  • Is extreme programming out of date?

    - by KingBabar
I have stumbled across this graph and I wonder if someone would care to explain the results? As you can see, extreme programming (XP) is practically uninterested and has almost disappeared from searches. The legend is: Blue: Agile Red: Scrum Orange: extreme programming Green: Waterfall source: http://www.google.com/insights/search/#cat=0-5&q=agile%2Cscrum%2Cextreme%20programming%2Cwaterfall&cmpt=q

  • 12.04.1 desktop monitor "Out of Range"

    - by Zach
I know this question has been asked many-a-times, but I cant seem to get a definite answer to it. I am running 12.04.1 on my HP Pavillion a6 109n PC. Processor is a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core Processor. Every time I boot up my desktop, it runs BIOS, then it boots up Linux. After about 10 seconds, a little blue screen comes up saying: Out of Range: H. Frequency: 92.7KHz V. Frequency: 58.3Hz Can anyone help with this?

  • How do I calculate the boundary of the game window after transforming the view?

    - by Cypher
My Camera class handles zoom, rotation, and of course panning. It's invoked through SpriteBatch.Begin, like so many other XNA 2D camera classes. It calculates the view Matrix like so: public Matrix GetViewMatrix() { return Matrix.Identity * Matrix.CreateTranslation(new Vector3(-this.Spatial.Position, 0.0f)) * Matrix.CreateTranslation(-( this.viewport.Width / 2 ), -( this.viewport.Height / 2 ), 0.0f) * Matrix.CreateRotationZ(this.Rotation) * Matrix.CreateScale(this.Scale, this.Scale, 1.0f) * Matrix.CreateTranslation(this.viewport.Width * 0.5f, this.viewport.Height * 0.5f, 0.0f); } I was having a minor issue with performance, which after doing some profiling, led me to apply a culling feature to my rendering system. It used to, before I implemented the camera's zoom feature, simply grab the camera's boundaries and cull any game objects that did not intersect with the camera. However, after giving the camera the ability to zoom, that no longer works. The reason why is visible in the screenshot below. The navy blue rectangle represents the camera's boundaries when zoomed out all the way (Camera.Scale = 0.5f). So, when zoomed out, game objects are culled before they reach the boundaries of the window. The camera's width and height are determined by the Viewport properties of the same name (maybe this is my mistake? I wasn't expecting the camera to "resize" like this). What I'm trying to calculate is a Rectangle that defines the boundaries of the screen, as indicated by my awesome blue arrows, even after the camera is rotated, scaled, or panned. Here is how I've more recently found out how not to do it: public Rectangle CullingRegion { get { Rectangle region = Rectangle.Empty; Vector2 size = this.Spatial.Size; size *= 1 / this.Scale; Vector2 position = this.Spatial.Position; position = Vector2.Transform(position, this.Inverse); region.X = (int)position.X; region.Y = (int)position.Y; region.Width = (int)size.X; region.Height = (int)size.Y; return region; } } It seems to calculate the right size, but when I render this region, it moves around which will obviously cause problems. It needs to be "static", so to speak. It's also obscenely slow, which causes more of a problem than it solves. What am I missing?

    - by Alex Black
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, and out of the blue I can no longer cut and paste, I imagine if I restart my computer I'll be able to, but thats a pain, how can I fix/reset the clipboard? Type "hello" into Text Editor Highlight the text "hello" Press CTRL-C See the text become unhighlighted (is this normal?) Press CTRL-V See the word "network" get pasted in.. perhaps that was the last thing I copied when it was still working?

  • RPi and Java Embedded GPIO: Sensor Connections for Java Enabled Interface

    - by hinkmond
Now we're ready to connect the hardware needed to make a static electricity sensor for the Raspberry Pi and use Java code to access it through a GPIO port. First, very carefully bend the NTE312 (or MPF-102) transistor "gate" pin (see the diagram on the back of the package or refer to the pin diagram on the Web). You can see it in the inset photo on the bottom left corner. I bent the leftmost pin of the NTE312 transistor as I held the flat part toward me. That is going to be your antenna. So, connect one of the jumper wires to the bent pin. I used the dark green jumper wire (looks almost black; coiled at the bottom) in the photo. Then push the other 2 pins of the transistor into your breadboard. Connect one of the pins to Pin # 1 (3.3V) on the GPIO header of your RPi. See the diagram if you need to glance back at it. In the photo, that's the orange jumper wire. And connect the final unconnected transistor pin to Pin # 22 (GPIO25) on the RPi header. That's the blue jumper wire in my photo. For reference, connect the LED anode (long pin on a common anode LED/short pin on a common cathode LED, check your LED pin diagram) to the same breadboard hole that is connecting to Pin # 22 (same row of holes where the blue wire is connected), and connect the other pin of the LED to GROUND (row of holes that connect to the black wire in the photo). Test by blowing up a balloon, rubbing it on your hair (or your co-worker's hair, if you are hair-challenged) to statically charge it, and bringing it near your antenna (green wire in the photo). The LED should light up when it's near and go off when you pull it away. If you need more static charge, find a co-worker with really long hair, or rub the balloon on a piece of silk (which is just as good but not as fun). Next blog post is where we do some Java coding to access this sensor on your RPi. Finally, back to software! Ha! Hinkmond

