Python script won't write data when ran from cron

When I run a python script in a terminal it runs as expected; downloads file and saves it in the desired spot. sudo python script.py I've added the python script to the root crontab, but then it runs as it is supposed to except it does not write the file. $ sudo crontab -l > * * * * * python /home/test/script.py >> /var/log/test.log 2>&1 Below is a simplified script that still has the problem: #!/usr/bin/python scheduleUrl = 'http://test.com/schedule.xml' schedule = '/var/test/schedule.xml' # Download url and save as filename def wget(url, filename): import urllib2 try: response = urllib2.urlopen(url) except Exception: import traceback logging.exception('generic exception: ' + traceback.format_exc()) else: print('writing:'+filename+';') output = open(filename,'wb') output.write(response.read()) output.close() # Download the schedule wget(scheduleUrl, schedule) I do get the message "writing:name of file;" inside the log, to which the cron entry outputs. But the actual file is nowhere to be found... The dir /var/test is chmodded to 777 and using whatever user, I am allowed to add and change files as I please.

I have a VLC playlist (.xspf) of over a 100 songs all scattered all over my computer. I'm looking for a way to save this playlist and all it's songs to another folder - flash drive, external drive or just a different location in my computer. How can I do this? Async ignored on AJAX requests on Nginx server

Despite sending an async request to the server over AJAX, the server will not respond until the previous unrelated request has finished. The following code is only broken in this way on Nginx, but runs perfectly on Apache. Ignoring GET parameters in Varnish VCL

Okay: I've got a site set up which has some APIs we expose to developers, which are in the format /api/item.xml?type_ids=34,35,37&region_ids=1000002,1000003&key=SOMERANDOMALPHANUM In this URI, type_ids is always set, region_ids and key are optional. The important thing to note is that the key variable does not affect the content of the response. It is used for internal tracking of requests so we can identify people who make slow or otherwise unwanted requests. In Varnish, we have a VCL like this: if (req.http.host ~ "the-site-in-question.com") { if (req.url ~ "^/api/.+\.xml") { unset req.http.cookie; } } We just strip cookies out and let the backend do the rest as far as times are concerned (this is a hackaround since Rails/authlogic sends session cookies with API responses). At present though, any distinct developers are basically hitting different caches since &key=SOMEALPHANUM is considered as part of the Varnish hash for storage. This is obviously not a great solution and I'm trying to work out how to tell Varnish to ignore that part of the URI.

Send files ending in .mp4 in Apache with HTTP 206 Partial Content

I am using Apache as web server and the return code is always HTTP/1.1 200. I want to set some kind of handler or use a mod to return HTTP/1.1 206 when the extension of the file requested is .mp4 so it can do video seeking, my web server is already returning some headers to do seeking, but it doesn't work. Is this possible? Location of truetype fonts

I would like to create a small script that installs a few truetype fonts on the user's system. On my Ubuntu machine the truetype fonts are located at /usr/share/fonts/truetype. However, I'm not sure if this location is the same on all machines. Is there a way to find out where truetypes fonts are stored on any Linux system? Update After some research I found that the path usr/share/fonts/truetype is specified in the XML file /etc/fonts/fonts.conf. It's an XML file, so I can use XPath to get the dir: xpath -q -e 'fontconfig/dir[1]/text()[1]' /etc/fonts/fonts.conf I don't know however if this file will exist on all (or most) Linux systems.

IIS7 Compression Configuration

Hi, Previously when I used IIS6, I used IIS6 Metabase Explorer to edit Metabase.xml and manually turned on compression, specified the compression level and the file extensions to compress. IIS7 seems a bit different, there is no Metabase.xml file in the system32\inetsrv folder. Enabling compression is easy to turn on by checking the checkbox in the Compression module. But how do I manually tweak and set the compression levels and file extensions to compress? I also ran across an article saying that IIS7 also automatically throttles the compression if your CPU load is 50% then compression is turned off. Where are all these settings located?

