    - by maniat1k
    I'm using openSUSE 13.1. I created a new directory on a zpool zfs create zpgd0/iSCSI -o compression=lz4 -o atime=off but I'm not looking on that... So I do it again but I'm getting... zfs create zpgd0/iSCSI -o compression=lz4 -o atime=off cannot create 'zpgd0/iSCSI': dataset already exists adding some data zpool history History for 'zpgd0': 2014-08-11.13:38:21 zpool create -f zpgd0 raidz2 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0490461 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0603473 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0606817 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0670246 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0673599 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0715212 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0722699 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0731193 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0732862 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0806663 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0807385 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0816943 2014-08-11.14:13:09 zpool set autoexpand=on zpgd0 2014-08-11.14:14:32 zfs create zpgd0/espacio 2014-08-19.11:47:47 zfs create zpgd0/iSCSI -o compression=lz4 -o atime=off zpool status -v pool: zpgd0 state: ONLINE scan: none requested config: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM zpgd0 ONLINE 0 0 0 raidz2-0 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0490461 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0603473 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0606817 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0670246 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0673599 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0715212 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0722699 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0731193 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0732862 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0806663 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0807385 ONLINE 0 0 0 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD4001FAEX-0_WD-WMC1F0816943 ONLINE 0 0 0 errors: No known data errors I have no errors but the folder does not appear, so what Can I do? sorry add it zfs list NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT zpgd0 933K 35,5T 54,7K /zpgd0 zpgd0/iSCSI 54,7K 35,5T 54,7K /zpgd0/iSCSI

  • Online Source for Rackmount Server Shipping Box

    - by prs563
Hi guys, I have three Dell rackmount servers (2 2U, 1 4U) that I need to ship from Las Vegas to New York. Old shipping boxes that came with the servers were discarded sometime ago. Where can I buy some that fit nicely and can be shipped by UPS or Fedex? I've tried UPS, Fedex, and Uhaul already. Thanks in advance.

  • Online resizing of kvm guest root filesystem?

    - by Bittrance
I have a Linux guest that uses an LVM volume directly as root file system (that is, there is no partition table). libvirt config looks thus: <os> <type arch='x86_64' machine='rhel6.4.0'>hvm</type> <kernel>/boot/vmlinuz-X.Y.Z.el6.x86_64</kernel> <initrd>/boot/initramfs-X.Y.Z.el6.x86_64.img</initrd> <cmdline>console=ttyS0 root=/dev/vda</cmdline> <boot dev='hd'/> </os> <disk type='block' device='disk'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' cache='none' io='native'/> <source dev='/dev/vg/guest'/> <target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/> <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x00' slot='0x04' function='0x0'/> </disk> From inside the guest: $ mount /dev/vda on / type ext4 (rw) proc on /proc type proc (rw) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620) tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw) none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw) Is it possible to resize the guest's root partition without rebooting the guest? Just doing lvextend on the host and resize2fs from the guest does not seem to be enough.

  • Will adding a SSD cache device to my ZFS storage improve performance?

    - by Sysadminicus
The server has 4GB of RAM and my zpool is made up of 15.5k SAS drives arranged like this: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM tank ONLINE 0 0 0 raidz1-0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t2d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t3d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t4d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t5d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t6d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t7d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t8d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 raidz1-1 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t10d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t11d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t12d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t13d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 c0t14d0 ONLINE 0 0 0 spares c0t9d0 AVAIL c0t1d0 AVAIL The primary use is as an NFS store for a couple VMWare ESXi servers. I can't do any "true" benchmarks because this is a production system (no budget for test systems), but using dd and bonnie++ I can't get more than ~40-50MB/s writes and ~70-90MB/s reads. It seems I should be able to do much better, but I'm not sure where to optimize. Based on what I've read, I think dropping in a OCZ Vertex 2 Pro SSD as my L2ARC is going to be the best bang-for-the-buck to improve througput. Is there something else I should be looking into to help performance? If not... How do I know how big a cache device I need? Am I safe with only a single SSD as my cache device?

  • Online Backup strategy for family individuals

    - by marlon brando
The majority of my family, including myself, uses Dropbox and Syncplicity free accounts for our syncing needs. However our backup strategy is pretty non-existent, we all have access (via webDav) to our qnap nas located at home, however we copy files accross when we can remember to do so, terrible I know. Is there tools like CrashPlan or Spideroak that allows each the accomodation of each family members syncing and back-up needs under one main account? I'm not sure how this would work, as each family member would need a seperate sub-account or would I manage each computer's syncing and backup lists from a single account? Any thoughts?

  • Solution for secure online remote presentation?

    - by Greg Joshner
Hello, what is your (subscription free) solution to share a presentation with a number of users (below 50) that works without plug-ins in a browser and allows the presentation to be centrally controlled (and thus prevents participating users from "flipping forward")? I won't need print, save as or offline features, just showing and controlling a presentation centrally. Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Hosting online with xampp?

    - by Andrew
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong, because from what I've read, this should all be working. What I've done: Forwarded ports 80, 8080, and 443. Changed the ServerName localhost:80 line in \apache\conf\httpd.conf to ServerName myip:80. Registered at dyndns.com, and have been using their update client to link my IP to the DNS thingy. Made sure xampp was using port 80, and started apache and MySql. And...nothing. What did I miss? =/.

