  • Apache: Setting up local test server with subdomains

    Hi everyone, I have XAMPP running on my desktop machine, and I do all my work on it with no issue. http://localhost ---> points to public_html http://site1.localhost ---> points to site 1 http://site2.localhost ---> points to site 2 http://site3.localhost ---> points to site 3 Entering the above URLs in my web browser on the machine with Apache works great, and I can work on multiple sites within distinct subdomains. But what I want to do now is to transfer Apache and all the files to another Windows 7 machine within the LAN, but still be able to view the subdomains from my main development machine. With a vanilla XAMPP installation on the new hosting machine, entering the IP address of that machine (e.g. 192.168.1.10) into my development computer would send me to the main public_html folder. But how do I set up subdomains such that I can access it externally? For example, http://site1.devmachine Thanks for any help.

  • Apache Virtual Host with directory aliases

    Hi, I'm trying to set up a dynamic virtual host in apache with a directory alias pointing to a difirent path for every domain. Here's what I'm trying to achive. Say I have 2 domains: * www.domain1.com * www.domein2.com I want both to point to the same index.php file (C:/cms/index.php). Now the hard part ... I want directories or certain file types to point to a diffirent path for each domain. Example: * www.domain1.com/layout -> C:/store/www.domain1.com/layout * www.domain2.com/layout -> C:/store/www.domain2.com/layout * www.domain1.com/image.png -> C:/store/www.domain1.com/image.png * www.domain2.com/image.png -> C:/store/www.domain2.com/image.png However the admin directory should point to the same path again for all sites * www.domain1.com/admin -> C:/cms/admin * www.domain2.com/admin -> C:/cms/admin Is there a way to achieve this kind of behaviour in apache 2.2 without having to create a virtualhost entry for each new domain?

  • Concatenating gziped Apache logs

    We rotate and compress our Apache logs each day but it's become apparent that this isn't frequently enough. An uncompressed log is about 6G, which is getting close to filling our log partition (yep, we'll make it bigger in the future!) as well as taking a lot of time and CPU to compress each day. We have to produce a gziped log for each day for our stats processing. Obviously we could move our logs to a partition with more space but I also want to spread the compression overhead throughout the day. Using Apache's rotatelogs we can rotate and compress the log more often -- hourly, say -- but how can I concatenate all the hourly compressed logs into a running compressed log for the day, without decompressing the previous logs? I don't want to uncompress 24 hours' worth of data and recompress it because that has all the disadvantages of our current solution. Gzip doesn't seem to offer any append or concatenate option but perhaps I've missed something obvious. This question suggests straight shell concatenation "works" in that the archive can be decompressed but that gzip -l doesn't work seems a bit dodgy. Alternatively, perhaps this is still a bad way to do things. Other suggestions are welcome -- our only constraints are our relatively small log partitions and the need to provide a daily compressed log.

  • nginx reverse proxy cannot access apache virtual hosts

    I am setting up nginx as a reverse proxy. The server runs on directadmin and lamp stack. I have nginx running on port 81. I can access all my sites (including virtual ips) on the port 81. However when I forward the traffic from port 80 to 81, the virtual ips have a message saying "Apache is running normally". Server IPs are fine, and I can still access virtual IP's on 81. The server times out because of the large volume of data. I can however specify the max limit in code and that works [ServiceBehavior(MaxItemsInObjectGraph=2147483646, IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true)] public abstract class MyService : MyService { blah... } Does anyone know why I can't make this work through a web.config setting? I would like to keep in the web.config so it is easier for future updates.

  • Changing App.config at Runtime

    I'm writing a test winforms / C# / .NET 3.5 application for the system we're developing and we fell in the need to switch between .config files at runtime, but this is turning out to be a nightmare. Here's the scene: the Winforms application is aimed at testing a WebApp, divided into 5 subsystems. The test proccess works with messages being sent between the subsystems, and for this proccess to be sucessful each subsystem got to have its own .config file. For my Test Application I wrote 5 separate configuration files. I wish I was able to switch between these 5 files during runtime, but the problem is: I can programatically edit the application .config file inumerous times, but these changes will only take effect once. I've been searching a long time for a form to address this problem but I still wasn't sucessful. I know the problem definition may be a bit confusing but I would really appreciate it if someone helped me. Thanks in advance! --- UPDATE 01-06-10 --- There's something I didn't mention before. Originally, our system is a Web Application with WCF calls between each subsystem. For performance testing reasons (we're using ANTS 4), we had to create a local copy of the assemblies and reference them from the test project.   • Including variables inside curly braces in a Zend config ini file on Linux

    I am trying to include a variable in a .ini file setting by surrounding it with curly braces, and Zend is complaining that it cannot parse it properly on Linux. It works properly on Windows, though: welcome_message = Welcome, {0}.   • Dynamic Connection Strings for Strongly Typed DataSet in a Class Library using App.Config

    This is my first question on StackOverflow.com and I'm not sure if this is the correct way to do this. I found a similar question titled: Modifying the Data Source for the Strongly Typed Dataset Connection String. However, the answer provided is not working for me. I'm not able to comment on it because I don't have enough "reputation points" (again, I just signed up), and I didn't want to provide an "answer", because I don't know the correct answer. My problem is that I need to be able to modify the connection string inside the generated myproject.dll.config file, but doing so has no effect for me at all. My library still uses the default connection string that was setup at design time. I've tried everything I know to try, but still no luck. I've tried working around the issue using multiple different approaches, but still the problem persists. I can't find any help on the internet with my specific problem either. It would be great if somebody could shed some light as to why my modified config file isn't being read. Useful information: I'm using a Strongly Typed DataSet I don't know the actual connection string at design time. The app.config doesn't allow me to specify a 'User' scoped connection string. I'm tied to a class library (no Windows Forms) Thank you for any help! Luc

  • HTML5 media loading sometimes suspends or aborts: misconfigured Apache?

    Recently, some code that has been working fine for months started to run unexpectedly. That code is just a media files loading JavaScript function, that uses jQuery. It's pretty long, but in essence it is like this: var $audio=$('<audio>'); $audio.on('canplaythrough',function(e){ $audio[0].play(); }); $audio.attr('src','song.ogg'); Basically, the file only loads sometimes, and sometimes stops loading with a suspend or even an abort event. I have uploaded a little testing HTML to http://www.joanbotella.com/tests/loading , where you can see what's happening. You can download the test files from http://www.joanbotella.com/tests/loading/loadingTest.zip for local testing. I have just checked that opening the test index.html file directly into Firefox, and not through my localhost Apache server, makes the audio files perfectly playable. So, I assume, my hosting and I have the Apache server misconfigured for serving media files. My software versions are: Apache 2.2.22-1ubuntu1.7 , Mozilla Firefox 31.0 , Chromium 36.0.1985.125 and jQuery 1.11.0. Can you help me? Thanks in advance!

    I am listing a couple of stuff that I want people to download for my school and remembered that some sites had directory browsing done with cool little icons displaying the file types. I wanted to do this myself and felt that the default directory browsing of apache is just too plain and IndexOptions +FancyIndexing is a bit 'old'. Any nice jQuery based Web 2.0ish stuff out there for this particular purpose. The files are .debs, .exes, .iso, .zip etc. Thanks!

  • Apache and file permissions

    I'm running LAMP on Ubuntu 8.04. Apache's username and group are www-data. I put my connection details and AES key in a file in a directory that's not web served. I chown-ed the files to www-data:www-data and set the permissions to 700. Still, the script that require()s these files will only run if I chmod the files to 755. What am I missing?
