  • Burn more than one ISO to one dvd?

    I just turned 11 CDs with a total of 1gb of stuff into ISOs. Is it possible for me to just burn all the ISO videos into a DVD? Any alternative way for me to do it? Edit: I need to be playable on any DVD player. It's videos for my grandparents. Update: I read that DVD shrink should work (re-authoring software), but I didn't try it because when I imported the VIDEO_TS folders into the software, my video wasn't played widescreen, and I dont' know how to fix it.

  • Increasing Screen Resolution to more than limit and scaling to origional

    I have a laptop, with Screen Resolution - 1366x768 (most common) - I want to increase it further to 1600x900 (or higher), in the same ratio. I want to scale the higher resolution on my current screen to fit it. I found xrandr with command xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.4x1.4, this worked but again resulted to another problem, it does the scaling thing but the cursor is still blocked into the native screen resolution and I am not able to move it further, I found that the bug is already filed here. Also this command was only for Linux, I wanted to do this thing with both Linux and Windows (including Windows 8). I want a similar software that is bug free (at least not a major bug like this) and that supports Windows as well (or two separate software for Windows and Linux). Any help is appreciated and Thanks in advance.

    Hi, Our environment is: Windows Server 2003, Service Pack 2 SQL Server Express 2005 SQLServer JDBC driver 1.2 (also tried Jtds) Sun JDK 1.6 (we tried this on JDK 1.5 as well) There is no virus protection software on the host, and no firewall is enabled. We have Web application deployed in JBOSS 4.0.2. Our problem is that the JDBC connection to SQL server periodically gets disconnected, and then we can't reconnect to the SQL server at all, unless we physically restart the server on which JBOSS deployed. we are getting following error in log. Software caused connect on abort: recv failed Note: We are able to connect to SQL server using sample java test class. Any suggestions would be most appreciated, as this is a serious, mission-criticial problem for us right now.

    I can't seem to fix or update, upgrade VLC AT ALL; this is what I get when trying to install, I had vlc before, but was not working properly so I uninstalled it; then I try to Install again to have the full properties.   • How can I backup my PPAs?

    Related to this question. But my concern is that over the past year, most of my more interesting (or used) applications are from PPAs, and just backing up my sources list won't add the associated launchpad keys the way that add-apt-repository does. So I'm looking for a way to list all the PPA urls (like ppa:chromium-daily/stable) so that I can easily script a series of add-apt-repository commands to add them into a new installation gracefully. Short of dumping my bash history of course. Which might be feasible, depending on how far back that file goes back?

  • Do I have to chmod 777 my NFS folder when I share?

    Under Redhat, if I export a folder as an NFS mount, does the folder have to have RW for users/groups/others? Right now /storage/software is -rwxr-xr-x root/root i.e. /etc/exportfs /storage/software *(rw,sync) On my client, I can mount but I can't write. I'm using a regular user and NOT root. I think "no_root_squash" fixes it but I really don't want that. Then again, nor do I want to have to chmod 777 the folder on the server.

    I want to setup proxy server for my Mikrotik router. There is inbuilt web-proxy for Mikrotik router but I can extend this upto transparent proxy(kind of proxy server) only. We need High anonymity proxy so that we can hide our LAN static IPs(we don't have private IP) from outside Intruder/hackers. And also I know I can setup NAT rule to hide our IP(only private IP not public/static IP) as per this link, but I cann't hide static/public IP. Essentially I want to hide our Public/Static IP (there is static/public IP for all systems in our company) from outside Internet. To achieve this I guess I need other software apart from Mikrotik router gateway setup. can anyone suggest me Is there any other software to achieve my requirement? I know about squid proxy but am not sure whether It can hide our static/public IP. Note: we have assigned public/Static IP to all systems of our company since we have rights to access our company's system from anywhere by dedicated laptop(given by our company with more security) through VPN connection.

I wanted to use text description instead of using voice description, a simple example of what I've explained could be this short screencasting, where author uses short text messages instead of explaining it with his own voice. Could you recommend any free software for doing such a screencasting please? Would be better if it works in Ubuntu or if it is a web application. UPDATE I have found out Wink which could add explanations boxes as I said. Now the problem is that it doesn't support Linux 64bit, has only 32bit. Any other app like Wink for 64bit Linux?

  • What are some general guidelines for setting up an iOS project I will want to personally publish but sell in the future?

    I have an idea for a personal iOS project that I would like to write and release to the iOS store. I'm the type of developer who enjoys developing and publishing. I want to write quality software and take care of my customers. Assuming that I wrote an application that had reasonable success, there is a fair chance that I would want to sell the ownership rights of the app to another party and I'd use the proceeds to develop my next personal project which, in turn, I'd probably want to sell in the future. With that said, what are some general guidelines for creating, making and publishing an iOS project that I will eventually want to transfer to another company/developer? I know this is a bit of a broad question, but I request that the given advice be a general list of tips, suggestions and pitfalls to avoid. If any particular bullet point on your list needs more explanation, I'll either search for the answer or post a new question specific to that requirement. Thank you!     Plenty of sentiment exists that measuring commits is inappropriate. Has any study been done that tries to draw in more sources than commits - such as: browsing patterns IDE work (pre-commit) idle time multitasking I can't think of an easy way to do these measures, but I wonder if any study has been done. On a personal note, I do believe that reflection on one's own 'metrics' could be valuable regardless of (or in the absence of) using these for performance eval. I.E. an un-biased way to reflect on your habits. But this is a discussion matter beyond Q&A.

