  • What type of programs are C/C++ used for now?

    I started off with C in school, went to Java and now I primarily use the P's(Php, Perl, Python) so my exposure to the lower level languages have all but disappeared. I would like to get back into it but I can never justify using C over Perl or Python. What real-world apps are being built with these languages? Any suggestions if I want to dive back in, what can I do with C/C++ that I can't easily do with Perl/Python?

  • Need to integrate phpFox and Wordpress so that there is a single login.

    phpFox should take care of user login management, add user and edit user. But would like to automatically create a corresponding Wordpress account when user signs up for phpFox. And when user logs into phpFox user is auto logged into Wordpress so user doesn't really even realize Wordpress login or user account exists. What would be the best way to do this? Apps will be on the same server so could make native calls or use curl.

  • We have a Solaris 9 server running Oracle 10G and have been getting memory consumption errors for a few weeks now

    We recently upgraded our Enterprise application and everything worked ok until one weekend when we did a server reboot, ever since then we have run into memory errors. The server has 4GB of physical memory installed and the kernel parameters are set to the following (/etc/system). I'm not an Oracle guy so I'm not sure where to start looking but any informaiton is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. There are two databases running on this server, one is a production database and the other is a pre-production database. I have seen many great startups which built some neat apps on the email platform (for instance, friendfeed's notification mechanism, or surely posterous which mail is at the heart of their business logic), and wonder about which mail server have they found easy to learn and integrate with.   • Pros & Cons of separating the controllers using subfolders on an ruby on rails app based?

    Hi, Need some help gathering thoughts on this issue. Our team is moving ahead with the idea that separating the authenticated and public sections of our app in two separate folders will allow us to be more organized and secured. I have seen this approach for Admin apps within the site but never for authentication. We are currently using Authlogic. What would be the disadvantage of this? Thanks for your help.

    In iTunes Connect, the first screenshot (on left) is not showing up as the first screenshot in the App Store. In one case the 3rd screenshot in iTunes Connect shows up 1st on the App Store and in another case the 4th screenshot is 1st on the App Store. Does anyone know how to specify the order of images? I found this question, that says the 1st screenshot in iTunes Connect should be 1st on the App Store, but that is not the case for my 2 apps. iTunes connect screenshot order

    I've bundled a jar file as a mac application using jar bundler. I'm now trying to create an installer for this app so that: 1) The application will be placed in the applications folder 2) The application is added to the list of permissible apps in Mac Application Level Firewall Also, I have several example files I would like to include with this application - what is the best way to make these available to the user. Someone suggested I have the mpkg file launch a dmg file which would contain these files, but this seems circuitous. Thanks

    Question for indie Mac developers out there: How do I implement a 30-day time trial in a non-evil fashion? Putting a counter in the prefs is not an option, since wiping prefs once a month is not a problem for an average user. Putting the counter in a hidden file somewhere sounds a bit dodgy - as a user I hate when apps sprinkle my hard drive with random files. Any ideas?

  • Combobox seems to reload itself

    Hi, I have a combo box drop down for fonts in one of the apps. Now when I click on the dropdown to see the available list of fonts, I see a flickering effect. It seems as if the combo box keeps on reloading itself or getting refreshed. Is it because it covers some of the other UI elements like textboxes when I click to expand the list, or is it some kind of known bug with WPF? Is there a workaround for this?
