  • Set a session hash outside of RoR program?

    - by Sindri Guðmundsson
    Hi, I have had my new rails program up for a few days now. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.4 with apache2 in another location than the website it's made for (it's a standalone database application for physiotherapists). The people I made it for now want me to deploy it to the public part of their website, only with one change. Those who open it via the link in the public-part should not be able to click one button! I was thinking of doing something like this in my view: <% if session[:inside]%> <%=button_to 'Sækja mælitæki', @link_to_mt%> <%end%> How could I set session[:inside] only to true if the program was started from within the private part of the webpage? I thought of creating two new actions, the other would set session[:inside] to true and the other to false, but that seems to me like a security risk, is it not? BR, Sindri

  • Generating the input id with an ActiveRecord model

    - by swilliams
    How do you generate an input's id attribute, given a model? For example, if I have a model of Person with a first_name attribute, the form helper prints out a textbox with this html: <input type="text" id="person_first_name" /> How can I generate that person_first_name from some other place in the code (like in a controller or some place)?

  • Multi-model form problem

    - by raphael_turtle
    (I'm just learning rails so....) I have a photo model and a gallery model, habtm associations and a join table. I'm making a photo gallery. The gallery page has a title field and description field. User creates gallery title, then goes to the photo page and checkboxes each image they want in that gallery. I get the error "undefined method `to_i' for ["1", {"title"="1"}]:Array" when trying to save/update a photo with a gallery title(with the checkbox) <% form_for @photo, :html => {:multipart => true } do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> <%= f.label :title %> <%= f.text_field :title %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :description %> <%= f.text_area :description %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :image %> <%= f.file_field :image %> </p> <% for gallery in @photo.galleries %> <% fields_for "painting[gallery_attributes][]", gallery do |g| %> <div> <%= g.check_box :title %> <%= gallery.title %> </div> <% end %> <% end %> <p><%= submit_tag 'Update' %></p> <% end %> How much of this is horribly wrong? Can someone point me in the right direction?, I can't find any tutorials relating to this for 2.3 and above.

  • JQuery + Rails + Select Menu

    - by blackpond
    I want to have a select menu to change a field on a Customer dynamically, I've never used Jquery with a select menu, and I'm having problems. The code: <% form_for @customer , :url = { :action = "update" }, :html ={:class = "ajax_form"} do |f| % Pricing: <%= select :customer, :pricing, Customer::PRICING, {}, :onchange = "$('this').closest('form').submit();" % Application.js: $(document).ready(function(){ $(".ajax_link").live("click",function(event){ //take div class = ajax_link and call this funciton when clicked. event.preventDefault(); // cancels http request $.post($(this).attr("href"), null, null, "script"); return false; }); ajaxFormSubmitHooks(); }); function ajaxFormSubmitHooks(){ $(".ajax_form").submit(function(event){ event.preventDefault(); // cancels http request $.post($(this).attr("action"), $(this).serializeArray(), null, "script"); return false; }); }

  • MIgrations and Rspec

    - by pablorc
    Hi, I'm developing a Rails application with Rspec for unit testing. Weeks ago, Rspec used to migrate the database to the last version automatically when executing 'rake spec', but now it doesn't do it automatically, I have to implement everything for myself. This happens in test environment, because my development data doesn't desappear. Is my fault? I didn't change anything, I think :) Thanks in advance.

  • [Rails] Accessing error_messages on form_tag

    - by aaronrussell
    I have built a custom form for creating a joining model on a has_many :through relationship. The models look roughly like this: class Team has_many :team_members has_many :members, :through => :team_members end class Member has_many :team_members has_many :teams, :through => :team_members end class TeamMember belongs_to :team belongs_to :member # and this model has some validations too end The form I have built is for selecting which members should be in a team. I won't paste the form, but it uses the form_tag method and basically sends an array of hashes which contain a member_id and a squad_number. I then update the database with an action that looks roughly like this (simplified a bit, but you get the jist): @team.transaction do @team.team_members = params[:team_members].collect{|tm| @team.team_members.new(tm)} if @team.save redirect_to ... else render :action => :members end end Everything works great but I am validating the squad_number for uniqueness and numerically. So, when any of those validations fail, how do I get access to them in my view, and how do I ascertain which of the many members it has failed on?

