• WPF - List View Row Index and Validation

- by abhishek
Hi, I have a ListView with TextBoxes in second column. I want to validate that my text box does not contain a number if the third column(data_type) is "Text". I am unable to do the validation. I tried a few approaches. In one approach I try to handle the MouseDown event and am trying to get the Row number so that I can get the data_type value of that row. I want to us this value in the Validate method. I have been struggling for a week now. Would appreciate if anybody could help. <ControlTemplate x:Key="validationTemplate"> <DockPanel> <TextBlock Foreground="Red" FontSize="20">!</TextBlock> <AdornedElementPlaceholder/> </DockPanel> </ControlTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="textTemplate"> <TextBox HorizontalAlignment= "Stretch" IsEnabled="{Binding XPath=./@isenabled}" Validation.ErrorTemplate="{StaticResource validationTemplate}" Style="{StaticResource textBoxInError}"> <TextBox.Text> <Binding XPath="./@value" UpdateSourceTrigger="PropertyChanged"> <Binding.ValidationRules> <local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation> <local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation.DataType> <local:DataTypeCheck Datatype="{Binding Source={StaticResource dataProvider}, XPath='/[@id=CustomerServiceQueueName]'}"/> </local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation.DataType> <local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation.ValidRange> <local:Int32RangeChecker Minimum="{Binding Source={StaticResource dataProvider}, XPath=./@min}" Maximum="{Binding Source={StaticResource dataProvider}, XPath=./@max}"/> </local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation.ValidRange> </local:TextBoxMinMaxValidation> </Binding.ValidationRules> </Binding > </TextBox.Text> </TextBox> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="dropDownTemplate"> <ComboBox Name="cmbBox" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" SelectedIndex="{Binding XPath=./@value}" ItemsSource="{Binding XPath=.//OPTION/@value}" IsEnabled="{Binding XPath=./@isenabled}" /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Key="booldropDownTemplate"> <ComboBox Name="cmbBox" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" SelectedIndex="{Binding XPath=./@value, Converter={StaticResource boolconvert}}"> <ComboBoxItem>True</ComboBoxItem> <ComboBoxItem>False</ComboBoxItem> </ComboBox> </DataTemplate> <local:ControlTemplateSelector x:Key="myControlTemplateSelector"/> <ControlTemplate x:Key="ListBoxItemControlTemplate1" TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Border SnapsToDevicePixels="true" x:Name="Bd" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="{DynamicResource {x:Static SystemColors.ActiveBorderBrushKey}}" Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}" BorderThickness="0,0.5,0,0.5"> <GridViewRowPresenter SnapsToDevicePixels="{TemplateBinding SnapsToDevicePixels}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}"/> </Border> </ControlTemplate> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid x:Name="GridViewControl" Height="Auto"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> <RowDefinition Height="34"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <ListView x:Name="ListViewControl" Grid.Row="0" ItemContainerStyle="{DynamicResource StretchedContainerStyle}" ItemTemplateSelector="{DynamicResource myControlTemplateSelector}" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource dataProvider}, XPath=//CONFIGURATION}"> <ListView.View > <GridView > <GridViewColumn Header="ID" HeaderContainerStyle="{StaticResource CustomHeaderStyle}" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding XPath=./@id}"/> <GridViewColumn Header="VALUE" HeaderContainerStyle="{StaticResource CustomHeaderStyle}" CellTemplateSelector="{DynamicResource myControlTemplateSelector}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="DATATYPE" HeaderContainerStyle="{StaticResource CustomHeaderStyle}" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding XPath=./@data_type}"/> <GridViewColumn Header="DESCRIPTION" HeaderContainerStyle="{StaticResource CustomHeaderStyle}" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding XPath=./@description}" Width="{Binding ElementName=ListViewControl, Path=ActualWidth}"/> </GridView> </ListView.View> </ListView> <StackPanel Grid.Row="1"> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Center" Orientation="Horizontal" FlowDirection="RightToLeft" Height="30"> </StackPanel > </StackPanel > </Grid>

• How do I combine static and dynamic DHCP leases on a Cisco router?

