  • ntpdate -d Server dropped Strata too high

    - by AndyM
    I cannot sync with a NTP source thats coming from an internal router/firewall. Anyone help ? ntppdate -d 192.168.92.82 6 Jun 11:57:30 ntpdate[5011]: ntpdate [email protected] Tue Feb 24 06:32:26 EST 2004 (1) transmit(192.168.92.82) receive(192.168.92.82) transmit(192.168.92.82) receive(192.168.92.82) transmit(192.168.92.82) receive(192.168.92.82) transmit(192.168.92.82) receive(192.168.92.82) transmit(192.168.92.82) 192.168.92.82: Server dropped: strata too high server 192.168.92.82, port 123 stratum 16, precision -19, leap 11, trust 000 refid [73.78.73.84], delay 0.02591, dispersion 0.00002 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: 00000000.00000000 Thu, Feb 7 2036 6:28:16.000 originate timestamp: d1972e03.0ae02645 Mon, Jun 6 2011 11:44:19.042 transmit timestamp: d197311b.0ffac1d2 Mon, Jun 6 2011 11:57:31.062 filter delay: 0.02609 0.02591 0.02594 0.02596 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: -792.020 -792.020 -792.020 -792.020 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.02591, dispersion 0.00002 offset -792.020152 6 Jun 11:57:31 ntpdate[5011]: no server suitable for synchronization found Edit The server I'm being asked to sync to is a firewall , and I've now been told that it is not syncing with anything. So I suppose I need to know if I can force my server to sync with a server that is stratum 16 i.e not sync'd. Is that possible ?

  • Why are UDP messages from outside the network received but not delivered?

    - by Warren Pena
I have an Ubuntu Server 10.04 application I've developed that receives messages over a UDP port. The ultimate purpose of this application is to receive messages sent from workers' 3G modems out in the field. If use netcat on either another ubuntu Server or my Vista laptop (both on the same LAN as my test machine) to send a message, the message arrives correctly and appears in my application. However, if I go out to my car and use its 3G modem to send a message from the same Vista laptop, it doesn't work. If I run tcpdump -A, I see the message arrive correctly, but it's never delivered to my application. Clearly, the OS is the one making the choice not to deliver the messages (else they wouldn't appear in tcpdump nor would my app receive them when coming from local machines). I have not installed any firewall software on this machine, nor am I aware of anything installed by default that would block the traffic. sudo iptables --list returns Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination I'm not too familiar with iptables, but it looks to me like that's telling it to not do anything. What could be going on that's preventing my messages from being delivered?

  • IP Tables won't save the rule.

    - by ArchUser
    Hello, I'm using ArchLinux and I have an IP tables rule that I know works (from my other server), and it's in /etc/iptables/iptables.rules, it's the only rule set in that directory. I run, /etc/rc.d/iptables save, then /etc/rc.d/iptables/restart, but when I do "iptables --list", I get ACCEPTs on INPUT,FORWARD & OUTPUT. # Generated by iptables-save v1.4.8 on Sat Jan 8 18:42:50 2011 *filter :INPUT DROP [0:0] :FORWARD DROP [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [216:14865] :BRUTEGUARD - [0:0] :interfaces - [0:0] :open - [0:0] -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 18 -j DROP -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 17 -j DROP -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 10 -j DROP -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 9 -j DROP -A INPUT -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 5 -j DROP -A INPUT -p icmp -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -j interfaces -A INPUT -j open -A INPUT -p tcp -j REJECT --reject-with tcp-reset -A INPUT -p udp -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-port-unreachable -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp ! --tcp-flags FIN,SYN,RST,ACK SYN -m state --state NEW -j DROP -A INPUT -f -j DROP -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --tcp-flags FIN,SYN,RST,PSH,ACK,URG FIN,SYN,RST,PSH,ACK,URG -j DROP -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --tcp-flags FIN,SYN,RST,PSH,ACK,URG NONE -j DROP -A INPUT -i eth+ -p icmp -m icmp --icmp-type 8 -j DROP -A BRUTEGUARD -m recent --set --name BF --rsource -A BRUTEGUARD -m recent --update --seconds 600 --hitcount 20 --name BF --rsource -j LOG --log-prefix "[BRUTEFORCE ATTEMPT] " --log-level 6 -A BRUTEGUARD -m recent --update --seconds 600 --hitcount 20 --name BF --rsource -j DROP -A interfaces -i lo -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 10011 -j ACCEPT -A open -p udp -m udp --dport 9987 -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 30033 -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8000 -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8001 -j ACCEPT -A open -s 76.119.125.61 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT -A open -s 76.119.125.61 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT -A open -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j BRUTEGUARD -A open -s 76.119.125.61 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -m state --state NEW,RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT COMMIT # Completed on Sat Jan 8 18:42:50 2011