  • Get Info From Database, or Build Inferred Info?

    - by Zaemz
Does it make more sense to store and retrieve properties or information directly related to an item in a database, or, say in such a case that a product's ID could describe information about it, should the information be gathered from that? Example: Item SKU -- 4HBU12 4 - is the number of motors H - the voltage B - the color, blue U - the model 12 - the length Should I store those individual attributes as well as the SKU, or should I store only the SKU and build the attributes from it?

  • Fail to start windows after Ubuntu 11.10 install

    - by user49995
Computer: HP Pavilion dv7-6140eo OS: Originally Win7 I recently decided to try out Ubuntu, and I decided to dual-boot it with Windows 7. First I googled some how-to's, then I downloaded Ubuntu onto a memory stick and made a second partition (I originally only had one partition that I shrunk and used the unallocated space to install onto during the Ubuntu install). During the install I set format type to xt4 (or something, it was the default option), chose the "in the beginning" option and set the last option as "\". The install was successful. Although, when I restarted my computer I weren't able to choose which operating system to start; it went right into windows. After showing the windows logo for half a second before rebooting, I get a blue screen (see bottom of the page). Trying to fix it, I deleted the newly made partition I had just installed Ubuntu onto (seeing it wasn't working either). This made no difference. I proceeded with installing Ubuntu again, so I would at least have a functioning computer, and now Ubuntu works fine (on it now). The only difference on start-up is that I get a Grub window asking me to between several options including Linux and Windows 7 (loader). Now, if I choose Windows 7, I get the message "Windows was unable to start. A recent software or hardware change might be the cause". It recommends me to choose the first option of the two it provides; to start start-up repair tool. The second option being starting windows normally. If I start windows normally, the same thing happens as earlier. My computer does not have a windows installation CD. Although, it has (at least it used to, if I haven't screwed that too up) a 17gb recovery partition. In addition I made an image of the computer onto a external hard drive when I first got it. Though, I have no idea how to use either. If anyone has any idea how I can make windows work again or reinstall it (already backed up my files) it would be greatly appreciated. I still prefer to dual boot between the two functioning operating systems, but I will settle for a functioning windows 7. Thanks a lot for any replies. Blue screen: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove and newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configures and terminated. Run CMKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Here is the code: glTexStorage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 2, GL_RGBA8, 2048, 2048); glTexSubImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, 0, 0, 2048, 2048, GL_RGB, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT_5_6_5_REV, &BitMap[0]); glTexSubImage2D returns GL_INVALID_VALUE but the maximum texture allowed is 16384x16384 on my card. The source of the image is 16bit (Red 5, Green 6, Blue 5).

  • Beginner Scoring program button development in Java [migrated]

