  • Waiting for a subset of threads in a Java ThreadPool

    - by David Semeria
    Let's say I have a thread pool containing X items, and a given task employs Y of these items (where Y is much smaller than X). I want to wait for all of the threads of a given task (Y items) to finish, not the entire thread pool. If the thread pool's execute() method returned a reference to the employed thread I could simply join() to each of these Y threads, but it doesn't. Does anyone know of an elegant way to accomplish this? Thanks.

  • Generate Spring bean definition from a Java object

    - by joeslice
    Let's suggest that I have a bean defined in Spring: <bean id="neatBean" class="com..." abstract="true">...</bean> Then we have many clients, each of which have slightly different configuration for their 'neatBean'. The old way we would do it was to have a new file for each client (e.g., clientX_NeatFeature.xml) that contained a bunch of beans for this client (these are hand-edited and part of the code base): <bean id="clientXNeatBean" parent="neatBean"> <property id="whatever" value="something"/> </bean> Now, I want to have a UI where we can edit and redefine a client's neatBean on the fly. My question is: given a neatBean, and a UI that can 'override' properties of this bean, what would be a straightforward way to serialize this to an XML file as we do [manually] today? For example, if the user set property whatever to be "17" for client Y, I'd want to generate: <bean id="clientYNeatBean" parent="neatBean"> <property id="whatever" value="17"/> </bean> Note that moving this configuration to a different format (e.g., database, other-schema'd-xml) is an option, but not really an answer to the question at hand.

  • Java syntax of +

    - by Pindatjuh
    Why is the following syntax correct: x = y+++y; (Where it means y++ + y or y + ++y which both mean y * 2 + 1) But this is not valid syntax: x = y+++++y; (Which should mean y++ + ++y, which must mean y and increase y and then add ++y which increases y thus y * 2 + 2) Is there a reason for this?

  • Replace <Unknown Source> in Java Rhino (JSR223) with actual file name

    - by Lord.Quackstar
    Hello everyone, In my code, all of the scripts are contained in .js files. Whenever one of the scripts contains an error, I get this: javax.script.ScriptException: sun.org.mozilla.javascript.internal.EcmaError: ReferenceError: "nonexistant" is not defined. (<Unknown source>#5) in <Unknown source> at line number 5 What bugs me is the <Unknown Source>. Multiple files are in one ScriptContext, and it can be hard to track down an error. It also looks horrible. Is there a way to replace <Unknown Source> with the actual file name? None of the methods I see support passing a File object, so I'm really confused here.

  • Getter/Setter Problem in Java?

    - by Praveen Chandrasekaran
    Hi Folks, I want to pass the String value between the classes both are same package. so i created the the classs like the code: public class Map_Delegate { String myLatitude; String myLongitude; String myName; private String TAG = "Map_Delegate"; public String getMyName() { return this.myName; } public void setMyName(String value) { Log.v(TAG, value); this.myName = value; } public String getMyLatitude() { return this.myLatitude; } public void setMyLatitude(String value) { Log.v(TAG, value); this.myLatitude = value; } public String getMyLongitude() { return this.myLongitude; } public void setMyLongitude(String value) { Log.v(TAG, value); this.myLongitude = value; } } But it can't pass the value. I done like this code to set the value: Map_Delegate map = new Map_Delegate(); map.setMyName(first_name_temp + " " + last_name_temp); map.setMyLatitude(homeLatitude_temp); map.setMyLongitude(homeLongitude_temp); code to get the value: Map_Delegate map = new Map_Delegate(); name_val = getMyName(); lat_val = getMyLatitude(); long_val = getMyLongitude(); Why get the Null value can you Guess? All classes in the same package and public .AnyIdea?

  • Java - A better to run code for a period of time

    - by mhollander38
    I need to run some code for a predefined length of time, when the time is up it needs to stop. Currently I am using a TimerTask to allow the code to execute for a set amount of time but this is causing endless threads to be created by the code and is just simply not efficient. Is there a better alternative? Current code; // Calculate the new lines to draw Timer timer3 = new Timer(); timer3.schedule(new TimerTask(){ public void run(){ ArrayList<String> Coords = new ArrayList<String>(); int x = Float.valueOf(lastFour[0]).intValue(); int y = Float.valueOf(lastFour[1]).intValue(); int x1 = Float.valueOf(lastFour[2]).intValue(); int y1 = Float.valueOf(lastFour[3]).intValue(); //Could be the wrong way round (x1,y1,x,y)? Coords = CoordFiller.coordFillCalc(x, y, x1, y1); String newCoOrds = ""; for (int j = 0; j < Coords.size(); j++) { newCoOrds += Coords.get(j) + " "; } newCoOrds.trim(); ClientStorage.storeAmmendedMotion(newCoOrds); } } ,time);

  • Java Matrix Transpose strangeness going on

    - by user1459976
    ok so im making my own Matrix class. and i have a transpose method that transposes a matrix. this is the block in the main method Matrix m1 = new Matrix(4,2); m1.fillMatrix(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8); System.out.println("before " + m1.toString()); m1.transpose(); System.out.println("after " + m1.toString()); this is where it gets messed up, at m1.transpose(); in the transpose() method public Matrix transpose() { if(isMatrix2) { Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row, col); // matrix2 contents are emptied once this line is executed for(int i=0; i < row; i++) { for(int j=0; j < col; j++) tempMatrix.matrix2[i][j] = matrix2[i][j]; } so for some reason, the tempMatrix.matrix2 has the same id as this.matrix2. so when the codes executes Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row,col); then the contents of this.matrix2 is emptied. anyone know what might be going on here?

