    - by PhantomTypist
I am looking into using a lightweight serverless database engine like SQLite, Firebird, or VistaDB in an upcoming project. Someone asked about What are the advantages of VistaDB. I would like to know what are the disadvantages of using VistaDB versus other technology?

  • Step by step help and guidance

    - by ChrisC
Is there such a thing as a paid (or free would be GREAT, but unlikely I'm thinking) resource that could help a newbie with guidance and help as I create my first app (C# with SQLite db)? Stackoverflow is great, but a one-on-one person who was familiar with exactly what I'm doing would be even better.

  • Why doesn't SQL DISTINCT work with ORDER BY CAST?

    - by Tommy
Including DISTINCT to an SQL query that also uses ORDER BY CAST(thecolumn AS int) as shown here seems to remove that sorting functionality. Any reason these cant work together? (Using sqlite with the C api) Thanks. EDIT: Started with - sprintf(sql, "SELECT DISTINCT rowX FROM TableX Order By Cast(rowX As int) LIMIT 150 OFFSET %s;", Offset); rowX is Type CHAR(5)

  • Connecting CoreData to my App on an iPhone Device

    - by Lauren Quantrell
I apologize ahead of time for what I'm sure is a complete newbie lapse. Running my iPhone app on iPhone simulator - no problem. But I loaded the app on an iPhone device for the first time and it appears as if the SQLite database I'm using (NSManagedObjectContext) isn't connected or didn't upload. The app installs but with no data. How do I get it all to upload and work on the device? I appreciate any help. lq

  • Android: Text primary key with different name

    - by Echilon
I have an existing Windows app for which I'm writing an Android port. The app uses a unique string as the primary key, but the SQLite methods in Android all seem to work with integers and a column names _id, whereas my ID column isn't called this. Is there a way to let Android know I have a key with a different column name?

  • Rails: three most recent records by unique belongs_to associated record

    - by Dennis Collective
class User has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :user named_scope :recent, :order => 'comments.created_at DESC' named_scope :limit, lambda { |limit| {:limit => limit}} named_scope :by_unique_users end what would I put in the :by_unique_users so that I can do Comment.recent.by_unique_users.limit(3), and only get one comment per user on sqlite named_scope :by_unique_user, :group = "user_id" works, but makes it freak out on postgres, which is deployed on production PGError: ERROR: column "comments.id" must appear in the GROUP BY clause or be used in an aggregate function

  • Update a column based on a field from another table

    - by Sergio
Hi: I'd like to update values in one table based on corresponding values from other tables. Say you want to update prices of pieces provided by one specific manufacturer whose name is in the table Manufacturers with the Pieces table containing only the id of the manufacturer. I've seen several solutions for MySQL here and for MS SQL Server here but none of them seems to work in SQLite. Any suggestion?

  • HTML5 Webapp as regular icon or app on iPhone and Andorid.

    - by holografix
Hi all, Sorry if this is a noob question, I searched quite a bit and couldn't find an answer. I'm developing a html5 app that relies on sqlite for local storage. I'd like for it to appear as an app icon on the iPhone/Android screen, what's the best way to do this? Ie can I write some sort of "wrapper" app to achieve it? Thanks!

  • CursorLoader, get URI for local database

    - by user1681358
I'm a newbie android programmer and I recently followed a tutorial which shows how to create a local SQLite database by using SQLiteDatabase.rawQuery to return a Cursor. I would like to modify my app to use CursorLoader which is apparently a better way to access the database. My problem is the CursorLoader constructor expects a URI to be given. Do I just input "file:///[path to db]"? Seems a bit messy.

  • Best Embedded SQL DB for write performance?

    - by max.minimus
Has anybody done any benchmarking/evaluation of the popular open-source embedded SQL DBs for performance, particularly write performance? I've some 1:1 comparisons for sqlite, Firebird Embedded, Derby and HSQLDB (others I am missing?) but no across the board comparisons... Also, I'd be interested in the overall developer experience for any of these (for a Java app).

  • Help me choose between XML or SQL Lite on android

    - by Ngetha
I have an android app that periodically, say once a week downloads content from a server in XML. The content is used by the app, different Acitivities use different parts of the content. My question is a design one, should I save the data in SQlite or just keep it as an XML file, which one would be faster to read? The app can only use one content piece at a time, which means subsequent XML content downloads replace the old one.

  • Query interface for iPhone CoreData store

    - by JT
Hi, another iPhone newbie question... I have the following: NSPersistentStoreCoordinator NSManagedObjectContext NSManagedObjectModel Is it possible to run queries directly on the store (since its a sqlite DB)? I'm trying to delete all the records from a tableview, and figured a "DELETE FROM table" would be nice and quick as opposed to looping through the records and removing them manually (which i'm also struggling with). Thanks for your time, James

  • Is it normal to get SQLITE_BUSY on a read only database?

    - by dicroce
I have 2 processes: 1 is writing to a sqlite database, 1 is reading from the same database. Occasioally, I get SQLITE_BUSY on my selects. Is this normal? Is their some option or way I could open the database so that it blocks until it CAN complete the query? (I tried the FULLMUTEX option on the open call but it appeared to have no effect).

  • Out of browser silverlight 4 application with local database that will run and install on windows or

    - by user360894
I am researching using silverlight 4 to develop a desktop application that can be installed from a browser window, now the tricky part is that I want a lightweight database embedded into the application. The database should install with the rest of the application and it should ideally work on both windows and mac systems. Originally I was thinking sqlite would be suitable for this but I have learned that it is not compatible with silverlight. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

  • Restore sqlite3 on Mac OS X for Google Chrome

    - by gaearon
I was stupid enough to compile sqlite3 from source and install it to /usr, overriding default library. This being done, Google Chrome doesn't launch anymore, crashing with this output: Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libsqlite3.dylib Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/Versions/A/Security Reason: no suitable image found.
