  Hello I would like to start developing a lifeRay theme and am a little bit lost! I am a Mac user and i have installed liferay and also Xcode but i am not clear how to begin. I have downloaded the SDK for liferay but i do not understand how to install it or use it for that matter, so questions: Is Xcode an appropriate development environment to work with or is something else a little easier to get on with? Does Xcode build in the same way ANT does? How do i install the SDK? Do i just drop it into Tomcat and away i go? Yes i am very new to all this!!   i have to write a program that sniffs network packets (part1-the simple part). and i have to update the program (part2) so that it will be able to terminate connections. the specific requirements are: construct raw packets by specifying data link layer and network layer information including appropriate source and destination MAC and IP addresses. These packets are intended to terminate the connection. To do so, you should used SOCK_RAW as the socket type to be able to set the header information by yourself. can anybody give me some ideas on the second part? should i hijack the session,apply a dos attack on one of the users?? all i need is some tips of how to terminate the connection. i am using c programming language. and this is a course assignment for the security course.

• Real time video stream from camera via server to Iphone

  Hi I want to create an Iphone app that can display real time video from a camera. The intended setup is. Camera connected to Mac Mini delivering real time video to Iphone over local network. The Iphone doesn't need to display high quality or use a high frame rate, but it has to be real time. Max 1 sec delay. I've been searching a lot for a solution, but so far I have not found a resonable one. HTTP Live Stream is not a solution due to the delay. Any suggestions?

  I am creating a Cocoa Application for Mac OS 10.6 , and I want to hide the toolbar of an NSWindow automatically when it is not in use for at least 30 seconds. I think this can be done with NSTimers, but I'm not familiar with them and I don't know how I can implement this. Another problem is that both the NSToolbarDelegate and NSWindowDelegate protocols don't have delegate methods like toolbarDidShow: Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. PS. This is not to punish the user, but rather give the user a cleaner window (the window consist of only a toolbar for color and font and a text-view). PPS. Can the hide-toolbar-animation lead into a problem with the cursor while the user is typing?

• xcodeproj merge fails when adding new group

  I'm currently using Xcode with Git, and I'm experiencing some troubles during the merge process of my xcodeproj. Developer1 create a new group in Xcode file arborescence the commit and push. Developer2 on an other computer do the same with an other group name, commit and pull(with merge). The xcodeproj of Developer 2 become unreadable with Xcode. But when I create a new file or just drag and drop files from finder to repository, the merge succeed. Did someone has experienced that kind of trouble? • Using a proxy for NSURLConnection

  Is there any way to get the content of a webfile (namely a .html Document) using a proxy, which is not defined in the system settings? I know that NSURLConnection is the right way to download a web file into a variable and not into a file (for which we should use NSURLDownload), but I don't find a way to use a proxy for it. Are there some unofficial APIs, Libraries or Classes or such I could use for what I want to do? I'm not that pro in Mac Programming, so I'm searching for something more or less simple. SideSwipe

  Hi, How do I install the app that I'm making on an actual device? I'm on Mac Snow Leopard with a Nexus One phone and I've followed the steps here http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-TW/guide/developing/device.html So I added: 1. android:debuggable="true" 2. Turn on "USB Debugging" on your device. However, when I go to the terminal and do "adb devices" only the emulator shows up there. I'm supposed to see my device name too right? What am I missing? • xvfb on a machine with a display, can an application run 'in the background?'

  I'm setting up to cron a web scraping job, using xvfb, firefox, and watir on my Mac OS X. In testing the script so far, firefox pops up visibly on the local desktop, the watir script executes, and then firefox exits (I quit firefox in my script). I'd like to set the xvfb DISPLAY such that firefox will run, but won't be seen on the local desktop, running 'in the background' so to speak. Nothing I've been able to find online discusses such a possibility - nor explains that it's not possible. Is it possible? If so, what do I need to do to make it work?

