• Enterprise Manager Extensibility Exchange – Version 1.1 Now Available!

  Since its announcement at Oracle OpenWorld 2012, the Enterprise Manager Extensibility Exchange is becoming the source to access Enterprise Manager entities, including plug-ins, connectors, deployment procedures, assemblies, templates, and more.  Based on feedback, the Exchange has recently been updated so Enterprise Manager administrators can find and access Oracle and partner-built plug-ins and connectors easier. The Exchange enables anyone to contribute an Enterprise Manager entity through the “Contribute” tab, where information about the entity is captured and placed on the Exchange once it is approved.  The Exchange encourages comment through the Enterprise Manager Forum.  An Oracle partner can build a plug-in by accessing the Extensibility Development Kit (EDK) found at the Development Resources tab.  Oracle partners and customers can can also engage a partner that has built its practice specializing in plug-in development and deployment.  One of those partners is Blue Medora, which has effectively used the EDK to build plug-ins to manage non-Oracle targets.  Next week Blue Medora will be a "Guest Blogger" and tell a great story about heterogeneous datacenter management.Partners can also have their plug-ins validated through the Oracle Validated Integration (OVI) program.  NetApp is an example of a partner that recently built an Enterprise Manager plug-in and has validated it through the program.  Check back here in two weeks for their blog post describing the value of an Enterprise Manager "OVI" plug-in as well as discuss specifics the NetApp storage plug-in.  Check out the NetApp Enterprise Manager Validated Integration datasheet in the meantime. • Putting DSMD into Remission

  As a programmer with over ten years of professional experience, I've often suffered from DSMD (distraction surplus/motivation deficit) disorder. I know I'm not alone. Many of my colleagues have shared their experiences with this productivity cancer to me in support groups or in moments of inebriated intimacy. Often, I observe friends unknowingly surrendering to it - sitting at their computer, cycling through the same set of web sites (blogs, facebook, youtube, news providers, wikipeida, etc.), over and over again. Intermittently, they get up, take a walk around the office, make small talk with their colleagues, get another cup of coffee, then sit down and start the cycle all over again. It is completely controlled by the subconscious mind and will destroy your ability to get into that groove you used to live in back in your better days. Programming requires extended periods of focused attention, and this type of behavior will really kill productivity and in the end, when deadlines are near, launch your stress level to near emotional breakdown levels.DiagnosisThe best way to diagnose infection is to completely disconnect your devices from the internet while working. If you find yourself launching web browsers every minute or so, then you're down with the sickness.TreatmentA few techniques I've found that will help send this ailment into regression are as follows:Segment your day into two to three hour work segments. For example: 9:00-11:00, 1:00-3:00, 3:30-5:00.Define a few small one to two hour tasks you want to accomplish in your day. Assign each of those tasks to one of the short work segments.If possible, turn off the internet and any other distractions during these work segments (at least until you regain control of your browsing habits) - this includes instant messaging and email. You can check your email and waste time surfing in the hours between work segments.Reward yourself on productive days with a beer or whatever butters your muffins.

• Interpolation between two 3D points?

  I'm working with some splines which define a path a character follows (you can see a gameplay video here to get a better understanding of what's going on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BndobjOiZ6g). Basically the characters 'forward' look direction is set to the 'forward' direction of the spline and when players tilt their phone left and right the character is strafed along its 'right' coordinate. The issue with this is (rather obviously) in performance, interpolating over a spline to find the nearest position and tangent relative to the player is an incredibly costly operation. To get by this I cache a finite number of positions in what I call 'SplineDetails', the class is as follows: public class SplineDetails { public SplineDetails() { Forward = Vector3.forward; Position = Vector3.one * float.MaxValue; Alpha = -1; } public float Alpha; // [0,1] measured along length of spline where 0 is the initial point and 1 is the end point of the spline public Vector3 Position; // the point of the spline at this alpha public Vector3 Forward; // the forward tangent of the spline at this alpha } I populate this with say 30 coordinates and I can give a rough estimate of a coordinate and 'forward' based on a position past in. It's not as accurate but it's much faster. But now I'd like to make the system work better by estimating positions and 'forward' directions by interpolating between two of the cached points though I'm stuck trying to figure out some logic. My first problem is, how can I determine between which two points the object is? Given each point can be placed at different intervals along the spline it could mean that two points in front or behind the object can be closer to the object. The other problem is to figure out the proportion between the two paths it's between, i.e. if there is a point a at coordinate (0,0,0) and point b at coordinate (1,0,0) if the object is at position (0.5,0,0) then the result it should give is '0.5' (as it is equal distance away from point a and point b). That's a simple example, but what if the object is at coordinate (0.5,3,0) for example?

