• Opengl + SDL linking error

  I am trying to load an image as a texture with opengl using c++ in visual studio 2010. I researched a couple hours online and found the SDL library, then I implemented a simple example and got some linking error I can not seem to figure out. I downloaded the SDL, and copied all the .h file into: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Include I added the .lib (x86) files into://as a not i tried the (x64) file too but got the exact same error C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Lib and the .dll(x86) into: C:\Windows\System32 For implementing textures, I used the simple sample code from: http://www.sdltutorials.com/sdl-tip-sdl-surface-to-opengl-texture Please let me know if you can see me doing something wrong, or know how I can fix this!! • SteamCMD can't add files to my home directory

  I'm trying to clean up the administration of some game servers I run on a Ubuntu box, part of which has been finally setting permissions properly so I can run the Steam console tool that controls updates and such. I had been running it as root using sudo, but I changed the permissions so that I can start it as a regular user rather than root. That bit seems to work fine, but now when SteamCMD actually starts, it errors with the following output ./steam.sh: line 24: /home/angleosaxon/.steampid: Permission denied Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1334262703) SteamUpdater: Error: Couldn't create directory /home/angleosaxon/Steam/package, got error 13 [ 0%] Download complete. Fatal Error: Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xbfa7cfa0) failed with error 1: Failed to open logfile /home/angleosaxon/Steam/steam.log Leaving aside the question of why it wants to add this information to my home directory, why is it getting access denied errors? As I understand it, since it's being run by my account, it operates with my permissions, so it should be able to read/write from my home directory, shouldn't it? • android shut-down errors / thread problems

• Incomplete Ubuntu 12.04 install dual-boot XP

  This weekend has been the 1st time I've tried to install Ubuntu. On the initial install, (I am using a USB) the installation went all the way through and asked to restart when completed. I was not able to get grub to boot and kept going through Windows. After some research I found some articles on updating/reinstalling grub, so I followed those. I finally got grub to load after a day but there was no Windows option only the Ubuntu 12.04 which when I selected it only gave me a fatal error 17. I booted from the USB again and deleted the partitions and installed again. This time I got an error 15. I then booted through XP and downloaded the WUBI.exe and uninstalled Ubuntu and reinstalled again. The installation went to the very end and then gave an error message (which I don't remember exactly what it said) something along the lines of checking my logs on my C drive. I then uninstalled Ubuntu and removed the wubi.exe file and wiped my USB and did the download to the USB again. Booted through USB and ran the install process again. It again went through the install process but after creating username and password and hitting continue, the installation dialogue box disappears and the mouse spinning wheel is displayed, but I do not receive the prompt to restart. I can still access the side menu for Ubuntu but the wheel keeps spinning. How do I get Ubuntu to install properly?

• Installing datacommons from sunlight

  I know strictly nothing from python and I am installing datacommons from the sunlightlabs. So I followed step by step the README.md https://github.com/sunlightlabs/datacommons First, it is said in the doc to add to the virtualenv dc_data, dc_matcchbox but I didn't find them. But I went to the final step to run ./manage.py runserver so I had the following message : (datacommons)newben@newben-VirtualBox:~/share-ubuntu/sunlightlabs-datacommons-e3ff1a3$ ./manage.py runserver fatal: Not a git repository (or any parent up to mount parent /home/mbenchoufi) Stopping at filesystem boundary (GIT_DISCOVERY_ACROSS_FILESYSTEM not set). Error: Can't find the file 'settings.py' in the directory containing './manage.py'. It appears you've customized things. You'll have to run django-admin.py, passing it your settings module. (If the file settings.py does indeed exist, it's causing an ImportError somehow.) In the 'sunlightlabs-datacommons-e3ff1a3' folder, I downloaded and put the files from github. By the way I didin't understand how to deal with the settings file. Could someone help me understand how to install datacommons ?

• Seek first to understand, then to be understood

  One of the most important (and most difficult) lessons for a technical professional to learn is to not jump to the solution. Perhaps you’ve done this, or had it happen to you. As the person you’re “listening” to is speaking, your mind is performing a B-Tree lookup on possible solutions, and when the final node of the B-Tree in your mind is reached, you blurt out the “only” solution there is to the problem, whether they are done or not. There are two issues here – both of them fatal if you don’t factor them in. First, your B-Tree may not be complete, or correct. That of course leads to an incorrect response, which blows your credibility. People will not trust you if this happens often. The second danger is that the person may modify their entire problem with a single word or phrase. I once had a client explain a detailed problem to me – and I just KNEW the answer. Then they said at the end “well, that’s what it used to do, anyway. Now it doesn’t do that anymore.” Which of course negated my entire solution – happily I had kept my mouth shut until they finished. So practice listening, rather than waiting for your turn to speak. Let the person finish, let them get the concept out, give them your full attention. They’ll appreciate the courtesy, you’ll look more intelligent, and you both may find the right answer to the problem. • Unable to install ZFS (Ubuntu 13.10)

  I'm fairly new to Ubuntu and wanted to setup a server running ZFS/XBMC - The XBMC install went fine, however I ran into trouble getting ZFS working. Configuration : Ubuntu 13.10 (GNU/Linux 3.12.0-rc7+ x86_64) I attempted to install ZFS native using : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:zfs-native/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-zfs This failed to install due to "Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed." Trying sudo modprobe zfs shows FATAL error : module not found. Here, they mentioned it was to do with lacking build dependences- I followed the answer which was to run sudo apt-get remove --purge ubuntu-zfs zfs-dkms zfsutils spl spl-dkms libzfs1 dkms Then, REBOOT. Then, do: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essentia sudo apt-get install ubuntu-zfs " This leaves me in the same situation with "Building only for 3.12.0-rc7+ Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed." when trying to install ubuntu-zfs. Trying sudo apt-get install --reinstall zfs-dkms also does not work.

