  • Sybase: how can I remove non-printable characters from CHAR or VARCHAR fields with SQL?

    - by Kenny Drobnack
I'm working with a Sybase database that seems to have non-printable characters in some of the string fields and this is throwing off some of our processing code. At first glance, it seemed to only be newlines and carriage returns, but we also have an ASCII code 27 in there - an ESC character, some accented characters, and some other oddities in there. I have no direct access to change the database, so changing the bad data isn't an option, yet. For now I have to make do with just filtering it out. We're trying to export the table data from one database and load it into a database used by another application in a nightly batch process. Ideally, I'd like to have a function that I can pass a list of characters and just have Sybase return the data with those characters removed. I'd like to keep it something we could do in plain SQL if possible. Something like this to remove characters that are ASCII 0 - 31. select str_replace(FIELD1, (0-31), NULL) as FIELD1, str_replace(FIELD2, (0-31), NULL) as FIELD2 from TABLE So far, str_replace is the nearest I can find, but it only allows replacing one string with another. No support for character ranges and won't let me do the above. We're running on Sybase ASE 12.5 on Unix servers.

  • Content-disposition:inline header won't show images inline?

    - by hamstar
I'm trying to show an image inline on a page. It is being served by a codeigniter controller. class Asset extends MY_Controller { function index( $folder, $file ) { $asset = "assets/$folder/$file"; if ( !file_exists( $asset ) ) { show_404(); return; } switch ( $folder ) { case 'css': header('Content-type: text/css'); break; case 'js': header('Content-type: text/javascript'); break; case 'images': $ext = substr( $file, strrpos($file, '.') ); switch ( $ext ) { case 'jpg': $ext = 'jpeg'; break; case 'svg': $ext = 'svg+xml'; break; } header('Content-Disposition: inline'); header('Content-type: image/'.$ext); } readfile( $asset ); } } When I load a image in Chrome of FF its pops up the download window. I know when the browser can't display the content inline it will force a download anyway, but these are PNG and GIF images which display in the browser fine otherwise. In IE it doesn't force a download but it displays the image in ASCII. If I comment out the entire image case it FF and Chrome both display the ASCII but not the image. I thought setting the content type would allow FF and Chrome to show the actual image, and also allow the location to be used as an src. The javascript and css shows fine of course. Anyone got any ideas how I can make the images show properly? Thanks :)

  • There is no attachment in the sent mail by iPhone

    - by naruhodo
I'm trying to send a recorded sound file as attachment with MFMailComposeViewController. The sound file is OK. The picker shows the correct file name, shows the audio file icon as attachment, sends the mail, but there is no attachment in the result. I attached below the source of the sent mail. There is a "text/plain" content type part instead of "Content-Disposition: attachment;" as expected. This is my code code to define the path and attach the audio file. • UnicodeDecodeError on attempt to save file through django default filebased backend

    - by Ivan Kuznetsov
When i attempt to add a file with russian symbols in name to the model instance through default instance.file_field.save method, i get an UnicodeDecodeError (ascii decoding error, not in range (128) from the storage backend (stacktrace ended on os.exist). If i write this file through default python file open/write all goes right. All filenames in utf-8. I get this error only on testing Gentoo, on my Ubuntu workstation all works fine. class Article(models.Model): file = models.FileField(null=True, blank=True, max_length = 300, upload_to='articles_files/%Y/%m/%d/') Traceback: File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py" in get_response 100. response = callback(request, *callback_args, **callback_kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/auth/decorators.py" in _wrapped_view 24. return view_func(request, *args, **kwargs) File "/var/www/localhost/help/wiki/views.py" in edit_article 338. new_article.file.save(fp, fi, save=True) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/fields/files.py" in save 92. self.name = self.storage.save(name, content) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py" in save 47. name = self.get_available_name(name) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py" in get_available_name 73. while self.exists(name): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/core/files/storage.py" in exists 196. return os.path.exists(self.path(name)) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/genericpath.py" in exists 18. st = os.stat(path) Exception Type: UnicodeEncodeError at /edit/ Exception Value: ('ascii', u'/var/www/localhost/help/i/articles_files/2010/03/17/\u041f\u0440\u0438\u0432\u0435\u0442', 52, 58, 'ordinal not in range(128)')

  • How can I read a DBF file with incorrectly defined column data types using ADO.NET?