- by Brad
Basically, what I need is super similar to the unanswered cisco forum question below: https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3139749#3139749 I have a Cisco 850 Series router. I have configured a DHCP pool for the 10.0.0.0/24 network. I have excluded 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.99 from the DHCP pool. I want to add a static DHCP pool for stuff and I want DHCP to statically assign them the addresses of my choice below 100. Actually, I don't care what addresses I statically assign. They can be anything in the pool for all I care, I just want it to work. Why are you doing this? Just statically assign the IPs on the devices! I don't want to do this because I have some laptop users. They could obviously only use that static IP here. This isn't a problem if they could be bothered to change any location setting or something. They can't. So it HAS to be DHCP. It also has to be static IPs because I need to forward ports to them. I know, I know, this is weird but it's an apartment LAN/WLAN so this isn't exactly a typical use case. Relevant sections of config below: ip dhcp excluded-address 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.99 ! ip dhcp pool Internal-net import all network 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 default-router 10.0.0.1 domain-name 1770.local lease 7 ! ip dhcp pool static-pool import all origin file flash://staticmap default-router 10.0.0.1 domain-name 1770.local Contents of staticmap: *time* Aug 5 2010 09:00 AM *version* 2 !IP address Type Hardware address Lease expiration 10.0.0.100/24 1 001f.5b3e.d50a Infinite *end* You can see here I was trying addresses outside the excluded-address range to see if that would make any difference. My testing machine's MAC: mainframe:~ brad$ ifconfig en1 en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether 00:1f:5b:3e:d5:0a What shows up in the DHCP binding table: basestar#show ip dhcp binding Bindings from all pools not associated with VRF: IP address Client-ID/ Lease expiration Type Hardware address/ User name 10.0.0.112 0100.1f5b.3ed5.0a Aug 12 2010 10:06 AM Automatic What's up with the funny looking MAC in the DHCP binding table?? Is what I'm trying to accomplish basically impossible? Am I going about this the wrong way? All I want to to be able to port forward some ports to specific devices. The way I would do this with a consumer router is to do what I'm trying to do here; assign static DHCP to those devices then configure PAT for ports on those addresses.

• MVVM, ContextMenus and binding to ViewModel defined Command

- by Simon Fox
Hi I am having problems with the binding of a ContextMenu command to an ICommand property in my ViewModel. The binding seems to be attaching fine...i.e when I inspect the value of the ICommand property it is bound to an instance of RelayCommand. The CanExecute delegate does get invoked, however when I open the context menu and select an item the Execute delegate does not get invoked. Heres my View (which is defined as the DataTemplate to use for instances of the following ViewModel in a resource dictionary): <UserControl x:Class="SmartSystems.DragDropProto.ProductLinkView" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:local="clr-namespace:Proto"> <UserControl.Resources> <local:CenteringConverter x:Key="centeringConvertor"> </local:CenteringConverter> </UserControl.Resources> <UserControl.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Command="{Binding ChangeColor}">Change Color</MenuItem> </ContextMenu> </UserControl.ContextMenu>  <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointOneXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointOneYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse> <Line X1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneXPos}" Y1="{Binding Path=EndpointOneYPos}" X2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoXPos}" Y2="{Binding Path=EndpointTwoYPos}"> <Line.Stroke> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Line.Stroke> </Line> <Ellipse Width="5" Height="5" > <Ellipse.Fill> <SolidColorBrush Color="{Binding LinkColor}"></SolidColorBrush> </Ellipse.Fill> <Ellipse.RenderTransform> <TranslateTransform X="{Binding EndpointTwoXPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}" Y="{Binding EndpointTwoYPos, Converter={StaticResource centeringConvertor}}"/> </Ellipse.RenderTransform> </Ellipse>  </UserControl> and ViewModel (with uneccessary implementation details removed): class ProductLinkViewModel : BaseViewModel { public ICommand ChangeColor { get; private set; } public Color LinkColor { get; private set; } public ProductLinkViewModel(....) { ... ChangeColor = new RelayCommand(ChangeColorAction); LinkColor = Colors.Blue; } private void ChangeColorAction(object param) { LinkColor = LinkColor == Colors.Blue ? Colors.Red : Colors.Blue; OnPropertyChanged("LinkColor"); } }

• How to route public static IP to a virtual machine on a vmware ESXi host?

