  • How to fix an external HDD?

    Hi, I have a Verbatim 1080p external HDD (47535 model). When i plug it in, the power and the hdd leds are lighting, but it has an anoying sound every half second or so. Is there any posibility to fix it OR retrieve my data? Or is a mechanical problem? Thanks!

  • DSL Modem with Wireless Router

    I have a D-Link WBR-1310 wireless router and a TP-Link TD-8616 DSL modem. My old DSL modem died recently and I got the TP-Link as a replacement. With my old DSL modem, I plugged it into the WAN port on my D-Link and I could reach the internet through wireless and through the network. However, when I plugged the new TP-Link into the WAN port, I was not able to get any internet connectivity (either on the network ports or through wireless). So I plugged my labtop directly into the TP-Link DSL modem and I was able to get internet connectivity. I'm trying to figure out why my labtop can see the internet connection, but not the D-Link router. I think that the problem is due to the IP networking. My D-Link was originally set to have IP address 192.168.1.1. According to the documentation for the TP-Link DSL modem, it uses 192.168.1.1 as its IP address. I do not believe that my old DSL modem had an IP address. I logged into my D-Link router and changed its IP address to 192.168.1.2 and restarted it. Unfortunately, I still could not see the internet from my wireless devices. I've read a few forum postings which implied that I needed to setup a "bridge" between the two networks. Does that sound correct? Why didn't my old DSL modem require a bridge? I read pg. 12-13 of my D-Link's manual and they suggest that I need to disable UPnP, DHCP, and then plug the DSL modem into one of the LAN ports on my router. I'm concerned about doing this since I don't think that the firewall will work if I plug my DSL modem into one of the LAN ports. I also have a home NAS on my network and I wouldn't want that to be available over the internet. Does anyone have any advice about how I can get my TPLink DSL modem to work with my D-Link router?     Hi! I'm trying to compose two videos, and I'm using the alpha plug-in to make the white color transparent. To test the alpha plug-in I'm creating the pipeline with gst-launch. The first test I done was: gst-launch videotestsrc pattern=smpte75 \ ! alpha method=custom target-r=255 target-g=255 target-b=255 angle=10 \ ! videomixer name=mixer ! ffmpegcolorspace ! autovideosink \ videotestsrc pattern=snow ! mixer. and it works great! Then I created two videos with those lines: gst-launch videotestsrc pattern=snow ! ffmpegcolorspace ! theoraenc ! oggmux ! filesink location=snow.ogv gst-launch videotestsrc pattern=smpte75 ! ffmpegcolorspace ! theoraenc ! oggmux ! filesink location=bars75.ogv And changed the videotestsrc to a filesrc and it continues working gst-launch filesrc location=bars75.ogv ! decodebin2 \ ! alpha method=custom target-r=255 target-g=255 target-b=255 angle=10 \ ! videomixer name=mixer ! ffmpegcolorspace ! autovideosink \ filesrc location=snow.ogv ! decodebin2 ! alpha ! mixer.     The iPod shuffle (3G) seems to have a proprietary connector that is different than the previous one for iPod shuffle (2G). I have tried the cable that comes with the 2G, and even a 3rd party charger, and their connectors are physically keyed so you cannot plug them in. Is anyone using a 3rd-party cable (besides the one Apple provided)?

  • How to restore files from an external drive done with Norton Ghost

    Our office XP computer crashed this afternoon. I know that we had Norton Ghost doing regular backups on an external hard drive. My question is how do you restore from that backup? PS. When I plug in the external drive into my own Windows 7 machine it has two folders: - 9c590f17be2ef53d13bb00be2a - Norton Backups I can't open the first one (it says I don't have permissions) but the second one contains a bunch of files with the .v2i extension. Any help would be appreciated?

    I have win xp and asus p5ql-e motherboard. The problem is that when i plug in my headphones on the front audio jack, the computer doesn't recognizes it. They work on the back audio jack but not on the front - how can i be sure that it;s not a software problem (something miss configured or not configured at all), before i conclude that it's a hardware problem (broken front audio jack or miss connected to the motherboard)?

  • Pen Mouse compatibility with Office 2007 on Vista Dell Inspiron 1525

    Are there mouse pens that work with a Dell laptop running Vista and Word 2007 that allow direct input into Word using the Vista tablet functionality? Currently I can write with my mouse and the tablet OCR recognizes even that poor handwriting but if there is a pen-shaped mouse that I could just plug and play that would be great. Any brands/education etc would be greatly appreciated as I am woefully ignorant on this technology.

  • Issues getting a Cisco WLC 5508 to find AIR-LAP1142N

    hoping someone can help me with a problem here. I'm attempting to setup a test (loan from Cisco) wireless network. Here's what i've got/done: 5508 Controller - Service Port IP set to 10.74.5.2 /24. Management IP set to 10.74.6.2 /24 with a default gateway of 10.74.6.1. Virtual IP set to 1.1.1.1. Copper SFP in slot 7, CAT5 (known good) going from there to port 1/0/47 on the switch. Green lights on both ends. 2960-S Switch - Vlan1 - 10.74.6.1 /24. dhcp pool 10.74.6.0 /24, default router 10.74.6.1. excluded-address 10.74.6.1, 10.74.6.2. 1/0/4 on the switch is set to switchport mode access and no shut. 1/0/47 on the switch is setup to switchport mode trunk and no shut. 1/0/4 has a CAT5 (known good) cable going from there to the AP. When I do a sh cdp nei from the switch, i can see the AP and Controller listed. When i configure my PC's nic to 10.74.5.5, and plug a cable from my nic to the SP port on the controller i can get on the device via the gui. In there, the only errors/info that show up in the trap are: Link Up: Slot: 0 Port: 7 Controller time base status - Controller is out of sync with the central timebase. I've manually set the time but apparently that's not quite the problem (or at least not the entire problem). When i plug the AP in, i see on the switch console that it grants it power, it sees it connect...but the controller won't see it for some reason. From what i've read you shouldn't have to do anything to the AP as it's managed by the controller...but i'm not sure what setting I'm missing for it to work. The AP light on top is continually cycling green, red, yellow. When I first start it up, it blinks green for 20 or so seconds, then goes to solid green for another 20 seconds or so, then flashes blue, green, red for awhile...but always ends up goinn back to the standard, green, red, yellow. Does anyone see any obvious issues with my setup or have any suggestions as to why i might be having a problem? Thanks for your help!

