  • Where are iSCSI and volume information location on ESX 4.0?

    Let me start by saying I am somewhat of a Vmware novice, I know just enought to manage and create servers at a basic level from the vSphere client. I have a VMWare server, ESX 4.0 connected over iSCSI to a SAN. The SAN is being used as storage for both RDMs and VMFS volumes. The SAN has died and I ordered a new one. Where can I see the settings related to the iSCSI and volume configuration so that I can try and replicate them on the new SAN when it arrives?

    Quick and simple question. There are examples online about achieving in-memory gzip compression with zlib (C++) WITHOUT external libraries (like boost or such)? I just need to compress and decompress a block of data without much options. (it must be gzip as its the same format used by another mine C# program (the data is to be shared)) Tried to search to no avail... Thanks!

  • LVM incorrectly reported missing after power failure

    We have had a major power failure in the data-center. We are using a set of servers for our storage needs. The main server has several pairs of disks mirrored with mdadm. The resulting /dev/mdX are LVM physical volumes and belong to a big volume-group with all our data. After the powerloss, we had the problem that one of the mdadm devices was not auto-detected due to a missing entry in mdadm.conf. As a consequence, the volumegroup had inactive logical volumes due to the missing PV. We were able to fix the mdadm config and reboot. pvscan shows all expected PVs but one LV still does not come up. vgdisplay shows: [...] Cur PV: 3 Act PV: 2 [...] Neither vgscan nor pvscan show any missing devices. What went wrong? How can we force LVM to activate all PVs?

  • Windows 7 Extend C Volume to Unallocated Space

    a while back I installed Ubuntu and then later uninstalled it by I think deleting the partitions and recovering the windows 7 boot loader. I am not that experienced with partitioning yet. As you can see here there are two partitions that are now unallocated. The 9gb one is a recovery or something that came with the computer. How can I extend my C partition to use both of those? I do not want to have that much storage just wasted sitting there.   • Maintaining many socket connections with a single thread

    Many tutorials on socket communication I see seem to use 1 thread per socket. But on a server used for online gaming, you might have 10k concurrent users - 10k threads isn't probably a wonderful idea. I came across a tool (SmartFox) which claims to use a single thread for monitoring all socket connections, potentially thousands of them. This app happens to be in Java, but I figure C++ or C# could do the same... how would you achieve this?

    I have a dynamic php website which index only has around 800 errors according to the w3 validator online. I have tried checking major websites like ebay, stackoverflow and others also, all with around 400 errors. So my first thought is, what good is that validator when it always displays errors? Secondly, will the errors affect my SERP ranking? ie, will me fixing these errors as good as I can increase my Google search position? Thanks

    In mongodb i work with this collection: Size 55.93g Data Size 39.82g Storage Size 41.08g Extents 53 Indexes 4 Index Size 9.64g It takes few seconds of mongdb being up with this single collection and all 48GB RAM on the dedicated server are gone. That's worse because there is also a mysqld+nginx/fcgi on this machine which should be allowed to use at least 24GB together. I.e. remaining 24GB, enough for the mongod! However, it does not share in a fair way. Everybody says that the memory for mongod is managed by OS and releases unneccessary space for other processes if they demand RAM. On my machine it is not releasing RAM.     FUSE filesystem list show some FuseFat and FatFuse. Both are old, FatFuse is read-only , FuseFat is non-buildable and probably depends on glib. Now I'm using mountlo for the task (mounting USB drives in generic way without root access or suid things (except of fusermount itself)), but it looks too big for such task. Using FUSE to mount external storage devices is good both for security and for flexibility reason: the kernel sees only block reads and writes while actual code that deals with filesystem details runs with user privileges, allowing user to use custom filesystems and preventing from kernel filesystem exploits. Is there good vfat FUSE driver?

    This question already has an answer here: Can you help me with my capacity planning? 2 answers I will need to buy a decent server for Windows Server 2012 and Linux for Web server (Internal use only - Intranet). I will install ESXi with 2 or 3 VM's. There will be about 80-100 Agents at work, they will login (domain controller) on client PC in the morning (between 9:40am to 10:05am). They can only use IE browser and everything else will be locked.