- by Kevin Southworth
I have 5 static IPs from my ISP (Comcast) and I have a physical machine with VMware ESXi 4.0 on it that is hosting multiple virtual machines. Right now I am just using the default vmware virtual network (vswitch0) with DHCP from the Comcast IP Gateway Router and everything is working fine. Each virtual machine can access the internet, etc. One of my virtual machines is a webserver (Windows Server 2008) and I want to assign it to 1 of my 5 static IPs so it's accessible from the public internet, while leaving the other VMs on the internal LAN still using DHCP. If I just plug my laptop directly into the Comcast IP Gateway (it has 4 ports on the back) and assign my laptop a Static IP using the windows networking dialogs, then I can hit my laptop from the public internet and it works great. However, if I try to do the same steps to set a static IP config on my Windows Server 2008 VM, it does not work. The VM cannot access the internet (open Firefox and try to visit google.com), and I cannnot see the VM from the public internet either. I'm assuming I'm missing something in the ESXi config somewhere, but I'm pretty new to ESXi and I'm not sure how to configure it to work this way.

• static block instance block java Order

- by Rollerball
Having read this question In what order are the different parts of a class initialized when a class is loaded in the JVM? and the related JLS. I would like to know in more detail why for example having class Animal (superclass) and class Dog (subclass) as following: class Animal { static{ System.out.println("This is Animal's static block speaking"): } { System.out.println("This is Animal's instance block speaking"); } class Dog{ static{ System.out.println("This is Dog's static block speaking"); } { System.out.println("This is Dog's instance block speaking"); } public static void main (String [] args) { Dog dog = new Dog(); } } Ok before instantiating a class its direct superclass needs to be initialized (therefore all the statics variables and block need to be executed). So basically the question is: Why after initializing the static variables and static blocks of the super class, control goes down to the subclass for static variables initialization rather then finishing off the initialization of also the instance member? The control goes like: superclass (Animal): static variables and static blocks subclass (Dog): static variables and static blocks superclass (Animal): instance variables and instance blocks sublcass (Dog):instance variables and instance blocks What is the reason why it is in this way rather than : superclass -> static members superclass -> instance members subclass -> static members sublcass-> instance members

• What is a good use case for static import of methods?

- by Miserable Variable
Just got a review comment that my static import of the method was not a good idea. The static import was of a method from a DA class, which has mostly static methods. So in middle of the business logic I had a da activity that apparently seemed to belong to the current class: import static some.package.DA.*; class BusinessObject { void someMethod() { .... save(this); } } The reviewer was not keen that I change the code and I didn't but I do kind of agree with him. One reason given for not static-importing was it was confusing where the method was defined, it wasn't in the current class and not in any superclass so it too some time to identify its definition (the web based review system does not have clickable links like IDE :-) I don't really think this matters, static-imports are still quite new and soon we will all get used to locating them. But the other reason, the one I agree with, is that an unqualified method call seems to belong to current object and should not jump contexts. But if it really did belong, it would make sense to extend that super class. So, when does it make sense to static import methods? When have you done it? Did/do you like the way the unqualified calls look? EDIT: The popular opinion seems to be that static-import methods if nobody is going to confuse them as methods of the current class. For example methods from java.lang.Math and java.awt.Color. But if abs and getAlpha are not ambiguous I don't see why readEmployee is. As in lot of programming choices, I think this too is a personal preference thing. Thanks for your response guys, I am closing the question.

