  I am developing some external modules for an application. These modules are BPL files and if present in the application folder the application loads them and uses whatever is available inside. How can I prevent the sharing of these modules by my clients? I need them to be authorized to use the modules (module by module).   When you run the same web based application as a multi-tenant application for different clients is there a way during the PreapplicationStartMethod to gain some kind of context to the site that is being started? More specifically I'd like to get the host header information (the "bindingInformation" attribute value from the applicationHost.config); I have found ways to get this information at the time of a specific request long after the application has started. Is there a way to get the information during the application startup process? This is an MVC 3 application and IIS 7.5.

• Using pkexec policy to run out of /opt/

  I still try to make it possible to run my app with root priveleges. Therefore I created two policies to run the application via pkexec (one for /usr/bin and one for /opt/extras... ) and added them to the setup.py: data_files=[('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.extras.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/bin/', ['data/armorforge-pkexec'])] ) additionally I added a startscript which uses pkexec for starting the application. It distinguishes between the two places and is used in the Exec-Statement of the desktopfile: #!/bin/sh if [ -f /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge ]; then pkexec "/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge" "$@" else pkexec `which armorforge` "$@" fi If I simply do a quickly package everything will work right. But if I package with extras option: quickly package --extras the Exec-statement will be exchanged. Even if I try to simulate the pkexec call via armorforge-pkexec It will aks for a password and then returns this: andre@andre-desktop:~/Entwicklung/Ubuntu/armorforge$ armorforge-pkexec (armorforge:10108): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.desktop.interface' is not installed Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped) So ok, I could not trick the opt-thing. How can I make sure, that my Application will run with root priveleges out of opt. I copied the way of using pkexec from synaptic. My application is for communicating with apparmor which currently has no dbus interface. Else I need to write into /etc/apparmor.d-folder. How should I deal with the opt-build which, as far as I understand, is required to submit my application to the ubuntu software center. Thanks for any hints and/or links :-)

  I am a little bit puzzled about something. I am creating a ASP.NET MVC eCommerce application and currently I have written all the back end in ASP.NET MVC. I was thinking if its better to write all the management in WPF instead of HTML, as its probably even less prone to be exploited by hackers. I am a Windows user so I am not really bothered about using Linux/Mac at the moment so I am quite aware that having all the back-end written in HTML will allow users to have access to the admin area using other OS. I would like to see what are the advantages and disadvantages of having WPF to manage the content of the website as its probably much easier to develop and manage (think about Live Writer).

• WPF TreeViewItem Context Menu Unhighlights Item

  I have been having problems with this for some time now, and have come up with some less-than-desirable solutions. The problem is that when a TreeViewItem's context menu is opened, the TreeViewItem is greyed out. Is it possible for a TreeViewItem to stay highlighted while its ContextMenu is open? The problem with the TreeViewItem greying out, is that it gives no relation to the context menu and the TreeViewItem, and it looks ugly. Generally, the code I use for setting a context menu is this. Sometimes the context menu will be generated by the code with a PreviewRightMouseButtonDown EventSetter, but it doesn't make a difference. <TreeView> <TreeView.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type TreeViewItem}"> <Setter Property="ContextMenu"> <Setter.Value> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 1" /> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 2" /> </ContextMenu> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </TreeView.Resources> <TreeViewItem Header="Item 1"> <TreeViewItem Header="Sub-Item 1"/> </TreeViewItem> <TreeViewItem Header="Item 2"></TreeViewItem> </TreeView> So far the only solution I have found is to override the "grey" unfocused color with the focused color, but then the TreeView never seems unfocused, such as when another control is clicked on. I have had problems with ListViews as well.