    - by Jason
    I have a several DBF files generated by a third party that I need to be able to query. I am having trouble because all of the column types have been defined as characters, but the data within some of these fields actually contain binary data. If I try to read these fields using an OleDbDataReader as anything other than a string or character array, I get an InvalidCastException thrown, but I need to be able to read them as a binary value or at least cast/convert them after they are read. The columns that actually DO contain text are being returned as expected. For example, the very first column is defined as a character field with a length of 2 bytes, but the field contains a 16-bit integer. I have written the following test code to read the first column and convert it to the appropriate data type, but the value is not coming out right. The first row of the database has a value of 17365 (0x43D5) in the first column. Running the following code, what I end up getting is 17215 (0x433F). I'm pretty sure it has to do with using the ASCII encoding to get the bytes from the string returned by the data reader, but I'm not sure of another way to get the value into the format that I need, other that to write my own DBF reader and bypass ADO.NET altogether which I don't want to do unless I absolutely have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. byte[] c0; int i0; string con = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\ASTM;Extended Properties=dBASE III;User ID=Admin;Password=;"; using (OleDbConnection c = new OleDbConnection(con)) { c.Open(); OleDbCommand cmd = c.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM astm2007"; OleDbDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); while (dr.Read()) { c0 = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(dr.GetValue(0).ToString()); i0 = BitConverter.ToInt16(c0, 0); } dr.Dispose(); }

  • Reading UTF-8 XML and writing it to a file with Python

    - by Harri
I'm trying to parse UTF-8 XML file and save some parts of it to another file. Problem is, that this is my first Python script ever and I'm totally confused about the character encoding problems I'm finding. My script fails immediately when it tries to write non-ascii character to a file, but it can print it to command prompt (at least in some level) Here's the XML (from the parts that matter at least, it's a *.resx file which contains UI strings) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <root> <resheader name="foo"> <value>bar</value> </resheader> <data name="lorem" xml:space="preserve"> <value>ipsum öä</value> </data> </root> And here's my python script from xml.dom.minidom import parse names = [] values = [] def getStrings(path): dom = parse(path) data = dom.getElementsByTagName("data") for i in range(len(data)): name = data[i].getAttribute("name") names.append(name) value = data[i].getElementsByTagName("value") values.append(value[0].firstChild.nodeValue.encode("utf-8")) def writeToFile(): with open("uiStrings-fi.py", "w") as f: for i in range(len(names)): line = names[i] + '="'+ values[i] + '"' #varName='varValue' f.write(line) f.write("\n") getStrings("ResourceFile.fi-FI.resx") writeToFile() And here's the traceback: Traceback (most recent call last): File "GenerateLanguageFiles.py", line 24, in writeToFile() File "GenerateLanguageFiles.py", line 19, in writeToFile line = names[i] + '="'+ values[i] + '"' #varName='varValue' UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 2: ordinal not in ran ge(128) How should I fix my script so it would read and write UTF-8 characters properly? The files I'm trying to generate would be used in test automation with Robots Framework.

  • Overwriting lines in file in C

    - by KáGé
    Hi, I'm doing a project on filesystems on a university operating systems course, my C program should simulate a simple filesystem in a human-readable file, so the file should be based on lines, a line will be a "sector". I've learned, that lines must be of the same length to be overwritten, so I'll pad them with ascii zeroes till the end of the line and leave a certain amount of lines of ascii zeroes that can be filled later. Now I'm making a test program to see if it works like I want it to, but it doesnt. The critical part of my code: file = fopen("irasproba_tesztfajl.txt", "r+"); //it is previously loaded with 10 copies of the line I'll print later in reverse order /* this finds the 3rd line */ int count = 0; //how much have we gone yet? char c; while(count != 2) { if((c = fgetc(file)) == '\n') count++; } fflush(file); fprintf(file, "- . , M N B V C X Y Í U Á É L K J H G F D S A Ú O P O I U Z T R E W Q Ó Ü Ö 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0\n"); fflush(file); fclose(file); Now it does nothing, the file stays the same. What could be the problem? Thank you.

