  • Ruby: opening files relative to home directory

    - by Peter
In Ruby, the following fails with Errno::ENOENT: No such file or directory, even if the file exists: open('~/some_file') However, you can do this: open(File.expand_path('~/some_file')) Two questions: Why doesn't open process the tilde as pointing to the home directory? Is there a slicker way than using File.expand_path?

  • What happens when you click a button using WebRat under cucumber

    - by Peter Tillemans
I am trying to login to a Java web application. The login page has the following html : <html> <head><title>Login Page</title></head> <body onload='document.f.j_username.focus();'> <h3>Login with Username and Password</h3> <form name='f' action='/ui/j_spring_security_check' method='POST'> <table> <tr><td>User:</td><td><input type='text' name='j_username' value=''></td></tr> <tr><td>Password:</td><td><input type='password' name='j_password'/></td></tr> <tr> <td><input type='checkbox' name='_spring_security_remember_me'/> </td> <td>Remember me on this computer.</td> </tr> <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="submit" type="submit"/></td></tr> <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="reset" type="reset"/></td></tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> I use the following script: Given /^I am logged in as (.*) with password (.*)$/ do | user, password | visit "http://localhost:8080/ui" click_link "Projects" puts "Response Body:" puts response.body assert_contain "User:" fill_in "j_username", :with => user fill_in "j_password", :with => password puts "Response Body:" puts response.body click_button puts "Response Body:" puts response.body end This gives the following in the log file : [INFO] Response Body: [INFO] <html><head><title>Login Page</title></head><body onload='document.f.j_username.focus();'> [INFO] <h3>Login with Username and Password</h3><form name='f' action='/ui/j_spring_security_check' method='POST'> [INFO] <table> [INFO] <tr><td>User:</td><td><input type='text' name='j_username' value=''></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td>Password:</td><td><input type='password' name='j_password'/></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td><input type='checkbox' name='_spring_security_remember_me'/></td><td>Remember me on this computer.</td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="submit" type="submit"/></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="reset" type="reset"/></td></tr> [INFO] </table> [INFO] </form></body></html> [INFO] Response Body: [INFO] <html><head><title>Login Page</title></head><body onload='document.f.j_username.focus();'> [INFO] <h3>Login with Username and Password</h3><form name='f' action='/ui/j_spring_security_check' method='POST'> [INFO] <table> [INFO] <tr><td>User:</td><td><input type='text' name='j_username' value=''></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td>Password:</td><td><input type='password' name='j_password'/></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td><input type='checkbox' name='_spring_security_remember_me'/></td><td>Remember me on this computer.</td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="submit" type="submit"/></td></tr> [INFO] <tr><td colspan='2'><input name="reset" type="reset"/></td></tr> [INFO] </table> [INFO] </form></body></html> [INFO] Response Body: [INFO] [INFO] Given I am logged in as pti with password ptipti # features/step_definitions/authentication_tests.rb:2 So apparently the response.body disappeared after clicking the submit button. I can see from the server log files that the script does not arrive on the Project page. I am new to webrat and quite new to ruby and I am now thoroughly confused. I have no idea why the response.body is gone. I have no idea where I am. I speculated that I had to wait for the page request, but all documentation says that webrat nicely waits till all redirects, pageloads, etc are finished. (At least I think I read that). Besides I find no method to wait for the page in the webrat API. Can someone give some tips on how to proceed with debugging this?

  • How to fix this java.lang.LinkageError?

    - by Péter Török
I am trying to configure a custom layout class to Log4J as described in my previous post. The class uses java.util.regex.Matcher to identify potential credit card numbers in log messages. It works perfectly in unit tests (I can also programmatically configure a logger to use it and produce the expected output). However when I try to deploy it with our app in JBoss, I get the following error: --- MBEANS THAT ARE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM --- ObjectName: jboss.web.deployment:war=MyWebApp-2010_02-SNAPSHOT.war,id=476602902 State: FAILED Reason: java.lang.LinkageError: java/util/regex/Matcher I couldn't even find any info on this form of the error - typically LinkageError seems to show up with a "loader constrain violation" message, like in here. Technical details: we use JBoss 4.2, Java 5, Log4J 1.2.12. We deploy our app in an .ear, which contains (among others) the above mentioned .war file, and the custom layout class in a separate jar file. We override the default settings in jboss-log4J.xml with our own log4j.properties located in a different folder, which is added to the classpath at startup, and is provided via Carbon. I can only guess: are two different Matcher class versions loaded from somewhere, or is Matcher loaded by two different classloaders when it is used from the jar and the war? What does this error message mean, and how can I fix it?

