I want to make it so that if you do trap a bird within your shape, you will lose a life.   • Formatting an external HDD stuck at 70%

    My external HDD which is a 250GB WD (powered by USB) seems to have problem! Whenever i try to copy some files, it stuck while copying. I decided to format it. So I used windows tool and performed the format (not quickly) however at nearly 70% it stuck. Then I decided to perform a low level format with lowlevel. Again it stuck at 70%. I endup that the HDD has bad sector. So is there any tool that mark the bad sectors and bypass them? It is not very reasonable to through 250GB because of some bad sectors! P.S: I saw a similar topic but there were no conclusion there either.     I'm trying to create a VM, using VMWare Player, with an ISO image of Ubuntu Server 12.04 (LTS). The machine I'm doing the installation on has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU, and runs 64-bit Windows 7 I managed to create the VM (gave username, password, configured network etc), but I can't install Ubuntu Server. First I get this alert : Binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. Disabling long mode. Without long mode support, the virtual machine will not be able to run 64-bit code. For more details see http://vmware.com/info?id=152. When I click OK, I get another alert : This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host supports Intel VT-x, but Intel VT-x is disabled. Intel VT-x might be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or the host has not been power-cycled since changing this setting. (1) Verify that the BIOS/firmware settings enable Intel VT-x and disable 'trusted execution.' (2) Power-cycle the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed. (3) Power-cycle the host if you have not done so since installing VMware Player. (4) Update the host's BIOS/firmware to the latest version. For more detailed information, see http://vmware.com/info?id=152. Then, when I click OK, my VM exists, and I get back to the VMWare Player home screen.   • Dual boot OSX and Windows 7 natively

    I'm considering getting one of those new fancy Mac Book Pro's with the fancy screens, but after reading some stuff on the internets about running Windows 7 with bootcamp: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2770866?start=0&tstart=0 It seems you can't use the integrated graphics with windows, this causes windows to chew the battery life: I am afraid it is not possible. Since Apple introduced dual graphics chip laptops, they kept the low power/embedded GPU hidden under Window and they expose only the power hungry discrete GPU. It feels that this is being done on purpose so that it appears to users that OS X offers a better experience and battery life over Windows. So running bootcamp and windows kills the battery, running in parallels means you don't get accelerated 3d support (or something along those lines), so you don't get the performance out of it. I'm wondering: Is it possible to natively dual boot Windows 7 on a MBP, and if so would/does that give windows access to the integrated graphics to be able to not rape the battery?

  • Drawbacks of installing linux on usb stick?

    I am setting up a router/nas/http/whatever server based on an ION mini-ITX board. I've installed Ubuntu Server on an old 160 GB drive, but it generates a lot more heat and vibrates more than my other new drive (storage). It just doesn't fit the concept, and worse: it takes up a SATA port. As SSD's are crazy expensive I'm thinking of buying an extra 4 GB USB stick, and raid0 it. From my point of view, these are the pros/cons: Pros Low power consumption No vibrations No heat Smaller Get to buy new, larger USB stick (:D) Cons Shorter life time Slower Raid 0 More work maintaing/installing? I think the pros overweighs the cons. Shorter life time and raid 0 is countered by regular backups of the configs/settings. Slower is partially countered by raid 0, and I don't know about the last one. What do You think? Experience? Another solution?

    I'm a big fan of FolderSize, but unfortunately it works only on Windows XP. Even reading this and this, I'm not convinced that I cannot to have a column showing the folder size on Windows Explorer. Even with all "problems" FolderSize worked like a charm in WindowsXP. In a sysadmin life, FolderSize is explendid. Before select a lot of folders to send to backup in DVDs, I can check directly in Windows Explorer the size of the folders and get a set of folders with 4.3Gb to burn in a DVD. In another situation, I can view in the root folder the size of the bigger folders in the hard drive and start a good strategy of backup/partitioning/transfer to another drive/etc. If desired, I can tell a lot of another needs that in my sysadmin life I need a tool like FolderSize... There is someone that is actively developing a solution to show folder size on Windows Explorer in Vista/Seven Windows? What the problems that I can face if I develop myself that "add-in" for Windows Explorer?

    I have an office with a router and a remote server (Linux - Ubuntu 10.10). Both locations need to connect to a data supplier through a VPN. The VPN is an IPSEC gateway. I was able to configure my Linksys rv42 router to create a VPN connection successfully and now I need to do the same for Linux server. I have been messing around with this for too long. First I tried OpenVPN, but that is SSL and not IPSEC. Then I tried Shrew. I think I have the settings correct but I haven't been able to create the connection. It maybe that I have to use something else like a direct IPSEC config or something like that. If someone knows of a way to turn the following settings that I have been given below into a working IPSEC VPN connection I would be very grateful.
