• Web framework able to handle many concurrent users [closed]

  Social networking sites needs to handle many concurrent users e.g. for chat functionality. What web frameworks scales well and are able to handle more than 10.000 concurrent users connected with Comet or WebSockets. The server is a Linux VPS with limited memory, e.g. 1GB-8GB. I have been looking for some Java frameworks but they consume much memory per connection. So I'm looking for other alternatives too. Are there any good frameworks that are able to handle more than 10.000 concurrent users with limited memory resources?

• High Usage of RAM by wxPython's GUI and need some advice to reduce it

  I've recently developed a GUI in wxPython for windows platform. It contains a five tabs, 4 of them are just richTextCtrl boxes and the other one has controls for uploading files, buttons, textctrls, a slider etc.. As I was new to GUI development in Python, I used wxFormBuilder to generate some of the code using a good amount of sizers. So, now the problem is that the GUI starts off with a initial memory of around 40MB which is too much for such a simple application (Or so I think) . Also, when the functions handling the functions use huge lists as the program is for debugging large data logs and identifying the problems in'em implying that I can't afford memory for GUI. So, how can I reduce that start working memory size? Is it a general issue in wxPython? And currently trying use profilers but not sure if it's going to help.

  It is now available for download. It says you need twice* as many bits as I have. Why would you need more bits to compile code? Afaik - You only need 64-bit if you want to run a system that has more than 4gigs of memory. Why would any flash game require more than 4 gigs of memory. The only system that is 64-bits and does not have 4gigs of memory that I can quickly recall is that hilarious Nintendo that came ages ago with a Motorola CPU.

• Atheros Wireless card shows up as two different models?

  Hi I've been fighting these wireless drivers for a few days and just recently i noticed that the model the Wireless controller appears in lspci is different sometimes. This is the data i have after installing Ubuntu Server 64 bit ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. After that i installed ubuntu-desktop (aptitude install ubuntu-desktop --without-recommends) restarted and not only is the wireless not working anymore, but the hardware is listed as a different card ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't detect my discrete GPU

  I recently purchased a laptop with an Nvidia GeForce 860m, and have installed Ubuntu 14.04. On my old laptop I had 12.04, which automatically filled Additional Drivers with Nvidia drivers. But on this computer, the only thing in Additional Drivers is Qualcomm. So I manually installed Nvidia, but X Server Settings doesn't seem to detect any GPU... lspci | grep VGA reports only my integrated Intel GPU, but lspci -v reports many things, including the Nvidia GPU: 01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 860M] (rev a2) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 157d Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 16 Memory at ec000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M] I/O ports at e000 [size=128] Expansion ROM at ed000000 [disabled] [size=512K] Capabilities: access denied Don't know what any of that means. Not sure if it's supposed to say 'access denied'... I need my GPU to do CUDA and OpenGL programming. What else can I do to figure out why this isn't working?

• OpenStack: How to make Cloudify use the floating IP instead of the fixed one?

  I have a problem with Cloudify (both 2.5 and 2.6-rc release). I have an All-In-One Openstack 2013.1.1 setup and I'm trying to use Cloudify to bootstrap a cirros 0.3.1 vm. My quantum configuration is: pool of fixed ip (10.0.0.0/24) for vm management; pool of floating ip (192.168.1.170-190) taken from 192.168.1.1/24 (my lan) When I deploy a vm first, an ip from 10.0.0.0/24 is given (I cannot reach it from my PCs because it is only for vm management) and then I associate a floating ip with which I can ping (and ssh) the deployed machine. The problem is when I do: bootstrap-cloud openstack because Cloudify stay forever into "attempting to access management vm 10.0.0.3" and this is due to the fact that 10.0.0.3 is not reachable. What can I do to get Cloudify take the floating ip instead of the fixed one?

• Is there a size limit when using UICollectionView as tiled map for iOS game?

  I'm working on a turn-based strategy game for iOS, (picture Civilization 2 as an example), and I'm considering using a UICollectionView as my game map. Each cell would be a tile, and I could use the "didSelectCell" method to handle player interaction with each tile. Here's my question: I know that UICollectionViewCells are dequeued and reused by the OS, so does that mean that the map could support an effectively infinitely-large map, so long as only a few cells are onscreen at a time? However many cells were onscreen would be held in memory, and obviously the data source would take up some memory, but would my offscreen map be limited to a certain size or could it be enormous so long as the number of cells visible at any one time wasn't too much for the device to handle? Basically, is there any memory weight to offscreen cells, or do only visible cells have any impact?

• PHP, when to use iterators, how to buffer results?

  When is it best to use Iterators in PHP, and how can they be implemented to best avoid loading all objects into memory simultaneously? Do any constructs exist in PHP so that we can queue up results of an operation for use with an Iterator, while again avoiding loading all objects into memory simultaneously? An example would be a curl HTTP request against a REST server In the case of an HTTP request that returns all results at once (a la curl), would we be better off to go with streaming results, and if so, are there any limitations or pitfalls to be aware of? If using streaming, is it better to replace curl with a PHP native stream/socket? My intention is to implement Iterators for a REST client, and separately a document ORM that I'm maintaining, but only if I can do so while gaining benefits from reduced memory usage, increased performance, etc. Thanks in advance for any responses :-)

• How to use unused space in ubuntu

  I installed ubuntu on my machine with only 80 GB of memory anticipating that I will remove it later but now I want to keep it forever (until I am frustrated with linux). I have 500 GB in my machine and now I want to use that raw 420 GB of space. How I can I do that ? with "space/memory" I am referring to secondary memory not Ram.   Some of our customers inform us that in some cases following error appears: System.Management.ManagementException: Blad dostawcy. at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode) at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext() The error is generated while trying to loop through a colection returned by Get() method of the System.Mamangment.ManagementObjectSearcher object. This is the code of my method: private bool PrinterExists(string printerName) { bool retVal = false; SelectQuery q = new SelectQuery("select caption from win32_printer"); using (ManagementObjectSearcher searcher = new ManagementObjectSearcher(q)) { foreach (ManagementObject printer in searcher.Get()) { if(printer["Caption"].ToString() == printerName) { retVal = true; break; } } } return retVal; } It seems that the problem appears only on Windows XP. The only workaround I know is reconstruction of WMI database. It sometimes helps, but unfortunatelly not always. Can anyone tell me what is the reason of this error and how can I fix it?

  I'm thinking of continuing my education and going for masters degree. I must decide between two programs. One is CS/IT and focuses on algorithms, math, multimedia, web technologies with optional interesting courses like AI and robotics. Second is about business process management, software architecture and project management. I have some experience in business software and I must say, I never though I need deeper understating of algorithms or program language but I always felt that I'm lacking in project planing or management knowledge. On the other side, CS/IT looks more interesting but what are the chances to find a job that require such skills?