  • Query to show images with recent posts in Wordpress sidebar/widget

    - by Peter
To show recent items from a Wordpress category in a widget I'm using this code... <ul> <?php $recent = new WP_Query("cat=1231&showposts=5"); while($recent->have_posts()) : $recent->the_post();?> <li><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"> <?php the_title(); ?> </a></li> <?php endwhile; ?> </ul> ...but how can I make this query also display the first image in each post, and is there any way to set a 'default' image in case there is no image? Is there also a way to use thumbnails here, rather than loading the full size image and using HTML to resize?

  • How do I get an overview and a methodology for programming in Python

    - by Peter Nielsen
I've started to learn Python and programming from scratch. I have not programmed before so it's a new experience. I do seem to grasp most of the concepts, from variables to definitions and modules. I still need to learn a lot more about what the different libraries and modules do and also I lack knowledge on OOP and classes in Python. I see people who just program in Python like that's all they have ever done and I am still just coming to grips with it. Is there a way, some tools, a logical methodology that would give me an overview or a good hold of how to handle programming problems ? For instance, I'm trying to create a parser which we need at the office . I also need to create a spider that would collect links from various websites. Is there a formidable way of studying the various modules to see what is needed ? Or is it just nose to the grind stone and understand what the documentation says ? Sorry for the lengthy question..

  • Changing a table-valued function that a stored procedure calls is not recognized?

    - by Peter
Hey all I have a stored procedure sp that calls a table-valued function tvf. Sometimes I modify the tvf but when subsequently executing sp, the output from sp is the same as before the modification. It seems like it is cached or compiled or something. If I make some dummy change to the sp, then I get the right output of the sp. Is there some way, I can overcome this problem? In Oracle it is possible to re-compile all stored procedures, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in SQL Server? Any help is highly appreciated.

  • How do I find out what process Id and thread id / name has a file open

    - by peter
Hi All, I am using C# in an application and am having some problems with a file becoming locked. The piece of code does this, while (true) { Read a packet from a socket (with data in it to add to the file) Open a file Writes data to it Close a file } But in the process the file becomes locked. I don't really understand how, we are are definately catching and reporting exceptions so I don't see how the file doesn't get closed every time. My best guess is that something else is opening the file, but I want to prove it. Can someone please provide a piece of code to check whether the file is open and if so report what processid and threadid has the file open. For example if I had this code, StreamWriter streamWriter1 = new StreamWriter(@"c:\logs\test.txt"); streamWriter1.WriteLine("Test"); // code to check for locks?? StreamWriter streamWriter2 = new StreamWriter(@"c:\logs\test.txt"); streamWriter1.Close(); streamWriter2.Close(); That will throw an exception because the file is locked when we try and open it the second time. So where the comment is what could I put in there to report that the current app (process Id) and the current thread (thread Id) have the file locked? Thanks.

  • JS Object this.method() breaks via jQuery

    - by Peter Boughton
I'm sure there's a simple answer to this, but it's Friday afternoon and I'm tired. :( Not sure how to explain it, so I'll just go ahead and post example code... Here is a simple object: var Bob = { Stuff : '' , init : function() { this.Stuff = arguments[0] } , doSomething : function() { console.log( this.Stuff ); } } And here it is being used: $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(document).ready( init ); function init() { Bob.init('hello'); Bob.doSomething(); $j('#MyButton').click( Bob.doSomething ); } Everything works, except for the last line. When jQuery calls the doSomething method it is overriding 'this' and stopping it from working. Trying to use just Stuff doesn't work either. So how do I refer to an object's own properties in a way that allows jQuery to call it, and also allows the object to work with the calling jQuery object? i.e. I would like to be able to do things like this: doSomething : function() { console.log( <CurrentObject>.Stuff + $j(<CallerElement>).attr('id') ); } (Where <CurrentObject> and <CallerElement> are replaced with appropriate names.)

  • Accessing Sabre Web Services using PHP

    - by Peter
I have been approached to create a website using Sabre Web Services to power the reservations system. All documentation I have seen refers to .NET or Java solutions, I was in doubt whether PHP can be used as access is performed using SOAP. I have found no further information about this, I assume the answer is yes, but wonder why there is not a single reference to this being possible - all solutions seem to be .NET Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Learning to write organized and modular programs

    - by Peter
I'm a computer science student, and I'm just starting to write relatively larger programs for my coursework (between 750 - 1500 lines). Up until now, it's been possible to get by with any reasonable level of modularization and object oriented design. However, now that I'm writing more complex code for my assignments I'd like to learn to write better code. Can anyone point me in the direction of some resources for learning about what sort of things to look for when designing your program's architecture so that you can make it as modularized as possible?

  • How to @synthesize a C-Style array of pointers?