• Logitech C510 HD Webcam related question

  I am going to buy Logitech C510 HD webcam and I just checked on other questions here on AskUbuntu that it works out of the box with cheese. My question is can it be limited in any functionality that I would like to do with it? I would like it to be used with everything - Skype, Gtalk video chat, Facebook, Youtube etc I would like the ability to record or do a video call in lesser resolution video (its a 720p one). Also since I read that I should have a Core2Duo 2.2Ghz for 720p but I have a 2.0Ghz one, would it be possible for me to first record it and then encode it after recording if my processor really start giving issue when doing on-the-fly encoding? Anything else that I should consider? I also have a ATI HD 4850 512MB card, if it can help in encoding on-the-fly or is there a chance that my graphics card alone can handle it and those specs were just for a system without a graphics card? I believe so. Also, I got no worries in dealing with console, if I have to do some of the things above in terminal. Other possible significant details: I have a dual screen setup 29" (1360X768) & 22" (1680X1050) which might be using some good power from GPU and I have 2GB DDR2 800Mhz RAM.

• ksoftirqd uses 100% cpu

  I am running 32bit Ubuntu 10.04. A lot of the times ksoftirqd/0 or ksoftirqd/1 start using up 100% CPU for no apparent reason, and I am forced to reboot my laptop. Incidentally this also happens when I maximize my (youtube) videos on Chrome and Fireox, but once I un-maximize the videos the CPU usage goes down to the original levels. Any ideas what it going on? --- Addendum --- dmesg produces a ~2000 line output. • Oracle OpenWorld Highlights

  We are in the final days of Oracle OpenWorld 2012 and the data integration team have been hard at work giving sessions, meeting customers, demonstrating product and conducting hands-on labs.    It has been a great conference, but the best part is meeting our customers and learning about all the great implementations of our products.  Wednesday was the last day that the exhibition hall was open and attendees were getting in their final opportunities to see our products and meet with the product management team.   Two hours before the close of the hall, people lined up to learn about GoldenGate 11gR2, Monitor, Adapters, Veridata, and all the different use cases.    Here's a picture of Sjaak Vossepoel, who is our DIS Sales Consulting Manager for EMEA speaking to a potential customer on the options of using Oracle GoldenGate for heterogenous data replication.  Over the last two days, the GoldenGate team ran two labs; Introduction to Oracle GoldenGate Veridata and Deep Dive into Oracle GoldenGate.   Both of the labs were completely booked out and unfortunately we had to turn away people.   BUT,  all of our labs were recorded recently so if you were not able to get into the lab or did not have enough time to complete your labs, visit youtube.com/oraclegoldengate to see a  complete recording of the labs we used at OpenWorld plus more.  Here are a couple pictures from the Deep Dive into Oracle GoldenGate lead by Chis Lawless from the Product Management team.   Thanks to the GoldenGate Hands-on Lab team for putting on a great session!!! • Missing launcher after 12.04 upgrade

