  • Drawing lattices online

    This isn't really a programming question but... Is there any way to draw online a lattice for a material, like a compound? i.e. a 3D gridlike pattern? I know there are some applications for drawing mathematical lattices, but the notation to me is unfamiliar - are there simply programs or applets or something for drawing lattices like in a compound?

  • jumping lines in a file using c

    hello i am trying to sort a textual file using c programming language, in order to sort the file i am using a unique key, i need to be able to jump from line to line in order to sort the file , the problem is that i do not know if there is a command in c which let me jump from the first line to lets say the 20 line for example the only solution which i know for it is to use each time fscanf with a loop but this solution is not very effective thanks in advance for your time.

  • Removing the transperancy from image while keeping the actual image

    Hello people, I have three images,and , they are not square or rectangular in shape. They are just like face of anyone. So,basically, my images are in the size 196x196 or anything like that, but complete square or rectangle with the face in the middle and transperant background in the rest of the portion. Now, I want to remove the transperant background too and just keep the faces. Don't know if this is possible and mind you, this isn't a programming question.

  • Is Odersky serious with "bills !*&^%~ code!" ?

    In his book programming in scala (Chapter 5 Section 5.9 Pg 93) Odersky mentioned this expression "bills !*&^%~ code! In the footnote on same page: "By now you should be able to figure out that given this code,the Scala compiler would invoke (bills.!*&^%~(code)).!()." That's a bit to cryptic for me, could someone explain what's going on here?

  • Do you think it's a good idea to create a login box as a user control?

    Hi there guys! I'm starting out learning some ASP.Net programming and I'm going to be making a little community website for my friends and myself. I'm trying to pick up some good habits along the way. I was thinking of having a usercontrol and have that 'loginBox' shows the appropriate textboxes and login button, but also show his username when he is logged in. Do you think I should handle this as a user control or am I missing something as an ASP.Net newbie?

After having done a bit of C programming and getting comfortable with the language, I wanted to look under the hood and see what the compiler is doing for the code that I write. This is very strange. And then it is copying 'i' into 'eax' and doing things that are beyond me. I have heard that the compiler implements some jump table for switch..case. Is it what this code is doing? Or what is it doing and why? Because in case of less number of cases, the code is pretty similar to that generated for if...else ladder, but when number of cases increases, this unusual-looking implementation is seen. This means that programs in a pipeline can be interactive;" How can programs run at same time? For ex: $ who | grep mary | wc -l How grep mary will be executed until who is run or how wc -l will be executed until it knows results of previous programs?

In the same book was described a way to enumerate classes that can extend class or trait in multiple files. I have forgotten it and can't find again. Remind it to me, please.

  • Where can I find a good software implementation plan template?

    This is not "programming" related as much as it is "software engineering" related. I am required to produce an implementation for additional functionality to a complete system. All I am armed with is knowledge of the existing architecture and a functional spec with visual requirements, user stories and use cases. Is there a standardised way to go about this? I suck at documentation.
