    I can write: update my_table set xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/b', '1') where document_id = 123 Now what if in the same update query I also want to set /a/c to 2 (in addition /a/b to 1)? I am tempted to write: update my_table set xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/b', '1'), xml = updateXML(xml, '/a/c', '2') where document_id = 123 But this give me a "ORA-00957: duplicate column name". Any suggestion on how to do this?

    Hello - I know this can't be too difficult, but I've tried everything I can think of and cannot get it to work. I need to compare the value of a column (LASTNAME) with a system variable (:VARIABLE), but the variable is an email address, so I need to trim off the "@email.com" and "firstname." Some things I've tried: select * from TABLENAME where LASTNAME LIKE :VARIABLE select * from TABLENAME where LASTNAME IN :VARIABLE I've been able to trim off the @email.com, can't figure out how to trim off FIRSTNAME. at the same time.     My main goal with this question is optimization and faster run time. After doing lot of processing in the Stored Proc I finally return a count like below: OPEN cv_1 FOR SELECT COUNT(*) num_of_members FROM HOUSEHOLD_MEMBER a, HOUSEHOLD b WHERE RTRIM(LTRIM(a.mbr_last_name)) LIKE v_MBR_LAST_NAME || '%' AND a.number = '01' AND a.code = v_CODE AND a.ssn_head = v_SSN_HEAD AND TO_CHAR( a.mbr_dob, 'MM/DD/YYYY') = v_DOB; But in my code that is calling the SP does not need the actual count. It just cares that count is greater than 1. Question: How can I change this to return just 1 or 0. 1 when count is 0 and 0 when count 1. Will it be faster to do this rather than returning the whole count?

  • How do I display a field's hidden characters in the result of a query in Oracle?

    I have two rows that have a varchar column that are different according to a Java .equals(). I can't easily change or debug the Java code that's running against this particular database but I do have access to do queries directly against the database using SQLDeveloper. The fields look the same to me (they are street addresses with two lines separated by some new line or carriage feed/new line combo). Is there a way to see all of the hidden characters as the result of a query?I'd like to avoid having to use the ascii() function with substr() on each of the rows to figure out which hidden character is different. I'd also accept some query that shows me which character is the first difference between the two fields.

    i need to copy the tables and data (about 5 yrs data, 6200 tables) stored in sqlserver, i am using datastage and odbc connection to connect and datstage automatically creates the table with data, but its taking 2-3 hours per table as tables are very large(0.5 gig, 300+columns and about 400k rows). How can i achieve this the fastes as at this rate i am able to only copy 5 tables per day but within 30 days i need move over these 6000 tables.
