  • (Oracle Performance) Will a query based on a view limit the view using the where clause?

    In Oracle (10g), when I use a View (not Materialized View), does Oracle take into account the where clause when it executes the view? Let's say I have: MY_VIEW = SELECT * FROM PERSON P, ORDERS O WHERE P.P_ID = O.P_ID And I then execute the following: SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234' When this executes, does oracle first execute the query for the view and THEN filter it based on my where clause (where MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234') or does it do this filtering as part of the execution of the view? If it does not do the latter, and P_ID had an index, would I also lose out on the indexing capability since Oracle would be executing my query against the view which doesn't have the index rather than the base table which has the index?

  • Eclipse (Springsource Tool Suite 2.3.1) can't resolve dependencies for classes in the same package

    This started happening when I upgraded my Springsource Toolsuite from 2.3 to 2.3.1. Essentially whenever I do anything, such as open a file, change a file, etc, I have to do a clean. Everything works fine when I do mvn commands on the command line, which leads me to believe that Eclipse is looking in the wrong place for compiled code or something along those lines, although that is entirely superstitious at this point. Example: I make a change to com.foo.mypackage.MyClass. Suddenly a bunch of tests that excercise MyClass get the red x - for class not found! In src/main/test: com.foo.DbUnitTest com.foo.mypackage.FooTest extends DbUnitTest DbUnitTest gets a class not found. I do a clean, and everything is fine. I touch something, and it breaks again :(. I don't really know where to begin on how to troubleshoot this.

    I'm learning fossil and trying to reproduce a workflow for two people modifying the same source code tree. So, Alice and Bob both have local repositories of some source code. Both have autosync off. Alice hacks some more, does some commits signing check-ins with her gpg key. This part is fine, as Alice I've managed to generate gpg keys, fossil asked me the key password when commiting. I'm also aware of gpg-agent but don't use it yet, because I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible for now. Now, at some point Bob pulls changes from Alice's fossil repo. How would he verify Alice's signed check-ins?

    I'd like to know why most Banks or Financial companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their core systems (the absolutely minimum features that a Bank must support). I found a few answers that didn't satisfy me. For example: Oracle has more features. But features for what? Can't you implement that in application level if you were not using Oracle? Could someone please describe a bit more technical but still on high-level overview of what the bank needs and how Oracle would solve it and the others can't or don't have the features yet? I came from the web-app (web 2.0) crowd who normally hear news about MySQL, PostgreSQL or even key-value/column-oriented storage solution.     We have spring 3.0.x based application, we use SimpleMappingExceptionResolver which sends emails on an exception, when the exception happens within the DispatcherServlet. This gives us following flexibility: Subject can include who the logged in user is, so that we can send personalized email to the user Subject also includes the server on which the error occurred The request params, request url, and headers -- helped us find some problems when search engine indexing the site. However, lately we have been finding the exceptions have been occurring in the filters, and since this is not going through the Resolver, we dont get any emails. We dont like the log4j email appender solution, and not writing another filter to send emails seems right. Is there an accepted pattern to resolve this issue

  • Oracle why does creating trigger fail when there is a field called timestamp?

    I've just wasted the past two hours of my life trying to create a table with an auto incrementing primary key bases on this tutorial, The tutorial is great the issue I've been encountering is that the Create Target fails if I have a column which is a timestamp and a table that is called timestamp in the same table... Why doesn't oracle flag this as being an issue when I create the table? Here is the Sequence of commands I enter: Creating the Table: CREATE TABLE myTable (id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY, field1 TIMESTAMP(6), timeStamp NUMBER, ); Creating the Sequence: CREATE SEQUENCE test_sequence START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1; Creating the trigger: CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER test_trigger BEFORE INSERT ON myTable REFERENCING NEW AS NEW FOR EACH ROW BEGIN SELECT test_sequence.nextval INTO :NEW.ID FROM dual; END; / Here is the error message I get: ORA-06552: PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated ORA-06553: PLS-320: the declaration of the type of this expression is incomplete or malformed Any combination that does not have the two lines with a the word "timestamp" in them works fine. I would have thought the syntax would be enough to differentiate between the keyword and a column name. As I've said I don't understand why the table is created fine but oracle falls over when I try to create the trigger... CLARIFICATION I know that the issue is that there is a column called timestamp which may or may not be a keyword. MY issue is why it barfed when I tried to create a trigger and not when I created the table, I would have at least expected a warning. That said having used Oracle for a few hours, it seems a lot less verbose in it's error reporting, Maybe just because I'm using the express version though. If this is a bug in Oracle how would one who doesn't have a support contract go about reporting it? I'm just playing around with the express version because I have to migrate some code from MySQL to Oracle.

    I want to remove a GWT event handler the first time I receive an event. I also want to avoid polluting my class with tracking registration objects that aren't really necessary. Is there a better way to do this without adding variables to my class?

    I'm trying to find a cleaner alternative (that is idiomatic to Scala) to the kind of thing you see with data-binding in WPF/silverlight data-binding - that is, implementing INotifyPropertyChanged. First, some background: In .Net WPF or silverlight applications, you have the concept of two-way data-binding (that is, binding the value of some element of the UI to a .net property of the DataContext in such a way that changes to the UI element affect the property, and vise versa. One way to enable this is to implement the INotifyPropertyChanged interface in your DataContext. Unfortunately, this introduces a lot of boilerplate code for any property you add to the "ModelView" type.   • php with oracle 9i

    Hi everyone, I am new in php with oracle. Trying to connect with oracle by php. But have no success. I have installed xammp since i had to work with mysql. And now i have to use oracle 9i (9.2.0.6). Now if i use -- oci_connect(username, password, servicename) -- It says undefined function oci_connect(); Can any one tell how to configure xammpp for oracle? Thanks in advance