  • How can I run a local Windows Application and have the output be piped into the Browser.

    - by Trey Sherrill
I have Windows Application (.EXE file is written in C and built with MS-Visual Studio), that outputs ASCII text to stdout. I’m looking to enhance the ASCII text to include limited HTML with a few links. I’d like to invoke this application (.EXE File) and take the output of that application and pipe it into a Browser. This is not a one time thing, each new web page would be another run of the Local Application! The HTML/java-script application below has worked for me to execute the application, but the output has gone into a DOS Box windows and not to pipe it into the Browser. I’d like to update this HTML Application to enable the Browser to capture that text (that is enhanced with HTML) and display it with the browser. <body> <script> function go() { w = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell"); w.run('C:/DL/Browser/mk_html.exe'); return true; } </script> <form> Run My Application (Window with explorer only) <input type="button" value="Go" onClick="return go()"> </FORM> </body>

  • SEO: A whois server that work for .SE domains?

    - by Niels Bosma
I'm developing a small domain checker and I can't get .SE to work: public string Lookup(string domain, RecordType recordType, SeoToolsSettings.Tld tld) { TcpClient tcp = new TcpClient(); tcp.Connect(tld.WhoIsServer, 43); string strDomain = recordType.ToString() + " " + domain + "\r\n"; byte[] bytDomain = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(strDomain.ToCharArray()); Stream s = tcp.GetStream(); s.Write(bytDomain, 0, strDomain.Length); StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(tcp.GetStream(), Encoding.ASCII); string strLine = ""; StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(); while (null != (strLine = sr.ReadLine())) { builder.AppendLine(strLine); } tcp.Close(); if (tld.WhoIsDelayMs > 0) System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(tld.WhoIsDelayMs); return builder.ToString(); } I've tried whois servers whois.nic-se.se and whois.iis.se put I keep getting: # Copyright (c) 1997- .SE (The Internet Infrastructure Foundation). # All rights reserved. # The information obtained through searches, or otherwise, is protected # by the Swedish Copyright Act (1960:729) and international conventions. # It is also subject to database protection according to the Swedish # Copyright Act. # Any use of this material to target advertising or # similar activities is forbidden and will be prosecuted. # If any of the information below is transferred to a third # party, it must be done in its entirety. This server must # not be used as a backend for a search engine. # Result of search for registered domain names under # the .SE top level domain. # The data is in the UTF-8 character set and the result is # printed with eight bits. "domain google.se" not found. Edit: I've tried changing to UTF8 with no other result. When I try using whois from sysinternals I get the correct result, but not with my code, not even using SE.whois-servers.net. /Niels

  • Help decrypting in ColdFusion passwords created in .NET

I have a SQL db storing passwords that were encrypted through a .NET application, that I need to decrypt through a ColdFusion app. I just can't seem to get things set upproperly for the CF decryption to work. • F# Async problem.

    - by chrisdew
Hi, I've written a dummy http server as an exercise in F#. I'm using Mono 2.4.4 on Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64, with MonoDevelop. The following code fails to compile with the error: Error FS0039: The field, constructor or member 'Spawn' is not defined (FS0039) Could someone try this in VisualStudio please, I don't know whether this is a Mono problem, or my problem. I have tried several Async examples from the F# book, and they also all produce similar messages about Async.* methods. Thanks, Chris. #light open System open System.IO open System.Threading open System.Net open System.Net.Sockets open Microsoft.FSharp.Control.CommonExtensions printfn "%s" "Hello World!" let headers = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("HTTP/1.0 200 OK\r\nContent-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8\r\nContent-Length: 37\r\nDate: Sun, 13 Jun 2010 05:30:00 GMT\r\nServer: FSC/0.0.1\r\n\r\n") let content = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("<html><body>Hello World</body></html>") let serveAsync (client : TcpClient) = async { let out = client.GetStream() do! out.AsyncWrite(headers) do! • Best terminal environment for Cygwin/Windows?

