• Change the audio output device in Firefox

  I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

• Does the mplayer-mozilla plugin have a problem with long DIVX videos or is this a problem with the U

  Pretty consistently when I'm watching a long DIVX movie in the browser on Karmic - say 2 hours or so - the mplayer-mozilla player stops after a half-hour or an hour and resets back to 0, so I have to reload the whole movie again over the web. It happens repeatedly so I never get past the half-way point in the DIVX version of the movie - I have to watch a flash version instead. I don't know if this is an mplayer issue or a Firefox memory issue. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

• Debugging an IP Camera

  Further to my previous question on ServerFault here, I finally can view the stream on RTSP however I still cannot view the camera stream in a web browser. The IP camera uses an activeX control in Internet Explorer. And although I can configure the camera settings from IE, I cannot view the stream it shows connecting for a few sec and shows disconnecting. I have forwarded the HTTP, RTSP and Stream ports of the IP camera. the public port is 7071 and private port is 7070. When I try to see the connections in TCPView it shows that the ActiveX control in IE is trying to connect to port 7070 which is quite unusual since it should connect to 7071 Also the state shows SYN_SENT for sometime and then disconnects. I have really no clue what's going on and why?

• Why does text look so Horrible on my HD monitor?

  I just bought a 1080p 22" Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD (connected via HDMI) and the picture and video quality is great but the text quality is absolutely horrible. This monitor has a built in HD TV tuner. Even as I type now all the text in this text box as well as in the browser toolbar and start menu, etc looks weird - like it all has a white outline around it that makes it jagged and hard to read. It hurts my eyes just to look at it. I am running my PC in the suggested native resolution of 1920x1080, so what's the problem? Is this one of the unavoidable downsides of using a HD monitor? Is there a solution to the problem?

  We have a domain abc.com from which a particular page will display the contents from the domain def.com which does not belong to us. Now rather than display def.com in the address bar in the browser, we would like to continue using abc.com. We would like to achieve it without using iframes or screen scraping. Is there a way to achieve what we are after using DNS forwarding or aliasing? If so how? We have a choice of using Microsoft's DNS server or BIND.

• Safari on Mac OS X lasts beyond Empty Cache

  So, I broke a website with some server changes oops. I roll back the changes I made, hit cmd-R, and oh noes, it is still broken. But I relax thinking, there must be something held in safari's cache so I press the handy 'Empty Cache' button. Hit cmd-R for refresh it is still broken. I'm really worried that I've done it and broken something bigtime. But first decide to check on a hand win xp computer, and voila it works. So the question is how do you "really" clear the cache w/o restart safari, I have many browser windows open a restart every time I make a server side change will ruin me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

• Internet Explorer 8 only running as process not application

  Internet Explorer 8 on XP SP3 starts without browser window. Task manager doesn't show application, but iexplore.exe is listed twice in process window. Process Explorer reports "no visible windows found for this process" when I try to "bring to front" in the iexplore.exe properties dialog. Have reinstalled (twice), full scanned with MBAM/MSSE/SpyBot etc, re-registered ieproxy.dll (another Google-inspired tip!), run without addons (-extoff switch), and still same problem. Recently uninstalled VMWare Player and wondered whether problem related to VM network adapter somehow, but Firefox still works perfectly. This is one of my home machines, not critical, and it is backed up, so I will restore if I have to. But any and all suggestions will be gratefully received. It would be nice to understand what might have happened, and perhaps others may benefit from any knowledge that comes to light.

  So, I can't use telnet to connect to any server but it works fine from a different computer. It just says it can't connect. I tried the following things: Disable firewall and AV protection. (Basically, there was no security feature left online) Telnet is set to "Trusted" in my AV protection. (Kaspersky Internet Security 2011) Using Putty to telnet, but apparently Putty's connection is also inhibited. (Says it can't connect to host) Disabling the telnet client in Control Panel and then re-enabling it. (Windows 7 Ultimate) hosts file is clean. Checked for nasties using MBAM and KIS 2011 as well as going though my HijackThis logs, nothing found. I can connect to the same machines/servers through the web browser, ping, tracert, etc. Only telnet seems to be blocked. Any other thoughts?

