  • Issues with Ext-JS 1.1 date fields and Firefox 3.x / IE 8

    I'm modifying an older website for a client that uses Ext-JS 1.1 and I'm having issues with display of date fields in IE and particularly Firefox. The site was left in a semi-implemented state previously, so there's not been a perceived problem before. In Chrome and Safari everything looks fine and the datepicker drops down and displays correctly. However in Firefox the picker is displayed widened to cover the maximum scrollable brower width (very wide indeed), and in IE it's truncated to about two thirds of the width it should be. I am somewhat uncertain that this is due to our css, but because Chrome and Safari work fine I think it might be a problem with Ext-js itself. I realise that this is an old version of Ext-JS, but because everything else works fine I don't want to go to the trouble of upgrading unless that would be very straightforward (but how difficult would that be?) I don't myself use ExtJS and this is the only website my client has with it - so I'm really looking for the simplest possible solution.

  • 100% height on nested table cell in IE

    I want a nested table to expand to the height of the enclosing cell. This works as expected in Firefox/Chrome/Safari, but not in IE7 or IE8. Please see the example here: http://www.bitmechanic.com/heightDemo.html The DOCTYPE is relevant. While the demo above validates as HTML 4.01 Strict, it does not render properly in IE7. If I remove the DOCTYPE entirely, or set it to HTML 3.2, it renders properly in IE. Any suggestions on how to get this to render in 4.01 (strict or loose)? The actual web site is a bit more complicated -- changing the DOCTYPE will cause all sorts of other problems. We're struggling to understand the (presumed) IE bug here and how to work around it. thanks -- James

  • Error calling webservice using JSONP + jquery with IE on remote domain

    I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors.     I'm using the 960.gs CSS framework on a site and have hit problems almost instantly with IE (7, though I assume 6 is no better). <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/reset.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/960.css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="design/text.css" /> </head> <body> <div class="container_12">abc</div> </body> </html> Given this HTML above (the CSS is just the files bundled with 960), Firefox and Chrome centre the grid, whereas IE pushes it to the left. I've used 960 before without any issues, so I think I must just be doing something really stupid. Can anyone help?

  • Problem with jQuery.ajax with 'delete' method in ie

    I have a page where the user can edit various content using buttons and selects that trigger ajax calls. In particular, one action causes a url to be called remotely, with some data and a 'put' request, which (as i'm using a restful rails backend) triggers my update action. I also have a delete button which calls the same url but with a 'delete' request. The 'update' ajax call works in all browsers but the 'delete' one doesn't work in IE. So, it fails before it even makes the call. I can't work out why - the 'msg' i get back from the error block is blank. Any ideas anyone? Is this a known problem? I've tested it in ie6 and ie8 and it doesn't work in either. thanks - max EDIT - the solution - thanks to Nick Craver for pointing me in the right direction. Rails (and maybe other frameworks?) has a subterfuge for the unsupported put and delete requests: a post request with the parameter "_method" (note the underscore) set to 'put' or 'delete' will be treated as if the actual request type was that string. So, in my case, i made this change - note the 'data' option': jQuery.ajax({ async:true, data: {"_method":"delete"}, dataType:'script', type:'post', url:"/quizzes/"+quizId+"/quiz_questions/"+quizQuestionId, success: function(msg){ alert("success"); initializeQuizQuestions(); setSelectStatus(quizQuestionId, true); jQuery("tr[id*='quiz_question_"+quizQuestionId+"']").removeClass('selected'); }, error: function(msg){ alert("error:" + msg); } }); } Rails will now treat this as if it were a delete request, preserving the REST system. The reason my PUT example worked was just because in this particular case IE was happy to send a PUT request, but it officially does not support them so it's best to do this for PUT requests as well as DELETE requests.

Basically I have <ol><li> <span class="main"> <span class="test1"></span> <span class="test2"></span> <span class="test3"> <span id="test4"></span> <span id="special" class="special"> <span class="test4">TEXT</span> </span> </span> </li></ol> Basically, in IE when I try and make the id="special" have rounded corners - i get a distorted view. I think its something related to problems with referencing li elements using jQuery('#special').corner('5px'); Could anyone help :) ?

  • Hide horizontal scrollbar in IE 7 and below

    Hi all. Basically, I'm having trouble removing the horizontal scrollbar in Internet Explorer 7 and Below. I've tried the code below and It seems to work fine in every browser except IE. overflow-x: hidden; The even bigger problem is that, even though the scrollbar isn't even removed, it seems to completely screw the layout.. It somehow hides the majority of the page content in boxes 2 and 3? It also.. adds a second vertical scrollbar which moves relatively/absolute positioned items down?! I did contemplate just leaving the scrollbar in IE via a specified stylesheet, but even that seems to be messing with the page? The website is on a test directory here..   • IE is ignoring Z-Index on positioned elements

    IE yet again is proving to be the bane of my existence. The top of a site I'm working on has a horizontal menu, an item of which triggers a pure-CSS menu that is positioned absolute within the parent menu DIV (positioned relative). This places the menu perfectly in both IE and the W3C compliant browsers. The problem arises when I have more positioned elements further down on the page. These are also positioned relative, because there is data inside them that needs to be positioned absolute... again, this displays properly in all browsers I've tested it on. The problem is, that then the top menu is opened, part is obscured by the positioned elements further down the page - in effect, it's positioned BELOW these elements even though there are z-index properties defined on all. (in both the CSS file and inline). The only way to get IE to display this properly is to place the actual HTML for the menu at the bottom of the page, below (in DOM terms) the positioned elements elsewhere on the page. I would only do this as an absolute last resort. All Elements are the same type (div).   • IE 8 Caching Problem

    One of my javascript sources had an extra comma that was throwing an error in IE8. So I opened up my editor, deleted the comma, and saved. I reloaded IE8, but it was still pulling the old js file. I deleted everything in "Delete Browsing History...", and restarted the browser. It is still pulling the old file. I even set up a log on my server to show whenever the js file was requested. When reloading with IE, the js file is never requested. I tried doing the same process in Chrome and FF, and it pulled the new file and logged properly on the server. Is there some other cache that I am failing to clear in IE that would cause this problem?

