  • Right way to access the Google Cloud Storage bucket via Public API

    I'm trying the following request to access the bucket by using curl, via the public API: curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: image/jpeg' -d @xxx.jpeg 'https://www.googleapis.com/upload/storage/v1/b/clips.eyecam.com/o?uploadType=media&name=x.jpeg&key=XXX' With XXX being the generated key in the Public API. However I'm getting an authorization failure: { "error": { "errors": [ { "domain": "global", "reason": "required", "message": "Login Required", "locationType": "header", "location": "Authorization" } ], "code": 401, "message": "Login Required" } } Seems the request is incorrect and does not pass the authorization key, any idea what would be the right form of the request?

    Hello, I'm using "Jquery UI 1./Dan Wellman/Packt Publishing" to learn JQuery UI. I'm working on the 'Dialog widget' chapiter. After I've completed a series of exercises in order to build a Dialog widget (using Google Chrome), I then tried my work with Internet Explorer and Firefox. The result has been disappointing. Chrome was perfet With Internet Explorer, (1) the title of the Dialog widget did not appear, (2) The location of the dialog widget was not correct (given the position: ["center", "center"]). It was rather offset toward left. With Firefox, the location was respected. However, only the outer container was visible. the content was missing, just a blank container. Also using Option Show:true and Hide:true did only work with Chrome. I wonder now if JQuery UI was meant to be used only with Google Chrome. I just think that I might be missing some directives to make it work with major browsers (as the author claimed in his book). Here's the code.   • I Know What I Did This Summer: Put Down Trex Decking

    If you’re wondering why I would bore everyone with my pictures and frequent status updates/tweets from the past week – it’s so I could document the process of refurbishing my deck, or what some would call a porch. When we go to take a vacation, buy a car, do anything – we also read personal blogs to get the real story. So, if you’re curious about what it takes to tackle this sort of project, read on. Skills/Equipment/Manpower We Possessed I took the old decking out by myself. I’m about 230 lbs, more than 6′ tall, and I’m pretty healthy. This took about 8 hours over two afternoons. Three of us put the deck back together. My wife has two engineering degrees. Her father also has two engineering degrees. Lots of brainpower available here. Also, her dad ran the public works department for a country for more than 20 years – so lots and lots of practical experience on hand. We had a compound mitre saw, a skilsaw, 2-3 crowbars, a framing hammer, 3 cordless drills, a corded drill, lots of sawhorses, a power sander, an angle grinder, a 10×10 Coleman canopy tent, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, outdoor speakers and lots of iTunes playlists, plenty of water and cold beer. Why We Did This Our deck was relatively young – it was built in 2005. However, the pressure treated boards must not have been adequately maintained before we bought the house. I had powerwashed the deck every other year and had it stained a few times. The boards just rotted. We’re going to be in the house for a long time, and we wanted something that would look nice and require little maintenance. More bad deck boards The deck boards were in bad shape Things We Learned The two most important things: The hidden fasteners have to be put in JUST right. Wedge them into the grooved board, then bend down the bit that is screwed down. We didn’t do this on the first board and couldn’t get the second board to fit nearly close enough. Watching the official TREX YouTube video helped immensely, and we should have watched that first. When pre-drilling holes for the boards that need screwed down – DO NOT pre-drill through the underlying framing wood. ONLY pre-drill through the TREX itself. The screw won’t seat in the board properly. Instead of sitting down flush with the board, it will stop at the top of the board and just spin. I had to call the the place that sold me the screws to find this out. So about a third of our screws look like crap. If it doesn’t look or feel right – stop everything and pick up your computer or your phone. It’s not right, and it will be much easier to stop and find out why. We didn’t do this, and now I’m going to see every screw that’s not flush with the boards and get upset. Oh well. The Process How much time did it take? Well I spent about 8 hours taking the deck apart. And then the 3 of use spent 8 hours the first day, 10 hours the second day, 8 hours the third, and another 6 hours on the fourth day. That’s like 104 man-hours. We supposedly saved four or five thousand dollars in labor, but don’t do the math here or you might get a bit upset. The main thing is that we got what we wanted, and there won’t be any surprises later. Now for some pictures… This 6”+ pry bar made the destruction of the old deck much easier Most of the joists, once exposed, were OK. This joist wasn’t sitting on ANYTHING before. We think a lazy gas person cut the board to sneak a gas line in. Awesome… These monster lag bolts had to be accounted for when putting in the additional framing The border pattern Sheri wanted to put in required a lot more framing. These were the first boards to go down – we screwed them in as there was no way to attach clips I sat, kicked in the boards, and then drilled these clips in – but my wife was able to go MUCH faster by using her hands to lock the boards in and drill on her knees. I liked locking the board in with my feet when they needed to be ‘encouraged’ to go straight. The first board took FOREVER to go in, but then when we got rolling, we were able to put in a 20′ board in less than 10 minutes. This was end of construction day #2 – we got much further than we thought we would. Ah, the dreaded last 10% – what to do here? Remember those ‘floating’ stringers? Yeah, we fixed that up a bit, too. My wife used a website (and her brain) to calculate exactly how to cut the stringers to give us the rise/run we needed with the proper clearance and all that jazz. The stairs with stringers and toe kicks – this was worth the effort It started raining on us as I screwed down the steps – this we managed to get our shade tent up on the deck to protect us from the rain too The stairs, finished Finished, mostly Good corner shot The top of the stairs Stairs, looking down Celebratory beer In Summary There are a few things we’re not happy with. I think we can fix them up – but later. I have a few things left to finish, rewire the lighting, get the gas grille put back in, and rehang some screen doors. I was expecting this to be a lot worse than it was. If I didn’t have the help, I would have never done it myself. But I’m glad that I did have that help and did do that project. It’s not often you get to spend that kind of qualify time with family and building cool stuff.