• Why is my eth0 getting a dynamic ip when it is configured to be static?

- by sdek
For some reason our office linux box is being assigned an ip address via dhcp and I don't know why. What is confusing to me is that when I check system-config-network it shows that my eth0 is setup to be a static ip address. And /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 also shows it is setup to be a static ip, yet it is getting a different ip address than the one specified in the ifcfg-eth0. Let me know if you have any suggestions on or ideas on where I can look next. Here are a few details that might help you figure out what an idiot I am :) Fedora 11 Router in front of this box is running dhcp, starting at 10.42.1.100 This box is configured to be 10.42.1.50 (at least I think it is!), subnet 255.255.255.0 (which is same as the router's lan subnet) Instead of having the static IP, this box is getting assigned 10.42.1.100. Here are the ifcfg-eth0 details DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no NM_CONTROLLED=no NETMASK=255.255.255.0 IPADDR=10.42.1.50 GATEWAY=10.42.1.1

• How do i mitigate DDOS attacks on static servers?

- by acidzombie24
Here is a slightly different take on DDOS attacks. Rather than a server with dynamic content being attack i was curious how to deal with attacks on servers with STATIC CONTENT. This means cpu tends to not be an issue. Its either bandwidth or connection problems. How would i mitigate a DDOS attack knowing nothing about the attacker (for example country, ip address or anything else). I was wondering is shorting the timeout and increasing amount of connections is an acceptable solution? Or maybe that is completely useless? Also i would limit the amount of connections per IP address. Would the above help or be pointless? Keeping in mind everything is static checking for multiple request of the same page (html, css, js, etc) could be a sign of a attack. What are some measures i can take on a static content server?

• Two routers, one off-site, same ISP-assigned static IP. A recipe for conflict?

- by boost
This is the situation I've inherited: There are two routers, one off-site. Both are connected to the ISP. The ISP assigns both of them the same static IP (or so it seems). Presumably, the network problems we're having are related to the idea that you can't have two instances of the same IP. So we rang up the folk off-site and told them to turn off the router. Now everything's working okay here. How do I get around this? Get another static IP? Figure out how to get the router to ask for a dynamic IP (as we're not using the static IP for anything)?

• Save password in WCF adapter binding file

- by Edmund Zhao
Binding file for WCF Adapter doesn't save the password no matter it is generated by "Add Generated Items..." wizard in Visual Studio or "Export Bindings..." in administration console. It is by design dut to the consideration of security, but it is very annoying especially when you import bindings which contain multiple WCF send ports. The way to aviod retyping password everytime after an import is to edit the binding file before import. Here is what needs to be done. 1. Find the following string: <Password vt="1" /> "<" means "<", ">" means ">", "vt" means "Variable Type", variable type 1 is "NULL", so the above string can be translated to "<Password/>" 2. Replace it with: <Password vt="8">MyPassword</Password> variable type 8 is "string", the above string can be transalted to "<Password>MyPassword</Password>" Binding file uses a lot of character entity references for XML character encoding purpose. For a list of the special charactor entiy references, you can check from here. ...Edmund Zhao

• Treeview - Hierarchical Data Template - Binding does not update on source change?

