    Hi all, hopefully somebody can help The table structure is as follows: tblCompany: compID compName tblOffice: offID, compID, add1, add2, add3 etc... tblEmployee: empID Name, telNo, etc... offID I have a form that contains contact details for employees, all works ok using after update. A cascading combo box, cmbComp, allows me to select a company, and inturn select the appropriate office, cboOff, and updates the corresponding tblEmployee.offID field correctly. Fields are automatically updated for the address also cmbComp: RowSource SELECT DISTINCT tblOffice.compID, tblCompany.compID FROM tblCompany INNER JOIN AdjusterCompanyOffice ON tblCompany.compID=tblOffice.compID ORDER BY tblCompany.compName; cboOff: RowSource SELECT tblCompany.offID, tblCompany.Address1, tblCompany.Address2, tblCompany.Address3, tblCompany.Address4, tblCompany.Address5 FROM tblCompany ORDER BY tblCompany.Address1; The problem I am having is that when i load a new record how to retrieve the data and automatically load the cmbComp and text fields. The cboOff combo box loads correctly as the control source for this is the offID I imagine there must be a way of setting the value on opening the record? Not sure how though. I dont think I can set the controlsource cmbComp or text fields, or can I? Any help/point in the right direction appreciated, have been searching for a way to do this but cant get anywhere!

Now I upgraded to SQL Server 2008 and I don’t want to use this feature anymore since Microsoft will be dropping this feature off. Is there any other alternative I can use to connect to a server and generate scripts automatically from a database? Any answer is welcome. Thanks in advance. I only have the SQLite db stored on a share so a cluster of failover computers can take over where one machine left off. Are there any inherent problems with that approach?

Invoice with columns CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID (CustomerID and InvoiceDate make up a composite key) and InvoiceType with InvoiceTypeID and InvoiceTypeName columns. I know I can create my objects like: public class Invoice { public virtual int CustomerID { get; set; } public virtual DateTime InvoiceDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal Value { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceType InvoiceType { get; set; } } public class InvoiceType { public virtual InvoiceTypeID { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeName { get; set; } } So the generated sql would look something like: SELECT CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID FROM Invoice WHERE CustomerID = x AND InvoiceDate = y SELECT InvoiceTypeID, InvoiceTypeName FROM InvoiceType WHERE InvoiceTypeID = z But rather that having two select queries executed to retrieve the data I would rather have one. I would also like to avoid using child object for simple lookup lists.     I have a bidding table, as follows: SellID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES SellItem(SellID), CusID INT FOREIGN KEY REFERENCES Customer(CusID), Amount FLOAT NOT NULL, BidTime DATETIME DEFAULT getdate() Now in my website I need to show the user the current bids; only the highest bid but without repeating the same user. SELECT CusID, Max(Amount) FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC This is the best I have achieved so far. This gives the CusID of each user with the maximum bid and it is ordered ascending. But I need to get the BidTime for each result as well. When I try to put the BidTime in to the query: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC I am told that "Column 'Bid.BidTime' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause." Thus I tried: SELECT CusID, Max(Amount), BidTime FROM Bid WHERE SellID = 10 GROUP BY CusID, BidTime ORDER BY Max(Amount) DESC But this returns all the rows. No distinction. Any suggestions on solving this issue?

  • MBR Booting from DOS

    For a project I would like to invoke the MBR on the first harddisk directly from DOS. I've written a small assembler program that loads the MBR in memory at 0:7c00h an does a far jump to it. I've put my util on a bootable floppy. The disk (HD0, 0x80) i'm trying to boot has a TrueCrypt boot loader on it. It shows up the TrueCrypt screen, but after typing in the password it crashes the system. When I run my little utlility (w00t.com) on a normal WinXP machine it seams to crash immedealty. Apparently I'm forgetting some crucial stuff the BIOS normally does, my guess is it's something trivial. Can someone with better bare-metal DOS and BIOS experience help me out?     I have this code: Category selectedCategory = (from c in DB.Category.Include("SubCategory") join a in DB.Accessory on c.AccCatUID equals a.Category.AccCatUID where a.AccUID == currentAccessory.AccUID select c).FirstOrDefault(); It works fine, selectedCategory gets populated as expected. BUT selectedCategory has a child table 'SubCategory' which does not get loaded even though there is the include there. It is not loaded until I do this: selectedCategory.SubCategory.Load(); Why do I have to call load explicitly in order to load the child table?

    Hello. I have a Core Data model, and was wondering if you know how to create a binding to an Entity, programmatically? Normally you use bind:toObject:withKeyPath:options: to create a binding. But I'm having a little difficulty getting this to work with Core Data, and couldn't find anything in Apple's docs regarding doing this programmatically. The Core Data model is simple: An Entity called Book An Attribute of Book called author (NSString) I have an object called BookController. It looks like so: @interface BookController : NSObject { NSString *anAuthor; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *anAuthor; // @synthesize anAuthor; inside @implementation I'd like to bind anAuthor inside BookController, to author inside a Book entity.     There is a bug in jQuery 1.4.2 that makes change event on select-element getting fired twice when using both DOM-event and a jQuery event, and this only on IE7/8.     Hi, I'm looking for ideas on how to best match two hash tables containing string key/value pairs. Here's the actual problem I'm facing: I have structured data coming in which is imported into the database. I need to UPDATE records which are already in the DB, however, it's possible that ANY value in the source can change, therefore I don't have a reliable ID. I'm thinking of fuzzy matching two rows, source and DB and make an "educated" guess if it should be updated and inserted. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

PHP generated XML: <zone columns="3"> <select column="1" /> <select column="4" /> </zone> MXML format: <mx:zone columns="3"> <mx:select column="1" /> <mx:select column="4" /> </mx:zone> Is that "mx:" prefix required for all the tags? If yes, can I make the XML_Serialize put it before each tag (without renaming my data structure fields to "mx:something")?   • How to break a Hibernate session?

    In the Hibernate reference, it is stated several times that All exceptions thrown by Hibernate are fatal. This means you have to roll back the database transaction and close the current Session. You aren’t allowed to continue working with a Session that threw an exception. One of our legacy apps uses a single session to update/insert many records from files into a DB table. Each recourd update/insert is done in a separate transaction, which is then duly committed (or rolled back in case an error occurred). Then for the next record a new transaction is opened etc. But the same session is used throughout the whole process, even if a HibernateException was caught in the middle. We are using Oracle 9i btw with Hibernate 3.24.sp1 on JBoss 4.2. Reading the above in the book, I realized that this design may fail. So I refactored the app to use a separate session for each record update. In a unit test with a mock session factory, I could prove that it is now requesting a new session for each record update. So far, so good. However, we found no way to reproduce the session failure while testing the whole app (would this be a stress test btw, or ...?). We thought of shutting down the listener of the DB but we realized that the app is keeping a bunch of connections open to the DB, and the listener would not affect those connections. (This is a web app, activated once every night by a scheduler, but it can also be activated via the browser.) Then we tried to kill some of those connections in the DB while the app was processing updates - this resulted in some failed updates, but then the app happily continued. Apparently Hibernate is clever enough to reopen broken connections under the hood without breaking the whole session. So this might not be a critical issue, as our app seems to be robust enough even in its original form. However, the issue keeps bugging me. I would like to know: Under what circumstances does the Hibernate session really become unusable after a HibernateException was thrown? How to reproduce this in a test? (What's the proper term for such a test?)