• CodeIgniter: Weird echo of $config coming back when I load Email Library

  Version info: CI version 1.7.2 - PHP 5.3.1 - Apache2 - Mac OSX 10.6.3 For some reason, when I load CI's email library, either in my controller, or in autoload.php, it automatically and immediately echoes the config info like so: $config['protocol'] = 'sendmail'; $config['mailpath'] = '/usr/sbin/sendmail'; $config['charset'] = 'iso-8859-1'; $config['wordwrap'] = TRUE If I autoload the email library in autoload.php, it is echoed before anything else in my source/page. If I call it explicitly within my controller, it's echoed at that exact point. I'm stumped, never seen that before. Any ideas on how to surpress/eliminate?

• How to configure a OCUnit test bundle for a framework?

  I've been developing a Mac OS X framework and I want to use OCUnit in my XCode 3.2.1 project. I've followed several tutorials on how to configure a OCUnit test bundle. The problem is that when I create a test case that uses a function that is defined in one of the framework's sources, I get a building error telling me that the symbol is not found. I made the test bundle dependent of my project's target as the tutorial said, but that doesn't seem to be problem. First I thought that I could solve this problem by dragging the framework's source files into the compile sources section within the Test bundle target, but then all the symbols referenced from that source file started to show up in the build errors, so that seems to not be a good solution/idea. How can I configure my unit test bundle so it builds properly?

  I am processing a file full of unix time strings. I want to convert them all to human readable. The file looks like so: 1153335401 1153448586 1153476729 1153494310 1153603662 1153640211 Here is the script: #! /bin/bash FILE="test.txt" cat $FILE | while read line; do perl -e 'print scalar(gmtime($line)), "\n"' done This is not working. The output I get is Thu Jan 1 00:00:00 1970 for every line. I think the line breaks are being picked up and that is why it is not working. Any ideas? I'm using Mac OSX is that makes any difference.

  I am an old school java developer who is considering a using wordpress. I'm used to developing locally on my PC (yeah yeah not even a mac) and then ftping my files up to a production environment on a remote server. My high level review of wordpress gives me the impression that typically there is no concept of lower environments and that all updates occur directly in production. Is this the case? • Java not working on MacOS X Leopard

  I'm running Leopard, xcode 3.1.3. When I type "java" at the command line I get this: dyld: could not load inserted library: /usr/lib/libSaturnFE.dylib Trace/BPT trap What did I do? I did do some profiling with Saturn a while back but I didn't know it was going to screw up my machine. I'm fairly sure it worked when I first installed xcode. I guess I could install a different Java SDK than the one that came with Xcode? I can't find an upgrade path for Xcode that doesn't require me to upgrade to Snow Leopard. I just don't feel like upgrading to Snow Leopard right now because I don't have good disk backups in place. edit: at least if anybody could point me to a resource or even a Mac forum where I could ask this question it would be really helpful.

• Usability: Save changes using "Apply" button or after every single change?

  I am interested in hearing opinions and experiences of fellow developers on topic of designing user interface, usability AND maintainability-wise. Common approach is to allow users to tweak options and after form gets "dirty", enable "Apply" button, and user has possibility to back out by pressing cancel. This is most common approach on Windows platform (I believe MS usability guidelines say to do so as well). Another way is to apply changes after every single change has been made to options. Example, user checks some checkbox, and change is applied. User changes value of some text box, and change is applied after box looses focus, etc. You get the point. This approach is most common on Mac OSX. Regardless of my personal opinion (which is that Apple is better at usability, but software I usually write targets Windows users), what do you people think?

• Force Python to be 32 bit on OS X Lion

  I'm trying to use CPLEX within Python on Mac OS 10.7.5. CPLEX appears to only support a 32 bit python. I'm using this in a python shell to check if it's 32 bit: import sys,platform; print platform.architecture()[0], sys.maxsize > 2**32 I've tried these 2 commands as suggested in man 1 python, but neither seem to force 32 bit: export VERSIONER_PYTHON_PREFER_32_BIT=yes defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Prefer-32-Bit -bool yes The only thing that seems to work is this: arch -i386 python However, if I run a script using arch which calls other scripts, they all seem to start up in 64 bit mode. Is there another system wide variable to force it into 32 bit mode?