• Laptop connecting to Wifi but not to internet

  My friends laptop is able to connect to the wifi router . Typing 192.168.1.1 in the browser shows the login page for the router . But he cannot connect to the internet. This is true on both windows and linux (dual booting setup) . There are 3 other laptops connecting to the internet via wifi just fine and his was fine too until this happened all of a sudden . I tried doing a tracert from windows to an external ip . The first hop to the modem is fine but then the packets seem to be getting dropped . If his wifi adapter is damaged how is it connecting to the modem via wifi . I havent asked a question here before but this is really weird . If anyone needs any more information I shall post it here.

  I have a strange problem on Windows Vista (Automatic updates). Long time ago I had installed Firefox, Thunderbird, Safari and Opera and they all worked well. Once upon a time, after Windows restart, Firefox, Thunderbird and Safari won't start. [Opera (USB) works fine]. When I start the browser, program name is listed on the processes list, but it is not activated, doesn't show any window. I tried crating new profiles with -ProfileManager, restarting Windows, reinstalling the browsers. I scanned the system for suspected programs and it looks clean. There is 45GB of free HDD space. WTF?

Subnet 1 - PC 1 - NAS Subnet 2 - PC 2 PC 1 is able to do the following: - Load the admin page on the browser. - Show the NAS under Windows Explorer - Network. - Access the NAS when typed in \\ in Windows Explorer. PC 2 is unable to do any of the above 3. It can however ping the NAS and get a response.

When we add changes. How can we automate it. I may have some bunch of html files in multiple folders also in subdirectories.   I am renting a VPS with Debian installed running JBoss AS6 for my web app. I recently had some problems with my DNS hosts as they messed up the A-records for my domain which caused some new A-records to be added by mistake The DNS problem is now sorted and the domain is working ok, however I noticed that the web server no longer responds via direct IP or hostname in a web browser (although it pings ok and I can SSH in using the hostname ok) Is there any explanation for this? I am using rinetd to forward traffic from 80 to port 8080 but thats been ok for a while Any suggestions would be appreciated Regards

The server send to client 3KB of data, instead of traditional HTTP or SOCKS proxy, the server open multithreaded transfer with 3 connections, send 1KB of data per thread to each connection The client receives 1KBx3, and combine them to the original 3KB data, and return as a local HTTP proxy server. The client display the original data in browser via the local HTTP proxy The latency is not important as long as the transfer rate is good. Does any software like this exist? It's better if it's open source or free ones.

• PHP won't run on Fedora 15

  I have followed this exact tutorial on installing php on a Fedora 15 system. I have all the necessary packages installed with no errors. Yet the simple phpinfo() test page will show - it will show a blank page. When I try to see the source, I see it downloaded my .php file as plain text and loaded it in the browser. So I am guessing for some reason php module is not loaded in httpd. Does anyone have any idea why? P.S. I am really hoping SELinux this time has nothing to do with this!

• Why are applications slowing down on the computer's second monitor?

  Here's an interesting one. Problem I have a user on Windows XP who is running a web application inside IE8. She has two monitors plugged in via DVI cables. When she is working the the browser on her primary monitor, everything is fine, but when she drags the window over to the second monitor, the web applications functionality grinds to a halt. It's not just web apps either - many applications exhibit the problem. What I've tried Switching the two monitors in the OS. It's obviously not the monitor's fault. Confirmed that it's the app slowing down, and not the graphical rendering. The application in question actually locks up. The mouse is unaffected, and I can drag other windows on top of the problematic application. Any ideas?