  • Short POST data in HTTP

    - by Matt
We're hosting a customer's Debian Linux web server. It's running a PHP based web application. The server is sitting behind our firewall with it's own virtual interface and port 80 is forwarded internally to a machine sitting in the DMZ. The issue we're having is that when data is posted to the server it seems to be being cut short for some users. It's reproducable for some users on the same box. But the same user sending the same data on the same lan on another PC it works. The data gets cut to around 1140 bytes I'm told. Any idea why this might be happening? The customer is blaming our firewall, but then surely we'd have issues with other services. I'm suspecting it's a problem with the website itself. Suggestions on how to isolate the problem would be of help. Our firewall is Astaro. EDIT: A customer has set the ethernet frame size temporarily to 500bytes on the server. This made it work for now! I know some of the customers are using an internet provider that runs PPPoE

  • How can I close a port that appears to be orphaned by Xvfb?

    - by Jim Fiorato
I'm running Xvfb on a FC8 Amazon EC2 image. On occasion Xvfb will crash (unable at the moment to find out the reason for the crash), and after crashing the TCP port will appear to be orphaned. I'm unable to get a PID to kill any process that may be using it. I'm starting Xvfb with: Xvfb :7 -screen 0 1024x768x24 & Examples of what I'm working with are below, the Xvfb port is (was) 6007: # netstat -ap Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 1894/sshd tcp 0 0 *:6007 *:* LISTEN - tcp 0 352 ip-10-84-69-165.ec2.int:ssh c-71-194-253-238.hsd1:51689 ESTABLISHED 2981/0 udp 0 0 *:bootpc *:* 1817/dhclient udp 0 0 *:bootpc *:* 1463/dhclient Active UNIX domain sockets (servers and established) Proto RefCnt Flags Type State I-Node PID/Program name Path unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 871 668/udevd @/org/kernel/udev/udevd unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 5385 1880/dbus-daemon /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket unix 6 [ ] DGRAM 5353 1867/rsyslogd /dev/log unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 11861 2981/0 unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5461 1974/crond unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5451 1904/console-kit-da unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5438 1880/dbus-daemon /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5437 1904/console-kit-da unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5396 1880/dbus-daemon unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5395 1880/dbus-daemon unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 5361 1871/rklogd # lsof -i COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME dhclient 1463 root 3u IPv4 4704 UDP *:bootpc dhclient 1817 root 4u IPv4 5173 UDP *:bootpc sshd 1894 root 3u IPv4 5414 TCP *:ssh (LISTEN) sshd 2981 root 3u IPv4 11825 TCP ip-10-84-69-165.ec2.internal:ssh->c-71-194-253-238.hsd1.il.comcast.net:51689 (ESTABLISHED) Attempting to force the port closed with iptables doesn't seem to work either. iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6007 -j DROP I'm at a loss as to how to reclaim/free the port. From what I can tell, this port will remain in this state until the EC2 instance is shut down. So, how can I close this port so I can restart Xvfb?