• How to pass a Context when using acts_as_taggable_on for assigning tags

  I am using acts_as_taggable_on for assigning 'fixed' categories as well as free' tags to a Company model. My question is how I can pass the correct tag Context for the two different kinds of tags in the form view. For instance, I would like the user to click all the "sector" categories that apply to a company, and then be freely allowed to add additional tags. At this point, the only way I have gotten this to work is through the company model (inspired by this question): # models/company.rb class Company ... acts_as_taggable_on :sectors, :tags has_many :sector_tags, :through => :taggings, :source => :tag, has_many :taggings, :as => :taggable, :include => :tag, :class_name => "ActsAsTaggableOn::Tagging", :conditions => { :taggable_type => "Company", :context => "sectors" } ... end in the form (using the simple_form gem) I have... # views/companies/_form.html.haml = simple_form_for @company do |f| = f.input :name = f.association :sector_tags, :as => :check_boxes, :hint => "Please click all that apply" = f.input :tag_list But this obviously causes the two tag types ("sectors" and "tags") to be of the same "sectors" context which is not what I want. Can anyone hint at how I can pass the relevant Context ("sectors") in the form where the user assigns the sector tags? Or maybe I can pass it in the "has_many :sector_tags ..." line in the Company model? A related question is if this is a good way to do it at all? Would I be better off just using a Category model for assigning sector tags through a joint model? Thanks!

• Issues Deploying ROOT Context in Tomcat6

  I'm working on getting an application deployed to the ROOT ("/") context in my Tomcat 6 instance. Here's what has been done: Defined another virtual host (domain.com) Created the respective folder (/etc/tomcat6/Catalina/domain.com) Set it to auto deploy WAR's Set appBase to CATALINA_BASE/domainapps and created respective folder Copied manager.xml from localhost to domain.com. Now I'm trying to deploy into the ROOT context by uploading a ROOT.war to CATALINA_BASE/domainapps. This isn't working. I don't get any exceptions thrown, but the stock ROOT page ("It works !") stays up. I have successfully deployed it into another context (by uploading domainapp.war and viewing at /domainapp), but not ROOT. Re-reading the Virtual Host setup it makes reference to CATALINA_HOME and CATALINA_BASE. My CATALINA_HOME is at /usr/share/tomcat6/domainapp while CATALINA_BASE is /var/lib/tomcat6. Which should I be using for what? Currently haven't touched CATALINA_HOME but will try messing with a few things there. A better question might be what is the generally accepted flow taken to setup a new Tomcat instance and deploy an application to the root context.

  Hi. I have a panel which holds many pictureboxes. Each picturebox has registered "contextRightMenu" as their context menu. What i want when the context menu pops up is to get the current mouseposition. I have tried getting the mouseposition by using mouseDown and click, but these events happens after one of the items of the context menu is clicked, and that is too late. the popup event of the context menu does not deliver mouse event args, so i don't know how to get the mouseposition. If i can get mouse event args it is easy. • Context path routing in Tomcat ( service swapping )

  Here is what I would like to achieve: I have a web service A which I want to be able to deploy side by side with other web services of type A - different version(s). For now I assume 2 instances side by side. I need it because the service has a warm up stage, which takes some time to build up stuff from DB and only after it is ready it can start serving requests ... I was thinking to deploy to Tomcat context paths like: "/ServiceA-1.0", "/ServiceA-2.0" and then have a "virtual" context like "/ServiceA" which will point to the desired physical service e.g. "/ServiceA-1.0". So external world will know about ServiceA, but internally, my ServiceA related stack would know about versioned ServiceA url ( there are more components involved but only ServiceA is serving outer world ). When new service is ready, I would just reconfigure the "virtual" context to point to a new service. So far, I was not able to find out how to do this with Tomcat and starting to tkink it is not possible. I found suggestions to place Apache Server in front of Tomcat and do the routing there, but I do not want to enroll another piece of software unless necessary. My questions are: - is this kind of a "virtual" context and routing possible to do with Tomcat? - any other options, wisdom and lessons learned how to achieve this kind of service swapping scenario?   I'm confused about the errors generated by the following code. In Derived::doStuff, I can access Base::output directly by calling it. Why can't I create a pointer to output() in the same context that I can call output()? (I thought protected / private governed whether you could use a name in a specific context, but apparently that is incomplete?) • Converting a Visual Studio 2003 Web Project to a Visual Studio 2008 Web Application Project