    - by A.G.
I'm trying to add a "green team" to an example scoring GUI I found online. For some reason, the code compiles, but it runs with only the original two teams. I've tried playing around with the sizes/locations somewhat clumsily, and since no change was observed with these modications (NO change at ALL), I admit that I must be missing some necessary property or something. Any help? Here's the code: import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; public class ButtonDemo_Extended3 implements ActionListener{ // Definition of global values and items that are part of the GUI. int redScoreAmount = 0; int blueScoreAmount = 0; int greenScoreAmount = 0; JPanel titlePanel, scorePanel, buttonPanel; JLabel redLabel, blueLabel, greenLabel, redScore, blueScore, greenScore; JButton redButton, blueButton, greenButton, resetButton; public JPanel createContentPane (){ // We create a bottom JPanel to place everything on. JPanel totalGUI = new JPanel(); totalGUI.setLayout(null); // Creation of a Panel to contain the title labels titlePanel = new JPanel(); titlePanel.setLayout(null); titlePanel.setLocation(0, 0); titlePanel.setSize(500, 500); totalGUI.add(titlePanel); redLabel = new JLabel("Red Team"); redLabel.setLocation(300, 0); redLabel.setSize(100, 30); redLabel.setHorizontalAlignment(0); redLabel.setForeground(Color.red); titlePanel.add(redLabel); blueLabel = new JLabel("Blue Team"); blueLabel.setLocation(900, 0); blueLabel.setSize(100, 30); blueLabel.setHorizontalAlignment(0); blueLabel.setForeground(Color.blue); titlePanel.add(blueLabel); greenLabel = new JLabel("Green Team"); greenLabel.setLocation(600, 0); greenLabel.setSize(100, 30); greenLabel.setHorizontalAlignment(0); greenLabel.setForeground(Color.green); titlePanel.add(greenLabel); // Creation of a Panel to contain the score labels. scorePanel = new JPanel(); scorePanel.setLayout(null); scorePanel.setLocation(10, 40); scorePanel.setSize(500, 30); totalGUI.add(scorePanel); redScore = new JLabel(""+redScoreAmount); redScore.setLocation(0, 0); redScore.setSize(40, 30); redScore.setHorizontalAlignment(0); scorePanel.add(redScore); greenScore = new JLabel(""+greenScoreAmount); greenScore.setLocation(60, 0); greenScore.setSize(40, 30); greenScore.setHorizontalAlignment(0); scorePanel.add(greenScore); blueScore = new JLabel(""+blueScoreAmount); blueScore.setLocation(130, 0); blueScore.setSize(40, 30); blueScore.setHorizontalAlignment(0); scorePanel.add(blueScore); // Creation of a Panel to contain all the JButtons. buttonPanel = new JPanel(); buttonPanel.setLayout(null); buttonPanel.setLocation(10, 80); buttonPanel.setSize(2600, 70); totalGUI.add(buttonPanel); // We create a button and manipulate it using the syntax we have // used before. • Defining and selecting an area from an image

    - by meth0d_
I want to create a game, where the world is loaded from an image file, much like Paradox Interactive does it for their games. If I have this image: Then the red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, white, black and grey should be different provinces. I know how to loop through them, and check if it's a new province, the problem is that I don't know how to define the region of the province for selection: I don't know how I can load in data, to make sure you can click anywhere on that province, and make sure it gets selected.

  • Positioning of Submenu under Sprite

    - by user73897
At http://www.shieldscompany.com, the main (blue) product menu uses a sprite and has sub-menus. Our programmer set it up so that the sub-menus are relative to the top of the browser, rather than under the sprite. On the site's sub-pages, the sub-menus appear correctly, but on the home page they appear behind a large rotating graphic. Can someone take a look at http://www.shieldscompany.com/css/nav.css and help me understand how to change this so it works properly?

  • C Programming arrays, I dont understand how I would go about making this program, If anyone can just guide me through the basic outline please :) [on hold]

    - by Rashmi Kohli
Problem The temperature of a car engine has been measured, from real-world experiments, as shown in the table and graph below: Time (min) Temperature (oC) 0 20 1 36 2 61 3 68 4 77 5 110 Use linear regression to find the engine’s temperature at 1.5 minutes, 4.3 minutes, and any other time specified by the user. Background In engineering, many times we measure several data points in an experiment, but then we need to predict a value that we have not measured which lies between two measured values, such as the problem statement above. If the relation between the measured parameters seems to be roughly linear, then we can use linear regression to find the relationship between those parameters. In the graph of the problem statement above, the relation seems to be roughly linear. Hence, we can apply linear regression to the above problem. Assuming y {y0, y1, …yn-1} has a linear relation with x {x0, x1, … xn-1}, we can say that: y = mx+b where m and b can be found with linear regression as follows: For the problem in this lab, using linear regression gives us the following line (in blue) compared to the measured curve (in red). As you can see, there is usually a difference between the measured values and the estimated (predicted) values. What linear regression does is to minimize those differences and still give us a straight line (blue). Other methods, such as non-linear regression, are also possible to achieve higher accuracy and better curve fitting. Requirements Your program should first print the table of the temperatures similar to the way it’s printed in the problem statement. It should then calculate the temperature at minute 1.5 and 4.3 and show the answers to the user. Next, it should prompt the user to enter a time in minutes (or -1 to quit), and after reading the user’s specified time it should give the value of the engine’s temperature at that time. It should then go back to the prompt. Hints •Use a one dimensional array to store the temperature values given in the problem statement. •Use functions to separate tasks such as calculating m, calculating b, calculating the temperature at a given time, printing the prompt, etc. You can then give your algorithm as well as you pseudo code per function, as opposed to one large algorithm diagram or one large sequence of pseudo code.