  • How ZFS handles online replacement in a RAID-Z (theoretical)

    - by Kevin
This is a somewhat theoretical question about ZFS and RAID-Z. I'll use a three disk single-parity array as an example for clarity, but the problem can be extended to any number of disks and any parity. Suppose we have disks A, B, and C in the pool, and that it is clean. Suppose now that we physically add disk D with the intention of replacing disk C, and that disk C is still functioning correctly and is only being replaced out of preventive maintenance. Some admins might just yank C and install D, which is a little more organized as devices need not change IDs - however this does leave the array degraded temporarily and so for this example suppose we install D without offlining or removing C. Solaris docs indicate that we can replace a disk without first offlining it, using a command such as: zpool replace pool C D This should cause a resilvering onto D. Let us say that resilvering proceeds "downwards" along a "cursor." (I don't know the actual terminology used in the internal implementation.) Suppose now that midways through the resilvering, disk A fails. In theory, this should be recoverable, as above the cursor B and D contain sufficient parity and below the cursor B and C contain sufficient parity. However, whether or not this is actually recoverable depnds upon internal design decisions in ZFS which I am not aware of (and which the manual doesn't say in certain terms). If ZFS continues to send writes to C below the cursor, then we are fine. If, however, ZFS internally treats C as though it were gone, resilvering D only from parity between A and B and only writing A and B below the cursor, then we're toast. Some experimenting could answer this question but I was hoping maybe someone on here already knows which way ZFS handles this situation. Thank you in advance for any insight!

  • Client-based program to track response time for online webservice

    - by Søren Haagerup
I am helping a customer with general IT support, and they have a problem with a hosted web-based system being slow. The provider of the system blames the client's computer, and the client calls me for help. I blame the provider, but it is hard to get them to do something about it without rock-solid evidence. And every time the provider comes around for a TeamViewer session, everything of course runs smoothly. Does there exist a client program or browser plugin that tracks statistics about response time for specific web services?

  • File storage service that allows clients to upload large files to my account?

    - by deceze
Can anyone recommend an online file storage service which fulfills these requirements? I can create an account I can invite clients to upload files into my account clients do not need to register to be able to upload clients must not be able to see anything but their own files or they must not see any files at all, they get only a dropbox only I can access the uploaded files, everything is non-public service is multi-lingual I just need clients to be able to send me potentially large files in a dead simple manner online, that's all. No registration step to go through, no software to download, no synching or sharing. No setting up of individual folders and permissions for each individual client. No copying and pasting of links (a la Mediafire, Rapidshare etc).

  • "must issue a starttls command first" when MSSQL emails via Microsoft Online

    - by David
I have written a stored procedure in MSSQL Server 2008 R2 which sends emails when my Application logs errors. It works fine on servers at our office but when I ran it on our remote servers I got must issue a starttls command first So maybe there is a setting somewhere which is different between the two servers, and that's why it's working on one and not the other. How do I set the server so that it issues a "starttls commaned first"?

  • Online Windows Server Virtual Hard Drive Images for Use with VMWare Server 1.0

    - by charfeddine.ahmed
Hello there, I have a remote Server running the VMWare hypervisor. I want to create a virtual machine running Windows Server. However I can't upload mine since my internet connection is slow (would take me days to do the upload). Microsoft has public hard drive images with Windows Server Trial on them, but they work for Virtual PC. I am looking for such files that can be used with VMWare Server. That case I can download these files directly to the server which enjoys a fast connection. Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 hangs with 100% disk activity but only when online

    - by jeremy
I have the same problem as seemingly many other people here, and I think we might all be experiencing the same issue: a compatibility issue in Windows 7 between hard drive and network controller or drivers. I've tried firmware updates of my entire board, wiping my drive and reinstalling from scratch. And yet the problem persists, which suggests it is an operating system error, as the hard drive checks out 100% physically. Additionally, the only time it does not occur is when in safe mode WITHOUT networking. With networking, there are spikes in disc access every so often and a huge flow of processes accessing the disc simultaneously that literally "stick" the disc, and physically jolting my computer unsticks it. Again, this has been tested for hours in a professional service environment, and without network access on, things are fine. As soon as there's network access available, the disc access occasionally cranks up to 100% and sticks everything. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, but this also happened under Norton, then McAfee. Again, this happened again after a complete wipe, so the likelihood of malware causing it seems low. I don't visit unsecure sites anyway, as far as I know. This, to me, narrows it down to a Windows 7 process that is somehow repeatedly corrupted, perhaps a corrupt .dll or driver, causing a conflict at the operating system level and temporary hard drive failure. I would encourage anyone who knows more about this stuff (which is probably most people!) to take a shot at this one, and I would encourage anyone else with a sticking hard drive in windows 7 64-bit to check on whether it occurs during safe mode without networking.

  • Podcast online sync service

    - by Hannes de Jager
I download and listen to podcasts on 2 different computers. I would like so somehow sync the metadata such that, when I subscribe to a feed it gets subscribed on my other computer also. When I've downloaded a podcast it gets marked as downloaded on the other machine also. Is there a software + webservice combination that will allow me to do this. That will save its doings to the cloud and update it also? My one machine is Windows and the other one Linux.
