• MyFaces Test Framework not working with JSF 2.1

  we have a lot of tests that uses Myfaces Test Framework for JSF 2.0. http://myfaces.apache.org/test/index.html Problem is we can't get it to work with JSF 2.1. Does anyone know a workaround or a way to solve this? When we run the tests we get the following error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Application was not properly initialized at startup, could not find Factory: javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory It works fine with jsf 2.0 though. A typical use case in our code: // code block; assertFalse("Error message not expected. ", facesContext .getMessages().hasNext()); JSF 2.1 has a few syntax changes so my guess would be that's the problem.

• Where to reopen a class in RoR

  I'm attempting to reopen the String class in rails and add a bunch more methods for my app to use. Writing the code isn't a problem - my question is rather about where this code should go. It doesn't make sense to me to reopen a class inside a different model file, because it really has nothing to do with any of the models specifically. I thought perhaps somewhere in config or lib would make sense, but I'm not particularly well versed with RoR yet. To summarize, where would be the most logical place to define class-modifying code?

• Compiling C Source with Makefile in Windows

  I'm trying to compile a downloaded program in Windows. The program is usually run in Linux, but is programmed to also run in Windows (the code has #if defined(_WIN32)'s in it, and claims to work with borland free tools). When I try to use make from the command line, it tells me "Incorrect command line argument: -C". In the makefile, there are many lines that say "make -C" followed by a directory name. Does this syntax not work in Windows? What is a correct way to do this? Is there any way to compile this for native use in Windows with this makefile?

• Renamed MySQL table not renamed for INSERT queries?

  After renaming one of my MySQL MyISAM tables from test_tablename to tablename, I have found that if I try to execute an INSERT (or REPLACE) query, I get the following message: 1146: Table 'dbname.test_tablename' doesn't exist I have triple-checked my database abstraction code, and verified this by running the query directly on the server. According to the MySQL server, the CREATE TABLE syntax is tablename, as expected, and when I run SHOW TABLES, it lists tablename as expected. Is there any reason for this to happen? More importantly, is there an easier way to fix this than dumping, dropping, re-creating, and reloading the table?

  I have this struct; #define BUFSIZE 10 struct shared_data { pthread_mutex_t th_mutex_queue; int count; int data_buffer_allocation[BUFSIZE]; int data_buffers[BUFSIZE][100]; }; and I want to allocate one of the data_buffers for a process, for that purpose I execute the following function; int allocate_data_buffer(int pid) { int i; for (i = 0; i < BUFSIZE; i++) { if (sdata_ptr->data_buffer_allocation[i] == NULL) { sdata_ptr->data_buffer_allocation[i] = pid; return i; } } return -1; } but the compiler warns me that I'm comparing pointer to a value. When I put a & in front of sdata_ptr it calms down but I'm not sure if it will work. Isn't what I wrote above supposed to be true?

  I want to get rid of this lot... public void info(String msg); public void info(String format, Object arg); public void info(String format, Object arg1, Object arg2); public void info(String format, Object[] argArray); ...and replace it with this one... public void info(String format, Object ... args); ...so that my logging syntax doesn't have to change depending on the number of arguments I want to log. There seems to be lots of discussion and work around it, but where is it? Or should I wrap the wrapper that is slf4j?

  Hello, Is there a way to serialize enums automatically as int? Every time I define a new enum and write std::stringstream stream; stream << myenum1; stream >> myenum2; the compiler complains that the operators << and are not defined. Do you know a way to tell the compiler to treat enums as plain int's? What makes the problem harder is that, actually, the serialization is inside a template. Something like this: template <typename T> void serialize(const T& value) { std::stringstream stream; stream << value; } So I cannot add any casts :( Maybe I can specialize it somehow? Thank you.

  I've noticed this culture surrounding Ruby where developers truly believe that they are somehow more gifted than developers of other languages, regardless of experience and talent (even when that isn't the case, I've met some extremely junior Ruby developers come up with some pretty basic constructs, and pass them off as some sort of revolutionary idea). The derision of strongly typed languages seems to be a common theme as well; regardless of its merits. Is there something particular to the Ruby syntax in general that is to account for this? Is there a socialogical component to it?

One answer was close to what I needed but the only code that ended up working for me was: WindowManager wm = (WindowManager) getView().getContext().getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE); Display screen = wm.getDefaultDisplay(); whereupon I could then use getHeight(); or another non-deprecated term. I realize this is exactly the same as the other site except this way you don't have define your context on a separate line.

• How can I get reason of page unloading in javascript's onunload event, in IE?

  There may be different reasons of page unloading: 1 User closes the current window. 2 User navigates to another location. 3 Clicks the Back, Forward, Refresh, or Home button. 4 User submits a form, and then browser starts to unload current page and load page with results of form submitting. (Assuming that the current window is the form's target). 5 and so on... Can I somehow know in onunload handler that the reason of unloading is p.4, i.e. moving to page with results of form submitting? I could define some flag when submiting form, but this does not solve the problem. Because response (on form submit) from web server takes some time, browser doesn't unload the current page immediately and waits response from server. And during this waiting user may close window or navigate anywhere. And I need to know whether was it indeed moving to results page or something else...?

