  • MongoMapper: how do I create a model like this

    Suppose we have two models, Task and User. So a user can have many tasks and tasks should be able to have many users too. But, a task should also have a unique creator who is also a user. Exemple: A task in this context is like this: Task ID, Task Creator, Users who should do the task User_1 creates a task and he is then the creator. User_1 specifies User_2 and User_3 as users who should do the task. So these two last users are not creators of task. How do I create this models so that if I have a task object, I can find it's creator and users who should complete it. And how do I do, if I have a user, to find all tasks he created and all tasks he should complete. Thank you.

    Hey guys here is my code (roughly): books.html.erb <% @books.each do |book| %> <% @bookid = book.id %> <div id="enter_stuff"> <%= render "input", :bookid => @bookid %> </div> <%end%> _input.html.erb <% @book = Book.find_by_id(@bookid) %> <strong>your book is: <%=h @book.name %></strong> create.rjs page.replace_html :enter_stuff, :partial => 'input2', :object => @bookid Only create.js doesn't seem to work though, if instead of passing the partial I passed "..." it does work, so I know its that there are instance variables in the partial that aren't being reset. Any ideas?

  • Get ANSI-colored output from external command

    I am writing a small script for watchr that runs my PHP unit tests. Current script runs tests using system() and displays them colored. I am trying to add libnotify functionality, but for that I need to parse the output and match against regexp, so that notification will either display green or red. system() doesn't return output, %x does return, but puts p doesn't display colors, which I need to quickly see which test failed. One option would be to run tests twice - once for display in terminal window, and second time for checking which notification to show, but I would rather avoid it.

  • Devise authenticating with username instead of email

    I'm new to Devise and have it working fine by using an email address as the authentication key. However, I have a use case which requires a username instead and I can't seem to get it working. I've added a string column, "username" to the users table, changed the fields from :email to :username in the sign-in form, and have changed the authentication key in devise.rb to :username yet when I go to sign in I'm met with this prompt: "Please enter an email address".   • Get absolute (base) url in sinatra.

    Right now, I do a get '/' do set :base_url, "#{request.env['rack.url_scheme']}://#{request.env['HTTP_HOST']}" # ... haml :index end to be able to use options.base_url in the HAML index.haml. But I am sure there is a far better, DRY, way of doing this. Yet I cannot see, nor find it. (I am new to Sinatra :)) Somehow, outside of get, I don't have request.env available, or so it seems. So putting it in an include did not work. How do you get your base url?

This is not what I want (atleast not what I think I want), since comments must always be related to users and article, how can I get a route like so new_user_article_comment edit_user_article_comment Then I could just do new_user_article_comment_path([@user, @article]) to create a new comment

    I want to test my User Session Controller testing that a user session is first built then saved. My UserSession class looks like this: class UserSession < Authlogic::Session::Base end The create method of my UserSessionsController looks like this: def create @user_session = UserSession.new(params[:user_session]) if @user_session.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully logged in." redirect_back_or_default administer_home_page_url else render :new end end and my controller spec looks like this: describe UserSessionsController do it "should build a new user session" do UserSession.stub!(:new).with(:email, :password) UserSession.should_receive(:new).with(:email => "[email protected]", :password => "foobar") post :create, :user_session => { :email => "[email protected]", :password => "foobar" } end end I stub out the new method but I still get the following error when I run the test: Spec::Mocks::MockExpectationError in 'UserSessionsController should build a new user session' <UserSession (class)> received :new with unexpected arguments expected: ({:password=>"foobar", :email=>"[email protected]"}) got: ({:priority_record=>nil}, nil) It's although the new method is being called on UserSession before my controller code is getting called. Calling activate_authlogic makes no difference.

My question is, how to use BDD with private methods? How can I unit test private methods? Is there better solution than: - making private methods public first and then making them private when I write public method that uses those private methods; or - in C# making all private methods internal and using InternalsVisibleTo attribute.   • In Sinatra, how can I serve static index.html files in subdirectories in public folder?

    I noticed that Sinatra does not recognize index.html files in public folder's subdirectories and returns an error when url is pointing to a directory without specifiying the file name. For example, if user enters a url like "www.mydomain.com/subdiretory/", Sinatra fails to recognize the existence of an index.html file in that directory. There are hundreds of subdirectories in my public folder so that it is impossible to specify each one of them in code (and the number of subdirectories keeps growing). How can I tell Sinatra to leave my web server (Apache) alone (to server index.html file) if there is an index.html file in a subdirectory of public folder when url is pointing to that directory without the file name?

    I don't know why it happens but my form for some reason does not post properly. I am very sure the form contains the required authentication token: <form action="/account/complete_verify_email/4df78710-e27b-4527-bd2d-71cd2e9a1271" method="post"><div style="margin:0;padding:0"><input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="341b07dfa682ed11a045e19956e2e3f5f499e8cb"></div> <input id="password" name="password" type="password"> <input name="commit" type="submit" value="Continue"> </form> Note the authenticity_token is there. What happened? And YOU KNOW WHAT? Quitting Safari and restart again solved the issue... but I can't think of what kind of intermittent behaviour could cause such problem.