    - by Peter Hajas
I have a property defined in a class like so: @interface myClass UIImageView *drawImage[4]; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView **drawImage; ... @synthesize drawImage; // This fails to compile I have found similar questions on StackOverflow and elsewhere, but none that really address this issue. What is the most Objective-C kosher way to do this?

  • Rsync: pure Ruby implementation?

    - by peter
I have a Rsync program Deltacopy with an executable as client and server but would like to replace this if possible with a pure Ruby implementation of Rsync. I found gems like six-rsync and rsync-update but they seem to be no general implementations. I'm looking for a pure Ruby solution, so no executables involved and preferably runnable on multiple OS. If possible a simple sample would be great. I only look for Rsync, no other transfer or backup solutions please.

  • How to configure Beyond Compare 3 for Eclipse conflict resolution?

    - by Peter Boughton
What is the correct parameters to get Beyond Compare 3 working with Eclipse/Subclipse conflict resolution? In Preferences > Team > SVN > Diff/Merge there's the option to specify an external program to resolve conflicts. The default parameters are: "${yours}" "${theirs}" "${base}" "${merged}" And it suggests TortoiseMerge settings of this: /theirs:"${theirs}" /base:"${base}" /mine:"${yours}" /merged:"${merged}" But what is the appropriate config for Beyond Compare?

  • Mod_rewrite shortening url .htaccess

    - by Peter
is there any way to hide redirected url, here is what I think: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://minteddomain.com/mint/pepper/tillkruess/downloads/tracker.php?url=http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}&force So the long redirected url http://minteddomain.com/mint/pepper/tillkruess/downloads/tracker.php?url=http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} to something shorter like /mintedomain.com/track/ It is possible? Adrian edit: Andrew: This is a stats software Mint (haveamint.com) with File Download tracker plugin. The File Download tracker works in this way: in .htaccess every file (zip, rar, txt,...) is redirected to the tracker.php file (because the stats): http://mydomain.com/mint/pepper/tillkruess/downloads/tracker.php?url=http://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} So the redirected url look like this for a zip file: http://minteddomain.com/mint/pepper/tillkruess/downloads/tracker.php?url=http://mydomain/downloads/apple.zip This redirected URL is very long and ugly. The best for me would be to redirect this redirected URL to something shorter URL: example: http://mydomain.com/track/downloads/apple.zip.. So the http://mydomain.com/track would be the http://minteddomain.com/mint/pepper/tillkruess/downloads/tracker.php

  • Preserving alpha issues with loaded UIImages - how to avoid discarding alpha values on import?

    - by Peter Hajas
My application lets the user save/load images with alpha values to the camera roll on the device. I can see in the Photos application that these images are appropriately alpha'd, as alpha'd areas just appear black. However, when I load these images back into the application using the valueForKey:UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage message to the info dictionary from (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info, the alpha values are turned to just white, making those sections opaque. Is there a way to preserve these alpha values?

  • Make iPad app a Universal app

    - by Peter Hajas
I have an iPad app that I would like to make Universal, however this seems alarmingly difficult. I've changed things around so that I support both builds, but when building, I get lots of errors about using UIPopOvers. Here're my questions: Why does UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() not compile or register on 3.1.3? Can I conditionally have variables in a class definition based on UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM()? If not, should I make two different view controllers? Thanks!

  • How to make CodeIgniter accept "query string" URLs?

    - by Peter
According to CI's docs, CodeIgniter uses a segment-based approach, for example: example.com/my/group If I want to find a specific group (id=5), I can visit example.com/my/group/5 And in the controller, define function group($id='') { ... } Now I want to use the traditional approach, which CI calls "query string" URL. Example: example.com/my/group?id=5 If I go to this URL directly, I get a 404 page not found. So how can I enable this?

  • Delphi Compiler Directive to Evaluate Arguments in Reverse

    - by Peter Turner
I was really impressed with this delphi two liner using the IFThen function from Math.pas. However, it evaluates the DB.ReturnFieldI first, which is unfortunate because I need to call DB.first to get the first record. DB.RunQuery('select awesomedata1 from awesometable where awesometableid = "great"'); result := IfThen(DB.First = 0, DB.ReturnFieldI('awesomedata1')); Obviously this isn't such a big deal, as I could make it work with five robust liners. But all I need for this to work is for Delphi to evaluate DB.first first and DB.ReturnFieldI second. I don't want to change math.pas and I don't think this warrants me making a overloaded ifthen because there's like 16 ifthen functions. Just let me know what the compiler directive is, if there is an even better way to do this, or if there is no way to do this and anyone whose procedure is to call db.first and blindly retrieve the first thing he finds is not a real programmer.