    - by Anders Sandvig
Today I run Cygwin with rxvt using the following startup line: rxvt -bg black -sl 8192 -fg white -sr -g 150x56 -fn "Fixedsys" -e /usr/bin/bash --login -i This gives me a resizeable native Windows window which is much better than the standard "DOS box" the default cygwin.bat provides. However, the current configuration does have a couple of issues: I am not able to enter non-ASCII characters into the terminal window (i.e. æ, ø, å and Æ, Ø, Å, which I use semi-frequently. In fact, the terminal will not even accept them when I paste them into the window. If I paste a string like "bølle" (Norwegian for "bulley"), all I get is "blle". I am not able to render UTF-8 character, they only show as ?, even if they are supported by the font (i.e. when rendering the same characters in ISO-8859-1 they show just fine.). I am running English Windows Vista with locale and keyboard layout set to Norwegian (ISO-8859-1 character set?), but I've had the exact same issue on Windows 2000 and XP. Anyone knows how to fix this (i.e. a better way to configure rxvt)? Apart from the issues mentioned above, I'm very happy with rxvt, so if I find a way to resolve them I'd like to continue using it. However, if the issues are not (easily) solvable, are the any other good terminal solutions for Cygwin? Update The solution provided by Andy and Mattias (editing the .inputrc file) did solve the input problem, but output rendering is still an issue. Output is fine when I render in ISO-8859-1, but when using UTF-8 I only get ? for non-ASCII characters. This behavior is consistent between rxvt, urxvt (under Cygwin XFree X Server), mintty and PuttyCyg. Is there a similar configuration file where output encoding can be set (i.e. the equivalent of setting output locale on a Linux system)?

  • How do I read text from a serial port?

    - by user2164
I am trying to read data off of a Windows serial port through Java. I have the javax.comm libraries and am able to get some data but not correct data. When I read the port into a byte array and convert it to text I get a series of characters but no real text string. I have tried to specify the byte array as being both "UTF-8" and "US-ASCII". Does anyone know how to get real text out of this? Here is my code: while (inputStream.available() > 0) { int numBytes = inputStream.read(readBuffer); System.out.println("Reading from " + portId.getName() + ": "); System.out.println("Read " + numBytes + " bytes"); } System.out.println(new String(readBuffer)); System.out.println(new String(readBuffer, "UTF-8")); System.out.println(new String(readBuffer, "US-ASCII")); the output of the first three lines will not let me copy and paste (I assume because they are not normal characters). Here is the output of the Hex: 78786000e67e9e60061e8606781e66e0869e98e086f89898861878809e1e9880 I am reading from a Hollux GPS device which does output in string format. I know this for sure because I did it through C#. The settings that I am using for communication which I know are right from the work in the C# app are: Baud Rate: 9600 Databits: 8 Stop bit: 1 parity: none

  • Sending jpegs by tcp socket...sometimes incomplete.

    - by Guy
Vb.net Hi I've been working on a project for months now (vb 2008 express). There is one final problem which I can't solve. I need to send images to a client from a 'server'(listener). The code below works most of the time but sometimes the image is incomplete. I believe this might be something to do with the tcp packet sizes varying, maybe limited by how busy it is out there on the net. I have seen examples of code that splits the image into chunks and sends them out, but I can't get them to work maybe because I'm using a different vb version. The pictures to be sent are small 20k max. Any working code examples would be wonderful. I have been experimenting and failing with this final hurdle for weeks. Thanks in anticipation. • How do I access the CodeDomProvider from a class inheriting from Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite?