  I have an app that I want to interact with a web page. Basically I want to press a button and the web page will open in a new view... Sorry I wasn't clear, I am developing on a Mac for an iPhone. Currently I have a "locate me" app that displays your Latitude and Longitude. I want to use those variables to populate 2 of the blanks on a PHP web page/form I have developed. I have added a label and button to my current app, when the button is pressed the URL with the Lat and Long (as passed vars) are displayed in the label. I want those vars to appear on my web page. • Error on installing xdebug via MacPorts

  I'm trying to share a repository between my Mac (laptop) and PC (desktop). There are some external dependencies for the project that are stored on different places on each machine, and noted in the .classpath file in the Eclipse project. When the project changes are shared, the dependencies break. I'm trying to figure out how to keep this from happening. I've tried using .hgignore with the following settings, among others, without success: syntax: glob *.classpath Based on this question, it appears that the .hgignore file will not allow Mercurial to ignore files that are also committed to the repository. Is there another way around this? Other ways to configure the project to make it work?

  Hello! Not a programmer, I begin with xml, html forms and xslt on Mac. I plan to use a form to post short texts in a xhtml page and invite end users to add some annotations to the said text. The users would select a specific part of the text posted and each annotation would stand for one specific chain of characters. My goal is to consolidate the tags obtained from various user's annotations to one xml "knowledge base" containing the original text with all the revision indicators. Then I plan to use xslt sheets to product various reports based on the tags obtained. my two questions are : 1- am I dreaming ? Is it really possible to do that with xml, xforms, xslt without using java, php, ajax or other seasoned programmer's tools ? 2- What should be my focus for further explorations aiming in that direction ?   "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Hi, I am trying to load a php page on apache , but none of the static content gets loaded. Using firebug I captured the static url and tried it separately, when I received "The connection was reset" message. The site works other computers mac, windows, linux but no on mine. I have deleted the cache, disabled firewall, changed my dns service and followed every possible suggestion on the web. I have no clue on why this is happening. • Build Google App Engine Java source from Eclipse

  I would like to try to build Google App Engine for Java from source. I have tried this: I don't know how to solve the javac Ant task. I am on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The reason why I am trying to to create a Java Project from the source is that when I try to debug/step-into the sources downloaded from SVN, something is wrong in Eclipse and it does not track execution at the right code line. It seems to be executing "comment lines"? So I don't get an accurate tracking of the code path.   I'm trying to use Poco C++ library to do the simple http requests in C++ on Mac OS X 10.8.2. • wxPython TreeCtrl without showing root while still showing arrows

  I am making a python tree visualizer using wxPython. It would be used like so: show_tree([ 'A node with no children', ('A node with children', 'A child node', ('A child node with children', 'Another child')) ]) It worked fine but it shows a root with a value of "Tree". I made it so that it would create multiple roots but then learned that I wasn't allowed to do that. I reverted to the original code but used changed it from this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self) to this: self.tree = wx.TreeCtrl(self, style=wx.TR_HIDE_ROOT). It worked but it didn't show the little arrows on the side so you wouldn't know which nodes had children. Is there any way to hide the root node but keep the arrows. Note: I am on a Mac using Python version 2.5 and wxPython version 2.8.4.0.

• How do I set up a test duplicate of a Django and Postgresql based web application?

  Not sure if this is an excessively broad and newbie-ish question for Stack Overflow but here goes: I paid someone else to build a web application for me and now I want to tweak certain aspects of it myself. I learn best by trial and error – changing stuff and seeing what happens. Obviously that's not a great way to treat a live site, so I need to duplicate the site on some kind of test server which I can play with without fear of the consequences. Unfortunately the closest I've come to programming has been creating ActionScript-based websites. I've never touched a database. So I really don't know where to start with setting up a test server. I would really appreciate any advice about where to start. I am completely ignorant and lost here. The web application is built in python/django using a Postgresql database. I use Mac OS X 10.6 if that makes any difference.
