• Jetty: Mount to a directory on a different host

  I'm looking to map to a directory on a different host using Jetty/Maven when working locally. I've found you can do this w/ Apache using mod_jk (JkMount/JkUnMount), but haven't figured it how to do the same on jetty. On our dev/q/live servers, we have Apache in front of JBoss and use mod_jk to do this. Locally, we're using jetty To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how you would configure Apache to accomplish this: in httpd.conf: JkMount /images/* host2 JkMount /* host2 JkUnMount /images/* host1 workers.properties: worker.list=host2,host1 worker.host2.host=host-2.theDomain.com worker.host2.port=46654 worker.host1.host=host-1.theDomain.com worker.host1.port=46655 Is there a way to configure Jetty to do the same thing? Btw, locally, I'm using the Maven plugin for Eclipse if that makes a difference. thanks!

• Is there a way to check if a host is up?

  I'm trying to do this in PHP. I need to check if a specified host is "up" I thought of pinging the specified host (though I'm not sure how I would, since that would require root. --help here?) I also though of using fsockopen() to try to connect on a specified port, but that would fail too, if the host wasn't listening for connections on that port. Additionally, some hosts block ping requests, so how might I get around this? This part isn't a necessity, though, so don't worry about this too much. I realize this one might get tricky.

• MATLAB: How do I get 3D coordiantes from a user-click?

  I'm using Matlab to create a small chess game for one of my courses this semester. The thing I'm having trouble with is having the user be able to select one of the chess pieces. To simplify things, I'm making it so that the user selects a piece by clicking on the square that the chess piece resides on rather than clicking the piece itself (which I assume would be much more difficult). I know how to get the x and y coordinates of the view-port, but how do I transform these coordinates into 3-space coordinates? I know that there are multiple x,y,z coordinates associated with each view-port coordinate, but I'm only interested in the x,y,z coordinate where z = 0 (since the board itself is in the x,y plane that intersects the z axis where z = 0). • Page layout breaks only in Opera which is weird?

  Okay so I'm working on an admin panel, in which everything should always be only within the view port until you hit the minimum widths and heights set. The current version of it can be seen here (its still in development) : http://qwibbledesigns.co.uk/preview/Admin/ In layout terms, it works flawlessly in all browsers, even down to ie6 =D. However, opera doesn't like it, and for some reason, always add's extra space to the bottom of the page, making it have an extra scrollbar, and I can't fathom it out which is highly annoying. Jquery is used to set the height of the container, sidebar, and content area so that they're always within the browser view port, and these functions rerun when the window is resized. I therefore cannot work out the the life of me what's wrong with opera. Would anyone mind taking a look and seeing if they can work it out? =D

  I have a linux server, and I am about to upload a classifieds website to it. The website is php based. That means php code adds/removes classifieds, with the help of the users offcourse. The php-code then adds/removes a classified to a database index called Solr (like MySql). Problem is that anybody can currently access the database, but I only want the website to access the database (solr). Solr is on port 8983 as standard btw. My Q is, if I add a rule in my firewall (iptables), to only allow connections coming from the servers IP to the Solr port nr, would this solve my issue? Thanks

  Hello. I need fast implementation of popular interpolation algorithms. I figured it out that C# in such simple algorithms will be much slower than C++ so i think of writing some native code and using it in my C# GUI. First of all i run some tests and few operations on 1024x1024x3 matrix took 32ms in C# and 4ms in C++ and that's what i basicly need. Interpolation however is not a good word because i need them only for downscaling. • How do I view the parameters of currently running procs in SQL Server 2008

  I am trying to troubleshoot an issue that is popping up on our new SQL Server. While viewing the running processes (sp_who2) I can't tell what parameters a proc was started with. I can find the name of the proc using: DBCC INPUTBUFFER (spid) I can even find some additional info, but I can't see a way to show the parameters. (http://sqlserverpedia.com/blog/sql-server-bloggers/sql-server-%E2%80%93-get-last-running-query-based-on-spid/) I know I can see the parameters if I do a trace, but that doesn't help in this case.

• Why is Harvest being purchased at all?

  Does your work environment use Harvest SCM? I've used this now at two different locations and find it appalling. In one situation I wrote a conversion script so I could use CVS locally and then daily import changes to the Harvest system while I was sleeping. The corp was fanatic about using Harvest, despite 80% of the programmers crying for something different. It was needlessly complicated, slow and heavy. It is now a job requirement for me that Harvest is not in use where I work. Has anyone else used Harvest before? What's your experience? As bad as mine? Did you employ other, different workarounds? Why is this product still purchased today?

• Firefox running infinitely even after condition met in jquery function

  The following function is called with setTimeout(function () { get_progress(fileID,fileName)},8000); upon a form submit. The purpose of the function is to get read_file.php to read a txt file that stores the file upload status from a form (in percentage). Upon reaching 80%, my Firefox seems to run infinitely even when HEAD returns an error.   Hello, I have an empty table that previously had a large amount of rows. The table has about 10 columns and indexes on many of them, as well as indexes on multiple columns. • Best way to make a script to SSH?