  Hi Everyone, Can someone tell me why this unit test that checks for exceptions fails? Obviously my real test is checking other code but I'm using Int32.Parse to show the issue. Obviously I'm trying to test for this exception and I think I'm missing something in my syntax.   I have found Design patterns certification at the Brainbehch. I have heard from people who passed it, that there are many Language-specific patterns questions, mostly from Java and C++. I think that this certification can: force me to improve my skills on Object oriented design and design patterns; improve and structure my knowledge of the domain; give real estimate of my knowledge, which is useful issue itself The only confusion I have about this certification, is that I have to learn C++/Java language specific design patterns, while I mostly do PHP development and don't want to switch to C++/Java. I'm familiar with Java & C++ syntax, read lots of books about different subjects with code snippets in this programming languages. I think, that if I pass well all concepts except language specific patterns at certification, it won't be very good, because this concepts will gain quite low results. What would you recommend in this particular circumstance?

• Can you pass parameters for OnAction in MS Project VBA?

  The way I can define a method to be executed with OnAction in VBA with Microsoft Project is as follows (and works correctly): .OnAction = "Macro ""DoSomething""" ... where DoSomething is the method to execute. I would like to pass a parameter to that method but can't find a way to pass it with this syntax. Does anybody have an idea how to do this? I'm getting the feeling that this is an impossible task, but maybe there's some VBA secret I'm not aware of. Please note that VBA in MS Project seems to have its quirks and is slightly different than VBA for Excel or Access. This seems to be the case for the OnAction property which needs the extra Macro keyword to work correctly. If I'm wrong here please enlighten me.

  I'm trying to pass 3 parameter to a script, where the 3rd parameter $_GET['value3'] is supposed to be an array $_GET['value1'] $_GET['value2'] $_GET['value3'] //an array of items I'm calling the script like this: (notice my syntax for value3, I'm not sure it's correct) http://localhost/test.php?value1=test1&value2=test2&value3=[the, array, values] I then use a foreach to hopefully loop through the third parameter value3 which is the array //process the first input $_GET['value1'] //process the second input $_GET['value2'] //process the third input $_GET['value3'] which is the array foreach($_GET['value3'] as $arrayitem){ echo $arrayitem; } but I get the error Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I'm not sure if my methodology is correct. • IF/ELSE makes stored procedure not return a result set

  I have a stored procedure that needs to return something from one of two databases: IF @x = 1 SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 SELECT @y FROM Table_B Either SELECT alone will return what I want, but adding the IF/ELSE makes it stop returning anything. I tried: IF @x = 1 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_B But that causes a syntax error. The two options I see are both horrible: Do a UNION and make sure that only one side has any results: SELECT @y FROM Table_A WHERE @x = 1 UNION SELECT @y FROM Table_B WHERE @x = 2 Create a temporary table to store one row in, and create and delete it every time I run this procedure (lots). Neither solution is elegant, and I assume they would both be horrible for performance (unless MS SQL is smart enough not to search the tables when the WHERE class is always false). Is there anything else I can do? Is option 1 not as bad as I think?

  when I setup the wcf service on a web server, I set the end point address as <endpoint address="http://www.mydomin.com/clientname/happy.svc" binding="basicHttpBinding" name="happysvcbasic" contract="happysvc.Ihappysvc"> </endpoint> but when type in above address on a browser, I get a different host name, which is the internal server name, such as, To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax: svcutil.exe http://internalservername.domain/clientname/happy.svc?wsdl I tried to add the host/baseaddress tag, but make no difference, what I missed? thanks for help.

  hi, is there any way, to restrict hibernate not to create connection of its own(what we define in hibernate.properties or hibernate.cfg.xml), instead i can create and pass the connection to hibernate for further processing. I know how to create a connection and set the applicationContext on to it.. but the problem is that i don't know how to force hibernate to use the connection that i have created.. Please help..

• Optional URL fragment in Codeigniter?

  This is maybe a simple syntax question or possibly a best-practices question in terms of codeigniter. I should start by saying I'm not a PHP or Codeigniter person so trying to get up to speed on helping on a project. I've found the CI documentation fairly good. The one question I can't find an answer to is how to make part of a URL optional. An example the CI documentation uses is this: example.com/index.php/products/shoes/sandals/123 and then the function used to parse the URI: function shoes($sandals, $id) For my example, I'd like to be able to modify the URL as such: example.com/index.php/products/shoes/all So, if no ID is passed, it's just ignored. Can that be done? Should that be done? A second question unrelated to my problem but pertaining to the example above, why would the variable $sandals be used as in the example, the value is 'sandals'? Shouldn't that variable be something like $shoetype?

I am trying to insert data from textboxes into an Access database, where the primary key fields in tableCourse are prefix and course_number. It keeps giving me the "no value given for one or more required parameters" error. • Is a full list returned first and then filtered when using linq to sql to filter data from a databas

  This is probably a very simple question that I am working through in an MVC project. Here's an example of what I am talking about. I have an rdml file linked to a database with a table called Users that has 500,000 rows. But I only want to find the Users who were entered on 5/7/2010. So let's say I do this in my UserRepository: from u in db.GetUsers() where u.CreatedDate = "5/7/2010" select u (doing this from memory so don't kill me if my syntax is a little off, it's the concept I am looking for) Does this statement first return all 500,000 rows and then filter it or does it only bring back the filtered list?