I've been doing plenty of searches to try and find what may be the issue, but by all accounts ive read, the code ive posted above should work. i havent used jquery for AJAX, but ive seen it recommended when others have had issues with httprequest objects. could i just replace the mess above with a couple lines of jquery and assume that it will take care of IE's ugliness?   • Disable auto resize this page when opening in IE

    If open yahoo finance chart in IE, the chart will be resized to fit the viewing window, and making the chart viewable without scrolling down. However, this makes the chart become smaller for me. I would like to see original size, which requires me to click the setting bar and change something to make it restore original size. The chart shows original size in Chrome. Is it possible to view original size in IE by passing some parameters in url? I was trying looking into source code but found nothing.

  • IE 8 dialog windows not decompressing files

    Hi, I've got a website where we have pre-compressed all of our HTML files. In general this works fine, but since IE 8 has come out some people are finding that they can not use some parts of the website. We've used the showModalDialog command to open a dialog window and pointing to one of our pre-compressed files but it displays it just show up as strange characters (ie not decompressed). Now it only happens in the dialog. I'm pretty sure our compression is all fine because the page they are viewing to open the dialog is also compressed. Has anyone else come across this or got any suggestions cuz i'm stumped??? Thanks, Mike

  • valid json still fails on IE with jquery's ajax or getJSON callbacks

Please try again."); } }); that's the actual code with the callback stripped for security purposes... this works fine in firefox which actually executes what's on the callback function but IE simply fails and proceeds to writing my log i've read alot that the primary reason the JSON calls fails for IE is whenever there are trailing commas or simply malformed JS but i used JSONLint already and verified that my json object is a valid one :(

    Hi, I have some code that works fine in FF but not in IE. I have read other posts saying that the Jquery live method does not support change events but I am using a click event. Here is my code, it is inside $(document).ready(function(): $("a").live("click", function(e) { alert("link clicked"); //do stuff }); If FF the alert is fired but not in IE. When I use $("a").click it works fine, the problem is that I need to the function to be applied to links that do not exist when the page is first loaded (they will be created via ajax calls at a later stage). Do I have any options here. We are using jquery-1.4.1.min.js. Thanks in advance

  • jquery ui modal dialog problems in IE

    I use jquery ui dialog widget. Everything works fine in FF, Opera etc., except IE. The problem is that when dialog is opened in Internet Explorer, some space (not covered with that "modal gray layer") is added at the bottom of the document, and page is scrolled to the bottom. So I don't even see the dialog, I have to scroll up, to see it fully. Anyone had that problems? Any solutions? EDIT: now I see, that this "bottom space" is also added in FireFox, but it doesn't scroll to it like in IE.

I need to programmatically (Winforms, VB.NET) check if a site is in the Allowed Sites list of the IE Pop-Up Blocker (IE 7 and 8 and Windows XP, Vista and 7) and if not, add it. The application is fully trusted and I don't want to disable the Pop-Up blocker entirely. To clarify some things, this is for a web-automation application with several users across 3 countries. I want to avoid receiving tons of emails and explaining each time how to add the website to the Allowed Sites manually. Also, some of the users have Google Toolbar installed, which also has a Popup Blocker creating trouble to my app. Can this also be done programmatically?

  • Javascript: replacing newlines with <br/> working in FF and SAFARI and not working in IE

    I was thinking that replacing \n with with javascript was quite a simple task, but it seems not to be so. Posts in Ask Ben or StackOverflow suggest that something as simple as: dst= dst.replace (/\n/g, "<br/>"); $("div.descr").html(dst); will get the job done. Indeed, this work in FF and Safari but not in IE. Text has been created in a textarea and then stored in a database, then retrieved without further processing. It works using FF on windows and Safari on Mac. IE on windows, nada. Is it a major bug in my head? Is it a JQuery issue? Have some idea about how to solve this? And possible reason for? Many thanks

  • Internet Explorer changes brightness

    I have a very annoying problem with IE8 on Vista: My screen brightness changes when I view a page with IE. It slowly dimms brightness some 20% - enough to be noticeable. This seems to be dependent on the OVERALL brightness of the page viewed or of the amount of bright space on the page... sometimes it dimms down if the page is bright, sometimes the complete different, it dimms when lot of dark space is on the page. I know this sounds weird, I cannot describe it better. It takes about one,two seconds from on brightness level to the other. This ONLY occurs in IE - not in Word or any other application. Please help! This dimming is very stressfull for my eyes.

  • Inconsistent Loading Times for GeoRSS Overlay Between Firefox and IE

    I have a very simple page built to display a map and overlay a line based on points in a GeoRSS XML file. Here is the publicly accessible file. http://68.178.230.189/georssimport.html Firefox is loading in about 5 secs, which is expected because there are a lot of points to map, but IE (6 & 7) is taking upwards of 45 secs to a minute.