  My university has quite a lot files (like past papers etc) which I need to be on the uni network to access them. I ssh, using port forwarding, into the network and set my browser (Firefox) to go through that port. I know it would be quite easy to write something in most languages that would enter the command into a terminal, but which language/method could I use to make this happen? I expect some sort of scripting language could but I really know nothing about them, but I'd be willing to learn one just to have a little fun with this. I'm using a cygwin terminal on Windows 7, if that will make a difference. To neaten up my question: Which language would be best to acheive the above effect? Not necessarily the best, just possible and relatively simple to learn. I used the word best so I suppose I'll put a subjective tag.

  I received a SSL cert to use for a Tomcat 6.0 server, ready to use. I configured Tomcat to use it with the following in server.xml: <Connector port="8443" maxThreads="200" scheme="https" secure="true" SSLEnabled="true" keystoreFile="C:\Tomcat 6.0\ssl\cert" keystorePass="*****" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/> I started Tomcat using the command prompt so I could see any error message as they happened. There were none. The results for accessing different URLS: http://localhost - normal page loads fine https://localhost - browser claims page cannot be found https://localhost:8443 - page cannot be found http://localhost:8443 - offers a certificate, after accepted redirects to https://localhost (I suspect the https:// urls initially offer the certificate which is automatically accepted by the browser, as it was issued by Verisign) How to fix? Edit: I've also tried port="443". Same result.

The table will hold 80 questions each with 4 possible options plus the correct answer. When retrieving the questions and options from the database I will randomly select 25 questions and their options. Is it better to make a single column for all questions, options, and correct answers?   I'm trying to port an application from using HAL to using pure udev. It is written in python and will use the gudev library, though I would love to see examples in any language. I'm able to get all attached video devices (such as cameras) via: import gudev client = gudev.Client(["video4linux"]) for device in client.get_devices(): print device.get_sysfs_attr("name"), device.get_device_name() This prints out something like: USB2.0 UVC WebCam /dev/video0 I am also able to get a list of block devices, but how can I: Tell if it is a CD/DVD drive? Tell if media is currently inserted if the drive supports removable media? Tell what the name/label of the media is (e.g. FUTURAMAS1 for a DVD)? • Client-server application between two computers in the same network (using boost::asio)

  I'm trying to set up a basic communication between my desktop PC and my laptop (latter one using wireless connection) both being in the same network, using the boost::asio tutorials: synchronous client and synchronous server (in c++). When I run both the server and client on the same machine (using the localhost and the datetime port as parameters), it works splendidly. But if I try to set up the laptop as server (tested it with netstat -anb from the command prompt, it is indeed running and listening to port 13 as it's supposed to, and I even deactivated the firewall to make sure it doesn't cause any problems), I cannot connect to it with the client (set up on the PC), no matter what IP I tried (localhost, and basically any IPs that ipconfig -all gave me). So no matter what I tried, I cannot find the correct address that which the client can use to connect to the server. Could anyone help me please?

  I have a text file which contains a list of alphabetically organized variables with their variable numbers next to them formatted something like follows: aabcdef 208 abcdefghijk 1191 bcdefga 7 cdefgab 12 defgab 100 efgabcd 999 fgabc 86 gabcdef 9 h 11 ijk 80 ... ... I would like to read each text as a string and keep it's designated id# something like read "aabcdef" and store it into an array at spot 208. The 2 issues I'm running into are: I've never read from file in C#, is there a way to read, say from start of line to whitespace as a string? and then the next string as an int until the end of line? given the nature and size of these files I do not know the highest ID value of each file (not all numbers are used so some files could house a number like 3000, but only actually list 200 variables) So how could I make a flexible way to store these variables when I don't know how big the array/list/stack/etc.. would need to be.

• Rsync module path needs to be a home directory

  I'm trying to use rsync to backup windows servers to an rsync server. I'm having problems with rsync on the linux side though, it doesn't like symlinks. Currently I'm trying to use the module path of ~/backup, but rsync says that the chroot failed. I looked up what to do and saw that I needed to add the option use chroot = no and munge symlinks = no. That fixed the @ERROR: chroot failed but now it's telling me @ERROR: chdir failed and the log files say that there is no ~/backup directory. I know the user I'm authenticating with has a backup folder in his directory. How can I fix this? For reference I'm using a .NET port of rsync called NetSync and tunneling it over a port forwarded SSH connection generated with granados.

  Hi, I tried to build a very very small .NET app in F#. It just has to convert a small string into another string and print the result to the console like: convert.exe myString == prints something like "myConvertedString" I used dottrace to analyze the performance: 26% (168ms) in my actual string conversion (I thinks this is ok.) 65,80% (425ms) in ResolvePolicy in System.Security.SecurityManager A runtime 500ms on every execution is way too slow.