Tale of an Encrypted SSIS Package in msdb and a Lost Password

Yesterday a Developer at work asked for a copy of an SSIS package in Production so he could work on it (please, dear Reader – withhold judgment on Source Control – I know!). I logged on to the SSIS instance, and when I went to export the package… Oops. I didn’t have that password. The DBA who uploaded the package to Production is long gone; my fellow DBA had no idea either - and the Devs returned a cricket sound when queried. So I posed the obligatory question on #SQLHelp and a bunch of folks jumped in – some to help and some to make fun of me (thanks, @SQLSoldier @crummel4 @maryarcia and @sqljoe). I tried their suggestions to no avail…even ran some queries to see if I could figure out how to extract the package XML from the system tables in msdb: SELECT CAST(CAST(p.packagedata AS varbinary(max)) AS varchar(max)) FROM msdb.dbo.sysssispackages p WHERE p.name = 'LePackage' This just returned a bunch of XML with encrypted data on it: I knew there was a job in SQL Agent scheduled to execute the package, and when I tried to look at details on the job step I got the following: Not very helpful. The password had to be saved somewhere, but where?? All of a sudden I remembered that there was a system table I hadn’t queried yet: SELECT sjs.command FROM msdb.dbo.sysjobs sj JOIN msdb.dbo.sysjobsteps sjs ON sj.job_id = sjs.job_id WHERE sj.name = 'Run LePackage' The result: “Well, that’s really secure”, I thought to myself. Hi all, i'm trying to enable jboss to uses ssl protocol using a previously generated certificate from verisign, i imported both certificate, server certificate and ca certificate into the keytore file, and i configured the server.xml to use that keystore and activate ssl protocol, then when i run the jboss, I got this error "certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled" Question, reading some post on internet, i found that every example was made it generating a Certificate Request, it stricly necesary to do that if i already have the server certificate and that CSR has to be imported into the keystore as well ? at this point i'm very confused about this issue, i tried almost every solutions posted in several forums but till now i haven't any luck !! can you give me some tips in order to solve this problem. thanks in advance this are my keystore file: Keystore type: jks Keystore provider: SUN Your keystore contains 2 entries j2ee, Dec 29, 2009, trustedCertEntry, Certificate fingerprint (MD5): 69:CC:2D:2A:2D:EF:C4:DB:A2:26:35:57:06:29:7D:4C ugent, Dec 29, 2009, trustedCertEntry, Certificate fingerprint (MD5): AC:D8:0E:A2:7B:B7:2C:E7:00:DC:22:72:4A:5F:1E:92 and my server.xml configuration:

But that didn't fix the Software Center. Help would be greatly appreciated. ADDED UPDATE I've tried to install aptitude using dpkg but can't. I have also tried sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get autoremove sudo dpkg --configure -a --force-all and the -f options. UTF-8 encoding problem with flash mysql and php

Hi, As you may know, I am programming an on-line game using FLASH. I am connecting my FLASH 8 movie with MySQL database through PHP. I am doing very good in that, and I have everything working fine. The problems come when I am trying to insert (Using the INSERT SQL func) data to the database that are non-english. In other words, UTF-8 data. I red a lot of articls about that stuff and found and apply the fallowing: 1. In PHP4, you need to tell the PHP to use UTF-8 when using the xml_parser_crater() func, however, in PHP5 that is done automatically. Even though I told PHP5 to use the UTF-8 when calling the func. Adding the header to the XML sent to PHP from flash. Force the FLASH to use UTF-8 encoding in the preference options. Set the encoding in MySQL to UTF-8 (utf8_unicode_ci with InnoDB engine). I can read and insert the other language data correctly in the phpadmin as well. I did all that in my coding, and still I can't insert such data. one more strange thing is that, when I use the same link, that the FLASH using, with the XML, that the FLASH creating, on the browser (google chrome), I got the data inserted right in the database!!!!! I am about to get crazy about that stuff, What am I missing? what cause the problem? Thank you in advance.

Not able to save Global navigation - SharePoint 2007

I have migrated my sitecollection(migsitecollection) to different farm using content deployment job. http://vsmoss/sites/migsitecollection I used collaboration portal to create it.Its working fine from where I migrated it but after running content deployment jobs my new migrated site global navigation settings are not getting saved when I am trying ot change them by going in settings-Navigation and in logs I can see this error The SPNavigation store is likely corrupt. I saw on net the solution for this problem is changing onet.xml and running script on sql database for the site, I am eager to better answer than this but if its the same I have few doubts on it: First,As my site template is not customised its the collobartion portal so I am not sure where exactly to change the onet.xml. Second, I am using the same database as of my webapplication running that script would not affect anything else on the main site of mine?

