I have a 30-minute WMV video which I want to compress to 10 minutes (for YouTube posting) simply by speeding up the action by 3x. Is there a free tool to do this?
Ubuntu 9.1 runs quite slugglish on my old laptop from 2004. Slower than Windows XP that was on there.
It has 512mb RAM and probably 1.2ghz (can't remember) CPU.
I have turned off Visual Effects under Appearance Preferences.
Are there any other tricks to get better performance, or do I just need a better computer to try Ubuntu?
Thanks
I'm looking for a smart-phone with FAST network access in a major U.S. city. But I want it cheaper than the total cost (over say, 3 years) of an iPhone. Does any such device exist?
I now get this instead, for most (but not all) photos. This is the icon which represents the WLPG application, I think.
Some observations:
I can see the thumbnails fine in Explorer, which is where a lot of other people have this problem.
My C:\ drive may have temporarily filled up at some point recently, but then was cleaned up.…
Does anyone know where to find various arguments for msi's, such as installing/running as administrator, or restart after installation.
I am trying to push out an msi update through group policy, but after testing the msi I found out that it needs to be run as administrator to install, and that for it to begin working fully the…
I got a web site design in PSD file from a web-designer. All element s there snap to guides, which is handy when I make a selection to copy an element of design to a PNG file: guides make my selection precise.
One button there has two states: normal and hover. Both states contains of several layers. So I am trying to copy both…
I'm working on a project with 2 sites connected by a VPN. Site 1 has the main server and there is a secondary server at site 2 which I am trying to replace. The current setup works perfectly however I can't for the life of me get the replacement server at site 2 up and running. I'm trying to replace like for like just upgraded…
I have a CentOS 6.2 server.
Whenever some one logs into the server using the terminal (SSH) the user profile (.bash_profile) is loaded.
Now my question is, is there a profile that loads whenever you use SFTP to login into the server via "FTP browsing software" ( I use WinSCP ), I want to send an email whenever a user logs…
I'm looking at a laptop for a colleague which is running terribly slow.
A quick look showed that the CPU was 100% used by 2-3 SVCHost processes, which off course doesn't tell much since those are just 'cover' processes with services running underneath them. So I fired up process explorer in hopes of finding a shady rogue…
If a directory "foo" is owned by user A and contains a directory "bar", which is owned by root, user A can simply remove it with rmdir, which is logical, because "foo" is writable by user A.
But if the directory "bar" contains another root-owned file, the directory can't be removed, because files in it must be removed…
I'm tying to use runit to daemonize JBoss.
I use the /opt/jboss-6.1.0.Final/bin/run.sh script to start the server. When I do so from the comandline, JBoss does not detach (which is what we want), and will also shut down when CTRL+C is pressed. In theory a perfect candidate to use runit on.
Everything works fine…
Hey. I'd like to allow access on a computer connected directly to the internet to one website ONLY.
The solution of IE's "Content advisor" or firefox's "FoxFilter" isn't good enough because it actually downloads the data and just don't display it. I want to block the traffic before the requests are sent.
How is…
I'm trying to use resque as a job runner for Rails. I've tried this config, and many other ways of demonizing the rescue task (because running rake resque:work leaves the terminal tied to that command). Unfortunately, their example configuration doesn't work for me. Does the configuration look correct? Or is…
My laptop has a severe overheating problem, even though it's quite new (< 6 month). It's still regularly overheating to the point where it shuts down. This usually happens while playing games but sometimes while watching videos or using Skype video calls for a long time. I'm already keeping it mid-air on…
In the recent past I was asked to set up a reporting facility for upper management so they can spy on what web sites users are visiting. This was done without any notice given to users. Unfortunately, I have a good friend with some rather unusual tastes who I knew would be caught! He also knew I set up the…
My dad already has a copy of Win 7 Pro (full).
If I buy the upgrade edition of Win 7 Pro (student discount), could I use the full disk to install, then enter the new, upgrade key code to activate it?
I can't seem to get a student discount for the full version.
I'm looking for an online task list tool, what I absolutely need is the infinite number of subtask levels, because that's how my mind works. I don't need collaboration.
There are a lot of great to do list sites out there, but for some reason most of them have only one subtask level or no subtasks at all.…
this works:
{=MEDIAN((Table1[MonthFinish]=201012)*(Table1[Days]))}

{=MEDIAN((Table1[MonthFinish]=A3)*(Table1[Days]))}
when i do Evaluate Formula on the 2nd one...I see that there are double quotes about the 201012 that was pulled from…
I have the problem that loading a certain webpage in firefox automatically opens the printer dialog. How is that?
Additional information:
This only happens on firefox 24.0 on Windows 7. It neither happens on Windows Explorer in Windows 7 nor on Firefox 24 on a Linux system.
This also happens…
Hi, I have Windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram and 1152mb is hardware reserved which leaves me with 7039mb of physical memory available as I can see on the task manager. What is the advantage or disadvantage of keeping it this way?
If I disable it from the MSCONFIG, the hardware reserved comes down to…
I am not familiar with Windows very much, and I have trouble installing a MMC certificate. I am following this description to use MMC to create a certificate, but I cannot complete the step labeled ' Install or view the certificates under:'. There is nothing unter 'ConsoleRoot' -…
I work for an animal shelter in Upstate New York. We have about 50 machines running XP Pro. They're connected to a Windows network with a domain.
About half of these computers are used for nothing more than using two web-based apps -- one to keep track of our animals, the…