    - by Charlie
Does anyone know how to get a CodeDomProvider in the new Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite from the Visual Studio 2010 SDK? I used to get access to it just by in mere inheritance of the class Microsoft.CustomTool.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite, but now with this new class it is not there. I see a GlobalServiceProvider and a SiteServiceProvider but I can't find any example on how to use them. Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb932625.aspx I was to do this: public class Generator : Microsoft.VisualStudio.TextTemplating.VSHost.BaseCodeGeneratorWithSite { public override string GetDefaultExtension() { // GetDefaultExtension IS ALSO NOT ACCESSIBLE... return this.InputFilePath.Substring(this.InputFilePath.LastIndexOf(".")) + ".designer" + base.GetDefaultExtension(); } // This method is being called every time the attached xml is saved. protected override byte[] GenerateCode(string inputFileName, string inputFileContent) { try { // Try to generate the wrapper file. return GenerateSourceCode(inputFileName); } catch (Exception ex) { // In case of a faliure - print the exception // as a comment in the source code. return GenerateExceptionCode(ex); } } public byte[] GenerateSourceCode(string inputFileName) { Dictionary<string, CodeCompileUnit> oCodeUnits; // THIS IS WHERE CodeProvider IS NOT ACCESSIBLE CodeDomProvider oCodeDomProvider = this.CodeProvider; string[] aCode = new MyCustomAPI.GenerateCode(inputFileName, ref oCodeDomProvider); return Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(String.Join(@" ", aCode)); } private byte[] GenerateExceptionCode(Exception ex) { CodeCompileUnit oCode = new CodeCompileUnit(); CodeNamespace oNamespace = new CodeNamespace("System"); oNamespace.Comments.Add(new CodeCommentStatement(MyCustomAPI.Print(ex))); oCode.Namespaces.Add(oNamespace); string sCode = null; using (StringWriter oSW = new StringWriter()) { using (IndentedTextWriter oITW = new IndentedTextWriter(oSW)) { this.CodeProvider.GenerateCodeFromCompileUnit(oCode, oITW, null); sCode = oSW.ToString(); } } return Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(sCode ); } } Thanks for your help!

  • Testing Broadcasting and receiving messages

    - by Avik
Guys am having some difficulty figuring this out: I am trying to test whether the code(in c#) to broadcast a message and receiving the message works: The code to send the datagram(in this case its the hostname) is: public partial class Form1 : Form { String hostName; byte[] hostBuffer = new byte[1024]; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); StartNotification(); } public void StartNotification() { IPEndPoint notifyIP = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Broadcast, 6000); hostName = Dns.GetHostName(); hostBuffer = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(hostName); UdpClient newUdpClient = new UdpClient(); newUdpClient.Send(hostBuffer, hostBuffer.Length, notifyIP); } } And the code to receive the datagram is: public partial class Form1 : Form { byte[] receivedNotification = new byte[1024]; String notificationReceived; StringBuilder listBox; UdpClient udpServer; IPEndPoint remoteEndPoint; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); udpServer = new UdpClient(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 1234)); remoteEndPoint=null; startUdpListener1(); } public void startUdpListener1() { receivedNotification = udpServer.Receive(ref remoteEndPoint); notificationReceived = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(receivedNotification); listBox = new StringBuilder(this.listBox1.Text); listBox.AppendLine(notificationReceived); this.listBox1.Items.Add(listBox.ToString()); } } For the reception of the code I have a form that has only a listbox(listBox1). The problem here is that when i execute the code to receive, the program runs but the form isnt visible. However when I comment the function call( startUdpListener1() ), the purpose isnt served but the form is visible. Whats going wrong?

When I looked at IPN history, it shows that each IPN has been sent with the complete url. 2- Payment status keeps coming Pending. Does this issue cause the first issue? Thank you for your responses in advance. Here is the code: Dim strSandbox As String, strLive As String Dim req As HttpWebRequest strSandbox = "http://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr/" strLive = "https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" req = CType(WebRequest.Create(strSandbox), HttpWebRequest) 'Set values for the request back req.Method = "POST" req.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" Dim param() As Byte param = Request.BinaryRead(HttpContext.Current.Request.ContentLength) Dim strRequest As String strRequest = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(param) strRequest = strRequest & "&cmd=_notify-validate" req.ContentLength = strRequest.Length 'Response.Write(strRequest) 'Send the request to PayPal and get the response Dim streamOut As StreamWriter streamOut = New StreamWriter(req.GetRequestStream(), System.Text.Encoding.ASCII) streamOut.Write(strRequest) streamOut.Close() Dim streamIn As StreamReader streamIn = New StreamReader(req.GetResponse().GetResponseStream()) Dim strResponse As String strResponse = streamIn.ReadToEnd() Response.Write(strResponse) streamIn.Close() If (strResponse = "VERIFIED") Then Response.Redirect("thankyou.aspx") ElseIf (strResponse = "INVALID") Then End If