• Having trouble installing Bradcom STA driver

  I just installed Ubuntu and love it so much, its so fast now. But I have a problem connecting to the internet. I checked and saw I have to install the driver Broadcom STA wireless driver but every time I do try to install it it says: Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log files for details: /var/log/jockey.log I went to the terminal and copy and pasted the log file name. and when I did it, it said I have no permission to access this file. I checked on the forums that I have to be on a wired connection. So I plugged my laptop into my router and I got internet then tried to install the driver again. And it was loading then when it got to the end the same message popped up. Also I have one of those little USB router things you plug into the computer and it gives you internet I have been using that but its to slow. So I want to use the one in my computer but cant. Also I tried the command: sudo modprobe wl and when i type that command in it says: FATAL: Module wl not found Also I'm using Ubuntu 12.04

  Hello, I am using qt 4.5 I have created a project and I want to compile on visual studio 2008 for windows mobile 6.0 So I have created the project files doing this: D:\Projects\Phone_PDA\Phone_PDA>set QMAKESPEC=win32-msvc2008 D:\Projects\Phone_PDA\Phone_PDA>qmake -tp vc The VS project was created. However, when I try and compile I get this error: LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'c:\Qt\qt\lib\qtmaind.lib' However, when I check my librarys and includes under project properties in visual studio.   I am trying to use bing with PHP SOAP. It works fine for short strings. The maximum string content length quota (8192) has been exceeded while reading XML data. • Problem using Flot charts on a jQtouch web site

  Hiiii I have a jQtouch site in dev and i would like to use a chart on it, to me Flot looks like the best way to do this (prettiest!) However if i implement flot on the site i get the following error: Invalid dimensions for plot, width = 0, height = 0 If i comment out the style sheet ../jqtouch/jqtouch.min.css the flot chart works just fine. This i think has something to do with the fact that you cannot use flot inside a div that has display:none From the Flot readme Blockquote Make sure that the placeholder isn't within something with a display:none CSS property - in that case, Flot has trouble measuring label dimensions which results in garbled looks and might have trouble measuring the placeholder dimensions which is fatal (it'll throw an exception).   Hey guys I have this piece of code which works 90% of the time: $user_details=$fb-api_client-users_getInfo($fb_user, array('last_name','first_name','proxied_email')); $firstName=$user_details[0]['first_name']; But sometimes I get this error: Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array for line $firstName=$user_details[0]['first_name']; I have read several people report the same issue - but I'm still not clear as to what is the reason - Am I getting this error because facebook is not returning any results or am I getting because it is returning only a single array instead of array of arrays. This is the fix I'm thinking of: if (!is_array($user_details)) { $firstName=''; } else { $firstName = ($user_details[0]) ? $user_details[0]['first_name'] : $user_details['first_name']; } Also if I'm not getting the name - is it because of a timeout issue or something else?   Hi all, I have an nmake-based project which in turn calls the asp compiler, which can throw an error, which nmake seems to recognize: NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler.exe' : return code '0x1' However, when I call nmake from within a batch file, the environment variable %ERRORLEVEL% remains set at zero: nmake /NOLOGO echo BUILD RETURNING: %ERRORLEVEL% If I control-c the nmake task, I do end up getting a non-zero ERRORLEVEL (it's set to 2) so my assumption is that I'm able to catch errors okay, but nmake isn't bubbling up the non-zero exit code from it's task. Or, at least, I'm mis-trapping it. Any help would be appreciated.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Embarcadero\RAD Studio\7.0\source\Win32\rtl\sys\Variants.pas(1072) Fatal: F2092 Program or unit 'Variants' recursively uses itself But looking at Variants.pas, I can't see how. It only uses SysUtils and Types in the interface section, and neither of those use Variants, or use anything that uses Variants. Does anyone have any idea why this is breaking?

However, when I try to actually update the repository, I get the following message: Could not obrain the highest revision number for the given repository. • Access Products/Category/Attribute Info from php with Magento API

  Need to be able to pull Magento products into an external template. Need to be able to get all products data (description, title, attributes, categories, image, etc). And need to be able to filter by category, attribute and also search on name. These calls will be made from the same server that the Magento install is on. What's the best way to do this? Will be using php on both linux & windows (2 separate sites). Have tried using the Magento API & Soap to access from php but haven't been able to get that to work yet. All I get is this error every time. • nmake makefile, linking objects files in a subfolder

  My makefile defines a link command: prod_link = $(LINK) $(LINK_FLAGS) -o$(PROD_OUT) $(PROD_OBJS) where $(PROD_OBJS) is a list of object files of the form: PROD_OBJS = objfile1.obj objfile2.obj objfile3.obj ... objfileN.obj Now the makefile itself is at the root of my project directory. It gets messy to have object and listing files at the root, I'd like to put them in a subfolder. Building and outputing the obj files to a subfolder works, I'm doing it with suffixes and inference: .s.obj: $(ASSEMBLY) $(FLAGS) $*.s -o Objects\$*.obj The problem is to pass the Objects folder to the link command. I tried: prod_link = $(LINK) $(LINK_FLAGS) -o$(PROD_OUT) Objects\$(PROD_OBJS) but only the first file in the list of object files gets the folder's name. How can I pass the Objects subfolder to all files of my list $(PROD_OBJS)? EDIT I tried also PROD_OBJS = $(patsubst %.ss,Object\%.obj, $(PROD_SRC)) but got: makefile(51) : fatal error U1000: syntax error : ')' missing in macro invocation Stop. This is quite strange...

• OracleXETNSListener won't start

  For some unknown reason OracleXETNSListener won't start which prevents SQL Developer from connecting to it. C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora and C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames both have correct hostname.