  I have been using Apache Web Server for a while now and one thing I have noticed is that outside of my computer I can not access it. I use my Apache server for PHP development on my computer, but I would like to access stuff I have made outside of my computer. I am on a linksys router network. I usually run it of http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/. I IPCONFIGED my computer and got 192.168.1.105 so I went there with my browser and got the page just fine. I tried doing this on another computer on the same network but it didn't work. How do I fix this? Sorry about the bad wording.   How do tell an application to open in a specific workspace? More info: I like to have my C++ IDE in workspace 2, my Java IDE in workspace 3, and my email, browser and miscellaneous in workspace four. I also use a shell script that executes upon log in: #!/bin/bash gnome-terminal & # WS 1 netbeans-6-9-1 & # WS2 qtcreator-2-0-1 & # WS 3 firefox & # WS 4 thunderbird & # WS 4 Of course currently it all opens in the curent workspace...   I've a problem with my network. My Config: SVR01 (ws2008r2): DNS server and Domain Server SVR02 (ws2008r2): IIS (v7.5) Domain Clients In SVR02 there are many sites. When I try to connect on one site (such as: demo1.myhomesite.intra) the browser say "Internet Explor can not display the webpage". Well... In this case I found a workaround: unplug and plug the lan cable (or disable and enable wifi) in my client and the site work correctly. But this workaround is not a solution. Please, can you help me??

It's clear that this is not possible. Why do I get 127.0.0.1 as IP? cystat bug? some weird network trick I am not aware of? or is my website really running on an iPhone, and the guy at the applestore is reading my blog ?

• Using terminal vs KDE in linux?

  Im used to using nautilus within centos but have recently just got a VPS and quickly realising that using a KDE is unacceptable in this environment. Although I do find it so much quicker doing things like folder permissions in KDE rather than typing it all out in the terminal? Everyone I speak to says, use the terminal and I should learn this way as opposed to using the KDE, but theres certain things I just dont get How is it possible to make quick changes to scripts and viewing them in a browser etc , without a mouse or using KDE? and only using a terminal?? I am wondering how to develop websites just using the terminal??? How can it be quicker to type out/view permissions etc in the terminal when its instant and just a few clicks in the KDE? Any thoughts are much appreciated. I would love to understand the benefits but just cant seem to see them right now. Cheers Ke.

• Using gitlab behind Apache proxy all urls are wrong

  I've set up Gitlab on Ubuntu 12.04 using the default package from https://about.gitlab.com/downloads/ As I had Apache installed already I have to run nginx on localhost:8888. The problem is, all images (such as avatars) are now served from that url, and all the checkout urls Gitlab gives are also the same - instead of using my domain name. If I change /etc/gitlab/gitlab.rb to use that url, then Gitlab stops working and gives a 503. • SharePoint MOSS - Serve HTTP content on an HTTPS page without Mixed Content Warning?

  Our "portal-like" SharePoint site is served using HTTPS/SSL. So a user goes to https://web.company.com and sees content and different Web Parts. So far, no problem. The desire now is to have new Web Parts added that either frame HTTP content (such as Weather Bug) or HTTP RSS feeds. The issue that arises is that by doing this, results in a "Mixed Content" warning in the browser. Has anybody successfully been able to implement such a scenario, or one similar to it? • Update saved password for basic authentication using a script

  I have a website that uses basic authentication as described on this webpage. Each of the computers I manage have the password saved in their browser. There is only one username and password for this. After someone logs in to the site this way, they are presented with their individual username and password prompt as part of the web page. The purpose of the initial username/password is to discourage non-technical employees that aren't supposed to be using the page from even viewing it. So far, when we've had to change this password, I've manually gone to each computer and updated the saved password. I'm writing a startup script to configure other aspects of these systems so that I can maintain them easier. I'd like to be able to update the saved password via this script. The operating system running on these machines is Windows XP SP3 and the browsers they're using to access this site are IE8 and IE9. How can I update the saved basic authentication information for a website via a script?
