  Hi. I have a large application, part of which relies on a set of 3 webservices. I'm currently in the process of writing an Ant build script to build and package the application into an EAR file. When building the web sub-project for this application I use the <jwsc> task in Ant to compile the webservices. error at build time, and a day of google searching has turned up other instances of this error caused by different triggers, and solutions for those propblems didn't work for me. I also found a single report on the Oracle forums that seemed to be a carbon copy of this issue, but there were no replies. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

• Rewind request body stream

  I am re-implementing a request logger as Owin Middleware which logs the request url and body of all incoming requests. I am able to read the body, but if I do the body parameter in my controller is null. I'm guessing it's null because the stream position is at the end so there is nothing left to read when it tries to deserialize the body. I had a similar issue in a previous version of Web API but was able to set the Stream position back to 0. This particular stream throws a This stream does not support seek operations exception. In the most recent version of Web API 2.0 I could call Request.HttpContent.ReadAsStringAsync()inside my request logger, and the body would still arrive to the controller in tact. • Web Service Exception Handling

  I have a Winforms app that consumes a C# Webservice. If the WebService throws an Exception my Client app always get's a SoapException instead of the "real" Exception. • Handling async ASMX web service exceptions

  Hi, I've developed silverlight client with makes async web services calls to a asmx web service. The problem is, I want to handle exceptions, so far as to be able to tell in the client application whether there was an exception in the webservice (and therefore will be logged local to the webservice) or whether there was a communication problem (i.e. the endpoint for the webservice was wrong). In testing both types of exceptions in my project I get the same generic exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: The remote server returned an error: NotFound. This exception is amazingly useless when an exception occured in the webservice as it clearly has been found. Is the presence of this generic error to do with security (not being allowed to see true errors)? It can't be the fact that I don't have debug strings as I'm running on a dev PC. Either way, my question is, what's the best way to handle async errors in a commercial silverlight application? Any links or ideas are most welcome! :) Thanks a lot! Andy.

• Visual Studio 2008 Web Project error: Unable to start program http://localhost:port

  I am re-hashing this question because I have looked at over 50 threads in different forums and have not been able to get a resolution to my problem. Here are the specs: Windows XP SP3, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, .NET 3.5, ASP. NET MVC 2 project, IE 7 (was IE 8) Up until a few days ago I was not having any issues. It is now happening on any solution that I try to debug. I start a debug session (F5), the solution rebuilds, a VS development web server starts and then I get this error: Unable to start program http://localhost:2012/ If I open a web browser and enter the URL the application loads up. I had upgraded to IE 8 a few weeks ago and read there may be some issues so it has been uninstalled and I am currently on IE 7. Also, while IE 8 was installed I had switched my default browser to Firefox but my current default broweser is now IE7. I have reveiewed the threads on this site and others and have not been able to fix the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

  To enable single sign-on for a web application and a web application in a virtual directory, I set the machinekey in both apps to the same: <machineKey validationKey="xxx" decryptionKey="yy" validation="SHA1" /> The single sign on works just fine, but existing users can't sign in any more; their passwords are rejected. The machinekey used to be this in the parent application: <machineKey validationKey="xxx,IsolateApps" decryptionKey="yy,IsolateApps" validation="SHA1" /> I tried other ways to make single sign on work, but it just won't as long as the keys contain "IsolateApps". What am I missing? I should add that the in the membership provider, passwordFormat is set to "Encrypted". So I assume the password was encrypted using the key that contained "IsolateApps" and now when it tries to validate the password it's using the key without the "IsolateApps". Still not sure how to solve that problem. Is there maybe a way that I can set the encryption keys for the password separately from the one that is used for the authentication cookie?