  • How can I change the tags/css class of some dynamic text based on output from a helper?

    I have a repeated line which outputs something like: Call John Jones in -3 days (status) I have a helper called show_status(contact,email) which will output whether that particular email had been sent to that particular contact. If it is "sent," then that entire line should show up as "strike out." Similarly, if the number of days is -3 (<0), the line should be formatted in red. Here's my hack, but there must be a cleaner way to put the logic into the controller? I hard-code a value that wraps around the lines I want formatted, and assign the value based on a separate call to the same helper: <% for call in @campaign.calls %> <% if !show_call_status(@contact,call).blank? %> <%= strike_start = '<s>'%> <%= strike_end = '</s>' %> <% end %> <p> <%= strike_start %> <%= link_to call.title, call_path(call) %> on <%= (@contact.date_entered + call.days).to_s(:long) %> in <%= interval_email(@contact,call) %> days <%= make_call(@contact,call) %> <span class='status'><%= show_call_status(@contact,call) %></span> <%= strike_end %> </p> <% end %> I guess what I'd like to do is not have the if statement in the View.     I am writing a rake task which, at one point, uses a custom YAML file import method to seed the database. At one point in the import code, I have: ActiveRecord::Base.transaction do Trying to run the rake task throws: You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! You might have expected an instance of ActiveRecord::Base. The error occurred while evaluating nil.[] The stack trace points to the aforementioned line in the code. Is there a way to instantiate ActiveRecord::Base during a rake task? Thanks!

  • xvfb on a machine with a display, can an application run 'in the background?'

    I'm setting up to cron a web scraping job, using xvfb, firefox, and watir on my Mac OS X. In testing the script so far, firefox pops up visibly on the local desktop, the watir script executes, and then firefox exits (I quit firefox in my script). I'd like to set the xvfb DISPLAY such that firefox will run, but won't be seen on the local desktop, running 'in the background' so to speak. Nothing I've been able to find online discusses such a possibility - nor explains that it's not possible. Is it possible? If so, what do I need to do to make it work?

  • Super inplace controls in_place_select displays incorrectly

    I'm using the super_inplace_controls plugin to allow users to edit fields on the "show" page. However, I'm running into an issue with the in_place_select function. Here is my view: <p> <b>Status:</b> <%= in_place_select :incident, :incident_status, :choices => @statuses.map { |e| [e.name, e.id] } %> </p> This is in the 'Incident' view. IncidentStatus is a separate table that has_many Incidents. In the Incident controller, I retrieve @statuses like so: @statuses = IncidentStatus.find(:all) Everything works fine for the in_place_select, except the original display. In my browser, it shows: Status: #<IncidentStatus:0x1033147d8> Which means it's not grabbing the current incident_status.name, but it's just changing the object to a string. I'm not sure how to fix this! When I click on the "IncidentStatus:0x1033147d8", everything works properly and I can select the proper fields. Thanks for any help!

    In my edit.haml file, I have =render :partial => 'old_question_tags', :locals => {:current_question => @question.id}. I'd like to pass the value in :current_question to a link_to_remote call in _old_question_tags.haml: #{link_to_remote image_tag('red-x.png', {:alt => "Remove #{t.name} tag"}), :url => {:action => 'remove_old_tag_from_question', :tag_remove => t.id, :current_question => current_question}} But I get this error on the link_to_remote line: ActionView::TemplateError (undefined local variable or method `current_question' for #<ActionView::Base:0xdb2fec8>) In _old_question_tags.haml, if I just print current_question (using =current_question), it prints the number without any problems. How do I properly pass that value to the partial so that I can pass it to the link_to_remote call?

  • Sorcery/Capybara: Cannon log in with :js => true

    I've been using capybara for a while, but I'm new to sorcery. I have a very odd problem whereby if I run the specs without Capybara's :js = true functionality I can log in fine, but if I try to specify :js = true on a spec, username/password cannot be found. Here's the authentication macro: module AuthenticationMacros def sign_in user = FactoryGirl.create(:user) user.activate! visit new_sessions_path fill_in 'Email Address', :with => user.email fill_in 'Password', :with => 'foobar' click_button 'Sign In' user end end Which is called in specs like this: feature "project setup" do include AuthenticationMacros background do sign_in end scenario "creating a project" do "my spec here" end The above code works fine. However, IF I change the scenario spec from (in this case) scenario "adding questions to a project" do to scenario "adding questions to a project", :js => true do login fails with an 'incorrect username/password' combination. Literally the only change is that :js = true. I'm using the default capybara javascript driver. (Loads up Firefox) Any ideas what could be going on here? I'm completely stumped. I'm using Capybara 2.0.1, Sorcery 0.7.13. There is no javascript on the sign in page and save_and_open_page before clicking 'sign in' confirms that the correct details are entered into the username/password fields. Any suggestions really appreciated - I'm at a loss.

    Hi, I was trying to use active record store but I kept getting an invalid authenticity token. Someone told me to remove my protect_from_forgery from application controller. I know that this would remove all auth tokens but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Does active record store not need auth tokens? By the way, all I need is a way to dynamically calculate the number of users online and their session variables. If there is a better way than using active record store it would be nice to know.