- by ClearsTheScreen
Greetings! I ran into this problem in my project (Silverlight 3 with C#): I have a TreeView which is data bound to, well, a tree. This TreeView has a HierarchicalDataTamplate in a resource dictionary, that defines various controls. Now I want to hide (Visibility.Collapse) some items depending on wether a node has children or not. Other items shall be visible under the same condition. It works like charm when I first bind the source tree to the TreeView, but when I change the source tree, the visibility in the treeview does not change. XAML - page: <controls:TreeView x:Name="SankeyTreeView" ItemContainerStyle="{StaticResource expandedTreeViewItemStyle}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource SankeyTreeTemplate}"> <controls:TreeViewItem IsExpanded="True"> <controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Text="This is just for loading and will be replaced directly after the data becomes available..."/> </DataTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem.HeaderTemplate> </controls:TreeViewItem> </controls:TreeView> XAML - ResourceDictionary <Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate x:Key="SankeyTreeTemplate" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <Grid Height="24"> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockName" Text="{Binding Path=Value.name, Mode=TwoWay}" VerticalAlignment="Center" Foreground="Black"/> <TextBox x:Name="TextBoxFlow" Text="{Binding Path=Value.flow, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{box\}}"/> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlockThroughput" Text="{Binding Path=Value.throughput, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Column="1" Visibility="{Binding Children, Converter={StaticResource BoxConverter}, ConverterParameter=\{block\}}"/> </Grid> </Data:HierarchicalDataTemplate> Now, as you can see, the TextBoxFlow and the TextBlockThroughput share the same space. What I aim at: The "Throughput" value of a node is how much of something 'flows' through this node from its children. It can't be changed directly, so I want to display a text block. Only leaf nodes have a TextBox to let someone enter the 'flow' that is generated in this leaf node. (I.E.: Node.Throughput = Node.Flow + Sum(Children.Throughput), where Node.Flow = 0 for each non-leaf.) What the BoxConverter (silly name -.-) does: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if ((value as NodeList<TreeItem>).Count > 1) // Node has Children? { if ((parameter as String) == "{box}") { return Visibility.Collapsed; } else ((parameter as String) == "{block}") { return Visibility.Visible; } } else { /* * As above, just with Collapsed and Visible switched */ } } The structure of the tree that is bound to the TreeView is essentially stolen from Dan Vanderboom (a bit too much to dump the whole code here), except that I here of course use an ObservableCollection for the children and the value items implement INotifyPropertyChanged. I would be very grateful if someone could explain to me, why inserting items into the underlying tree does not update the visibility for box and block. Thank you in advance!

• Publish Static Content to WebLogic

- by James Taylor
Most people know WebLogic has a built in web server. Typically this is not an issue as you deploy java applications and WebLogic publishes to the web. But what if you just want to display a simple static HTML page. In WebLogic you can develop a simple web application to display static HTML content. In this example I used WLS 10.3.3. I want to display 2 files, an HTML file, and an xsd for reference. Create a directory of your choice, this is what I will call the document root. mkdir /u01/oracle/doc_root Copy the static files to this directory In the document root directory created in step 1 create the directory WEB-INF mkdir WEB-INF In the WEB-INF directory create a file called web.xml with the following content <web-app> </web-app> Login to the WebLogic console to deploy application Click on Deployments Click on Lock & Edit Click Install and set the path to the directory created in step 1 Leave default "Install this deployment as an application" and click Next Select a Managed Server to deploy to and click Next Accept the defaults and click Finish Deployment completes successfully, now click the Activate Changes You should now see the application started in the deployments You can now access your static content via the following URL http://localhost:7001/doc_root/helloworld.html

• Managing JS and CSS for a static HTML web application

- by Josh Kelley
I'm working on a smallish web application that uses a little bit of static HTML and relies on JavaScript to load the application data as JSON and dynamically create the web page elements from that. First question: Is this a fundamentally bad idea? I'm unclear on how many web sites and web applications completely dispense with server-side generation of HTML. (There are obvious disadvantages of JS-only web apps in the areas of graceful degradation / progressive enhancement and being search engine friendly, but I don't believe that these are an issue for this particular app.) Second question: What's the best way to manage the static HTML, JS, and CSS? For my "development build," I'd like non-minified third-party code, multiple JS and CSS files for easier organization, etc. For the "release build," everything should be minified, concatenated together, etc. If I was doing server-side generation of HTML, it'd be easy to have my web framework generate different development versus release HTML that includes multiple verbose versus concatenated minified code. But given that I'm only doing any static HTML, what's the best way to manage this? (I realize I could hack something together with ERB or Perl, but I'm wondering if there are any standard solutions.) In particular, since I'm not doing any server-side HTML generation, is there an easy, semi-standard way of setting up my static HTML so that it contains code like at development time and for release?

