• Access violation when accessing a COM object from .Net

  Dear Sirs, I am sorry if the post is too long, but I would be happy if someone would at least point read the bolded titles, and point me in the right direction. I am having this problem for couple of days, but was unable to found the answer on the net. These are the things I have found out so far. 1. "Access violation" exception crushes my managed application My C# WinForms app sometimes closes with an "Access violation" exception ("Attempted to read or write protected memory"), right in the moment when selecting a TabPage in a windows form TabControl. From the stack trace (try/catch around Application.Run) I can see that the exception happens at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.DispatchMessageW(MSG& msg), called inside UnsafeNativeMethods.IMsoComponentManager.FPushMessageLoop(Int32 dwComponentID, Int32 reason, Int32 pvLoopData). -- Message: Attempted to read or write protected memory. Bug is not easy to reproduce (although it can be provoked usually in less than 5 min.) I have several Chart instances in several TabPages, and this usually happens while I am switching the tabs. I still don't know how to reproduce it, besides switching those tabs for several minutes before it happens, so I cannot use our source control to reliably find the build which didn't have this problem. I am accessing the charts through the managed AxChart wrapper class (derived from AxHost), which was created by VS designer automatically. 4. What should be my next step? If someone could point me to the next step I should do to find the actual cause, I would be very grateful. Experimenting (removing and returning code) does not do much good, because I don't know how to reproduce it, so it would take large amounts of time on each iteration just to convince myself that the bug is still there. I have found that people often suggest something like "switching compiler optimizations", but since the exception is not thrown deterministically, I don't want to simply rearrange some bytes and hope that it never returns. The customer would then simply add the report file to a custom folder, and could access it directly from our application. Using a web app, how is this possible. It seems like anything created, using ssrs, crystal, or even telerik reporting must be embedded. What are some methods for providing custom reports to users of an asp.net web application?

I've been searching on SO & Google for a breakdown of the various View Engines available for ASP.NET MVC, but haven't found much more than simple high-level descriptions of what a view engine is. I'm not necessarily looking for "best" or "fastest" but rather some real world comparisons of advantages / disadvantages of the major players (e.g. the default WebFormViewEngine, MvcContrib View Engines, etc.) for various situations. I think this would be really helpful in determining if switching from the default engine would be advantageous for a given project or development group. Has anyone encountered such a comparison?

In this model I've a property called Rides (shown below), which exposes a list, which I obviously not want to be replaced entirely. So I made it readonly.   Hi there, having a slight problem with an ASP.net page of mine. If a user were to double click on a "submit" button it will write to the database twice (i.e. carry out the 'onclick' method on the imagebutton twice) How can I make it so that if a user clicks on the imagebutton, just the imagebutton is disabled? I've tried: <asp:ImageButton runat="server" ID="VerifyStepContinue" ImageUrl=image src ToolTip="Go" TabIndex="98" CausesValidation="true" OnClick="methodName" OnClientClick="this.disabled = true;" /> But this OnClientClick property completely stops the page from being submitted! Any help? Sorry, yes, I do have Validation controls... hence the icky problem.

• Global "ajax call" notification with asp.net mvc/jquery

  I need to be notified any time a largeish asp.net mvc web application makes an ajax call to the server. We're using both jquery, and the built-in Ajax.* methods to do the remote calls, and I would like a global way of knowing when we make a call without having to manually inject some sort of "IsMakingCall" method to every request. The root problem we're trying to solve is session timeout. If the user leaves a page up and goes to lunch (for example), they get errors when they get back because the ajax call is returning the login page instead of the expected json or partial html result. My idea was to have a js timer which would be reset any time we make an ajax call. That way, if the timer runs out (ie. their session has now timed out) I can just auto-log them out. This is how sites like bank of america and mint.com work. Thanks!

  C sharp newbie question...I have a simple asp.net form that has a textbox that collects phonenumbers to send SMS messages. If I bypass the form and hardcode the numbers using the following format: "2133211234",#1233211234" the code works fine. However when i try to use this same format using my form, the sms will ONLY send to the first number. I have a feeling i'm missing out on some property on my form that will accept all of the values. also any idea how how i can add some lines of code that will allow users to enter numbers like this: 3123211234,4123212344 and have it converted to the format above when the number is submitted? • Problem sending mail with simple .net application. Server refusal error.