  • Mass editing videos on Ubuntu?

    Hi, I'm trying to add a watermark and a credits image to all of my old videos. I downloaded them off YouTube so they are all flv (H.264?). Is there some software that will allow me do simple edits in batches? I know a little bit of Python and tried looking at some of the library but they all seem like overkill (and way above my head). So is there a solution besides getting some software and going through all my videos and doing it manually? They are all mostly the same length, but it would be nice to specify a relative position for my credits. e.g. show a static image for 10 seconds when the video is at 95%

    If you work on multiple computers, you probably use a USB drive to take your favorite portable software with you. Portable application suites like PortableApps.com, CodySafe, or Lupo PenSuite, each have a main menu providing access to the programs installed into the suite. However, there may be reasons why you need to create shortcuts to programs on your USB drive. You may be using a program that does not integrate into the suite’s main menu. Or, you may not be using an official portable application suite at all, and just placing portable software in a folder on your USB drive. Maybe you prefer using shortcuts on the root of the USB drive, like a portable desktop. Whatever your reason, you can’t just create a shortcut to an application on the USB drive and place it in the root of the drive. The shortcut will always refer to the full path of the application, including the drive letter. Different computers assign different drive letters to USB flash drives, so you would have to change the drive letter for your shortcuts when it changes. You can assign a static drive letter to the USB drive. However, if you would rather not do that, there is a way to create shortcuts to programs on a USB drive using relative paths. Because Windows does not support relative paths in shortcuts, we will show you how to create a “shortcut” on the root of a USB drive by creating a batch (.bat) file and converting it to an executable (.exe) file.   • How do I SCP/FTP to a Coraid SR2421

    I need to save data to a Coraid SR2421. I am no expert and I'm trying to understand how this costy piece of hardware works. All I have is a Ethernet cable connecting my laptop and the coraid to a switch and the coraid's console with cursor blinking. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. edit and further explanation: I've tried using software on the coraid website but It's not working. So I've contacted the support and they sent me a file to upload on the coraid. It looks like if I upgrade coraid's firmware then I'll be able to use the coraid software on the windows side. That's why I'd need SCP/FTP or any kind of solution to copy a file in the partition that can be read from coraid console command line so I can launch the update command as requested. I hope I was a bit clearer now.

  • How do you get better working conditions? [closed]

    I work at a business who has a software side and manufacturing side. The software we write is sold as a package along with other hardware that our customers purchase. I basically work in a warehouse. There is one door that seperates the engineers from the warehouse noise. I have asked for noise cancelling walls to be put in. I have asked multiple times over 6 months to be moved up front to one of two vacant sales offices, but they seem reluctant to let an Engineer move into a sales office. In fact, sales are the only ones with windows and they get commission though they make mistakes or overpromise to the customer. So, my question is how can I get better working conditions without necessarily having to leave my current job? It is very hard to work and concentrate. UPDATE I think I can finally close this chapter in my life. I have moved on to a large corporation which follows CMMI religiously and has even started using Agile in many of its projects. Nevertheless, there is organization, respect, and genuine care for the engineers and scientists that work for them. Pierre was right - quitting was the right answer. My life does not nearly have the amount of stress it used to have because I now work for a place that is organized and knows what it wants its engineers to do along with treating them like they should be treated.

    Got some help from Ralph today and now the JEditorPane is as I want it, e.g., code folds are now supported once you click in the JEditorPane, though there are still some side effects, since this is not how anyone anticipated NetBeans editor APIs being used. But, so far, the side effects (e.g., now the hyperlinks work, but they open a new JavaScript file when you click on one of them, instead of jumping within the JEditorPane itself) are not so terrible. Error checking is also done now, which wasn't there before, i.e., red underlines and error annotations in the right margin. And maybe it's my imagination, but the editor feels a lot snappier, e.g., in code completion, than before.     Since many of you are already there I figured this might be a great place to invite ideas and suggestion for becoming a software developer. My background I have some basic knowledge of programming in VB and C++ from a course I had pursued 8 years ago. My main drawback is a lack of experience in software since I was in a teaching career until a year ago. I am working as a QA tester and finally got a chance to write some automation tests scripts using C#. I didn't have any prior knowledge of C# but I was able to figure my way through it. Questions Given this context: Would anyone have any ideas as to what would be a good approach to learn enough to actually be able to work as a developer? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of learning path to adopt and which approaches speed up learning curve? Would pursuing university course be helpful in terms of knowledge gained? Are certification exams a way to go for a beginner? Are community college courses useful? What about courses offered by private institutes/centers? Any suggestion for some good books?

  • Static HTML to Wordpress Migration SEO Implications?

    Recently, I migrated a client's site to a new server and a new home within wordpress so they could more easily edit their website and start a blog section. The static site was 10 years old a was showing up at place #3 for it's primary keyword, consistently, according to my client, and has dropped to rank #6-8 following the migration. At launch, we made sure the urls were identical (save the removal of ".htm" which we used 301 redirects to compensate for) and we generated a new XML map and pinged google with the new site. We keep a 404 log to make sure we're not losing any incoming links. We also have Google Webmaster Tools on this site and have zero errors/suggestions, everything seems ok. I was told by numerous sources that Google would not penalize us for the use of 301s, but it's the only thing I can think of right now that is different about the site, other than the platform. Any ideas about what we could be getting docked for?
