where with the flip of a couple of registry settings it is possible to have a separate out-of-process COM server (separate operating system process) for each instance of the COM object requested. Am I in luck?

  I'm following the tuitions on XMLHttpRequest 2 from : https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/XMLHttpRequest/Sending_and_Receiving_Binary_Data and http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/xhr2/#toc-send-arraybuffer They're great tutorials for the client side, and here is a working extract from my script: var imagebuffer = new ArrayBuffer(size); // create the readonly memory buffer var imagedata= new Uint8Array(imagebuffer); // create a view to manipulate data // do some cool stuff with imagedata var exchange=new XMLHttpRequest(); exchange.open("POST",url,true); exchange.send(arraybuffer); So far so good, and I can see from the both client and server control panels that plenty of data is being transferred. Here's my problem: how do I access the ArrayBuffer with PHP at the server? I'm used to the $_POST superglobal wanting parameters passing from a HTML form so it can be accessed as an array but I can't find any reference for how to access this binary array and stick it in my MySQL database.

• How can I convert arbitrary strings to CLS-Compliant names?

  Does anyone know of an algorithm (or external library) that I could call to convert an arbitrary string (i.e. outside my control) to be CLS compliant? I am generating a dynamic RDLC (Client Report Definition) for an ASP.Net Report Viewer control and some of the field names need to be based on strings entered by the user. Unfortunately I have little control over the entry of the field names by the client (through a 3rd party CMS). But I am quite flexible around substitutions required to create the compliant string. I have a reactive hack algorithm for now along the lines of: public static string FormatForDynamicRdlc(this string s) { //We need to change this string to be CLS compliant. return s.Replace(Environment.NewLine, string.Empty) .Replace("\t", string.Empty) .Replace(",", string.Empty) .Replace("-", "_") .Replace(" ", "_"); } But I would love something more comprehensive. • Logging into oracle db as a global user

  We are trying to shape up an old, 2 tier, Delphi based application. It originally uses database authentication, we'd like to transform the db user accounts to global users, so an OID server could perform the authentication instead of the database. The Delphi program can no longer log into the database if the account is a global user. I'm trying to understand the login protocol, so far without results. Similar thing happens with SQLDeveloper, I can't connect as a global user. SQLPlus however works with both kinds of users. We checked the information flow with Wireshark. When the dbserver asks back for a password, the SQLPlus sends it, while the SQLDeveloper doesn't send a password when attempting to connect as a global user. The client sends the application name too in the login request. Is it possible that we have to store the client app name in the LDAP itself?

  Hi, As a summer learning experiment, I'm thinking of coding up a web front end for a trading game i wrote in python, that generates share prices and random snippets of text. I am sort of struggling with how this should work on the back-end though. I'd rather have my GWT client page interact with the python share price generator, than to try and re-code it in java. I suppose i could use an sqlite db, and then use jdbc to pick up the prices, but i was wondering if there is a better way, for me to be able to poll some python script either from my client page, or from the serverside java code ?   I have a query that retrieves a large amount of data. <cfsetting requesttimeout="9999999" > <cfquery name="randomething" datasource="ds" timeout="9999999" > SELECT col1, col2 FROM table </cfquery> <cfdump var="#randomething.recordCount#" /> <!---should be about 5 million rows ---> I can successfully retrieve the data with python's cx_Oracle and using sys.getsizeof on the python list returns 22621060, so about 21 megabytes. ColdFusion does not return an error on the page, and I can't find anything in any of the logs. Why is cfdump not showing the number of rows? Additional Information The reason for doing it this way is because I have about 8000 smaller queries to run against the randomthing query. In other words when I run those 8000 queries against the database it takes hours for that process to complete. I suspect this is because I am competing with several other database users, and the database is getting bogged down. The 8000 smaller queries are getting counts of col1 over a period of col2. SELECT count(col1) as count WHERE col2 < 20121109 AND col2 > 20121108 According to Adam Cameron's suggestions. cflog is suggesting that the query isn't finishing. I tried changing the queries timeout both in the code and in the CFIDE/administrator, apparently CF9 no long respects the timeout attribute, regardless of what I tried I couldn't get the query to timeout. I also started playing around with the maxrows attribute to see if I could discern any information that way. when maxrows is set to 1300000 everything works fine when maxrows is 1400000 or greater I get this error when maxrows is 2000000 I observe my original problem Update So this isn't a limit of cfquery. By using QueryNew then looping over it to add data and I can get well past the 2 million mark without any problems. I also created a ThinClient datasource using the information in this question, I didn't observe any change in behavior. The messages on the database end are SQL*Net message from client and SQL*Net more data to client I just discovered that by using the thin client along with blockfactor1="100" I can retrieve more rows (appx. 3000000).