• Binding a select in a client template

- by Bertrand Le Roy
I recently got a question on one of my client template posts asking me how to bind a select tag’s value to data in client templates. I was surprised not to find anything on the web addressing the problem, so I thought I’d write a short post about it. It really is very simple once you know where to look. You just need to bind the value property of the select tag, like this: If you do it from markup like here, you just need to use the sys: prefix. It just works. Here’s the full source code for my sample page:

Binding a select tag

{{what}}  {{$dataItem}}

This produces the following page: Each of the items sees its color change as you select a different color in the drop-down. Other details worth noting in this page are the use of the script loader to get the framework from the CDN, and the sys:style-background-color syntax to bind the background color style property from markup. Of course, I’ve used a fair amount of custom ASP.NET Ajax markup in here, but everything could be done imperatively and with completely clean markup from the itemRendered event using Sys.bind.

• Add static ARP entries when network is brought up

- by jozzas
I have some pretty dumb IP devices on a subnet with my Ubuntu server, and the server receives streaming data from each device. I have run into a problem in that when an ARP request is issued to the device while it is streaming data to the server, the request is ignored, the cache entry times out and the server stops receiving the stream. So, to prevent the server from sending ARP requests to these devices altogether, I would like to add a static ARP entry for each, something like arp -i eth2 -s ip.of.the.device mac:of:the:device But these "static" ARP entries are lost if networking is disabled / enabled or if the server is rebooted. Where is the best place to automatically add these entries, preferably somewhere that will re-add them every time the interface eth2 is brought up? I really don't want to have to write a script that monitors the output of arp and re-adds the cache entries if they're missing. Edit to add what my final script was: Created the file /etc/network/if-up.d/add-my-static-arp With the contents: #!/bin/sh arp -i eth0 -s 192.168.0.4 00:50:cc:44:55:55 arp -i eth0 -s 192.168.0.5 00:50:cc:44:55:56 arp -i eth0 -s 192.168.0.6 00:50:cc:44:55:57 And then obviously add the permission to allow it to be executed: chmod +x /etc/network/if-up.d/add-my-static-arp And these arp entries will be manually added or re-added every time any network interface is brought up.

• How do I debug why an OSX key binding stopped working?

- by nall
Recently, I've realized that my ^A key binding has stopped working in OSX. My assumption is that some application has registered ^A as a hotkey, but I don't know that for certain. I don't recall installing anything new lately, but it's certainly possible that I did and just forgot. Some other pertinent info: ^A doesn't work in any application -- this isn't just a Terminal.app issue Other control combos (eg: ^E) still work as expected Looking through the Keyboard System Preferences pane shows nothing bound to ^A A reboot doesn't help However, logging into under a freshly made account does cause the issue to go away (i.e.: ^A works for the test account) My StandardKeyBinding.dict has the correct value for ^A Note: I don't have a DefaultKeyBinding.dict in /Library/KeyBindings or ~/Library/KeyBindings Any ideas on how to debug this?