  • substitution cypher with different alphabet length

    - by seanizer
I would like to implement a simple substitution cypher to mask private ids in URLs I know how my IDs will look like (combination of upperchase ascii, digits and underscore), and they will be rather long, as they are composed keys. I would like to use a longer alphabet to shorten the resulting codes (I'd like to use upper and lower case ascii letters, digits and nothing else). So my incoming alphabet would be [A-Z0-9_] (37 chars) and my outgoing alphabet would be [A-Za-z0-9] (62 chars) so a compression of almost 50% would be available. let's say my URLs look like this: /my/page/GFZHFFFZFZTFZTF_24_F34 and I want them to look like this instead: /my/page/Ft32zfegZFV5 Obviously both arrays would be shuffled to bring some random order in. This does not have to be secure. if someone figures it out: fine, but I don't want the scheme to be obvious. My desired solution would be to convert the string to an integer representation of radix 37, convert the radix to 62 and use the second alphabet to write out that number. is there any sample code available that does something similar? Integer.parseInt ( http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Integer.html#parseInt%28java.lang.String,%20int%29 ) has some similar logic, but it is hard-coded to use standard digit behavior Any hints? I am using java to implement this but code or pseudo-code in any other language is of course also helpful

  • drupal: standard way for creating a slug from a string

    - by egarcia
Hi there, A slug on this context is a string that its safe to use as an identifier, on urls or css. For example, if you have this string: I'd like to eat at McRunchies! Its slug would be: i-d-like-to-eat-at-mcrunchies- I want to know whether there's a standard way of building such strings on Drupal (or php functions available from drupal). More precisely, inside a Drupal theme. Context: I'm modifying a drupal theme so the html of the nodes it generates include their taxonomy terms as css classes on their containing div. Trouble is, some of those terms' names aren't valid css class names. I need to "slugify" the them. I've read that some people simply do this: str_replace(" ", "-", $term->name) This isn't really a enough for me. It doesn't replace uppercase letters with downcase, but more importantly, doesn't replace non-ascii characters (like à or é) by their ascii equivalents. Is there a function in drupal 6 (or the php libs) that provides a way to slugify a string, and can be used on a template.php file of a drupal theme?

  • Deterministic and non uniform long string generation from seed

    - by Limonup
I had this weird idea for an encryption that I wanted to try out, it may be bad, and it may have done before, but I'm just doing it for fun. The short version of the question is: Is it possible to generate a long, deterministic and non-uniformly distributed string/sequence of numbers from a small seed? Long(er) version: I was thinking to encrypt a text by changing encoding. The new encoding would be generated via Huffman algorithm. To work well, the Huffman algorithm would need a fairly long text with non uniform distribution. Then characters can have different bit-lengths which would be the primary strength of this encryption. The problem is that its impractical to enter in/remember a long text each time you want to decrypt the text. So I was wondering if it was possible to generate a text from password seed? It doesn't matter what the text is, as long as it has non uniform distribution of characters and that the exact same sequence can be recreated each time you give it the same seed. Preferably, are there any functions/extensions in Python that can do this? EDIT: To expand on the "strength" of varying bit length: if I have a string "test", ASCII values 116, 101, 115, 116, which gives bit values of 1110100 1100101 1110011 1110100 Then, say my Huffman algorithm generates encoding like t = 101 e = 1100111 s = 10001 The final string is 101 1100111 10001 101, if we encode this back to ASCII, we get 1011100 1111000 1101000, which is 3 entirely different characters. Obviously its impossible to perform any kind of frequency analysis or something like that on this.