  • Gluster bricks are offline and errors in logs

    - by Roman Newaza
I have substituted all the IP addresses with hostnames and renamed configs (IP to hostname) in /var/lib/glusterd by my shell script. After that I restarted Gluster Daemon and the volume. Then I checked if all the peers are connected: root@GlusterNode1a:~# gluster peer status Number of Peers: 3 Hostname: gluster-1b Uuid: 47f469e2-907a-4518-b6a4-f44878761fd2 State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) Hostname: gluster-2b Uuid: dc3a3ff7-9e30-44ac-9d15-00f9dab4d8b9 State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) Hostname: gluster-2a Uuid: 72405811-15a0-456b-86bb-1589058ff89b State: Peer in Cluster (Connected) I could see mounted volumes size change on all the nodes when I execute df command, so new data is coming. But recently I noticed error messages in app log: copy(/storage/152627/dat): failed to open stream: Structure needs cleaning readfile(/storage/1438227/dat): failed to open stream: Input/output error unlink(/storage/189457/23/dat): No such file or directory Finally, I have found out some bricks are offline: root@GlusterNode1a:~# gluster volume status Status of volume: storage Gluster process Port Online Pid ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brick gluster-1a:/storage/1a 24009 Y 1326 Brick gluster-1b:/storage/1b 24009 N N/A Brick gluster-2a:/storage/2a 24009 N N/A Brick gluster-2b:/storage/2b 24009 N N/A Brick gluster-1a:/storage/3a 24011 Y 1332 Brick gluster-1b:/storage/3b 24011 N N/A Brick gluster-2a:/storage/4a 24011 N N/A Brick gluster-2b:/storage/4b 24011 N N/A NFS Server on localhost 38467 Y 24670 Self-heal Daemon on localhost N/A Y 24676 NFS Server on gluster-2b 38467 Y 4339 Self-heal Daemon on gluster-2b N/A Y 4345 NFS Server on gluster-2a 38467 Y 1392 Self-heal Daemon on gluster-2a N/A Y 1402 NFS Server on gluster-1b 38467 Y 2435 Self-heal Daemon on gluster-1b N/A Y 2441 What can I do about that? • What is the correct iptables rule when NATing multiple private subnets?

    - by Jose Mendez
I have a Centos minimal 6.5 acting as a router. eth0 is connected to a Cisco switch trunk port, allowing VLANs 200-213. I have several VLAN interfaces just as this link suggests: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Deployment_Guide/s2-networkscripts-interfaces_802.1q-vlan-tagging.html And have IPv4 forwarding, so all my network devices from any of the networks 200-213 can communicate with each other using this linux box as their router. Problem is, I need them to access the Internet, so I added the following rule: iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.0.0/16 -j SNAT --to 1.1.1.56 1.1.1.56 is the "outside" address. This works fine, devices connected to the internal networks can ping Intertnet addresses BUT, they stop being able to talk to each other across subnets, so 192.168.211.55 can ping 8.8.8.8, but can't talk to 192.168.213.5. As soon as I do a service iptables restart to remove the rule, I can start talking across internal subnets again. What would be the correct way to set up NAT for multiple private subnets? Or maybe the correct way to set up forwarding?

  • Failed to mount to nfs server with "Program not Registered"

    - by Farrel
I'm trying to setup nfs server on Fedora 17 and I'm getting "Program not Registered" error when I'm trying to mount. I guess the main reason for this is rpcbind. I'm a newbie in linux, so I don't know what info should I provide you with. Here is some info that might be useful. rpcinfo -p program vers proto port service 100000 4 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 3 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 4 udp 111 portmapper 100000 3 udp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper 100005 1 udp 20048 mountd 100005 1 tcp 20048 mountd 100005 2 udp 20048 mountd 100005 2 tcp 20048 mountd 100005 3 udp 20048 mountd 100005 3 tcp 20048 mountd 100024 1 udp 42223 status 100024 1 tcp 50054 status cat /etc/exports /home/Farrel/prog 192.168.xxx.xxx (ro,sync) service nfs status Redirecting to /bin/systemctl status nfs.service nfs-server.service - NFS Server Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/nfs-server.service; enabled) Active: active (exited) since Fri, 02 Nov 2012 09:29:04 +0300; 5min ago Process: 924 ExecStartPost=/usr/lib/nfs-utils/scripts/nfs-server.postconfig (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 909 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd $RPCNFSDARGS ${RPCNFSDCOUNT} (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 885 ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/exportfs -r (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 864 ExecStartPre=/usr/lib/nfs-utils/scripts/nfs-server.preconfig (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/nfs-server.service Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. I spent a lot of time reading on the topic but all manuals on setting up nfs server lead to "Program not Registered" error. Any how-to-fix-it ideas?