    Hi, I am writing a simple motion detection program but i want it to be cross platform so im using python and the pyglet library since it provides a simple way to load videos in different formats (specially wmv and mpeg). So far i have the code given below which loads the movie and plays it in a window.     I've managed to load a video-track of a movie frame by frame into a OpenGL texture with AVFoundation. I followed the steps described in the answer here: iOS4: how do I use video file as an OpenGL texture? and took some code from the GLVideoFrame sample from WWDC2010 which can be downloaded here: http://bit.ly/cEf0rM How do I play the audio-track of the movie synchronously to the video. I think it would not be a good idea to play it in a separate player, but to use the audio-track of the same AVAsset. AVAssetTrack* audioTrack = [[asset tracksWithMediaType:AVMediaTypeAudio] objectAtIndex:0]; I retrieve a videoframe and it's timestamp in the CADisplayLink-callback via CMSampleBufferRef sampleBuffer = [self.readerOutput copyNextSampleBuffer]; CMTime timestamp = CMSampleBufferGetPresentationTimeStamp( sampleBuffer ); where readerOutput is of type AVAssetReaderTrackOutput* How to get the corresponding audio-samples? And how to play them? Edit: I've looked around a bit and I think, best would be to use AudioQueue from the AudioToolbox.framework using the approach described here: AVAssetReader and Audio Queue streaming problem There is also an audio-player in the AVFoundation: AVAudioPlayer. But I don't know exactly how I should pass data to it's initWithData-initializer which expects NSData. Furthermore I don't think it's the best choice for my case because a new AVAudioPlayer-instance would have to be created for every new chunk of audio samples, as I understand it. Any other suggestions? What's the best way to play the raw audio samples which i get from the AVAssetReaderTrackOutput?