  • Need to Connect 2 HDMI between Onboard and Add-In GPUs - What's the consequences?

    If i plug a second hdmi cable into my onboard video output (my dedicated add-in only has one hdmi port) will it use my video card or the onboard for that display? Also, what is the difference in quality between HDMI and DVI? I do have a DVI to HDMI adapter and cable that I could use alternatively if the above is not in my best interest. This is a gaming related question as I will be gaming off the two displays, hopefully in the highest of quality.

  • OCZ Vertex 2 not recognized by Ubuntu installer

    As I boot into the Ubuntu 10.10 (or 11.04, doesn't matter) live environment or installer, it just refuses to recognise my Vertex 2. It reports the disk as ATA and not supporting smart, shows no serial number, and doesn't list the size correctly. All fdisk tells me is Unable to read /dev/sda (it's the only storage in the PC). I'm now running a temporary install of Windows 7 off of it, which worked like a charm, so where am I going wrong with Ubuntu... Specs: Asus M4N68T-M LE V2 (BIOS 0702, most recent) OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 60 GB Amd Athlon II X4 640 Patriot PSD34G13332 4GB DDR3 ram (two banks) EDIT I installed a second drive, installed Ubuntu on that and booted, it recognised the SSD just fine. I'm now trying to apt-get upgrade the live-environment. I wonder if there is any way to sort of install Ubuntu from Ubuntu (I boot into the working install on the other drive, install it on the SSD and then boot from the SSD). EDIT2 Ok, so that doesn't work. The install detects the SSD, however, it cannot format it. EDIT3 After a fresh boot I can read out SMART-data and even perform a read-benchmark, but if I try to format it, or do a write-bench, it'll crap out and after that it says SMART is not supported. So basically it seems I can't write to the disk, as it will stop working when I do, I will try to run repeated read-benchmarks to see if that has any effect. EDIT4 I'm running several read benchmarks on the drive right now, they give results that are to be expected from an SSD. If the read-benches don't fail, I can use fdisk on the disk, but it is now stuck trying to re-read the partition table after issueing the 'w' command. EDIT5 Parted Magic did recognize the drive and with hdparm -I even could tell me the drive was in a frozen state. I powercycled it (just pull out the plug from the SSD and plug it back in) and it wasn't frozen anymore. After that I could upgrade the firmware on the drive (still using Parted Magic) and format it to Ext4. After I rebooted into the Ubuntu installer, it wouldn't get recognized and hdparm didn't want to talk to it saying HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Invalid exchange. EDIT6 For some reason if I enable one of the RAID controllers (the one the SSD is connected to, obviously) Ubuntu will let me format it, mount it and write to it. The installer also recognizes it. However if the raid controller is enabled but no array is defined the motherboard can't boot from it :(

In particular when I have earbuds in and a reasonable volume set, loud or sudden sounds (gun shot, dramatic sound effects, gun fire, etc) are loud enough to hurt. Lowering the volume makes speech and other sounds hard to hear. Is there a third party on-the-fly solution for this, or a plug-in for VLC that I can use?

    There are times after I eject a USB Flash drive, I want to copy some more files over to the USB Flash drive. In this case, do I always need to unplug the drive and plug it back in? Is there a way to "reconnect" or "un-eject" the drive? To eject, that are two ways: 1) Right Click the drive (say H:) and choose Eject 2) Click "Safely remove hardware" from the icon tool But there seems to be no way to un-eject or reconnect a drive.

Is it possible to create a shortcut or access a path on a mobile device directly? When I open the properties of the folder I want it says the location starts with "Computer\Name of Phone\Phone\".   • Why does winamp now play video very fast without sound in vidamp?

    Whenever I open a video in Winamp now, it loads in a new winamp-plugin-looking-window titled, "Vidamp", it plays very quickly (about 1 hour plays in 30 seconds) and without sound. I can't figure out how to disable this Vidamp plug-in if that's even what it is. Could this have anything to do with VLC Media Player? When I play a video in VLC, for some reason I can control the volume using Winamp in the background?!? Thanks in advance

    I have somehow managed to write an iso 9660 image onto my USB drive, which makes all my computer think that the device is actually a CD. I have tried various methods of removing this partition, but nothing seems to work. I have tried fdisk, which says $ fdisk -l /dev/sdb Cannot open /dev/sdb parted crashes when I try to use it on this device. I have even tried $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb but it just hangs with no output (either on screen or on disk). However, when I plug the USB in, it does mount, and I can view (but not edit) the files on it. edit: now the result is $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb dd: opening `/dev/sdb': Read-only file system I have also tried re-formatting it on Windows, but it gets to the end of the format process and then says "Couldn't format the drive". How can I remove this partition and get my whole USB drive back to normal again?