  I'm relatively new to web services, but I need to integrate a call to an existing service in my application. Ideally, I'd like to use JAX-WS because I'm looking for the simplest, quickest-to-develop solution on my end, and MyEclipse is able to generate a JAX-WS client from a WSDL. Unfortunately, the WSDL I've inherited was built from what appears to be Axis using RPC. Will this still work?   Hi. We are trying to load a pdf file in web browser using pdfobject javascript api. Currently the size of the pdf's that we are trying to display is close to 10MBs. This creates a long delay in displaying a PDF on web page; while the complete PDF gets downloaded. We need to remove this lag by achieving either of the alternatives: Show a progress bar until the PDF is actually displayed. We couldn't find an event which is triggered and can be used to find out if pdf is visible now. This lacking doesn't let us decide when to stop showing progress bar/spinner OR lazy load the PDF such that it gets displayed as soon as first page gets loaded. With that ateast user will have a visual indication as to something is happening. We couldn'find anything in pdf object that lets us do a lazy load. User alternative pdf rendering api; this is a low priority as we already have complete code in place; but in an event of first 2 alternatives not being met; we'd have to consider this option. So please feel free to suggest. Any other ideas as to how user interaction can be made more intuitive or pleasant; would be welcome. Cheers

Weird thing is that if I use the code generated from the other server against the weird server everything works fine. It is only Wsdl2Java that is giving me a problem.

• Getting started with Spring 3 Web MVC - Setting everything up

  Hi, I'm trying to get started with JAVA/Eclipse/Spring MVC but can't seem to find a "dummies" or "step-by-step" guide for setting everything up and creating the simplest proof-of-concept application. I found http://static.springsource.org/docs/...-step-by-step/ but there seem to be differences between Spring 2.5 and Spring 3 so i'm looking for something for Spring 3. Also, the tutorial for Spring 2.5 focuses on building the application usign Ant - This i will certainly be doing for releasing but when working within Eclipse i want to have set up the project so that i can use breakpoints/debugging and this is not covered at all. I've downloaded Eclipse, Tomcat and the Spring 3 Framework but that's about it and within the downloaded Spring Framework documentation it states: 2.3 New getting started tutorial There is now a new getting started tutorial for developing a basic Spring 3.0 MVC web application. This tutorial is a separate document that can be found at the Spring Documentation page However, i can't seem to find such a tutorial on the linked page. My main problem at the moment, as seems to be the case for many people trying to get started with Spring, is that i can't seem to get everything set up. I've got a copy of Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow and i've also found this tutorial but i don't know if the setups they describe are still relevant and whether they will allow debugging.   I have an iphone (jqtouch based) web app that uses cookies for authentication. The use flow is as follows : user goes to the mobile landing page and is instructed to save the page as a bookmarklet on their home page. they launch the bookmarklet to go to a login page to login and get a cookie. the cookie works and they can navigate throughout the web site. However this session cookie is not persistent. If they leave safari and then restart using the saved bookmarklet, the cookies set during their previous session are gone. Just using safari (ie: launch safari directly rather than through the bookmarklet) to navigate the pages works fine (ie: start safari, go to url, do login, restart safari, go back to url). I find that that the cookies that were active when the bookmarklet was created are persistent but any cookies set during the session when safari is accessed through the bookmarklet are not persistent. I'm wondering if this is a safari/iphone issue and/or if there is any way around this. Many thanks for any insight you can provide.

• Storing a digital signature for bookings on a web based system

  I have a web based bookings system built for a UK higher education client to allow students to sign out equipment (laptops, camera's etc). It's been in use successfully for a couple of years, in the current workflow equipment is collected and the booking is printed, signed by the student and kept until the equipment is returned. They are emailed a pdf copy of the booking and reminders if equipment is outstanding. Students can login and prebook equipment using their university LDAP credentials, the booking is then authorised by staff for later collection, but can also walk in and have equipment booked out by staff. They would like to remove the signed paper part of the process and replace this with some sort of digital signature. The suggestion was a graphics tablet but with a web based system this would require a local software package and in my view be impractical. My thought is that students would enter their LDAP username and password upon collection of the equipment, verifying their identity and effectively digitally signing the booking. My question is what would be best to store as a signature or whether to simply authenticate the user and use a boolean flag to indicate that this has been done could be deemed sufficient?