  • Minimal assembler program for CP/M 3.1 (z80)

    - by Andrew J. Brehm
I seem to be losing the battle against my stupidity. This site explains the system calls under various versions of CP/M. However, when I try to use call 2 (C_WRITE, console output), nothing much happens. I have the following code. ORG 100h LD E,'a' LD C,2 CALL 5 CALL 0 I recite this here from memory. If there are typos, rest assured they were not in the original since the file did compile and I had a COM file to start. I am thinking the lines mean the following: Make sure this gets loaded at address 100h (0h to FFh being the zero page). Load ASCII 'a' into E register for system call 2. Load integer 2 into C register for system call 2. Make system call (JMP to system call is at address 5 in zero page). End program (Exit command is at address 0 in zero page). The program starts and exits with no problems. If I remove the last command, it hangs the computer (which I guess is also expected and shows that CALL 0 works). However, it does not print the ASCII character. (But it does print an extra new line, but the system might have done that.) How can I get my CP/M program to do what the system call is supposed to do? What am I doing wrong?

  • How to query MySQL for exact length and exact UTF-8 characters

    - by oskarae
I have table with words dictionary in my language (latvian). CREATE TABLE words ( value varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci DEFAULT NULL ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_unicode_ci; And let's say it has 3 words inside: INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('teja'); INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('vejš'); INSERT INTO words (value) VALUES ('feja'); What I want to do is I want to find all words that is exactly 4 characters long and where second character is 'e' and third character is 'j' For me it feels that correct query would be: SELECT * FROM words WHERE value LIKE '_ej_'; But problem with this query is that it returs not 2 entries ('teja','vejš') but all three. As I understand it is because internally MySQL converts strings to some ASCII representation? Then there is BINARY addition possible for LIKE SELECT * FROM words WHERE value LIKE BINARY '_ej_'; But this also does not return 2 entries ('teja','vejš') but only one ('teja'). I believe this has something to do with UTF-8 2 bytes for non ASCII chars? So question: What MySQL query would return my exact two words ('teja','vejš')? Thank you in advance

  • Boost Binary Endian parser not working?

    - by Hai
    I am studying how to use boost spirit Qi binary endian parser. I write a small test parser program according to here and basics examples, but it doesn't work proper. It gave me the msg:"Error:no match". Here is my code. #include "boost/spirit/include/qi.hpp" #include "boost/spirit/include/phoenix_core.hpp" #include "boost/spirit/include/phoenix_operator.hpp" #include "boost/spirit/include/qi_binary.hpp" // parsing binary data in various endianness template '<'typename P, typename T void binary_parser( char const* input, P const& endian_word_type, T& voxel, bool full_match = true) { using boost::spirit::qi::parse; char const* f(input); char const* l(f + strlen(f)); bool result1 = parse(f,l,endian_word_type,voxel); bool result2 =((!full_match) || (f ==l)); if ( result1 && result2) { //doing nothing, parsing data is pass to voxel alreay } else { std::cerr << "Error: not match!!" << std::endl; exit(1); } } typedef boost::uint16_t bs_int16; typedef boost::uint32_t bs_int32; int main ( int argc, char *argv[] ) { namespace qi = boost::spirit::qi; namespace ascii = boost::spirit::ascii; using qi::big_word; using qi::big_dword; boost::uint32_t ui; float uf; binary_parser("\x01\x02\x03\x04",big_word,ui); assert(ui=0x01020304); binary_parser("\x01\x02\x03\x04",big_word,uf); assert(uf=0x01020304); return 0; }' I almost copy the example, but why this binary parser doesn't work. I use Mac OS 10.5.8 and gcc 4.01 compiler.

  • Program repeats each time a character is scanned .. How to stop it ?

    - by ZaZu
Hello there, I have a program that has this code : #include<stdio.h> main(){ int input; char g; do{ printf("Choose a numeric value"); printf(">"); scanf("\n%c",&input); g=input-'0'; }while((g>=-16 && g<=-1)||(g>=10 && g<=42)||(g>=43 && g<=79)); } It basically uses ASCII manipulation to allow the program to accept numbers only .. '0' is given the value 48 by default...the ASCII value - 48 gives a ranges of numbers above (in the while statement) Anyway, whenever a user inputs numbers AND alphabets, such as : abr39293afakvmienb23 The program ignores : a,b,r .. But takes '3' as the first input. For a b and r, the code under the do loop repeats. So for the above example, I get : Choose a numeric value >Choose a numeric value> Choose a numeric value >3 Is there a way I can stop this ??? I tried using \n%c to scan the character and account for whitespace, but that didnt work :( Please help thank you very much !