- by devnet247
Hi all New to wpf and therefore struggling a bit. I am putting together a quick demo before we go for the full implementation I have a treeview on the left with Continent Country City structure when a user select the city it should populate some textboxes in a tabcontrol on the right hand side I made it sort of work but cannot make it work with composite objects. In a nutshell can you spot what is wrong with my zaml or code. Why is not binding to a my CityDetails.ClubsCount or CityDetails.PubsCount? What I am building is based on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/TreeViewWithViewModel.aspx Thanks a lot for any suggestions or reply DataModel public class City { public City(string cityName) { CityName = cityName; } public string CityName { get; set; } public string Population { get; set; } public string Area { get; set; } public CityDetails CityDetailsInfo { get; set; } } public class CityDetails { public CityDetails(int pubsCount, int clubsCount) { PubsCount = pubsCount; ClubsCount = clubsCount; } public int ClubsCount { get; set; } public int PubsCount { get; set; } } ViewModel public class CityViewModel : TreeViewItemViewModel { private City _city; private RelayCommand _testCommand; public CityViewModel(City city, CountryViewModel countryViewModel):base(countryViewModel, false) { _city = city; } public string CityName { get { return _city.CityName; } } public string Area { get { return _city.Area; } } public string Population { get { return _city.Population; } } public City City { get { return _city; } set { _city = value; } } public CityDetails CityDetailsInfo { get { return _city.CityDetailsInfo; } set { _city.CityDetailsInfo = value; } } } XAML <DockPanel> <DockPanel LastChildFill="True"> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> <StatusBarItem Content="Status Bar" ></StatusBarItem> </StatusBar> <Grid DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="2*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <TreeView Name="tree" ItemsSource="{Binding Continents}"> <TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> </TreeView.ItemContainerStyle> <TreeView.Resources> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:ContinentViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding ContinentName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CountryViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Binding Children}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding CountryName}"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type ViewModels:CityViewModel}" > <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
<TextBlock Text="{Binding CityName}"/> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </TreeView.Resources> </TreeView> <GridSplitter Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Background="LightGray" Width="5" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"/> <Grid Grid.Column="2" Margin="5" > <TabControl> <TabItem Header="Details" DataContext="{Binding Path=SelectedItem.City, ElementName=tree, Mode=OneWay}"> <StackPanel > <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding CityName}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Area}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding Population}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding SelectedItem.CityDetailsInfo.ClubsCount}"/> <TextBlock VerticalAlignment="Center" FontSize="12" Text="{Binding SelectedItem.CityDetailsInfo.PubsCount}"/> </StackPanel> </TabItem> </TabControl> </Grid> </Grid> </DockPanel> </DockPanel>

• problem on static link to libsmbclient.a

- by Rex
I've tried to develop a library using libsmbclient-dev to access net share folders. I wish to static link libsmbclient.a in my project , but a lot of error happens when I tried to static link it, it seems that the libsmbclient.a doesn't include some objects it needed , while everything goes well with libsmbclient.so. Because my project need to support various linux versions like centOS , Ubuntu ..., we wish not to install libsmbclient-dev everywhere. Can anybody tell me that if I can static link this libsmbclient.a in an easy way ? Or what kind of installation strategy should I take to cause less trouble to users? If anyone have use this library to develop projects before , can you tell me how you deal with this case? Thank you very much!!!

• Naming convention: Final fields (not static)

- by Zeeker
Today I had a discussion with a co-worker about the naming of final fields in Java classes. In his opionion final fields should also be considered constants since their values won't change after the creation of the instance. This would lead to the following naming convention for final fields: public class Foo { private static final String BLA_BLA = "bla"; private final String BAR_BATZ; ... } In my opinion only static final fields should be considered constants while fields which are only final should follow the usual camelCase naming convention. public class Foo { private static final String BLA = "bla"; private final String barBatz; ... } Now I'm a bit uncertain since he is a far more experienced programmer than I am and I usually agree with his opinions and consider him a very good developer. Any input on this?

• Resuming from hibernation shows a fuzzy "static" screen

- by Ross
When I resume from hibernation in Ubuntu 10.10 the screen shows static, very similar to what you see on an analogue TV that hasn't been tuned properly. This also occurs on boot from shut down, but only for a moment after the Plymouth boot screen. The static lasts for at least 5 minutes. An odd thing that happens is that the mouse pointer, as a lighter square of static, becomes visible and you can move it around. Attempting to change into a terminal (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F1) doesn't seem to work (and I'm not sure if that can be done from the login screen). Resuming from suspend has different issues - vertical lines appearing for a second before appearing to be in terminal mode (blinking cursor) and then going to the lock screen. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Studio 15 with ATI graphics, however I'm not using the proprietary drivers as I had issues with dual-screen support, so it's the generic X.org drivers being used.