  I recently upgraded to ubuntu 12.04 and after doing some updates and such my application launcher and title bars (for window dialogues) are missing. Basically the entire unity GUI is missing! Not sure what happened so I installed gnome 3 and it was missing a launcher too, but did have title bars. In addition the bar found at the top that lets you know what's open and allows gnome extensions to be displayed is not interactive. I can't click, right click, alt + click (right or left), alt + super click (right or left) anywhere! I even installed an application menu from the gnome site and it is not interactive either. However, since there is no way to launch applications i have to use terminal and if i minimize an app it will disappear completely. Then i decided to try unity 2D and it is incredibly messed up. Black background, launcher is there but icons and top bar while on desktop are completely distorted. They're not just pixalated; they're all sorts of funky colors and when i open something from unity 2d launcher it will show it's opened in the launcher but nothing appears on my screen. When trying to view videos on youtube the video is distorted and looks just as unity 2d does. Strange enough: the audio works fine, just not videos. Pictures loads, but not ads that stream video. Any suggestions to get my launcher and the unity GUI back? I tried reinstalling gnome, unity 3d, and unity 2d from terminal. no change. also reinstalled unity desktop and tried resetting it: nothing happened.

• Why are my backlinks not showing on google on this asp.net website with all I've done?

  I recently implemented many SEO techniques for a company on their asp.net website; in 6 months, we jumped from a PR1 to a PR3. But I'm having issues with google backlinking. Here are some of the things I've done: Not only did I set up their own Google+ page 6 months ago, I update it pretty much daily with links, pictures, etc., and I blog about it on my own personal Google+ page and post links, etc. ... They have their own Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and all are updated almost daily. I've listed in as many quality, relevant directories as possible 6 months ago; I've avoided link farms. The site is solid SEO-wise. Key-phrase rich URLs, schema.org & rich snippets. No duplicate content ... www or non-www 301's, trailing slashes, etc. ... all taken care of. Probably a ton of other things, but basically, the site is all set, SEO-wise. Here's what's confounding: When I do a link:www.example.com in Bing/Yahoo, it shows many backlinks. When I do a link:www.example.com in google, it shows up 0 links. Or when I use a site-ranker like Web Site Rank Tool it's showing 0 backlinks from Google. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

• problems texture mapping in modern OpenGL 3.3 using GLSL #version 150

  Hi all I'm trying to do texture mapping using Modern OpenGL and GLSL 150. • M-Audio Delta starts up at wrong sample rate

  When the PC starts my M-Audio Delta 66 is using 48000kHz sampling rate when it is set for 44100 in Envy24. This causes audio to play slower than it should. This is in Kubuntu 14.04 on my new PC using an AMD A8 6500 with 8GB. When I first installed it seemed okay, but at some point it went wrong and has been doing this consistently since then. Kernel is 3.13.0-24-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 2 23:31:42 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux steve@slarti:~$ cat /proc/asound/card2/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED format: S32_LE subformat: STD channels: 10 rate: 48000 (48000/1) period_size: 441 buffer_size: 3528 I can get it to switch to 44100 if I disable/enable the Delta in Pulseaudio volume control, but I have to do this every day and the sound still seems distorted. I can't see any issues in any of the config or log files I can find. If I boot the PC with a Mint Live USB it starts at 44100 and sound fine. • Name of the Countdown Numbers round problem - and algorithmic solutions?

  For the non-Brits in the audience, there's a segment of a daytime game-show where contestants have a set of 6 numbers and a randomly generated target number. They have to reach the target number using any (but not necessarily all) of the 6 numbers using only arithmetic operators. All calculations must result in positive integers. An example: Youtube: Countdown - The Most Extraordinary Numbers Game Ever? A detailed description is given on Wikipedia: Countdown (Game Show) For example: The contentant selects 6 numbers - two large (possibilities include 25, 50, 75, 100) and four small (numbers 1 .. 10, each included twice in the pool). The numbers picked are 75, 50, 2, 3, 8, 7 are given with a target number of 812. One attempt is (75 + 50 - 8) * 7 - (3 * 2) = 813 (This scores 7 points for a solution within 5 of the target) An exact answer would be (50 + 8) * 7 * 2 = 812 (This would have scored 10 points exactly matching the target). Obviously this problem has existed before the advent of TV, but the Wikipedia article doesn't give it a name. I've also saw this game at a primary school I attended where the game was called "Crypto" as an inter-class competition - but searching for it now reveals nothing. I took part in it a few times and my dad wrote an Excel spreadsheet that attempted to brute-force the problem, I don't remember how it worked (only that it didn't work, what with Excel's 65535 row limit), but surely there must be an algorithmic solution for the problem. Maybe there's a solution that works the way human cognition does (e.g. in-parallel to find numbers 'close enough', then taking candidates and performing 'smaller' operations).

