• Can't Get Virtual Users Setup in VSFTPD -Tried Everything

  Have Ubuntu 11.10 with vsftpd installed and working. Can not get virtual users setup at all? Vsftpd will allow main Ubuntu owner account to login, but nothing else? I've followed several tutorials on adding virtual users, but nothing works? I just need to add 2 virtual users and have them be able to upload files to vsftpd Ubuntu computer from other computers on my Lan network. Everywhere I've looked, people just point toward tutorials on adding virtual users, but that just is NOT working. I've been struggling with this for over a week now! PLEASE Help. Thanks. I'll even give a donation if someone can figure this out. here is the vsftpd.conf file I am using. I copied the original, and make a new one, every time I try a tutorial. So far, none have worked. • Mimicking basic fcntl or SetHandleInformation call in .Net

  Tornado enables win32 support by faking Python's fcntl function using SetHandleInformation, which is available via ctypes on Windows. After some other small fixes, this actually works using IronPython on Windows as well (sadly, IronPython is five times slower). I'd like to get Tornado working on any CLI platform, such using Mono on OSX or Linux. Is there a managed, cross-platform, .Net approach that can fake fcntl? • Safari extension - Too many injected scripts responding to message

  Hi, I am trying to code a safari extension similar to Bubble Translate for Chrome. when you click a button on the toolbar, it automatically translates the text currently selected to the language of your choice using the Google language API. I use the following injected script to get the highlighted text and display the result (as an alert for the time being): http://pastebin.com/bYVuQAmp I use the following global script to call the injected script if neccessary: hxxp://pastebin.com/VHaAKM5a The problem I have is the following: The script does not just get injected into the main page but also into ads and similar stuff that is embedded into the page. Due to that, the selected text gets translated multiple times because all the embedded scripts in one page respond to the message. • Python: Why is IDLE so slow?

  Hi, IDLE is my favorite Python editor. It offers very nice and intuitive Python shell which is extremely useful for unit-testing and debugging, and a neat debugger. However, code executed under IDLE is insanely slow. • Matching n parentheses in perl regex

  Hi, I've got some data that I'm parsing in Perl, and will be adding more and more differently formatted data in the near future. What I would like to do is write an easy-to-use function, that I could pass a string and a regex to, and it would return anything in parentheses. It would work something like this (pseudocode): sub parse { $data = shift; $regex = shift; $data =~ eval ("m/$regex/") foreach $x ($1...$n) { push (@ra, $x); } return \@ra; } Then, I could call it like this: @subs = parse ($data, '^"([0-9]+)",([^:]*):(\W+):([A-Z]{3}[0-9]{5}),ID=([0-9]+)'); As you can see, there's a couple of issues with this code. I don't know if the eval would work, the 'foreach' definitely wouldn't work, and without knowing how many parentheses there are, I don't know how many times to loop. This is too complicated for split, so if there's another function or possibility that I'm overlooking, let me know. Thanks for your help!

• It is okay to migrate to Asp.NET 4.0 now?

  Okay today, as most of you noticed Framework 4.0 has been released. I've been working on a project which is being built on framework 3.5. Since I want to use dynamic keyword and most of the asp.net features like Tableless Menu Control, ClientIDMode and clean web.config etc. I am kinda urging to migrate the unfinished project to 4.0 but I am little hesitating about that.Some times I think it is way better to wait for SP1. So what do you think about it? You guys will migrate to unfinished projects or will still hang out with 3.5 for a while. Thanks.

  Hello. I'm starting with Python coming from java. I was wondering if there exists something similar to JavaDoc API where I can find the class, its methods and and example of how to use it. I've found very helpul to use help( thing ) from the Python ( command line ) I have found this also: http://docs.python.org/ http://docs.python.org/modindex.html But it seems to help when you already the class name you are looking for. In JavaDoc API I have all the classes so if I need something I scroll down to a class that "sounds like" what I need. Or some times I just browse all the classes to see what they do, and when I need a feature my brain recalls me We saw something similar in the javadoc remember!? But I don't seem to find the similar in Python ( yet ) and that why I'm posting this questin. • What is considered a long execution time?

  I am trying to figure out just how "efficient" my server-side code is. Using start and end microtime(true) values, I am able to calculate the time it took my script to run. I am getting times from .3 - .5 seconds. These scripts do a number of database queries to return different values to the user. What is considered an efficient execution time for PHP scripts that will be run online for a website? Note: I know it depends on exactly what is being done, but just consider this a standard script that reads from a database and returns values to the user. Also, I look at Google and see them search the internet in .15 seconds and I feel like my script is crap. Thanks.

  I have a python list of lists as shown below: mylist=[ [['orphan1', ['some value1']]], [['parent1', ['child1', ['child', ['some value2']]]]], [['parent1', ['child2', ['child', ['some value3']]]]] ] I need to convert the above list to some thing like this: result=[ ['orphan1', ['some value1']], ['parent1', ['child1', ['child', ['some value2']]], ['child2', ['child', ['some value3']]]] ] Kindly help me approach this problem. I have given only simple list. In actual scenario here, in my list, even grand parents/grand childs are there. How much ever deep the input nested list is, I need to convert it to a single nested list, with common list elements (parents and grand parents) appearing only once. (but the next to innermost list element('child' in above example) should appear as many times it occurs in the input list. I have been trying to do this last two days, but did not end up with working solution :(. I need to use the output in django template filter: unordered_list so that the resultant nested list appears as a nested unordered list in my html page ..

• emacs: force ido-mode to forget history...