    Hi, I was browsing the web looking for a indexing and search framework and stumbled upon Solr. A functionality that we abolutely need is to boost results based on what field contained the hit. A small example: Consider a record like this: <movie> <title>The Dark Knight</title> <alternative_title>Batman Begins 2</alternative_title> <year>2008</year> <director>Christopher Nolan</director> <plot>Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent are forced to deal with the chaos unleashed by an anarchist mastermind known only as the Joker, as it drives each of them to their limits.</plot> </movie> I want to combine for example the title, alternative_title and plot fields into one search field, which isn't too difficult after looking at the Solr/Lucene documentation and tutorials. However I also want that movies that have a hit in title have a higher score than hits on alternative_title and those in their turn should score higher than hits in the plot field. Is there any way to indicate this kond of scoring in the xml or do we need to develop some custom scoring algorythm?   • Use Java exceptions internally for REST API user errors?

    We have a REST API that works great. We're refactoring and deciding how to internally handle errors by the users of our API. For example the user needs to specify the "movie" url parameter which should take the value of "1984", "Crash", or "Avatar". First we check to see if it has a valid value. What would be the best approach if the movie parameter is invalid? return null from one of the internal methods and check for the null in the main API call method throw an exception from the internal method and catch exceptions in the main API method I think it would make our code more readable and elegant to use exceptions. However, we're reluctant because we'd be potentially throwing many exceptions because of user API input errors, our code could be perfect. This doesn't seem to be the proper use of exceptions. If there are heavy performance penalties with exceptions, which would make sense with stack traces needing to be collected, etc., then we're unnecessarily spending resources when all we need to do is tell the user the parameter is wrong. These are REST API methods, so we're not propogating the exceptions to the users of the API, nor would we want to even if possible. So what's the best practice here? Use ugly nulls or use java's exception mechanism?

    If you read this article on Validation with the Data Annotation Validators, it shows that you can use the MetadataType attribute to add validation attributes to properties on partial classes. You use this when working with ORMs like LINQ to SQL, Entity Framework, or Subsonic. Then you can use the "automagic" client and server side validation. It plays very nicely with MVC. However, a colleague of mine used an interface to accomplish exactly the same result. it looks almost exactly the same, and functionally accomplishes the same thing. So instead of doing this: [MetadataType(typeof(MovieMetaData))] public partial class Movie { } public class MovieMetaData { [Required] public object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] public object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] public object DateReleased { get; set; } } He did this: public partial class Movie :IMovie { } public interface IMovie { [Required] object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] object DateReleased { get; set; } } So my question is, when does this difference actually matter? My thoughts are that interfaces tend to be more "reusable", and that making one for just a single class doesn't make that much sense. You could also argue that you could design your classes and interfaces in a way that allows you to use interfaces on multiple objects, but I feel like that is trying to fit your models into something else, when they should really stand on their own. What do you think?

  • flash as3 document class and event listeners

    I think i have this document class concept entirly wrong now, i was wondering if someone mind explaining it.. I assumed that the above class would be instantiated within the first frame on scene one of a movie. I also assumed that when changing scenes the state of the class would remain constant so any event listeners would still be running.. Scene 1: I have a movieclip named ui_mc, that has a button in for muting sound. Scene 2: I have the same movie clip with the same button. Now the eventListener picks it up in the first scene, however it does not in the second. I am wondering for every scene do the event listeners need to be resetup? If that is the case if their an event listener to listen for the change in scene, so i can set them back up again lol..     I have this method that receives an ID number and downloads an HTML website according to that ID. Typically, an IMDB link is like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0892791/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226229/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0000429/ They all follow the 'tt' then 7 digits, with lack of digits turning into zeroes to fill out the left spaces. How can I accomplish this using C#? I'm kind of stumped.     Does anyone know of any tweaked version of POCO T4 template that generates interfaces along with classes? i.e. if I have Movie and Actor entities in .edmx file, I need to get the following classes and interfaces. interface IMovie { string MovieName { get; set; } ICollection<IActor> Actors { get; set; } //instead of ICollection<Actor> } class Movie : IMovie { string MovieName { get; set; } ICollection<IActor> Actors { get; set; } //instead of ICollection<Actor> } interface IActor { string ActorName { get; set; } } class Actor { string ActorName { get; set; } } Also, just in case I write my own entities, does POCO proxies(I need them for lazy loading) work with the interface declarations as shown above?
