  • jQuery toggle caching / cookies

    - by user1706680
    I’m using the jQuery toggle function for my navigation. By default the Authors toggle is visible, the Archives toggle is closed. http://jsfiddle.net/TeDFs/4/ My problem is that when the users switches to another page the toggles reset themselves. For example, when the user closes the Authors toggle and opens the Archive toggle and then navigates to another page the default settings are loaded. I read that it’s possible to store the settings via cookies but I’m absolutely new to jQuery and it would be great if somebody could help me out! HTML <div id="authors" class="widget"> <h2 class="widget-title-visible">Authors</h2> <div class="toggle"> <div class="submenu"> <ul> <li>Name 1</li> <li>Name 2</li> <li>Name 3</li> <li>Name 3</li> </ul> </div> </div> <div id="archives" class="widget"> <h2 class="widget-title">Archiv</h2> <div class="toggle hidden"> <div class="submenu"> <ul> <li>November 2012</li> <li>Oktober 2012</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div>? jQuery function toggleWidgets() { jQuery('.widget-title').addClass('plus'); jQuery('.widget-title-visible').addClass('minus'); jQuery('.widget-title').click(function() { $(this).toggleClass('plus').toggleClass('minus').next().toggle(180); }); jQuery('.widget-title-visible').click(function() { $(this).toggleClass('minus').toggleClass('plus').next().toggle(180); }); } jQuery(document).ready(function() { toggleWidgets(); } )? CSS .hidden{ display:none; } .plus { background: url(http://moargh.de/daten/sidebar_arrows.png) 0 5px no-repeat; padding: 0 0 0 12px; } .minus { background: url(http://moargh.de/daten/sidebar_arrows.png) 0 -10px no-repeat; padding: 0 0 0 12px; }

  • Simple html page using Bootstrap

  • Use JQuery to target unwrapped text inside a div

    - by Chris
    I'm trying to find a way to wrap just the inner text of an element, I don't want to target any other inner dom elements. For example. <ul> <li class="this-one"> this is my item <ul> <li> this is a sub element </li> </ul> </li> </ul> I want to use jQuery to do this. <ul> <li class="this-one"> <div class="tree-item-text">this is my item</div> <ul> <li> <div class="tree-item-text">this is a sub element</div> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> A little background is I need to make an in-house tree structure ui element, So I'm using the UL structure to represent this. But I don't want developers to have to do any special formatting to use the widget. update: I just wanted to add the purpose of this is I want to add a click listener to be able to expand the elements under the li, However, since those elements are within the li the click listener will activate even when clicking on the children, So I want to attach it to the text instead, to do this the text needs to be targetable, which is why I want to wrap it in a div of it's own. So far I've come up with wrapping all the inner elements of the li in a div and then moving all inner dom elements back to the original parent. But this code is pretty heavy for something that might be much simpler and not require so much DOM manipulation. EDIT: Want to share the first pseudo alternative I came up with but I think it is very tasking for what I want to accomplish. var innerTextThing = $("ul.tree ul").parents("li").wrapInner("<div class='tree-node-text'>"); $(innerTextThing.find(".tree-node-text")).each(function(){ $(this).after($(this).children("ul")); }); Answered: I ended up doing the following, FYI i only have to worry about FF and IE compatibility so it's untested in other browsers. //this will wrap all li textNodes in a div so we can target them. $(that).find("li").contents() .filter(function () { return this.nodeType == 3; }).each(function () { if ( //these are for IE and FF compatibility (this.textContent != undefined && this.textContent.trim() != "") || (this.innerText != undefined && this.innerText.trim() != "") ) { $(this).wrap("<div class='tree-node-text'>"); } });

  • How to stop Django from adding extra html elements to rendered widgets.

    - by stinkypyper
    I have a Django radio button group that renders to HTML as follows: <ul> <li><label for="id_package_id_0"><input type="radio" id="id_package_id_0" value="1" name="package_id" /> Test 256</label></li> <li><label for="id_package_id_1"><input type="radio" id="id_package_id_1" value="2" name="package_id" /> Test 384</label></li> <li><label for="id_package_id_2"><input type="radio" id="id_package_id_2" value="3" name="package_id" /> Test 512</label></li> <li><label for="id_package_id_3"><input type="radio" id="id_package_id_3" value="4" name="package_id" /> Test 768</label></li> <li><label for="id_package_id_4"><input type="radio" id="id_package_id_4" value="5" name="package_id" /> Test 1024</label></li> </ul> I need it to render without being a list. I am a aware of form.as_p, form.as_table, and form.as_ul. They will not help me as they continue to add extra HTML tags. As well, I am not using the form object in it's absolute entirety, just for validation. I am doing a custom template for the form already, but wish to continue to the radio widget.

  • jQuery Accordion /Tabs - Call different function upon load of content

Upon completion of the load event, I'd like to call a JavaScript function, but a different function for each tab -- almost like calling onDocumentReady for a page. I have the following JavaScript: $(function() { $('#tabs').tabs().bind('tabsselect', function(event, ui) { console.log("Loading: ajax/question_" + ui.index + ".html"); return true; //Ensure that the tab gets selected }); ); That's properly loading the Ajax file and all, but whenever I attempt to do something such as evaluating a statement in the JS, it seems to be ignored. Is there any way I can do this, so that once the file is loaded my function is called -- needs to be a different function for each tab.