  • Ubuntu 10.04 Keyboard and Mouse Freezing Problem

    - by nitbuntu
I had a partition setup with Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 dual booting. I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 by installing fresh from CD but leaving the previous /home folder as is. Things seemed to be working fine, but started finding that my mouse and keyboard were freezing. After a quick search on the internet, I found the following suggestions as shown here:- Ubuntu Forums Here the suggestion was to:- Edit /etc/default/grub, go to the line that begins like: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= Change it to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=off" After that, run this command: sudo update-grub and Reboot This seemed to have resolved the issue but after a couple of days I again find my mouse and keyboard freezing. I also find that my parallel port printer had also stopped working. I have saved the output of dmesg and my syslog. The first can be viewed here but the syslog had too many characters, so if someone can suggest an alternative to freetexthost, I can post it there. Moreover, if there is any other information that should be provided, do let me know. I do hope we can get to the bottom of this issue. Thank you in advance for any help that could be provided.

  • NAT ports - how do they work?

    - by Davidoper
I have the following network schema: Computer A: three nics: NIC 1 (eth0): dhcp, public internet NIC 2 (eth1): static 192.168.1.1, gateway for Computer B NIC 3 (eth2): static 192.168.2.1, gateway for Computer C Computer B: static 192.168.1.2, using gateway 192.168.1.1 (NIC 2). Computer C: static 192.168.2.2, using gateway 192.168.2.1 (NIC 3). So I applied this to get NAT working: iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE Every computer can connect to the internet now. I have been applying rules to the main computer (Computer A), like dropping connections to some ports, e.g ssh: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -j DROP But for instance, now I would like only allow connections for ports 20,21,22,53 and 80 in Computer C, and ignore the outside traffic if it's not related to those ports. The allowed connections should be FROM Computer C to outside, but not from outside to Computer C (I mean - Computer C is not hosting any HTTP or SSH, but it is going to use them as a client). I guess this sould be done like this: iptables -A OUTPUT -i eth2 -o eth0 -p tcp --dport 21 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i eth2 -o eth0 -p tcp --sport 21 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT The last rule (dropping any other traffic different from those) is at the end of the configuration, so -A should be working correctly. The thing is... it is not working. If I put the last rule like this: iptables -A FORWARD -i eth2 -o eth0 -j DROP It just drops everything and, for instance, port 21 (previously opened as you can see above) is not either working. Can you tell me what could I have done wrong? I have been struggling with this problem for some time and I am unable to solve it. Thanks!

  • How can find the USB wireless adapter into the dmesg log file?

    - by AndreaNobili
I am pretty new in Linux (RaspBian for RaspBerry Pi but I think that there are not difference) and I have to install an USB wireless network adapter (the product is the TP-Link TL-WN725N, this one: http://www.tp-link.it/products/details/?model=TL-WN725N ) Now, I think that this is not automatically recognized by my system because if I execute ifconfig command I obtain the following output: pi@raspberrypi ~ $ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr b8:27:eb:2a:9f:b0 inet addr:192.168.1.8 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:475 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:424 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:34195 (33.3 KiB) TX bytes:89578 (87.4 KiB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) So now it see only my ethernet network interface and not the wireless. So I was thinkig to try to see into the dmesg, but I don't know what have I to see and how to select it into the dmesg output. For example by the following command I can see the line of the dmesg log file relate to my ethernet port: pi@raspberrypi ~ $ cat /var/log/dmesg |grep -i eth [ 3.177620] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0 eth0: register 'smsc95xx' at usb-bcm2708_usb-1.1, smsc95xx USB 2.0 Ethernet, b8:27:eb:2a:9f:b0 [ 18.030389] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0 eth0: hardware isn't capable of remote wakeup [ 19.642167] smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0 eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1 But what can I try to search for the USB wireless adapter? Tnx

