  • Tabular (X)HTML forms

    - by detly
    I have a set of items that can be in various states. I want to allow a user to use an (X)HTML form to change the state, and easily view the state of a group of objects ...so to this end, I'd like a layout like: | item1 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | | item2 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | etc. I prefer the radio buttons to list boxes so that it's easy for a user to visually scan for things in a certain state. It seemed like perfectly tabular data to me. The only problem is, you can't have forms inside a table that cross table cells (ie. <tr> <form> <td> ... is invalid). I thought, "hey, I could have one giant form wrapping a table, and make the [update button] value contain the IDs for each row!" Turns out certain versions of IE send ALL THE SUBMIT BUTTON VALUES on any single form. So I thought perhaps to to lay it out with <div>s and place the forms inside a single <td>. But then they break a line on each <div>. So I fixed their width and made them float: left. But then they wrap inside the table cells if the table row is wider than the page, and the radio controls don't line up with the headings. Is it possible to lay this out as I intend? The XHTML below shows the intended structure. Observe what happens if you resize the browser window below the width of the table (ideally, the name would break or the table would show a scroll bar). <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head><title>Test</title> <style type="text/css"> .state-select, .thing-state-name, .update { float: left; width: 8em; } .state-select { text-align: center; } </style> </head> <body> <table> <thead> <tr> <th class="thing-name-header">Thing</th> <th> <div class="thing-state-name">Present</div> <div class="thing-state-name">Absent</div> <div class="thing-state-name">Haven't looked</div> </th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>Apple</td> <td> <form action="something" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="id" value="1" /> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="present" checked="checked" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="absent" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="unknown" /></div> <div class="update"><input type="submit" value="Update" /></div> </form> </td></tr> <tr> <td>Orange</td> <td> <form action="something" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="id" value="2" /> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="present" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="absent" checked="checked" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="unknown" /></div> <div class="update"><input type="submit" value="Update" /></div> </form> </td></tr> <tr> <td>David Bowie</td> <td> <form action="something" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="id" value="3" /> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="present" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="absent" /></div> <div class="state-select"><input type="radio" name="presence" value="unknown" checked="checked" /></div> <div class="update"><input type="submit" value="Update" /></div> </form> </td></tr> </tbody> </table> </body> </html>

  • HTML 5 video custom controls

    - by pygorex1
Like many web developers I'm looking forward to streaming video that utilizes the new HTML 5 <video> tag. Browser support definitely isn't wide enough yet, so using a Flash/SWF fallback is a must. This got me thinking: in Flash it's possible to highly customize the playback controls (pause, play, stop, seek, volume, etc.) in HTML 5?. What options are there for customizing the glyphs, icons and colors of video controls? Is Javascript required? For instance the following page renders different controls depending on the browser - tested using FF3.5, Chrome and Safari: http://henriksjokvist.net/examples/html5-video/ It would be really awesome to customize and standardize controls across browsers and even match the Flash controls used by older browsers.

  • MFMailComposeViewController broke CSS styles in html template

    - by Victor
I use MFMailComposeViewController to send a message in html format. If my html template contains the css styles: <div class="margin:10 10 10 0"> <a href="domain.name">Go To</a></div> In this case it works good. But if I send: <a href="domain.name">Go&nbsp;To</a> then I see the letter that comes with broken styles as there (3D is not my misprint) <div style=3D"margin:10 10 10 10;"><a href=3D"www.google.com">Go=C2=A0To</a></div> Well as the letter goes broken when I insert in the template symbols from national alphabets. Somebody can tell what the problem and check with yourself?

  • HTML <select> selected option background-color CSS style

    - by arieltools
    Is there a style for a select option's "selected" color? For example: <HTML> <BODY> <FORM NAME="form1"> <SELECT NAME="mySelect" SIZE="7" style="background-color:red;"> <OPTION>Test 1 <OPTION>Test 2 <OPTION>Test 3 <OPTION>Test 4 <OPTION>Test 5 <OPTION>Test 6 <OPTION>Test 7 </SELECT> </FORM> </BODY> </HTML> When I select an option it turns blue, I want to override this and make it a different color. In the style I expected something like "selected-color", but it doesn't exist.

  • What should I learn after HTML and CSS?