  hi, I am using a WebBrowser to render some HTML text. The WebBrowser is located within a rich client. I can detect the window's orientation when the rich client is launched. How do I make the text rendered within the WebBrowser to be dispayed in RTL order. I have tried body.setDir("rtl"), but it only aligned all the text in the WebBrowser to the right. It does not really reverse the content. For example, I have a photo that is displayed on the left and then a segment of text displayed on the right. After calling body.setDir("rtl"), it only aligned everything to the right in the WebBrowser, but it did not move the photo to the right, and it did not move the text to the left. Thanks a lot!

• Turning PHP page calling Zend functions procedurally into Zend Framework MVC-help!

  Hi guys, I posted much of this question, but if didn't include all the Zend stuff because I thought it'd be overkill, but now I'm thinking it's not easy to figure out an OO way of doing this without that code... So with that said, please forgive the verbose code. I'm learning how to use MVC and OO in general, and I have a website that is all in PHP but most of the pages are basic static pages. I have already converted them all to views in Zend Framework, and have the Controller and layout set. All is good there. The one remaining page I have is the main reason I did this...it in fact uses Zend library (for gData connection and pulling info from a Google Calendar and displaying it on the page. I don't know enough about this to know where to begin to refactor the code to fit in the Zend Framework MVC model.   Hello, I am runninig test's with Python Unittest. I am running tests but I want to do negative testing and I would like to test if a function throw's an exception, it passes but if no exception is thrown the test fail's.   This works under the .net framework 3.5 client. This fails under the .net framework 4.0 client. Was I doing something that was illegal under 3.5 but just happened to work, or is this a bug? • Reliable session faulting for unknown reason

  I am trying to achieve the following - one client-side proxy instance (kept open) accessed by multiple threads using a reliable session. What I have managed so far is to have either A) a reliable session with a client-side proxy which is created and disposed per call or B) what I aim for, but without a reliable session. When I enable reliable sessions on my binding however, the following behaviour is exhibited: Client-side Upon application startup everything appears to work fine until roughly 18 messages in to the WCF session. I firstly get the proxy.InnerChannel.Faulted event raised, then an exception is caught at the point where I am calling the method on the proxy. The exception is a System.TimeoutException, with message: "The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:00:59.9062512. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." The inner exception has a similar message: "The request operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout." With the method at the top of the inner stack trace being: System.ServiceModel.Channels.ReliableRequestSessionChannel.SyncRequest.WaitForReply(TimeSpan timeout) I then call proxy.Close followed by proxy.Abort (catching and ignoring exceptions). If I utilize the default settings (i.e. have simply <reliableSession/>), then calling proxy. Close results in another System.Timeout exception (although this time the allotted timeout is 00:00:00), however if I override the defaults as specified above no exception is thrown. Service-side Utilizing WCF tracing I get a System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException, with message: "The sequence has been terminated by the remote endpoint. The session has stopped waiting for a particular reply. Because of this the reliable session cannot continue. The reliable session was faulted." And a stack trace ending at: System.ServiceModel.AsyncResult.End[TAsyncResult](IAsyncResult result) When remotely attaching to the server I get the same message, which occurs when code execution steps over the return statement of my service in the service call which causes the error. The puzzling thing to me is that the service is stable and runs with options A) or B) as decribed at the beginning of my post, and occurs after a varying number of messages (around 18). The former fact points to there being nothing wrong with the code (indeed I have checked that no exceptions are thrown), and the latter just serves to confuse me and is why I modified the settings on the reliable session binding. I am quite stuck on this. Can anyone suggest why the reliable session would fault in such a way?

• .Net OutOfMemory on Server but not Desktop

  Is it possible that the .Net framework behaves differently when it comes to garbage collection / memory limitations on server environments? I am running explicitly x86 compiled apps on a 64bit server machine with 32gbs of physical ram and I am running out of memory (SystemOutOfMemoryException) even though nothing but that particular app is running and the server/all other apps utilize 520mb total.. but I cannot reproduce that behaviour on my own (client win7) machine. Now I know that the app -is- memory intensive, but why is it causing problems on the server and not on the client?