    This is a loop in a function intending to create elements <li> and give each <li> an unique id. But it's not working. I suspect it's a simple syntax error with the use of quote in .attr(). But I can't get a straight answer from Google. for (i=0;i<array.length;i++) { //create HTML element of tag li $('#suggest').append("<li></li>"); $("li").attr("id",'li'+i); $('#li'+i).html(array[i]); }

  • Getting HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR when using Javascript to recursively generate a nested list

    - by Mark
    I have a method that is trying to take in a list. This list can contain data and other lists. The end goal is to try to convert something like this ["a", "b", ["c", "d"]] into <ol> <li> <b>a</a> </li> <li> <b>b</a> </li> <ol> <li> <b>c</a> </li> <li> <b>d</a> </li> </ol> </ol> The code is: function $(tagName) { return document.createElement(tagName); } //returns an html element representing data //data should be an array or some sort of value function tagMaker(data) { tag = null; if(data instanceof Array) { //data is an array, represent using <ol> tag = $("ol"); for(i=0; i<data.length; i++) { //construct one <li> for each item in the array listItem = $("li"); //get the html element representing this particular item in the array child = tagMaker(data[i]); //<li>*html for child*</li> listItem.appendChild(child); //add this item to the list tag.appendChild(listItem); } } else { //data is not an array, represent using <b>data</b> tag = $("b"); tag.innerHTML = data.toString(); } return tag; } Calling tagMaker throws HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR: DOM Exception 3, rather than generating a helpful HTML element object which I was planning to append to document.body.

  • Why is this UL and inline JS giving errors during HTML validation?

    - by thor
    I've just run the homepage of a site I'm working on through the w3c HTML validator and it's come back with 3 errors and 2 warnings. I've taken a look at them but can't see why they would be causing a problem. I've pasted them in below (I've removed URL's/strings etc as the site isn't quite ready to be made public yet). This is being validated against XHTML Transitional by the way. The UL comes back with the following error: end tag for "ul" which is not finished <ul id='tabs'></ul> <ul id='tabs'> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat1" class="tab1" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab1_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat2" class="tab2" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab2_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat3" class="tab3" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab3_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat4" class="tab4" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab4_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat5" class="tab5" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab5_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat6" class="tab6" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab6_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat7" class="tab7" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab7_text </span> </a> </li> <li> <a href="/en/folder/folder/search?categories[]=cat8" class="tab8" title="tab_title"> <img alt="img_alt" src="img_src" /> <span> tab8_text </span> </a> </li> </ul> For the inline javascript, I'm getting 2 errors and 2 warnings all for the same thing - I have a simple if statement with && and the validator appears to be seeing this as HTML rather than javascript: character "&amp;" is the first character of a delimiter but occurred as data and xmlParseEntityRef: no name <script type='text/javascript'> if (weather_data != null && weather_data['data'] != null){ display_weather(); } </script> The javascript is placed just before the body close tag at the end of the document.   • Are browsers permitted to render <li>s in any order?

    - by ctford
    As I understand the XML spec, the significance of the order of child elements is not guaranteed. XML parsers tend to keep child elements in the same order as they occur in the XML document, but they are under no obligation to do so. If that's so, then are browsers free to render the <li>s in an <ol> or an <ul> in a different order than they occur in the XHTML? Or is it specified in the XHTML spec somewhere that order has to be preserved? I realise that all major browsers will respect the order of my <li>s. I'm just interested in the academic question of whether or not they are technically obliged to.

For www.rare1.ca/test: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Responsive HTML5/CSS3 template</title> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <meta name = "viewport" content = "width=device-width, maximum-scale = 1, minimum- scale=1" /> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/default.css" media="all" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/flexslider.css" type="text/css" /> <link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=PT+Sans' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' /> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"> </script> <script src="js/jquery.flexslider.js"></script> <script src="js/default.js"></script> <!--[if lt IE 9]> <script src="http://html5shim.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script> <script src="js/respond.min.js"></script> <![endif]--> </head> <body> <div id="pagewidth"> <header id="header"> <div class="center"> <nav id="mainNav"> <ul> <li class="active"><a href="#pagewidth"><span>gallery</span></a></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li><a href="#contactUs"><span>contact us</span></a></li> </ul> </nav> </div> </header> <div id="content"> <section class="row"> <div class="center"> <h1><img src="img/logo.gif" width="142" height="78"></h1> <strong class="subHeading">Coming soon</strong> <div class="gallery"> <ul class="slides"> <li><img src="img/img-gallery.jpg" alt="image" /></li> <li><img src="img/img-gallery2.jpg" alt="image" /></li> <li><img src="img/img-gallery3.jpg" alt="image" /></li> </ul> </div> <div class="buttons"></div> </div> </section> <section id="contactUs" class="row grey"> <div class="center"> <h1>Contact Us</h1> <strong class="subHeading">lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit</strong> <div class="columns"> <div class="half"> <form action="sendemail.php" class="form"> <fieldset> <h2>Feedback form</h2> <div class="formRow"> <div class="textField"><input type="text" name="Name" id="name" placeholder="Your name ..." /></div> </div> <div class="formRow"> <div class="textField"><input type="text" name="Email" id="email" placeholder="Your Email ..." /></div> </div> <div class="formRow"> <div class="textField"><textarea name="Message" cols="20" rows="4" placeholder="Your message ..."></textarea> </div> </div> <div class="formRow"> <button class="btnSmall btn submit right"> <span>Send Message</span> </button> </div> </fieldset> </form> </div> <div class="half"> <h2>How to find us</h2> <div id="map"> <div class="imgHolder"><img src="img/map.jpg" alt="google map" /></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> </div> <footer id="footer"> <div class="center"> </div> </footer> </div> </body> </html> <?php // This is the script for sending email. // change the email address below to your own email address. $mailTo = '[email protected]'; $name = htmlspecialchars($_POST['Name']); $mailFrom = htmlspecialchars($_POST['Email']); $message_text = htmlspecialchars($_POST['Message']); $headers = "From: $name <$mailFrom>\n"; $headers .= "Reply-To: $name <$mailFrom>\n"; $message = $message_text; mail($mailTo, $subject, $message, $headers ); ?>