The input looks like this:  <root> <tree foo="abcd" bar="abccdcd" /> <dontTouch foo="asd" bar="abc" /> </root> Now I want to change all c to X in the bar tag of the tree element.  <root> <tree foo="abcd" bar="abXXdXd" /> <dontTouch foo="asd" bar="abc" /> </root> How is the correct sed command? Please consider, there can be more than one occurence of c (next to each other or not) in one tag... I tried this myself, but it won't change multiple c, and it does append a X :( sed -i 's/$<tree.*bar=\".*$c$.*\"\/>$/\1X\2/g' Input.xml

Ant trouble with environment variables on Ubuntu

Having some trouble with with ant reading environment variables in Ubuntu 9.1. Specifically, the build tasks my company uses has a token like ${env.CATALINA_HOME] in the main build.xml. I set CATALINA_HOME to the correct value in /etc/environment, ~/.pam_environment and (just to be safe) my .bashrc. I can see the correct value when I run printenv from bash, or when I eval (getenv "CATALINA_HOME") in emacs. Ant refuses to build to the correct directory though; instead I get a folder named ${env.CATALINA_HOME} in the same directory as my build.xml. Any idea what's happening there, and/or how to fix it?

In other words, I need two providers, working simultaneously: Ordinary SSL signed certificate (# Thawte) on 443 port Special russian security provider (# DIGTProvider, based on CryptoPro CSP software) on 444 port I also have to mentioned, that the major provider is the 2'nd provider. Here is some of DIGTProvider options: add to ${JRE_HOME}/lib/security/java.security this line security.provider.N=com.digt.trusted.jce.provider.DIGTProvider ssl.SocketFactory.provider=com.digt.trusted.jsse.provider.DigtSocketFactory uncomment and edit in conf/server.xml HTTPS section: sslProtocol="GostTLS" (added) edit bin/catalina.sh and add: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:/opt/cprocsp/lib/ia32" export JAVA_OPTS="${JAVA_OPTS} -Dcom.digt.trusted.jsse.server.certFile=/home//server-gost.cer -Dcom.digt.trusted.jsse.server.keyPasswd=11111111" As I know if I just define in server.xml tomcat's configuration file two SSL connectors, tomcat would not start, because in JRE you can use only one JSSE provider. Comparing the Performance of Visual Studio's Web Reference to a Custom Class

As developers, we all make assumptions when programming. Perhaps the biggest assumption we make is that those libraries and tools that ship with the .NET Framework are the best way to accomplish a given task. For example, most developers assume that using ASP.NET's Membership system is the best way to manage user accounts in a website (rather than rolling your own user account store). Similarly, creating a Web Reference to communicate with a web service generates markup that auto-creates a proxy class, which handles the low-level details of invoking the web service, serializing parameters, and so on. Recently a client made us question one of our fundamental assumptions about the .NET Framework and Web Services by asking, "Why should we use proxy class created by Visual Studio to connect to a web service?" In this particular project we were calling a web service to retrieve data, which was then sorted, formatted slightly and displayed in a web page. The client hypothesized that it would be more efficient to invoke the web service directly via the HttpWebRequest class, retrieve the XML output, populate an XmlDocument object, then use XSLT to output the result to HTML. Surely that would be faster than using Visual Studio's auto-generated proxy class, right? Prior to this request, we had never considered rolling our own proxy class; we had always taken advantage of the proxy classes Visual Studio auto-generated for us. In Jetty, can NCSARequestLog be configured to auto-detect the time zone?

It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system? (X-posted to Stack Overflow.)

Need help configurating my Tomcat server without any WAR files

I just reinstalled my entire server, and now I can't seem to get my JSP-based website to work on Tomcat anymore. I use the same server.xml file, which worked perfectly before the reinstallation, but no longer. This blog describes how to create a PL/SQL based Entity Object.Oracle application has number of APIs and each API will perform numerous number of tasks.We can create PL/SQL based EO which will directly invoke the PL/SQL stored procedure from the EO. Here I am demonstrating using a standard API FND_USER_PKG.CREATEUSER.This API has x_user_name and x_owner as mandatory parameter.My task is to create a user through OAF page which will accept User Name and Password. Following steps needs to be performed to achieve the above scenario. 1) Create FndUserEO as follows Include all the API parameters and WHO columns in the EO. Make UserName and EncryptedUserPassword ( Here I am not using Encrypted Password. The column name is same as table column so I am keeping the same) column as mandatory. Generate VO. 2) Edit FndUserEOImpl and add the following 3) Attach FndUserVO to AM 4) Create the UI 5) Deploy following files to middle tier and restart the server. I deploy apps via ClickOnce. After each deployment we have to review the changes made and send out an email to the users with the changes. What I decided now to do is to use CodebaseHQ’s API to access a project’s SVN repository and display the commit notes so some users who download new updates can check what was changed or updated in an app. This saves a heck of a lot of time, especially when your apps are in beta and you are making several changes daily based on feedback.