  This walkthrough describes how to convert a Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio .NET 2003 Web project to a Visual Studio 2008 Web application project. The Visual Studio 2008 Web application project model is like the Visual Studio 2005 Web application project model. Therefore, the conversion processes are similar. For more information about Web application projects, see ASP.NET Web Application Projects. You can also convert from a Visual Studio .NET Web project to a Visual Studio 2008 Web site project. However, conversion to a Web application project is the approach that is supported, and gives you the convenience of tools to help with the conversion. For example, when you convert to a Visual Studio 2008 Web application project, you can use the Visual Studio Conversion Wizard to automate part of the process. For information about how to convert a Visual Studio .NET Web project to a Visual Studio 2008 Web site, see Common Web Project Conversion Issues and Solutions. There are two parts involved in converting a Visual Studio 2002 or 2003 Web project to a Visual Studio 2008 Web application project. The parts are as follows: Converting the project. You can use the Visual Studio Conversion Wizard for the initial conversion of the project and Web.config files. You can later use the Convert To Web Application command to update the project's files and structure. Upgrading the .NET Framework version of the project. If debugging is not enabled, the Debugging Not Enabled dialog box is displayed. Select the option to add a Web.config file that has debugging enabled, and then click OK. Verify that the converted project runs as expected. Do not continue with the conversion process until all build and run-time errors are resolved. Converting ASP.NET Code Files    ASP.NET Web page files and user-control files in Visual Studio 2008 that use the code-behind model have an associated designer file. The files that you just converted will have an associated code-behind file, but no designer file. Therefore, the next step is to generate designer files. NoteOnly ASP.NET Web pages and user controls that have their code in a separate code file require a separate designer file. For pages that have inline code and no associated code file, no designer file will be generated.To convert ASP.NET code files In Solution Explorer, right-click the project node, and then click Convert To Web Application. The files are converted. Verify that the converted code files have a code file and a designer file. Build and run the project to verify the results of the conversion.

• Unity panel, and application functionality

  From the Unity panel, left-clicking on an application that has multiple instances open displays the Spread Mode, but left-clicking on a solitary application does absolutely nothing. Personally, whenever I left-click on an open application, I expect it to either minimize or maximize, and I'd like to know if there's a way to get that functionality from Unity when left-clicking on a solitary application. I'm currently running Ubuntu 12.10. Thanks.

At fist I tought that [global] and[lns default] were just a comment.

  Hello, I try to run Mesa gears example and I get following error: freeglut (./gears): Unable to create direct context rendering for window 'Gears' This may hurt performance. though the application runs successfully, but I guess that in future I will have much problems with productivity. I run Linux CentOS 5 on WMvare 7. Mesa's version is 6.5 Relevant output of lspci -v gives: 00:0f.0 VGA compatible controller: VMware SVGA II Adapter (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: VMware SVGA II Adapter Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 9 I/O ports at 10d0 [size=16] Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8M] [virtual] Expansion ROM at 30000000 [disabled] [size=32K] Capabilities: [40] Vendor Specific Information Any one have idea? • Should a database server be in a different VM instance as an application?

  I'm setting up a database server as a separate VM in my server so that I can control resources, and make backups of just that instance. I own a server that will reside in a colo soon. Is this the best way to approach my DB regarding scalability? Are there any security concerns? Do I listen at localhost still, even though it's a separate instance? And, is there any benefit to running your DB (PostgreSQL in my case) in the same machine as your application (web based SAAS application in my case)?

• Remove context menu items

  When I right click on a file and select open with, there are a bunch of irrelevant entries that I will never use. A lot of them are bits of the OS (e.g. Core Image Funhouse.app on image files) or at best dubious (I doubt I will ever want to open a .txt using Illustrator). Is there any way to remove items from the Open With menu? This is on OSX Lion 10.7.5. The only questions I could find related to this were about uninstalled programs remaining in the context menu. Thanks!