  • Problem displaying contents of a class in Java

    - by LuckySlevin
    My problem is i have a class and in it there is a list of elements of another class. public class Branch { private ArrayList<Player> players = new ArrayList<Player>(); String brName; public Branch() {} public void setBr(String brName){this.brName = brName;} public String getBr(){return brName;} public ArrayList<Player> getPlayers() { return players; } public void setPlayers(ArrayList<Player> players) { this.players =new ArrayList<Player>(players); } } public class Player { private String name; private String pos; private Integer salary; private Integer number; public Player(String name, String pos, Integer salary, Integer number) { this.name = name; this.pos = pos; this.salary = salary; this.number = number; } public Player(){} public String getName() { return name; } public String getPos() { return pos; } public Integer getSalary() { return salary; } public Integer getNumber() { return number; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } public void setPos(String pos) { this.pos = pos; } public void setSalary(Integer salary) { this.salary = salary; } public void setNumber(Integer number) { this.number = number; } } My problem is to print the players of a Branch with their name,pos,salary,number. For this i tried this simply : String p1,p2; int a1,a2; p1 = input.readLine(); p2 = input.readLine(); a1 = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); a2 = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); players[0].setName(p1); players[0].setPos(p2); players[0].setSalary(a1); players[0].setNumber(a2); ptmp.add(players[0]); myBranch[0].setPlayers(ptmp); System.out.println(myBranch[0].brName + " " + myBranch[0].getPlayers()); I wrote this just to try how to display. I created an array of Players, and Branches so they already defined. The problem is getPlayers() doesn't give me any result. What is the way to do this?

  • Read an invalid cookie with Java (jsp)?

    - by jsumners
    I have a cookie that is formatted like partA:partB. The colon is not escaped in any fashion. I need to read this cookie in a JSP script, and request.getCookies() is only returning partA. I can't change the cookie because it is used in multiple applications, and fixing the cookie would break production code. Any ideas how I can read the full value of this cookie?

  • java.lang.NumberFormatException: unable to parse '' as integer one more time

    - by Quzziy
    I will take two numbers from user, but this number from EditText must be converted to int. I think it should be working, but I still have problem with compilation code in Android Studio. CatLog show error in line with: int wiek = Integer.parseInt(wiekEditText.getText().toString()); Below is my full Android code: public class MyActivity extends ActionBarActivity { int Wynik; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_my); int Tmax, RT; EditText wiekEditText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.inWiek); EditText tspoczEditText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.inTspocz); int wiek = Integer.parseInt(wiekEditText.getText().toString()); int tspocz = Integer.parseInt(tspoczEditText.getText().toString()); Tmax = 220 - wiek; RT = Tmax - tspocz; Wynik = 70*RT/100 + tspocz; final EditText tempWiekEdit = wiekEditText; TabHost tabHost = (TabHost) findViewById(R.id.tabHost); //Do TabHost'a z layoutu tabHost.setup(); TabHost.TabSpec tabSpec = tabHost.newTabSpec("Calc"); tabSpec.setContent(R.id.Calc); tabSpec.setIndicator("Calc"); tabHost.addTab(tabSpec); tabSpec = tabHost.newTabSpec("Hints"); tabSpec.setContent(R.id.Hints); tabSpec.setIndicator("Hints"); tabHost.addTab(tabSpec); final Button Btn = (Button) findViewById(R.id.Btn); Btn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),"blablabla"+ "Wynik",Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); wiekEditText.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() { @Override public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) { } @Override public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) { Btn.setEnabled(!(tempWiekEdit.getText().toString().trim().isEmpty())); } @Override public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) { } }); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present. getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.my, menu); return true; } @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { // Handle action bar item clicks here. • Framework for creating mock objects in Java

    - by Amir Rachum
    This is NOT a question about which is the best framework, etc. I have never used a mocking framework and I'm a bit puzzled by the idea. How does it know how to create the mock object? Is it done in runtime or generates a file? How do you know its behavior? And most importantly - what is the work flow of using such a framework (what is the step-by-step for creating a test). Can anyone explain? You can choose whichever framework you like for example, just say what it is.

  • URL Routing in Java

    - by Jack
    Coming from other web frameworks, I'm used to being able to map parts of a URL to method parameters. I know that web.xml provides a way to map an entire URL to a Servlet but is there a way to get more features out of this, such as mapping pieces of the URL to method parameters?