    - by Ryan B
I am 5 days into learning how to make my website, flying through my HTML & CSS book and having fun. I’m starting to consider what to order next. I’m not sure what to study next, so please give me some advice if you can. My end goal is to create a site that has a lot of the functionality that www.edufire.com and similar sites have, just for example. I think I’m learning well with the Head First Series, and the style will probably serve me well as an intro to programming. However, I don't think the books dive too deeply into any 1 subject. I could order: A: Head First Programming: A Learner’s Guide to Programming Using the Python Language B: Head First Javascript C: Head First PHP & MySQL D: a different programming book or E: another CSS or design book to solidify my basic HTML & CSS skills Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • HTML/JavaScript: mouseover effect for image maps?

    - by MVCDummy09
I'm trying to help out a nonprofit by doing their website. They want (ugh) their logo to serve as an HTML image map. In other words, when you click on different parts of the logo, you're directed to different web pages. They also, however, want mouseover effects: when you mouseover a particular portion of the image map, that piece of the graphic should be highlighted. If the logo was simple, I would slice it up into rectangles and attach mouseover and click events to the appropriate rectangles. With the complexity of their logo, this is not possible, however. Has anyone done anything like this without Flash? I'm not a Flash developer but this is looking like a very difficult task in just HTML/JavaScript. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • CSS problems with our eBay custom HTML template

    - by user1302015
we are building a template for our eBay listings. eBay allows users to upload a description as HTML code and allows that code to link your external CSS files. eBay displays the user's HTML code in an iframe, it looks like eBay calculates the height of your page on load and then and resizes the iframe according to that height. Here is a link to one of our test listings in eBay's sandbox environment: http://cgi.sandbox.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110097353751&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123#ht_692wt_1136 In Chrome / Firefox there's a second scroll bar next to the listing. In IE, the listings just covers eBay's footer which is even worse I solved this issue once using CSS and i can't remember how. I would really appreciate any help. Here is our CSS code: http://pastebin.com/aj4bffG9

  • HTML text-area editor for code that traps TAB key

    - by Cristi Cotovan
Hello, I have looked for months now, for JavaScript-based HTML editor I can embed onto my web pages to replace a TEXTAREA, but to enable me to edit CODE in a friendly, closer to a real editor, way. All editors I've tried (RadEditor from Telerik, FCKEditor, TinyMCE, etc etc), do not trap the TAB key, very useful when editing HTML code onto a page, to help format the code properly. I'm not talking about syntax highlighting, as that would be an awesome plus. But I am mainly wondering if there is such an editor. I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

  • Using colon in html tag and handle its element in javascript

    - by Fabien Bernede
    Hello, why my "myns:button" don't become red in IE 6 / 7 / 8 unlike in Firefox / Opera / Safari / Chrome ? <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function() { var tmp = document.getElementsByTagName('myns:button'); for (i = 0; i < tmp.length; i++) { tmp[i].style.color = '#FF0000'; } }; </script> </head> <body> <myns:button>My NS Button</myns:button> </body> </html> I already tried to prepend the following to my js : document.createElement('myns:button'); But that doesn't work in IE, why ? Thanks.

  • Is there any HTML wysiwyg editor?

    - by martin
I wonder whether there is any good WYSIWYG editor when it comes to editing complex HTML pages generated from ASP.NET, PHP, GWT or anything else. I've tried a lot of WYSIWYG tools, but after a certain point I always end up with manually editing the HTML source code or CSS to fix different issues. The editors I've tried are never compatible with the ASP.NET/PHP/etc code I'm writing. Edit: I have used Visual Studio for a few years to do ASP.NET development. After a while, it always comes to the point where I can't even open the pages and user controls because they rely on so many things which aren't available in debug time.

  • Flex/AIR/HTML PDF scriptable viewer

    - by Lizzan
Hi all! I've written a PowerPoint-like application in Flash, and now our client would like to view the speaker notes (a PDF file) on a separate screen while using the application. What I would need is a separate application/html page which can show the PDF and programmatically change page when the master slide changes. Is this possible? If so, is it easiest to go with a html page + javascript or a Flex/AIR app? It needs to be done without changing the PDF's, since there are 600+ files that need to be viewable.