Intro I have desktop with DVD-RW drive that runs primarily on Linux (namely Ubuntu 9.10). My wife has netbook that rins Windows XP with no cd/dvd drive. There's also LAN through our ADSL modem/router. I've "ported" (actually, I've just grabbed sources and ran dpkg-buildpackage) iscsitarget package from Ubuntu Lucid to Karmic (here are packages), installed it (sudo aptitude install iscsitarget; sudo m-a a-i iscsitarget) and configured it in the following way (/etc/ietd.conf): Target iqn.2020-01.local.develop7-desktop:storage.disc.dvdrw Lun 0 Path=/dev/sr0,Type=blockio #I've skipped commented lines Also, I've opened port 3260 with ufw: $ sudo ufw status | grep 3260 3260 ALLOW 192.168.1.0/24 Problem But (here's the trouble) I still can't connect to this target from Windows box. Microsoft Software iSCSI Initiator screams "Logon failure" upon connect attempt, and, respectively, fails to connect. After unsuccessful connection attempt I've noticed this line in dmesg | tail's output: iscsi_trgt: ioctl(299) invalid ioctl cmd c078690d Question So the question is — what's wrong with my config/iSCSI target/whatever else? Or, in short — what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

  • Moving MySQL directory on an Amazon EC2 machine

    - by Traveling Tech Guy
I'm trying to have MySQL point to a directory on an EBS volume I mounted on my EC2 machine. I took th following steps: Stopped MySQL (/etc/init.d/mysqld stop) - successful Created a MySQL directory on my volume, mounted on /vol (mkdir /vol/mysql) Copied the contents of /var/lib/mysql to /vol/mysql (cp -R /var/lib/mysql /vol/mysql) Chanded the owner and group of that directory to match the original (chown -R mysql:mysql /vol/mysql) - after this step, the 2 directories are identical. Edited the /etc/my.cnf file (commented 2 original lines): [mysqld] #datadir=/var/lib/mysql #socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock datadir=/vol/mysql socket=/vol/mysql/mysql.sock` Started MySQL (/etc/init.d/mysqld start) - FAILED The error file /var/log/mysqld.log contains the following lines: 100205 20:52:54 mysqld started 100205 20:52:54 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 43665 100205 20:52:54 [Note] /usr/libexec/mysqld: ready for connections. Version: '5.0.45' socket: '/vol/mysql/mysql.sock' port: 3306 Source distribution No other errors are available. What am I doing wrong? Where can I find the error/s encountered by MySql? If I restore the original lines, MySQL starts, leading me to believe it may be a permissions issue - but permissions are the same for both directories? Thanks!

  • OpenVPN: ifup tap0 drops all connections

    - by raspi
I'm trying to create star shaped "virtual" LAN with OpenVPN which is not connected to physical network. ie. tap0 packets should not go to eth0. Packet should only go through OpenVPN to connected clients. This setup works with my OpenVPN testing machine which runs Virtual Box but not on my actual server which is running on top of Xen. Both servers are running Ubuntu Intrepid. /etc/network/interfaces: iface tap0 inet manual address 10.10.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.10.10.1 /etc/openvpn/server.conf mode server tls-server port 1194 proto udp dev tap client-to-client ca /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/ca.crt cert /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/servername.crt key /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/servername.key dh /etc/openvpn/easy-rsa/keys/dh384.pem ifconfig-pool-persist ipp.txt server-bridge 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0 10.10.10.128 10.10.10.250 push .route 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0 keepalive 5 60 comp-lzo persist-key persist-tun status /var/log/openvpn-status.log log-append /var/log/openvpn.log verb 3 user nobody group nogroup ifup tap0 on Virtual Box: everything ok, SSH keeps running. But on Xen SSH connection drops and I have to reboot whole machine. What I'm missing?

