Which most surprisingly 'made a MOO' ! .....Does anyone know any more such funnier outcomes of command line etc ?     Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but it is a hybrid serverfault/stackoverflow question. I've been directed to take a look at Solarwinds, which is an excellent network monitoring solution, for an internal project. Basically we want to write our own panel to display information custom to our network infrastructure. Has anyone done anything like this, or know if there is a plugin SDK giving developer access?   • Terminal Services - what does this message mean ?

    Hi - I'm responsible for a W2003 server. I'm trying to switch on terminal services. When I do so I get a message that includes the text : "If you continue with this installation, programs that are already installed on your server will no longer work and will have to be reinstalled" Surely that doesn't mean what it appears to mean ? I just want one extra person to be able to access the machine in the same way that currently two administrators do (via "Remote Administration") only I want all three to be able to do simultaneously. When I bought the extra TS license I thought I was just buying the right to have one extra user. Is doing this really going to trash everything on the machine ?

  • Clickonce applications being allowed through firewall

    The company I work for uses an application that is deployed through clickonce. This means that everytime they update said program the program regenerates in a new location ie: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\89XCT43D.10T\WBZ8WE7L.927\trm8..tion_1ad39bb503bcb5df_0008.0005_14829906c9aa8611\%appname%.exe Recently the computers were updated to windows 7 machines and now everytime an update is pushed out the windows firewall see this as a new application and prompts the users to allow the program through the firewall. THis means I have to walk around to every computer and type in admin credentials. Does anyone know of a way to allow the application regardless of the path it is in? Google has not been very helpful so far.

  • Mac Text Editor (with function list)

    So I've got a Mac in the post coming to me, and will probably be doing quite a bit of development on it so I am looking for a text editor (PHP + HTML mainly). I curently use Notepad++ on Windows and I simply cannot live without the function list plugin (It displays all functions in the current PHP file in a box on the right). Do any Mac text editors have this functionality? I am fairly sure that Notepad++ isn't available on an Apple. Thanks!

    Will this increase my Virtual private Server failing rate if i :- install Microsoft Window Server 2008 Enterprise install SQL server enterprise 2008 install IIS 7.5 install ASP.Net Mvc 2 install Microsoft Exchange << should live inside MWS2008 ? or standalone without OS? install Team foundation server << should live inside MWS2008 ? or standalone without OS? on one mini VPS with specification of DELL Poweredge R710 shared plan DDR3 ECC RAMs 16GB and -- 1GB for this VPS using DELL PERC 6i raid controller (this thing alone about 1.5k-2k) and the SAS HDD (15K RPM) (146GB) -- 33GB to this VPS each hdd is freaking fast over 300MB read / write possible with proper tuning the motherboard is a DELL and it has twin redundant PSU (870watt 85%eff) its running on Intel Xeon 5502 (Quad Core) x2 so about 8 physical proc (fairly share) is there any ruler to measure for this about one VPS can only install what what what service ? because of my resource is limited =.@ may i know if it is install in this way,maybe it seem like defeat the way of "VPS"... what will happen ? or any guideline on this issue (fully configuring the window server 2008 R2) ?   • What is the best/easiest way to use scripts to analyze network traffic?

    I'm looking to analyze packets via scripts. I'd like to use something high level. I'm in a mac/linux environment. I'm currently looking at different python+libpcap libraries. Perhaps lua+wireshark too. Maybe tcpdump+bash (but not sure that has a lot of info i can use). I also heard good things about scapy. Not sure. I'm wondering if you have any recommendations? There's quite a few of them out there. What have you found that works best? I'd definitely want something scriptable not something that I need to compile (like c/c++, etc)

    I have been following the directions here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/05ccd778-b78c-4a83-a10a-c4ae412cc6e4 And ran into a problem where my System DSN is not showing up as a ODBC provider. I found this which seemed promising: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000277 I was not able to delete the key but followed but I did what was suggested: "If unable to delete the key, double-click the key and erase the Data value entered. Once done, the value should read ' (value not set) '" However, after following the instructions my System DSN still does not appear as an option. The USER DSN however does show...has shown but does not work as I get a permissions error. Any ideas?

    Basically, I'm trying to find out which of the following files come packaged with the Windows 8 RTM (that is, the final version). Just to be clear, we're not wanting to know if any of the runtime files (listed below) are or were included with any of the previous versions (Beta, CTP, RS etc) or releases of Windows 8 - we are just interested in this compatibility question as far as Windows 8 RTM (Final Version) is concerned. In addition, if possible, we would also like to know which of the below files (if any) come shipped and registered with the Windows 8 RT (on ARM) version. As far as the ARM version is concerned, you're welcome to base your answer on the latest version of Windows 8 RT (on ARM) that is available at the date and time your answer is posted. (This will also serve to future-proof this question as additional releases or versions of Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT on ARM come out).   • Corrupted version of WordPad

    Somehow in trying to cleanup my computer's hard drive, I have inadvertently corrupted WordPad, which I have long used for viewing many types of files, including logs (i.e., log4j). Now when I right click one of these files and choose "open with" & WordPad, I get an error (fn is not a valid Win32 application). I've researched this issue, tried reinstalling wordpad.exe; bbut I still get the same error. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • World Wide Publishing Service very slow to restart on IIS? Why?

    Every now and then, we look to restart our IIS server by restarting the "WWW Publishing Service". On most systems this would usually only take a minute or two, but this can often take up to 10 minutes to stop the server and restart. Does anyone know any way to work out what is taking so much time to stop the service? After reading up around the net I've learned this may be due to locked resources used by users and/or lower-level IIS cached items being recycled. But I cant seem to work out where I can validate if this is true on not. Also if anyone knows how to fix or speed this up, that would be excellent. We have a large codebase which contains over 280 aspx pages across the site. Our main domain contains about 100 aspx pages whilst the subdomains contain 15 or 20 each. Some specs: Code is written in C#; runs on .Net framework 2.0 Server Windows Web Server 2008 IIS7; DB running SQL Server 2008 Standard

What's the best way to notify our users of an event on the network? Some users are on our intranet, while others log in from the Web.