• Mocking WebResponse's from a WebRequest

  I have finally started messing around with creating some apps that work with RESTful web interfaces, however, I am concerned that I am hammering their servers every time I hit F5 to run a series of tests.. Basically, I need to get a series of web responses so I can test I am parsing the varying responses correctly, rather than hit their servers every time, I thought I could do this once, save the XML and then work locally. However, I don't see how I can "mock" a WebResponse, since (AFAIK) they can only be instantiated by WebRequest.GetResponse How do you guys go about mocking this sort of thing? Do you? I just really don't like the fact I am hammering their servers :S I dont want to change the code too much, but I expect there is a elegant way of doing this.. Update Following Accept Will's answer was the slap in the face I needed, I knew I was missing a fundamental point! Create an Interface that will return a proxy object which represents the XML. Implement the interface twice, on that uses WebRequest, the other that returns static "responses". The interface implmentation then either instantiates the return type based on the response, or the static XML. You can then pass the required class when testing or at production to the service layer. Once I have the code knocked up, I'll paste some samples. Thanks Will :)

• Disable Return key outside textareas on a Asp.Net web page (containing ajax code)

  Hi, I have an Asp.Net web page, having the common Asp.Net form. The outer "border" of the page (i.e. main menu, header, ...) is build using normal Asp.Net code using a master page. The content of that page uses jQuery to display dynamic forms and to send data to the server. If I push the return key on that page, I jump to a (more or less) random page - which is not what the user expects. ;-) There are some text areas and the user must be able to enter line breaks. Otherwise it would be fine to disable the return key completely. Any bullet proof way to do that? I found some solutions on the web, which capture the keypress event and ignore \x13, but that does not really work. It works as long as the page has just loaded, but as soon as I have clicked on some elements, the return key behaves as usuall. Any hint would be really appreciated! Achim

The trouble is, to call it is quite convuluted: var cache = new Cache<MyObject>(Page.Cache, CachedKeys.MyKey); MyObject myObject = null; if(!cache.TryGetFromCache(out myObject)){ //get data... cache.AddToCache(data); //add to cache return data; } return myObject; I only store one instance of each of my objects in the cache. Therefore, is there any way that I can create an extension method that accepts the type of object to Cache and uses (via Reflection) its Name as the cache key? public static Cache<T> GetCache(this Cache cache, Type cacheType){ Cache<cacheType> Cache = new Cache<cacheType>(cache, cacheType.Name); } Of course, there's two errors here: Extension methods must be defined in a non-generic static class The type or namespace name 'cacheType' could not be found This is clearly not the right approach but I thought I'd show my working. • OCS presence in SharePoint AJAX-based web part

  I'm currently implementing AJAX-based web part which displays search result. This search result has user names and opposite to each name I'm rendering the OCS presence indicator. This indicator works fine in IE6 but I can't get it to work in IE7/8. Basically the problem in IE7/8 is that OCS is rendered but when you mouse over it nothing is shown. If you try to scroll page down then mouse over the OCS icon you will see the OCS actions menu in the bottom of the page instead of seeing it on the opposite to the user name. My AJAX-based web part uses jQuery post method to make a request to the server and receives json which is then rendered to the div. My HTML for the user name looks like this: <nobr> <span> <a target='_blank' href='/ViewExpert.aspx?uid=4'>Some Expert</a> <img height='1' width='3' border='0' alt='' src='/_layouts/images/blank.gif'><a class='ms-imnlink' onclick='IMNImageOnClick();return false;' href='javascript:'> <img height='12' width='12' border='0' id='3' ShowOfflinePawn='1' type='smtp' sip='[email protected]' src='/_layouts/images/blank.gif' valign='middle' name='imnmark' alt='No presence information' title=''> </a> </span> </nobr> After the HTML above is rendered on the page I call the following two lines of code: //have to reset this value, otherwise ProcessImn() fails after next AJAX request imnCount = 0; ProcessImn(); Any ideas why it doesn't work in IE7/8?