  Hi, I wonder if I can keep ido from not remembering my history and only show completions for files that are in the current directory when I am searching for a file. I understand that this history feature is useful at times, but I often end up editing the incorrect file because I think I am editing file called 'abc.txt' in the current directory but in fact I am editing the file by the same name in another one that I previously visited (often happens when there is not an 'abc.txt' in the current directory, as I mistakenly assume). From reading the ido.el file I thought to set in my .emacs file (also evaluated these expressions in running emacs instance): (custom-set-variables '(ido-enable-last-directory-history nil) '(ido-record-commands nil) ) and deleted a file called .ido.last in ~/, but still it remembers some previous files I've visited before making these changes. How can I purge my previous history, and I am not entirely sure what the difference between the two variables above are but seems to have done the trick to keep ido from remembering files I visit in the future? • Importing a function/class from a Python module of the same name

  I have a Python package mymodule with a sub-package utils (i.e. a subdirectory which contains modules each with a function). The functions have the same name as the file/module in which they live. I would like to be able to access the functions as follows, from mymodule.utils import a_function Strangely however, sometimes I can import functions using the above notation, however other times I cannot. I have not been able to work out why though (recently, for example, I renamed a function and the file it was in and reflected this rename in the utils.__init__.py file but it no longer imported as a functions (rather as a module) in one of my scripts. The utils.__init__.py reads something like, __all__ = ['a_function', 'b_function' ...] from a_function import a_function from b_function import b_function ... mymodule.__init__.py has no reference to utils Ideas?

  Hi, I have a HTML file which contains the following: <img src="MATCH1" bla="blabla"> <something:else bla="blabla" bla="bla"><something:else2 something="something"> <something image="MATCH2" bla="abc"> Now I need a regex to match both MATCH1 and MATCH2 Also the HTML contains multiple parts like this, so it can be in the HTML 1, 2, 3 of x times.. When I say: <img\s*src="(.*?)".*?<something\s*image="(.*?)" It doesn't match it. What am I missing here? Thanks in advance!

  I have a method whose callers require different datatypes. I could repeat the requisite conversions a dozen times by putting them in each of the callers, but it seems much more efficient to do it once in the called method. public String myMethod(String myArg) { return DoSomething(myArg); } public Int32 myMethod(String myArg) { return Convert.ToInt32(DoSomething(myArg)); } private String DoSomething(key) { return SomeList[key]; } If I have multiple methods that pull data from SomeList and have to utilize different data types then in each I have to do a type conversion. Examples might be session variables or query or form requests or any other number of things.   I'm going to travel through Thailand and I want to keep track of my location to geotag photos afterwards taken with a digital camera (iPhone's camera is not good enough). There are two things that are important here: I don't want to update manually I want the battery to last as long as possible, since the times I will be able to charge will be scarce I've thought about creating a web page that periodically sends my geolocation to a script that stores it in a database, but I don't know if GPS data is available in Mobile Safari. Second, I want the data I send to be as small as possible, and the frequency this is done s few as possible, because of the pricing of mobile data usage abroad. • SQL model optimization question

  I need to keep track of number of "hits" on a particular item in a DB. The thing is that the "hits" should stay unique with a user ID, so if a user hits the item 3 times, it should still count for a hit of 1. Also, I need to display the total number of hits for a particular item. Is there a better way than to store each hits for each items by each users in a separate table? Would keeping the user ID in a string separated by commas a better and efficient way?

  In the past I have primarily built all my web applications using an N-tier architecture, implementing the BLL and DAL layers. Recently, I have started doing some RoR development as well as looking into ASP.NET MVC. I understand the differences between the different architectures(as referenced by some other SO posts), but I can't really think of any reasons why I wouldn't choose an MVC model going forward. Is there any reasons/times in your experience when an MVC architecture would not be suitable, or any reasons why you would choose a BLL/DAL architecture instead?

I have used this pattern/idiom several times without any issues. Since I have been using Java 5, my first thought was that this has been rectified in Java 5 memory model. However the article says This article refers to the Java Memory Model before it was revised for Java 5.0; statements about memory ordering may no longer be correct. However, the double-checked locking idiom is still broken under the new memory model. I'm wondering if anyone has actually run into this problem in any application and under what conditions.

• How to log into a salesforce.com sandbox?

  I took over a Rails app and am trying to get the Salesforce.com API credentials set up for my user account. I'm set as a system admin with "Developer Mode" on (though I have no clue what that does, I just saw it set on the previous account.) We have a sandbox. I click the login link on it, enter my sandbox username ([email protected]), enter my password, and get "Login attempt has failed". I know my password is okay since I've logged into the production site several times. Using different domains (test.salesforce.com, etc) doesn't help either.

• VB Script - Unmount USB drive

  I have tedious project coming up. I need to insert a usb flash drive into a computer, then copy over three files to that drive, and then unmount it and repeat 3000 times (literally). I was hoping to come up with some VB Script that can reduce my input to just 1.) insert the usb and 2.) double click on the .vbs file and remove the usb flash drive. I figure it isnt too difficult to come up with the copy and paste part of the code as long as I am inserting the usb into the same port every time. Is this assumption correct? However, the real problem is unmounting/ejecting the usb drive. Is there any simple VB Script code that can accomplish this? Thank you, -Corey

• Workflow foundation 4.0 message correlation and error reporting

  I have a workflow service that runs and performs a number of different operations (such as web service calls). If one of these operations fails I call an error reporting web service to notify a seperate system that one of my workflow operations has failed. As the error could be something like the web service being down, I loop and retry this operation until it works. There can be times though when the data I'm passing to this web service is faulty and it needs changing. So I need to be able to hook into this running (but delayed) workflow and change local workflow variables and then re-run the operation. I've looked at message correlation in workflow 4.0 to achieve this but because the delay activity is active in my running workflow instance, any second service call doesn't do anything (it's like the delay activity is blocking any other requests). I've tried setting 'CanCreateInstance' to both true and false but it doesn't help. Thanks!