  • Non ASCII char in PHP?

    - by domagoj412
Hello, I am trying to send something to serial port (r232) with PHP. I am using this class: http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/3679.html The problem is that I am allowed to send only 1 byte. But if I send something like "1", I am actually sending 49 (ASCII for 1). Instead of send("1"), I tried with send(1) but it is no good, because this is integer which has 2 bytes. So is there a way to send a "real" char, not ASCII equivalent?

  • sysctl.conf not running on boot

    - by Brian
At what point is sysctl.conf supposed to be read during boot, and why might it not be running? I have the following settings which are not being applied when I reboot: net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-ip6tables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-pppoe-tagged = 0 net.bridge.bridge-nf-filter-vlan-tagged = 0 fs.nfs.nlm_udpport = 32768 fs.nfs.nlm_tcpport = 32768 The first section is needed for KVM bridging, and the second is to run the NFS lock manager on a known port. However, after booting, these values have not taken effect. If I run sysctl -p, then they do. This wouldn't be a huge issue, except that I can't figure out how to restart the lock manager without rebooting. I would really like to know why sysctl.conf isn't working at boot, but I'd settle for just being able to restart the lock manager. This is on Ubuntu server 10.04.2, kernel 2.6.32-31-server. I know some daemons check the permissions on their config files and refuse to work if they're too permissive, but sysctl.conf is 644 root:root, which I'm pretty sure is the default.

  • VNC failure on Xen

    - by BCable
The following config works and creates a good VM in Xen: # Kernel Setup kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18.8-xenU" # Memory memory = "256" # Disk disk = [ "file:/opt/xen/domains/110/sda1.img,sda1,w", "file:/opt/xen/domains/110/swap.img,sda2,w" ] # container name name = "110" hostname = "boo" # Networking vif = ["type=ieomu, bridge=xenbr0"] # VNC vnc = 1 #vfb = [ 'type=vnc,vncdisplay=2,vnclisten=0.0.0.0,vncpasswd=110' ] # Behavior Settings root = "/dev/sda1" extra = "fastboot" But when I uncomment the VFB line, I get the following error after it hangs for at least 30 seconds: [root@customer 110]# xm create boo.cfg Using config file "./boo.cfg". Error: Device 0 (vkbd) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working. Any ideas? Part two of this question: Sometimes it actually works, and a port is opened. When this happens, nmap shows the VNC ports open and I can connect via the VNC client, but it just hangs at "Connection established." and no VNC display shows up. I've tried multiple VNC clients (TightVNC, TightVNC Java Console, RealVNC), but they all fail to connect. Does VNC through Xen require X to be started in order to function? I was under the impression that it would show the console screen, so I'm confused as to why all these issues are occurring. Thanks!

  • How can I find the USB wireless adapter into the dmesg log file?

• How to remap IPs visible from local machine to IPs visible from a machine I have SSH access to?

    - by gooli
I'm so far out of my depth I don't even know what to google for. There's a server I can connect to via SSH. Via that server I can access other server on its subnet via SSH. What I want to do is be able to access the machines that server has access to directly. Say the server IP is 192.168.7.7 and is the only one in the 192.168.x.x range I have access to. I'd like to configure things in such a way that when I to access say 192.168.7.100 on my machine, the connection will go through an SSH tunnel I open to 192.168.7.7 and out to 192.168.7.100. I would like this to work for any port if at all possible. I know I can set an HTTP proxy and even a SOCKS proxy, but I'm wondering is there is a way to actually remap some of the IP my machine sees to IP only visible from the remote machine. What would this configuration be called? IS this NAT, VPN, IP2IP or something else? How can I set up this on a Windows client box that connects via SSH to a Linux box? Sounds to me like I need to set up some kind of filtering on the network driver or possibly a virtual NIC, but I'm not sure where to go next.