  I have a very simple .net application for testing SMTP on .net. But i am receiving this weird error. "System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. --- System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server --- System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it" SMTP server is remote and doesn't need any kind of authentication so i don't need credentials. But i can send mails from this computer with outlook using same smtp server and same smtp settings without any problem. Any ideas? It will be appreciated so much. • ASP.NET / WCF - Execute Server.Execute Asynchronously

  Hello, I need to run the HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute method in my ASP.NET application. This application has a WCF operation that does some processing. Currently, I am to do my processing correctly from within my WCF operation. However, I would like to do this asynchronously. In an error to attempt this asynchronously, I tried running Server.Execute in the DoWork event handler of a BackgroundWorker. Unfortunately, this throws an error that says "object reference not set to an instance of an object" The HttpContext element is not null. I checked that. It is some property nested in the HttpContext object that appears to be null. However, I have not been able to identify why this won't work. It happens as soon as I move the processing to the BackgroundWorker thread. My question is, how can I asynchronously execute the Server.Execute method? Thank you,

  Hello all, I want to write a custom HTTP Handler in ASP.Net (I'm using C# currently) that filters all requests to, say, .aspx files, and then, depending on the page name that comes with the requests, I redirect the user to a page. So far, I've written a handler that filter "*", that is, everything. Let's say I receive a request for "Page.aspx", and want to send the user to "AnotherPage.aspx". So I call Redirect on that response and pass "AnotherPage.aspx" as the new page. The problem is that this will once more trigger my handler, which will do nothing. This will leave the user without any response. So, is there a way to send the request to the other handlers (cascade the message) once I've dealt with it? Thanks, Bruno

  I need to create Unit Tests for an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 web site. The site uses Windows Authentication. I've been reading up on the necessity to mock the HTTP context for code that deals with the HttpContext. I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on the DI pattern as well. (Give the class an attribute of type IRepository and then pass in a Repository object when you instantiate the controller.) What I don't understand, however, is the proper way to Mock the Windows Principal object available through User.Identity. Is this part of the HttpContext? I already found this link in the web http://www.apache.org/~avik/dist/poi-2.5.1-dev-20040708.dll But the version of apache poi now is 3.6, I was wondering if there is a latest version out there? Does the apache foundation support such porting? I already tried to search the apache website too with no avail. As for using Microsoft library, the excel interopt is not that good for concurrent processing like a web backend.   I apologize in advance for this likely being asked before. I have an asp.net 2.0 web application and am trying to set the session timeout. My first attempt was to add this to the web.config. < sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="300" Users would tell me though that after about 20 minutes of being idle and then trying to do something again on the site they'd be redirected back to the login page. So now I'm trying timeout="60" in my < forms tag in the web.config. I also tried Session.Timeout=60 in my global.asax. Should these work? Do I need something else? Thank you for your time and help.

  I have an online application that all of its pages use HTTPS. I have 3 questions: Does Google index HTTPS pages? I have a password protected single ASP.NET page (using HTTPS). Password protection is basically achieved by a Session object. When the correct password is entered, it hides the login panel and displays the same page which has a sensitive data. Is this page indexed by Google? I have a Secure folder that I implemented Forms Authentication. All pages in folder use HTTPS as well. Are the pages in this folder indexed by Google?   I have a production ASP.Net MVC application that has been using the membership service. It has worked fine, up until today. Nothing has changed on the server, but I now have this error: System.Configuration.Provider.ProviderException: The 'System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider' requires a database schema compatible with schema version '1'. However, the current database schema is not compatible with this version. You may need to either install a compatible schema with aspnet_regsql.exe (available in the framework installation directory), or upgrade the provider to a newer version. I checked the asp_schemaversions table, and it looks fine. Please any help would be appreciated.

I have a File Upload Control, so i click the 'Browse' button and when i select a file from the select file dialog, i want the file to be shown as a link below the File Upload Control( somewhat similar to gmail). This file should be seen such a way that it can be deleted, if i wanted to. And also i should be able to upload another file from the File Upload control. • Please help me correct the small bugs in this image editor

  Hi, I'm working on a website that will sell hand made jewelry and I'm finishing the image editor, but it's not behaving quite right. Basically, the user uploads an image which will be saved as a source and then it will be resized to fit the user's screen and saved as a temp. The user will then go to a screen that will allow them to crop the image and then save it to it's final versions. All of that works fine, except, the final versions have 3 bugs. First is some black horizontal line on the very bottom of the image. Second is an outline of sorts that follows the edges. I thought it was because I was reducing the quality, but even at 100% it still shows up... And lastly, I've noticed that the cropped image is always a couple of pixels lower than what I'm specifying... Anyway, I'm hoping someone whose got experience in editing images with C# can maybe take a look at the code and see where I might be going off the right path. • Exceptions using CruiseControl.NET

  I recently updated to CC.NET 1.5 and I'm now getting some strange exceptions. On one project I get: - ThoughtWorks.CruiseControl.Core.CruiseControlException: Source control operation failed: svn: Can't create a character converter from native encoding to 'UTF-8' This happens when CC is checking a subversion repository for any mods. If I run the actual command line CC says is failing it works and returns an empty XML (there are no mods). Some other projects also fail to check mods with another "Source control operation failed" exception but no further info. Again the command is an "svn log" which when run from command line works ok. I'm using subversion 1.4.5 client side and my source repository exists on a separate box than my build server. Anyone got any ideas?