• does class reference itself static anti pattern in prism

- by Michael Riva
I have an application and my desing approach look like this: class Manager { public int State; static Manager _instance = null; public static Manager Instance { get { return _instance; } set { if (_instance == value) return; _instance = value; } } public Manager() { State = 0; Instance=this; } } class Module1 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } class Module2 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } class Module3 { public void GetState() { Console.WriteLine(Manager.Instance.State); } } Manager class already registered in Bootstrapper like : protected override void ConfigureContainer() { base.ConfigureContainer(); Container.RegisterType<Manager>(new ContainerControlledLifetimeManager()); } protected override void InitializeModules() { Manager man= Container.Resolve<Manager>(); } Question is do I need to define my manager object as static in its field to be able to reach its state? Or this is anti pattern or bad for performance?

• using static methods and classes

- by vedant1811
I know that static methods/variables are associated with the class and not the objects of the class and are useful in situations when we need to keep count of, say the number of objects of the class that were created. Non-static members on the other hand may need to work on the specific object (i.e. to use the variables initialized by the constructor) My question what should we do when we need neither of the functionalities? Say I just need a utility function that accepts value(s) and returns a value besed solely on the values passed. I want to know whether such methods should be static or not. How is programming efficiency affected and which is a better coding practice/convention and why. PS: I don't want to spark off a debate, I just want a subjective answer and/or references.

• WPF binding to ComboBox SelectedItem when reference not in ItemsSource.

- by juharr
I'm binding the PageMediaSize collection of a PrintQueue to the ItemSource of a ComboBox (This works fine). Then I'm binding the SelectedItem of the ComboBox to the DefaultPrintTicket.PageMediaSize of the PrintQueue. While this will set the selected value to the DefaultPrintTicket.PageMediaSize just fine it does not set the initially selected value of the ComboBox to the initial value of DefaultPrintTicket.PageMediaSize This is because the DefaultPrintTicket.PageMediaSize reference does not match any of the references in the collection. However I don't want it to compare the objects by reference, but instead by value, but PageMediaSize does not override Equals (and I have no control over it). What I'd really like to do is setup a IComparable for the ComboBox to use, but I don't see any way to do that. I've tried to use a Converter, but I would need more than the value and I couldn't figured out how to pass the collection to the ConverterProperty. Any ideas on how to handle this problem. Here's my xaml <ComboBox x:Name="PaperSizeComboBox" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=PrintersComboBox, Path=SelectedItem, Converter={StaticResource printQueueToPageSizesConverter}}" SelectedItem="{Binding ElementName=PrintersComboBox, Path=SelectedItem.DefaultPrintTicket.PageMediaSize}" DisplayMemberPath="PageMediaSizeName" Height="22" Margin="120,76,15,0" VerticalAlignment="Top"/> And the code for the converter that gets the PageMediaSize collection public class PrintQueueToPageSizesConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { return value == null ? null : ((PrintQueue)value).GetPrintCapabilities().PageMediaSizeCapability; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } }

• How to route outbound traffic to specific domain "XYZ.org" via a specific NIC or public/static IP?

- by user139943
Within the next week or so, I'll be setting up an AT&T U-verse modem with 5 usable static public IP addresses. I plan to register a domain name to 1 of the 5 static IPs (remaining 4 unregistered), and run a website from a single server setup in my home LAN. I'll skip the long winded reason why, but I need to somehow route outbound traffic (originating from my server) destined for one public domain (i.e. http://www.sample.org) through one of the UNREGISTERED static IP addresses ONLY. Basically, I want this public domain to see connections coming from an IP address and not my domain name. If it makes it easier, this can apply to all outbound traffic from my server as long as it doesn't impact users browsing my website! Inbound connections should go through the domain name / registered public IP. Can I accomplish this with my single server with one or multiple NICs? Do I need multiple servers and set one up as a proxy? Please help as my background is in software and not networking, and I don't think I can accomplish this at a software level (e.g. Java). Thanks.