  • How to wrap text of html button with fixed width

    - by Peter
I just noticed that if you give a html button a fixed width, the text inside the button is never wrapped. I've tried it with word-wrap, but that cuts of the word even though there are spaces available to wrap on. How can I make the text of an html button with a fixed width wrap like any tablecell would? <td class="category_column"> <input type="submit" name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$DataList1$ctl12$ProCat_NameButton" value="Roos Sturingen / Sensors" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_DataList1_ctl12_ProCat_NameButton" class="outset" style="height:118px;width:200px;font-size:18px;color:#7F7F7F;width:200px;white-space:pre;" /> </td> the css classes do nothing but adding borders and modify the padding. If I add word-wrap:break-word to this button, it will wrap it like this: Roos Sturingen / Sen sors And I dont want it to cut of in the middle of a word if it is possible to cut it off between words. Thanks

  • convert HTML to PDF with dynamic image using PD4ML

    - by vishwanath
We are using PD4ML library to convert HTML to PDF. Is there any way with which I can include a image from the internet in my HTML to convert it into PDF. I am having problem in getting the image into PDF. I tried using base parameter in the PD4ML library but that didn't worked out. May be I am doing something wrong or PD4ML doesn't support including image from the internet. Because when I discussed my problem with other colleagues, found out that when we use the image from local server it gets to the PDF but image from internet don't. I am bound to use PD4ML, so solution with PD4ML only will be highly appreciated.

  • How can I convert input to HTML Characters correctly

    - by Codex73
Let's say I'm including a file which contains html. The html have characters as exclamation symbols, Spanish accents (á, ó). The parsed included text gets processed as symbols instead of their correct value. This happens on FF but not on IE (8). I have tried the following functions: htmlspecialchars, htmlentities, utf8_encode include htmlentities("cont/file.php"); Sample file.php contents: <div>Canción, “Song Name”</div> Output: Canci?n, ?Song Name?

  • javascript problems when generating html reports from within java

    - by posdef
    Hi, I have been working on a Java project in which the reports will be generated in HTML, so I am implementing methods for creating these reports. One important functionality is to be able to have as much info as possible in the tables, but still not clutter too much. In other words the details should be available if the user wishes to take a look at them but not necessarily visible by default. I have done some searching and testing and found an interesting template for hiding/showing content with the use of CSS and javascript, the problem is that when I try the resultant html page the scripts dont work. I am not sure if it's due a problem in Java or in the javascript itself. I have compared the html code that java produces to the source where I found the template, they seem to match pretty well. Below are bits of my java code that generates the javascript and the content, i would greatly appreciate if anyone can point out the possible reasons for this problem: //goes to head private void addShowHideScript() throws IOException{ StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.append("<script type=\"text/javascript\" language=\"JavaScript\">\n"); sb.append("<!--function HideContent(d) {\n"); sb.append("document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"none\";}\n"); sb.append("function ShowContent(d) {\n"); sb.append("document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"block\";}\n"); sb.append("function ReverseDisplay(d) {\n"); sb.append("if(document.getElementById(d).style.display==\"none\")\n"); sb.append("{ document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"block\"; }\n"); sb.append("else { document.getElementById(d).style.display=\"none\"; }\n}\n"); sb.append("//--></script>\n"); out.write(sb.toString()); out.newLine(); } // body private String linkShowHideContent(String pathname, String divname){ StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.append("<a href=\"javascript:ReverseDisplay('"); sb.append(divname); sb.append("')\">"); sb.append(pathname); sb.append("</a>"); return sb.toString(); } // content out.write(linkShowHideContent("hidden content", "ex")); out.write("<div id=\"ex\" style=\"display:block;\">"); out.write("<p>Content goes here.</p></div>");

  • Generate dynamic html

    - by Fred
Hi all, to export some data i want to be able to generate an html output. I have some constant content to output, like html headers and footers. My question is how to deal with that ? Do I have to embed some template (in a ressource file) and parse it to make it dynamic ? Do I store my static content in some constant (is there a 255 char limit?) and append them while generating the dynamic content ? Do you have some hints, useful links, or best practices to share? Thanks

  • HTML Chrome Audit Specify Image Dimensions

    - by AKRamkumar
I just started using the chrome developer tools for some basic html websites and I used the audit tool. I had two identical images, one with the height and width attribute, and one without. On the Resources section, both the latency and the download time were identical. However, the Audit showed Specify image dimensions (1) A width and height should be specified for all images in order to speed up page display. Does this actually help? And are there any other ways to speed up page time? This is only a splash page for the website I am building and as such it is only html, no css or javascript or anything. I have already compressed the images but I want to speed up load time even more. Is there a way?