• How to Effectively Create Bullet Patterns

  I'm currently creating a top-down shooter like Touhou. The most important factor of the game is that there are many diverse patterns and ways at which bullets are generated and shot at the player, see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1Sg#start=0:60;end=9:53; At the moment, I'm using a class "Pattern" which has a series of steps on moving and shooting. However, I feel this method is quite laborous as I have to create a new Pattern for each attack and perhaps new Bullet classes that will implement a certain behavior. This question received a comment suggesting I should look into BulletML for easy creation and storage of bullets with a specific pattern. It looks decent, but it led me to wonder, what other solutions do you have that I should take into consideration? Update My current design is as follows: An example of an implemented pattern: My GigasPattern first executes a teleport which moves Alice to a certain point (X, Y) on the screen. After this is completed, the pattern starts using the Mover to move the sprite around (whereas teleporting has separate effects and animation). These are of no concern, really, as they are quite simple. The Shooter also creates various Attacks, which are classes again that the Shooter can use to create various patterns of bullets, much like the one in the question I posted. Once the Mover has reached it's destination, both it and the shooter stop and return to an inactive state. The pattern completes, is removed by the AI and a new one gets chosen.

• why doesn't my computer resume after sleeping overnight?

  i'm having a weird, weird bug that's been haunting me since 11.10. if i listen to music or watch a video and my computer automatically goes to sleep at night, it won't properly resume in the morning. otherwise, suspend and resume works just fine. what happens is that the wi-fi and bluetooth indicator (that turns from white to orange when suspending) stays orange, the display doesn't turn on, and the only option i have is to hard reset the machine. here's what i've tried so far: installing (and uninstalling and reinstalling) laptop-mode-tools switching the proprietary wireless driver (broadcom-wl) to the open source one (brcmsmac & bcma) and back unloading (and blacklisting) all bluetooth modules (rfcomm, btusb, bnep, bluetooth) and stopping (# stop bluetooth) and disabling (# echo 'manual' /etc/init/bluetooth.override) the bluetooth service creating a custom pm sleep action as suggested here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11926504 not watching youtube / any stuff that uses flash before going to sleep (i have flashblock, and i checked $ ps aux | grep flash) because i suspected flash to be the culprit trying out different versions of fglrx (the one from the repos, then installing the latest one from amd's site via generated .deb files, then back to the official ones) none of these worked. i remember back in the days of 10.04, there was a gconf key called network sleep: i thought about disabling that, since re-enabling the wireless card seems to be the problem (according to the indicator led), but the option appears to be missing from gnome 3 (unity-2d, whatever). does anyone have any ideas? thanks, bamdad

• Google Chrome on Ubuntu 12.04 not rendering webpages correctly

  I am facing some serious web page rendering issues with Chrome. It is more prominent during javascript based animations and stuff on websites like youtube. I have tried removing chrome using (sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable) and then reinstalling it. But the problems still persist. The same webpages work correctly on firefox on ubuntu and chrome on windows. The problem only shows up when I use chrome on ubuntu. I think the issue has started after I updated to the latest version of Chrome. I have used Chrome previously on this machine without any problems. I have attached a image that demonstrates the issue. What could possibly be the problem? As always, people want and need to make small adjustments, especially in the Cloud, and thankfully even in its first release there is good support for this. The main features are: Configuring the branding and look-and-feel (known as a theme) of the Simplified UI. Adding you own custom announcements to the Simplified UI homepage. Using Page Composer to edit component properties, such as re-label text or hiding unwanted fields. Using MDS Sandboxes to manage groups of related customizations. Using Application Composer to adjust the fields available in certain Simplified UI pages.