  • Rails3 - will_paginate plugin strange output

    - by Sam
    I have the will_paginate plugin working in an application, but when I paginate a resource it just spits out the HTML as text, doesn't provide links to the next pages and such. And when I manually type in the URL the plugin is working it just doesn't make <%= will_paginate @products %> into links such as next 1 2 3 ... last Ideas?

  • Rails Routes Mappings

    - by rdasxy
    I'm a rails newbie, and I have a controller called resource_links that I've mapped to resources: resources :resources, :as => :resource_links, :controller => :resource_links And this works (basically /resources works as /resource_links). However, trying to go to /resources/tags does not work. To get around this, I added more mappings as: match 'resource_links/tag/:tag(.:format)' => 'resource_links#tag', :via => :get, :as => 'resource_links_tagged', :constraints => {:tag => /.*/} match 'resource_links/tags' => 'resource_links#tags', :via => :get, :as => 'resource_links_tags' Is there any way I can get /resources/tags to be mapped to /resource_links/tag?

  • dependent: :destroy is not deleting dependencies from views

    - by jxdx
    Projects have many rooms. When I delete a project from the view, the associated rooms are not deleted. Rooms also have many products which should also be deleted when a project is deleted. Project class class Project < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :rooms, dependent: :destroy has_many :products, through: :rooms end Projects Controller class ProjectsController < ApplicationController def destroy @project = current_user.projects.find(params[:id]) if @project.delete redirect_to user_projects_path(@project.user) end end end Rooms Controller class RoomsController < ApplicationController def destroy @room = Room.find(params[:id]) if @room.delete redirect_to root_path end end The delete link in the projects show view. = link_to "Delete", project_room_path(room.project, room), method: :delete, data: { confirm: "Are you sure?" }, title: room.title, class: "btn btn-danger"

  • Skipping authorization for certain methods

    - by mathee
    Per the Agile Development book, I have an Admin MVC that controls how users log in. In ApplicationController, I have a before_filter that checks for authorization. So, this will check that the user has logged in for every page. The problem is that I want everyone to be able to access the new method, for example, in Users (that is, anyone should be able to create a new user -- naturally! Only admin users should have access to the other methods in UsersController such as edit, etc.). What's the best way to do that?

  • Rails: What's the suggested approach to retrieve xml from an outside source

    - by Syrahn
    Rails newbie (though long time programmer) here. I'm writing an test app that retrieves data from several outside sources (think Twitter, RSS feeds, etc.) and under certain circumstances, it stores that data in a db (or presents it to the user). The data model and the views are trivial. What I'm having difficulty with is making the actual xml HTTP call to the outside source and deserialize the xml response so I can query/use it in my controller/helper. What library/gem should I use to accomplish this? I tried looking this up around the net, but only came up with some article from 2006 which, knowing how fast Rails has developed, might well be completely deprecated. Your help is much appreciated.

  • How can I have a single helper work on different models passed to it?

    - by Angela
    I am probably going to need to refactor in two steps since I'm still developing the project and learning the use-cases as I go along since it is to scratch my own itch. I have three models: Letters, Calls, Emails. They have some similarilty, but I anticipate they also will have some different attributes as you can tell from their description. Ideally I could refactor them as Events, with a type as Letters, Calls, Emails, but didn't know how to extend subclasses. My immediate need is this: I have a helper which checks on the status of whether an email (for example) was sent to a specific contact: def show_email_status(contact, email) @contact_email = ContactEmail.find(:first, :conditions => {:contact_id => contact.id, :email_id => email.id }) if ! @contact_email.nil? return @contact_email.status end end I realized that I, of course, want to know the status for whether a call was made to a contact as well, so I wrote: def show_call_status(contact, call) @contact_call = ContactCall.find(:first, :conditions => {:contact_id => contact.id, :call_id => call.id }) if ! @contact_call.nil? return @contact_call.status end end I would love to be able to just have a single helper show_status where I can say show_status(contact,call) or show_status(contact,email) and it would know whether to look for the object @contact_call or @contact_email. Yes, it would be easier if it were just @contact_event, but I want to do a small refactoring while I get the program up and running, and this would make the ability to do a history for a given contact much easier. Thanks!

  • rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

    - by user1306769
    i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

  • Changing a select input to a checkbox acting as an on/off toggle switch in Rails

    - by Ribena
    I have a set of 7 dropdown inputs allowing admins to say whether they are open or closed for business on a given day. I'd like that changed to 7 open/closed switches (presumably styled checkboxes?) but can't figure out how to do this! Here are the relevant bits of code I currently have (prior to any change): app/view/backend/inventory_pool/edit.html.haml - content_for :title, @inventory_pool = form_for [:backend, @inventory_pool], html: {name: "form"} do |f| .content - if is_admin? %a.button{:href => root_path}= _("Cancel") %button.button{:type => :submit}= _("Save %s") % _("Inventory Pool") %section %h2= _("Basic Information") .inner .field.text .key %h3= "#{_("Print Contracts")}" %p.description .value .input %input{type: "checkbox", name: "inventory_pool[print_contracts]", checked: @inventory_pool.print_contracts} %section#workdays %h2= _("Workdays") .inner - [1,2,3,4,5,6,0].each do |i| .field.text .key %h3= "#{I18n.t('date.day_names')[i]}" .value .input %select{:name => "store[workday_attributes][workdays][]"} %option{:label => _("Open"), :value => Workday::WORKDAYS[i]}= _("Open") %option{:label => _("Closed"), :value => "", :selected => @store.workday.closed_days.include?(i) ? true : nil}= _("Closed") app/models/workday.rb class Workday < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :inventory_pool WORKDAYS = ["sunday", "monday", "tuesday", "wednesday", "thursday", "friday", "saturday"] def is_open_on?(date) return false if date.nil? case date.wday when 1 return monday when 2 return tuesday when 3 return wednesday when 4 return thursday when 5 return friday when 6 return saturday when 0 return sunday else return false #Should not be reached end end def closed_days days = [] days << 0 unless sunday days << 1 unless monday days << 2 unless tuesday days << 3 unless wednesday days << 4 unless thursday days << 5 unless friday days << 6 unless saturday days end def workdays=(wdays) WORKDAYS.each {|workday| write_attribute(workday, wdays.include?(workday) ? true : false)} end end And in app/controllers/backend/inventory_pools_controller I have this (abridged): def update @inventory_pool ||= InventoryPool.find(params[:id]) process_params params[:inventory_pool] end def process_params ip ip[:print_contracts] ||= "false" # unchecked checkboxes are *not* being sent ip[:workday_attributes][:workdays].delete "" if ip[:workday_attributes] end

  • rails eval code

    - by xpepermint
    Hey. I have to do a coll inside my model like this: import = Import.find(id) status = User.find(import.user_id).{XXX}.import(import.file.path) Notice a {XXX} which should be replaced by a dinamic variable of a submodel. Model User has_many groups, clients and products. In translation this would be status = User.find(import.user_id).groups.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).clients.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).products.import(import.file.path) I was thinking of import = Import.find(id) status = eval("User.find(#{import.user_id}).#{import.model}").import(import.file.path) but this gives me an error 'TypeError: can't convert nil into String'. Please tell me how would you fix that. Thx!

  • In rails whats the best way to get the site that a user came from? I am getting conflicting info.

    - by kidbrax
    If i enter a url directly into the address bar of the browser, i get the following results: logger.debug ENV['HTTP_REFERER'] // => logger.debug request.referrer // => / So the first one gives me a blank result which is what I expected but the second gives me the root? Is this correct? It seems from the docs (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/AbstractRequest.html#M000478) that they should return the same thing. And secondly, why does it return the root, if there was no referrer.

  • Finding records when using has_many through associations

    - by winter sun
    I have two models, Worker and Project, and they are connected with has_many through association. I manage to find all the projects which are related to a specific worker by writing the following code: worker=Worker.find_by_id("some_id") worker.projects but I want the projects that I get to be only active projects (in the project model I have a status field) I tried to do something like worker.projects(:status_id=>'active') but it didn’t work for me. Can somebody tell me how I can do this?
